NEW THREAD!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LittleMissNorty · 17/04/2008 10:05

not very healthy is it? Not quite the homemade Annabel Karmel menu .....in my defence she does usually get something more healthy but I enjoyed it last night and I know she will today!

I really don't want to get into cooking one meal for us and something else for her (within reason obviously).....

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/04/2008 10:24

As long as it's not too salted I don't think there's much wrong with mash & beans, and I'm afraid I'm of the opinion that as long as it's not a frequent thing a little pie won't kill 'em.

LittleMissNorty · 17/04/2008 10:29

I totally agree Jammy.....its good enough for us occasionally....I don't cook the spuds with salt any more and beans are the low sugar and salt ones so I'm sure she'll enjoy it .

She's been asleep since 8.45am ....I could do with a morning nap myself but I have to work.....hard life being a baby isn't it

Bumperlicious · 17/04/2008 11:00

Morning all, norty are you going for you op? Is it a long recovery time?

We had a hideous night again. DD cried for about and hour and a half at 4am. She only wanted to sleep holding our hand which I wasn't having any of, as I'm not doing that every night. So I sat next to her and shushed her as she cried for an hour and a half. Then when I finally got back to sleep I kept waking up thinking I could hear her again. The she cried all morning as I got my breakfast and expressed. I'm so tired! When's it going to stop?

LittleMissNorty · 17/04/2008 11:13

Morning Bumper...sorry you're still having sleep issues....sounds horrible ....perhaps its teething and it'll pass soon?

Not having op today....just couldn't sort out DH in time (DD not a problem )....hopefully will only be a few days till I'm back to normal but needed him to take at least 2 days off....oh well...will wait for another date and get my mother here...

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/04/2008 11:29

Hi Bumper. Sorry you hada rough night. We had a run of those and then the following week she started sleeping through roughly 7.30 - 6 (most nights anyway), so there may be hope yet.

Bumperlicious · 17/04/2008 11:30

it's been going on about 6 weeks!

Bumperlicious · 17/04/2008 11:40

God I just don't know what to do any more. She refused to sleep this morning despite being tired, so now I've just fed her again, she fell asleep, tried to put her in the bedroom she cried, so fed her some more, she appeared to fall asleep but as soon as I leave the room she wakes up and starts crying, which I have now left her doing, and she has started doing these hight pitched squeals which just make it all so much worse. I don't know what we've done wrong to make her like this, and at the moment all I can think is I wish I was back at work!

lackaDAISYcal · 17/04/2008 11:53

bumper, my DD has been a nightmare to settle since the clocks moved and it's quite light in her room. Have you got blackout blinds?

Not sure about the middle of the night though? Could be teething? I know it took about three weeks of horriblemess before DDs top ones came through. If I'm in doubt, I just administer calpol and she usually settels after that

We've just been to see the doc. Apparently its a gastro bug doing the rounds and takes about two weeks to clear the system and I should be thankful she isn't vomming as well . Oh well, only another week to go

norty, pie mash and beans sounds lovely. We had bangers and mash the other week but DD got some left over roast pork instead of the bangers. she looked decidedly put out, so we gave her a bit of banger and it disappeared like you wouldn't believe! Can you get low salt bangers anywhere suitable for little ones? there may be a gap in the market there?

i hope you get a new date for the op soon norty.

Natty, sorry we missed you last night. I hope all is well.

i'm not really looking after myself at all and am eating whatever shite appeals. I've just gone to sainsbury's and come back laden down with chocolates ands sweets and biscuits .....but also some lovely organic strawberries (half price) as a token healthyness. I got in some ready meal as well, as cooking just makes me want to vomit at the moment. annabel karmel cottage pie anyone?

lackaDAISYcal · 17/04/2008 11:53

bumper have you asked on the "sleep is for the weak" thread?

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 17/04/2008 12:43

Just reinstated my own sleep thread. Don't think it's the light. Could be teeth, but been going on for so long and can't feel anything coming. Last night she just wanted to hold my finger, but I'm damed if I'm doing that every fricking night.

Anyway dd also loves sausages

lackaDAISYcal · 17/04/2008 13:05

has she got a cuddly that she loves bumper? would that do as a substitute finger?

i can see the worktops in the kitchen...yay!!!

LittleMissNorty · 17/04/2008 13:09

Hope you get some answers Bumper. Is DD in her cot now? Is it lack of security IYKWIM? Do you use a sleeping bag?

HV just been - age appropriate development and 10kg - what a fucking waste of time. Apparently she is eating too much dairy - doesn't need all that milk (2 x 9oz bottles and 1 x 5oz) and too much fromage frais, no juice, only water...reminds me of when I was in hospital...."warm water and cotton wool is all you put on a baby's bottom Mrs X, you can use the wipes on yourself" before she flounced off in disgust ...oh well, this one was quite nice and meant well.....

Fairy - Fury - Lilkel (any other FFs?) How much milk / dairy are your LOs getting? Am I giving DD too much? Is this the reason why I'm getting 4 dirty nappies a day from her?

BumperliciousNeedsToSleep · 17/04/2008 13:15

What's the problem with too much dairy norty? sounds like a load of tosh to me.

HellHathNoFury · 17/04/2008 13:27

Hey Norty.
Your HV sounds like a crackpot.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. As this age I think if it's healthy they can't have too much of it... and that includes dairy and milk.

Tell her to go forth and procreate. Crazy bitch.

HellHathNoFury · 17/04/2008 13:34

Just read a bit more... don't really know what to say re sleep problems Bumper - as you know I did CC and from memory you're not a big fan of that.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things - have you tried calpol?

LittleMissNorty · 17/04/2008 13:37

thanks ladies ....next question then....how many dirty nappies do you get a day? And are they solid or a bit Mr Whippy and up the back ....sorry! DD can have 4 sometimes 5 a day like that, and apparently cos I'm feeding her too much milk and dairy.

Do yours all have brown bread or white? Should be brown apparently....

LittleMissNorty · 17/04/2008 13:39

DD has white bread btw as well as cheese every day, fromage frais, sometimes juice as well as lots of other unhealthy things...I didn't even tell her about the wotsits

lackaDAISYcal · 17/04/2008 13:40

norty....I think 20fl ozs is the guideline amount for this age, but if your DD needs more than that, then let her have more (and it's only an extra 3ozs FFS). I think over consumption of milk only becomes an issue when they are like three or something! HV should be telling you that milk is still her main source of nutrition until a year old. Smile politely, nod your head and carry on regardless......

lackaDAISYcal · 17/04/2008 13:42

oh, and the HVs told me to give DD white bread as tey can't take too much fibre......there's no winning and so much contradictory advice. Do what you feel is natural......as long as it's not fruit shoots and pot noodles and she gets a range of foods she will be fine

(my DS lived on tins of beans and sausages from age two to three as it was all he would eat for his nursery packed lunch. wouldn't entertain sarnies and he needed to eat so......)

LittleMissNorty · 17/04/2008 13:44

Thanks - just what I needed to hear. No wonder I don't bother taking her to a clinic

Right, better get on....speak later ladies x

lackaDAISYcal · 17/04/2008 13:44

DD generally has two dirty nappies, sometimes three, but i think that's very much dependant on the baby. DS was a two a day man, regular as clockwork, whereas DD is a bit more fluid (literally at the moment) in her timings! they are usually quite solid though, with the odd whippy one. Never heard of that being due to too much dairy though

kaniluja · 17/04/2008 13:45

Its SG not anyone new just fancied a change. Just wanted to say HI and glad you guys are still here nattering away. I have been lurking now again, and have been meaning to 'come back' soon for ages and I will.......... hopefully you'll all still here by the time have sorted myself out!........ love and hugs to all xxxxxx

SG come baaaaack!
We miss you.
Wassup?

FrazzledFairyFay · 17/04/2008 13:52

Hi everyone.

DS has at least one fromage frais/yoghurt every day, sometimes up to 3. He has philadelphia sandwiches or cheese (the half white and half wholemeal bread) almost every lunchtime and the occasional piece of cheese. His bottles are now 2x 8oz and 2 x 4oz, although he rarely finishes any of them. The HV said he was having too much formula so i did cut down a bit, but he really likes them so I'm not cutting any more for a while. He also has milk in his porridge in the morning. He likes dairy and frankly at the moment, I'm sticking with what he likes. He does, of course, also get fruit and veg and some meat, rice, oats, etc.

He drinks water bt only becaue he likes it. DD always hated it so I gave her very diluted high juice orange squash or diluted apple juice - my reasoning being that it was better that she had that than no drink at all. You can buy baby squash as well.

Personally, I would stick with what works for you and just gradually cut out bottles, or reduce their size, as she eats more solids. As long as she has a varied diet, and doesn't have a bottle with coke in and a packet of crisps every morning, like a little boy I used to see every morning on my way to work, I personally don't think you need to worry too much.

As for poos - anything from 2 to 4 per day, varying from paste up the back to hard pellets, with occasional really soft ones. FF babies do tend to poo more than bf ones, DD always did at least 4 (often far more) poos a day and even now, at age 2.6, it's unusual for her not to do 2 or 3 a day.

Hope that helps?
