March 2007: Babies no longer: the road to Toddlerdom

1000 replies

MrLSG · 01/05/2008 22:50

MrsLSG suggested it, so her it is...

I've observed that calling Toby a baby isn't really accurate anymore, he (as one of the younger March babies - actually being born in April) is now toddlering (or is that staggering?), hence the title of the thread.

Sorry if Dad's aren't allowed around here: But Toby just loved joining in garden football with his big brother and dad earlier tonight.

Hi all

Hasan has rarely let me spoon feed him so no change there. He also throws food, tries to use a spoon, eats alot of pasta (being brilliant to manage) and also he loves salmon. But he does love chocolate. And I don't know how I'll ever get him off the boob. (my milk probably tastes of chocolate)

He is a total plaster...do you say the over there? He whinges as soon as I try to leave the room. And is truly happy when on my hip.

Scotland was gorgeous. The boat was delayed by 2 hours though so I got home at 2am...the house was a kip! The dishes I left on friday were still there with a whole lot more added.
Dh took the kids away for most of the weekend and they seem to have lived in the swimming pool. He did okay it seems. I really missed the kids, was so pleased to see them.

I ate sooo much lovely food all weekend, was great!

evenhope · 19/05/2008 14:09

Oh Piff. My heart was in my mouth just reading that

Rosy glad you had a good time.

DD had a temperature last night and was like a radiator all night. She kept opening her eyes, flinging herself on top of me and going back to sleep. Temp down a fraction this morning. So far just ultra- clingy. No spots. No doubt another virus.

Rosylily · 19/05/2008 14:57

Piffle my sisters little boy is fearless like that. (He is also called Finn ) He is two and a half and he rides one of those little bikes with no peddles at 100 miles an hour (like this ).
My nerves were wrecked just watching him while my sis ran after him and it was all mad.
Thank goodness Finn was okay. I don't know what you can do when it is their nature to be so fast and fearless.

Evenhope I hope your dd is on the mend.
I deleted scramble, I couldn't work out the stupid game, didn't like the timer and my sister sent me a 'congratulations' for beating my previous score with a new score of two points stuff that

kiwibella · 19/05/2008 15:27

hope you and your dd enjoy cuddling today Evenhope! Fingers crossed that she is well soon.

Piffle - the daring Finn!! He is soo tricky playing boo. I would have freaked, like you did. Kate is an active bunny too... I am despairing at trying to keep a reign on her.

We have done the two spoon thing for feeding ever since I started weaning. It was one of those tips you hear so we haven't had a prob yet, touch wood. I have trouble getting Kate to eat anything at breakfast although she will bf about 27 times before 10am. It feels like that many anyways . It's probably about 6!!

What's up with our breezy days? I was getting used to the sunshine .

TheBlonde · 19/05/2008 16:49

Hope all the ill LOs are improving

I was wondering if anyone's LOs have had the next set of jabs yet?
Hib/MenC, MMR, PCV
(I know some of you were doing singles instead of MMR)

Rosylily · 19/05/2008 19:18

Hasan had his hib/men c on thursday. All fine so far, didn't even give him calpol.

Callieco · 19/05/2008 19:42

Hello all.

Aarghh for active kids. sometimes I'm very glad Jordi isn't walking yet, apart from with me holding him all time.

He's got more difficult to feed. He nearly always has to have another spoon to hold, or will sometimes feed himself if I load the spoon. No prob if it is finger food tho.

TheBlonde, Jordi's had them all except MMR which I need to make another appt for. I am considering leaving it until the other side of the summer tho, just so we're not likely to be away if he does get a reaction to it, as I understand it can make them a bit poorly about two weeks after in some cases.

Well I spent some of this afternoon cutting and smashing down part of our garden. We're getting a new shed and are in the process of removing a massively overgrown fuchsia tree - it's not a bush any more - and part of the fence, as our neighbours have a parallel one up anyway, so it means we get more garden space. Was great fun!

fitfox · 19/05/2008 20:11

Oh are the supposd to have Hib/MenC?? DoH!

Do we get a reminder letter or something?

DS2 will have the SepVax M, M & R

The Mighty Finn!!!

fitfox · 19/05/2008 20:13

Rosy glad you had a lovely weekend!! I love the sound of your house - it sounds like organised chaos

The kids here all whizz around on those trendy wooden learner bikes form the age of about 4 months!

spicemonster · 19/05/2008 20:25

Hello

So glad things are getting better for you sponge - sounded grim! Piffle - Elliot is a bit of a wuss which I have always found a bit annoying (except for climbing where it doesn't occur to him he might fall) until I read your post

Blimey - you must have aged several years!

We have absolute refusal to be fed here except for yoghurt and weetabix. Largely it's finger food though - he is particularly fond of peanut butter and marmite sandwiches Elliot would also eat nothing but cake and biscuits if he could get away with it. I have a pack of those Organix moon biscuits which I always thought were okay as they're sugar free but read the back of the pack the other day and there's 50 calories in each one!! That's more than a digestive biscuit! So now I try and have some marmite rice cakes on me for snacks instead. He likes fruit luckily and would eat his own body weight in yoghurt if I let him.

Only two more days of nursery and then I'm home alone - aaargh! I am going to have to start making friends with other mums aren't I? I'm scared - I'm crap at small talk

spicemonster · 19/05/2008 20:26

Elliot has had his hib/men c (and was absolutely fine). We're doing singles for the MMR - am waiting for an appointment.

evenhope · 19/05/2008 20:30

DD was feeding this teatime and getting pinker and pinker. Took her temp and it was 40.1 Dashed her to the doc and told the receptionist I needed to see someone as she was burning up. To my amazement we got to see our own doctor (first time in over a year), and DD has a throat infection.

I almost didn't take her..

Divastrop · 19/05/2008 20:55

evenhope- that is some temperature!hope she's ok.

piffle-!!!finn must be highly inteligent to play a joke on you like that.i imagine he will have some high-powered job and do extreme sports at weekends when he grows up

no jabs atall here.Elsie got to the top of the stairs yesterday as dh was coming out of the bathroom.he nearly s**t himself.i think shes forgotten she did it now.she is learning to put words together now,at the moment its 'up there' and points upwards.i dont know what she can see.

Divastrop · 19/05/2008 20:56

oh,and apart from yoghurts she's been feeding herself since she was about 9 months.i just put the food in front of her and let her get on with it

Rosylily · 20/05/2008 09:36

Foxy more like disorganised chaos but cleaner comes today (woohoo)

I didn't see dh for dust yesterday he left so quickly! Apparently he has essential paper work to do

Evenhope how is your dd today?

evenhope · 20/05/2008 14:55

I left DD with DS2 today and went in to work. If we work just 6 hours we don't have to take a lunch break, so I left at 2pm. She's been asleep ever since I got home (and I need to feed her). Probably to make up for not sleeping last night. She looks better though- not so flushed.

spicemonster · 20/05/2008 15:44

rosy - my cleaner has been today too. It's bliss isn't it? There are two hours where the house looks nice before Elliot comprehensively destroys it again!

evenhope - what has the doctor given her? Poor thing - it's so scary when they have a high fever.

diva - I think you're very sensible to have had Elsie feed herself since 9 months. I discovered at nursery that they give Elliot food which is so finely pureed it's entirely smooth. And then I wonder why he won't eat what I've made him Still, we have 2 months now to ourselves. By the end of it, I want him to be able to use a spoon (not sure about yoghurt or weetabix though - recipe for redecorating )

evenhope · 20/05/2008 16:00

She's got amoxycillin (DS2 said "wow banana medicine- can I have some"). I'm struggling to get it into her. She is fighting syringe and trying to grab the spoon and turn it upside down.

fitfox · 20/05/2008 20:35

Evenhope - I hope your DD recovers quickly

Rosylily · 21/05/2008 09:55

Evenhope, we had that problem when Hasan was sick. It just adds to the distress, I hope you can manage to get her to take something.

Where has that Muppet one got to?

Spicemonster, yep it is bliss for two hours here too I would need her here every day rather than every week!

I am so sick of breastfeeding today. Am bored and annoyed stuck with a limpet when I want to get on with things! (fume)

Piffle · 22/05/2008 20:07

hope dd is lots better evenhope. She does sound very poorly bless her.
all mine suck medicine spoons dry... No idea but am very grateful.

Finn has had light cough and cold over last week very minor butvtoday find out that every toddler and baby at the nursery next to dds school have had chicken pox. He's very clingy and not himself so am presuming he's getting it. Would be good get it over with and dd has never had it so half term as good a time as any. We are on 6 terms here so next week is hols AGAIN...

Well am on diet of healthy grub not obsessive like but knocking the crap that was creeping in day to day. Plus using wiifit to exercise. Tis great fun hopefully will tone up and shed some belly blubber.
summer makes it harder to conceal...
right must go and prepare some supper for dp hardworking honey pie.

Shout out to all those with relationship issues? Kiwi, mossy, foxy, rosy? How's it all going.

Has shanks been onnto update us on the gorgeous new girlie?

And see jay popping in now and then waves back
diva lass how you doing?

Who have I missed oh god...

Piffle · 22/05/2008 20:08

sponge?
callie?
mind like plughole here

Divastrop · 22/05/2008 20:55

piffle-tis half term here next week also.im sure theyve only just gone back.i am ok just trying to stay sane-ish,not easy since the fecking group therapy has been cancelled now till june 5th.so lots of past crap has been stirred up and now weve been abandoned.

dd1 been arguning and fighting in the back street again.i dont like to say it but she is a gobshite and alot of it is her own doing.i know im a gobshite on here but in RL i tend to avoid confrontation if poss.

where is mossy?and muppet?i dont know if they have been on FB as every time i go on there it soes o a go slow and i give up after 5 minutes.

a woman at mother+toddler asked if i'd been dieting today

i wish Elsie would hurry up with her teeth,i cant remember the last time she slept through the night.

hello to everyone

bethoo · 23/05/2008 10:57

hi everyone,
blimey so much to catch up on.
THe Blonde ds had his MMR etc at 13 months and he was fine after.

Piffle - ds also has a deathwish! cant turn my back for a minute as he is either balancing on top of something or squeezed into somewhere and wedged himself!

my bm has dried up which makes me wonder how long Hayden was latching on and not actually getting anything

well i had my 20 week scan and i have to confess i was a bit upset at finding out i was having a girl. i was all prepared for a little brother for Hayden even had a name! i think a big part of it is worrying that i will have the same relationship as i did with my mother, even now i hate being aroudn her. will my dd think the same way towards me i fear?

shanks313 · 23/05/2008 11:43

Hi everyone

Finally get 5 minutes to come on here and update you all.
I hope everyone is okay
Bethoo-girls are fun, congrats, cant believe its 20 weeks already.

Deanna has got another cold/cough.She took 10 steps today so will be running around pretty soon. She can climb the stairs but doesnt know how to get down as yet.Her vocabulary is great, shes now saying ball, bum, whats that?,Zach, woof woof, cat,Deejay,no more, milk and a few others.

Miley is doing well.Since birth we have had screaming fits every night and couldnt make it better. She often would cry herself to sleep.Last week she came out in a rash on her face, she had green stools etc.I took her to the hv who thought it was reflux and to try gaviscon.Tryed that and there was no change. So took her ot see gp and shes now been put on a lactose free milk.
The screaming fits are now not so bad and the rash seems to be clearing so hopefully shes on the mend.Miley has her last feed at 11ish and then doesnt have another till 8am so not too bad.

Very hard work and been very worrying but I think things are looking up now.
