March 2007: Babies no longer: the road to Toddlerdom

1000 replies

MrLSG · 01/05/2008 22:50

MrsLSG suggested it, so her it is...

I've observed that calling Toby a baby isn't really accurate anymore, he (as one of the younger March babies - actually being born in April) is now toddlering (or is that staggering?), hence the title of the thread.

Sorry if Dad's aren't allowed around here: But Toby just loved joining in garden football with his big brother and dad earlier tonight.

OP posts:

Boo ovely to see you back, glad you're posting again - rough ride by sounds of it. Good luck for next time

Shanks the eye thing sounds scary, good on you for getting it caught quite soon though, hopefully it means they can sort it out properly?
Miley sleeps so well !!! Hope the eczema clears up as she grows. Deanna sounds a poppet! Finn also love to dance! And he would and frequently is the last one left standing in our house!

Rosy also adored that book, LOVE Joanne Harris a lot.

Well today our kitchen is coming out! And yep not easily, calls to busy horrid insruance people, we have no kitchen atm...
grimness

Sod all other news, Finn talking mor and more, can point and say nose, eyes, ears etc... which bloody impressed me, more to do with dd endlessly entertaining him with songs which he loves I think...
Plus he asks for kisses now and will not settle to bed for the night unless everyone comes and kisses him in the cot.
VERY CUTE!
He sleeps through now... He woke last night at 11pm first time in ages
]Offered tghe boob and he bloody refused it, turned over and said nigh nighs and went back down with nothing
Have to confess to being gutted
One quick snuggly feed at bedtime and that's it and he sometimes refuses that as he eats a big old dinner.
He is currently desp trying to pedal dds trike, but his legs are about an inch too short....

Tee hee
Mossy your hols sounded lovely

Mel hi! Nothing to advise on chewing, we used to use a whistle to train our dogs to stop chewing?

Right know I've missed loads
Diva good luck for adoption xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Divastrop · 23/06/2008 12:27

hi mel-in my experience the only thing you can do is put everything out of reach untill they are about 2 and start to grow out of it.

Elsie is very confident at going up and down stairs(female-sensible )and she showed off to the woman this morning by taking 2 steps.

the visit went fine, although i had to answer questions about nasty xh,in front of dh,which wasnt nice.oh well.luckily the woman has a 7 year old son so it shouldnt be too bad when she comes to speak to ds.

ReverseThePolarity · 23/06/2008 12:38

Will try to post properly later. In the meantime, Mel hello! Could it be teething? Could you try substituting non-appropriate chewing things for more appropriate ones? Hard frozen carrot, teething toys etc?

Can anyone help me here?

kiwibella · 23/06/2008 20:59

hi everyone... welcome back Boo, glad you are feeling brighter... hello Mel - my lo found teething rings appealing!! Hope you find a solution.

There is suddenly so much news here!!

Happy birthday to your ds, Fox. I'm glad you enjoyed his celebration too .

Your experience with the doctors/hospital/your eye sounds frightening Shanks. I hope that this can be sorted for you.

Humungous hugs to you and your sister Spicey... being a stay-at-home mum is so tempting!! I am especially loving it now that the days are warmer.

Diva... sending lots of warm fuzzies your way for you all as you go through the adoption process. Hope your ds is handling it all ok. How do you feel about the referral to the psych?

Mossy - I read your other thread earlier... there were lots of good suggestions from the posters then... I'll check back I hope that you can decide what is most important for you in terms of your lo's care.

Enjoy your week camping-style Piffle!!!

kiwibella · 23/06/2008 21:00

oh, I see it is colourful Reversey!!!

fitfox · 23/06/2008 22:31

Hiya - [waves to Kiwi]

Monti-Chubs has a molar!!!! just the one mind!!!

mel1981 · 23/06/2008 22:45

Thanks for all your help on the chewing situation....ive tried most of wot was mentioned already -got no where else to hide things and teething toys worked wonders but think hes grown out of them now- so I guess its just wait til he grows out of it!!
Thanks again..

Divastrop · 23/06/2008 23:08

fox-Elsie has one molar as well.i ilke the way she screams blue murder every night for weeks when the incisors are coming, but the molar just appears

bella-i am quite relieved after 16 years of having depression on and off that i finally may find out wtf is going on(ie that im insane)

ds2 doesnt quite understand what is happening i think.he never asks questions and seems to think i produced him by myself.really its just a formality in order to make sure xh no longer has PR for him.

when i was putting dd2 to bed she started saying 'mummy's nanny in the hall'.i said 'do you mean nanny?' and she repeated twice more 'no,mummy's nanny in the hall!'.i didnt think anything of it untill i realised its a year ago today my nan died.

kittywise · 24/06/2008 09:52

Oh Diva, that's spooky, I think kids often see spirits. When we first moved here ds1 (then about 18 months) kept waving to something/one in an empty room, very odd.

It would be lovely if your nan was there watching over you all( I'm sure she is), you were very close to her weren't you?

Do you know when you get your first appt with the psyhc?
Glad the meeting with CS went well.

Hi kiwi, how are things going at home?

Happy birthday to your ds1 foxy, boys' birthdays are always bonkers mad. I am finding that they are calming down a bit now that they are older, Thank God!

Get you with all your teething babes, Ron still only has 1 tooth, with a second one just having cut the gum. Puts a limit on the kind of food he can eat of course.

Mossy I can't add anything else to your thread really advice all seems good and sensible. Hope you get to a compromise that suits you both

Ronnie has taken to climbing up on the kitchen table and running around all over it he can also get up the ladder on the climbing stuff we have in the garden and in playgrounds.

Three little ones and me a bit sicky today, hopw it doesn't last long.

Hello mel

hello to anyone else I've missed

kiwibella · 24/06/2008 12:20

Diva... I have to say that I agree with Kitty totally and believe that our littlies can see special friends. I also wonder whether it is something that we grow out of. I remember when Kate started walking and would stop at all the flowers/bushes/plants and be waving and calling hello. It both spooked and delighted me!!

Glad that your little man is taking this all in his stride. I'm also pleased that you are feeling positive about your health.

Kitty - I'm also battling with the dining table. I have even slapped Kate's leg after warning her about climbing on top guilty mother alert. Yesterday she was looking at me provocatively as she lifted her leg upwards... and then slapped it herself and said "no". I don't know what the answer is... cos it's just not done culturally for hubs' family (bums - tables - food)

Things are ok at home. A friend is treating me awfully which is upsetting me big time atm. Hubs has paid off two credit cards this month which is a huge relief... I still have no idea where all the money goes in this house as it seems like we have heaps coming in. It frustrates me endlessly but I have given up. The girls keep me amused.

kittywise · 24/06/2008 17:22

What's happening with your 'friend' kiwi? Sounds upsetting
Shall we come round and sort her out ?

Rosylily · 24/06/2008 18:27

shanks sorry to hear about your eyes. I hope it can be sorted out for you soon.

Foxy happy belated birthday wishes to your ds.

Hi Mel

Kiwi it is like a chimpanzees tea party in my house every meal time. Hasan is strapped firmly in his booster seat and from there he throws food all over the place and generally makes a huge mess along with the rest of them. I'm oblivious at this stage!

Diva my ds2 was having a conversation with an (invisible) man outside my house the day my uncle died and he was presuming I could see the man...was a bit odd must admit!

Reverssy I'll check out your thread......

fitfox · 24/06/2008 20:51

Rosy I can't strap Monti-chubs into any seat (apart from car seat/buggy). He is like a small hairless gorilla - a minature King Kong. He often runs out to the front gate and RATTLES it like a BEAST!!

He has another molar today!!!! (agree they just pop out with no fuss, unlike canines )

Diva - I think children are often psychic and much more sensitive than adults. I used to Astral project almost every night when I was about 8!!! How lovely to think your Nan came back to say hello to you and the children on her anniversary

Kiwi - what is your friend doing? Can you just avoid her for a while if she's being a cow?

Kitty I have found some really cute pics of Ronnie from when they all got together

SHALL WE TRY FOR A SUMMER HOLS MEET UP THEN???

Divastrop · 24/06/2008 21:29

bella-i take it you dont deal with the finances?the price of food and energy has gone up stupid amounts in the past year.

i blame all these fairtrade/organic/green enthusisats myself

why is your friend treating you badly?

i told dh what dd2 said and he said 'yeah,i know, ive sensed her a few times but i didnt say anything as i know it freaks you out'.
i used to be open-minded and unafraid, but ive spent the last 10 years trying to 'fit in' and be 'normal'

that Elsie walked across her bedroom this morning, and the length of the landing this afternoon.when she fell on her bum she started clapping

Jaysfinished · 24/06/2008 22:01

BOO!!

kittywise · 24/06/2008 22:22

Hi jay, how's it going?

kittywise · 24/06/2008 22:22

yes Foxy summer hold meet would be fab!

kittywise · 24/06/2008 22:22

hols

Rosylily · 25/06/2008 07:21

Well we have two school days left here. Holidays start at the end of June. I love the summer holidays .

Foxy lol at your discription of cute Monti

Diva I have never felt 'normal' either (whatever 'normal' may be), and I think one of the great things about getting older is that you can become more relaxed and comfortable in your own skin. I hope you get some joy from the psychiatrist. I still think all this experience is leading somewhere for you. (you would make a fantastic music therapist )

Hi Jay! how is your business idea coming along?

fitfox · 25/06/2008 10:13

Halloooo[waves]!!

Lovely sunny day here :

Monti chubs is trying to get milk out of my arm!

Oh now he is blowing rasberries at himsef in the mirror

Well done Elsie - several small steps towards toddlerdom!!

kiwibella · 25/06/2008 11:00

oh goodenss... I have to clarify that Kate normally sits in her highchair for meals!!! The climbing on the table is at other times.... we're in a little flat so the dining table is always accessible.

Love the image of Monti rattling the gate .

Rosy... I remember going to Ireland about this time last year, as school was finishing up. The children get such a long break. I hope that you enjoy having them all home .

MissE is home today... grrr... girls blobbed out on the sofa after staying up way too late last night!! The teachers have the day to meet all the parents to end of year reports.

We would love to join you all for a summer meet up... just say when, we have no plans.

Yes, Diva - I don't get a peep at the finances and it frustrates me. I do open the mail now that I am home so I have an idea of how things are going.

It's fascinating that your dh has sensed someone too... and good that he told you. I know what you mean about 'conforming' because I am a people-pleaser. I spose that's what has upset me so much about losing a friend.

Kitty... yes please to the offer... but I think I'm slowly leaning towards Foxy's suggestion of staying clear. I have thought about starting a thread here but I'm flattering myself by thinking that she may lurk here too.

After a brilliant day yesterday and a touch of sunburn, it's blustery today. I was looking forward to getting outdoors again - fresh air is so good for my soul

LunarSea · 25/06/2008 12:24

I wish Toby's molars would appear with no fuss. Every time he's about to get one he gets a temperature, and gets sent home from nursery. Currently on molar #4 - he's just gone back today after yet another 2 days off (just as well I work from home!).

ds1 is spending a day with his new teacher today. Not sure about the wisdom of putting a NQT in charge of a Y2 class with SATs looming, but we'll see...

kittywise · 25/06/2008 16:13

lunar, I agree an NQT should definitely NOT be dealing with sats

Jaysfinished · 25/06/2008 21:13

hi, all a bit stressful here, as you can imagine. Coop-de-coops AKA Cooper is doing well, 14 weeks, 18lbs...cant complain at my milk there can you....although in the past week or so hes started waking more in the night, i refuse to think about any kind of weening just yet, but i don't know what to do, my poor boobs get a thrashing!

The boy, AKA Jensen, is a law unto himself. still wakes through the night, sometimes once sometimes 4/5, screams till he gets milk ( in a cup i hasten to add, not from me!)he crys quite a lot, seems to be a bit of a wuss, if he falls a bit or if i leave the room, tears come out of nowhere, hes a trial, but very very cute with it. Have an appointment for ENT, in a few weeks, seems he has constant ear infections which could be affecting his way of life...ie, no sleep, irritable, not talking, will have to have grommets for glu ear...will have to report back and let you know how it goes.

The bomb, AKA Harriette, is a star, a real madam, loves bossing her bros around, and we are in the throws of potty training, joy of joys, any tips there gratefully received!

Other than that..i am trying to get fit (ISH) by starting Spin classes, boy its a killer, but i feel great when i do it!

nice to read up on everyones news, i do keep an eye on you all from afar!! Doubt the meet up will be any where near me, but should it be, i would love to go!

xx
