wee onion - I know what you mean/feel about nursery - it is hard, we have our next visit on wednesday.

katy - good luck with the visits

oooggs · 21/03/2008 09:15

morning caz - hurray to new kitchen - loads of tiles go with oak so looking and also look at their set up in the diy stores to give you ideas

weeonion · 21/03/2008 09:18

morning folks! how are you all and hope the sleeping was good!

Sexonlegs · 21/03/2008 09:47

Morning all.

SPB, sorry you didn't sleep well. It is a pita isn't it esp if the lo's are sleeping.

Hi WO. So glad C is better poor lamb.

Elkie, I hope I didn't offend you by suggesting the contents of the envelope may have been left out by the sender. It is just I know how easy it is when you are rushing around to do things ike that. I do it at work! Put something in an envelope, take it to be franked and then remember I have forgotten to include something!!!

All ok here.

K woke at 6.15 though crying. I think by the looks of it she is about to get a load of teeth through. So, all 4 of us in bed, K nurofened up!

Have managed to give myself a fat lip. Was tidying B's room and knelt on her dolls car seat which flipped up and whacked be on the mouth. It is really numb. I look all pouty!!

Better go before dh gets cross with me being on mn and not enjoying family life!!!!

xx

So far today we have had brilliant sunshine, strong winds, heavy rain and thick snow. Just need some thunder and lightening and we'll have had it all

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2008 13:59

Wish T would wake up I want to show him the snow!

runnyhabbit · 21/03/2008 14:23

Hi all

Not much to report. Like WO, I'm lurking more than I'm posting

oooggs J will be starting nursery school in September, and the school that we would like him to attend is quite popular. Also, they let them attend full time from this age too.(but its a parental decision, not the schools, iyswim) Did worry that it would be a long day for him, in school, but he spends the same amount of time in nursery (nursery is 8 til 2, school will be 9 til 3)

I am feeling so rough today My glands are up, and my throat feel very sore and swollen. Not helped by the fact that I think W has got the same, and was up for about 2hrs last night.

On the plus side, dh is off til Tuesday, and its his birthday today, so we're going to a Thai restaurant tonight (boys with mum and dad)

take care all, and have a lovely weekend
xx

CaptainDippy · 21/03/2008 18:29

Poor you runny. xx

How is everyone today? I am ok, but exhausted - don't think I've quite recovered from being at mum's ... and it is just sooo horrid feeling so knackered and knowing you are not going to get a break and life is just going to go on like this for at least another 10 years or so

Sorry, I am ok really!

Glad you are feeling more positive NL xx

Caz - we have the B & Q solid oak classic kitchen and it's very nice! We have a mottled black worktop and black tiles (offset by cream walls).

WO / Oooggs - sorry you have had bad settling ins at nursery. Remember though, they are more likely to cry than not, especially at this age (peak separation anxiety age) - it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the nursery. And of course, if there IS something wrong with the nursery, nothing is forever, and if it doesn't suit them, you can try something else (unless as in Oooggs case it is subsidised by your employer )! I'm very lucky having settled O with the childminder at 5 months, that her face lights up when we go in, at the thought of all the playing she's going to be doing! Although N used to go through phases of crying at nursery until she was 4.

SOL - you have all been in the wars haven't you!

NL - glad you are feeling more positive. Your prayer evening thing sounds lovely! Meant to tell you (and CD) about a fridge magnet I saw in my friend's house this week which made me pmsl - it said "Jesus is coming - look busy!"

Have had a nice day today at 1st birthday party for one of O's little friends. N was really well behaved which was quite surprising as there were a lot of adults and babies in a fairly small room, and she was the only older child there. She took herself off into a little den until the dining table with a cuddly bush baby and stayed there playing for an hour and a half .

Am debating whether to take over the running of our local toddlers, which is currently closed because no-one wants to run it which is a real shame? Is anyone here involved with running a toddler group? Would you take it on because it would be lovely if it were happening, or avoid it with a barge pole?!?

elkiedee · 21/03/2008 20:27

SOL, no you didn't offend me, I'd love it if dp's aunt Daphne rang up saying that was the case and she's found the photos etc. It's the sort of thing I do too. Sadly I doubt it will happen.

Caz, great stuff re new kitchen.

I took D out to meet a mumsnetter today - she works in and lives above a pub a few miles from me with her two year old DS and we've been talking about trying to meet up for a few weeks. We visited a park but sadly it's still a bit chilly despite the sunshine, though D loved his ride in the baby swing, and then went to a chain coffee shop, sadly no highchairs or suitable meals, J's DS shared D's cheese (at least I had some food I could give him).

Tomorrow we're going to see an old friend of dp's and his two adopted daughters.

I realised something quite nice this week though, I have 3 more days leave left before the end of May than I realised. We get 5 days that are linked to bank holidays but don't have to be taken then, and as my work closes down totally between Christmas and New Year we normally have to take 2 or 3 of them then. However, I don't get bank holidays from when I was on maternity leave, but I do get my stat and privilege days. Now all I have to do is plan what I'm going to do with them.

elkiedee · 21/03/2008 20:41

Dippy, sorry you're tired.

Bramshott, did you take your dd(s) to the toddler group before? If you feel that you could spare that time regularly it sounds like a lovely idea to take it on. Is there anyone else who might be able to take on a shared commitment to it with you?

cazboldy · 21/03/2008 20:57

mine won't be solid wood - but hey, I'm not paying either! Dark grey worktops.... dh has said we can splash out on a new cooker though (if I can save that much before then

Bramshott - I used to help run the toddler group.....definitely not something to take on on your own. Would say it needs at least 4 of you, to cover illness etc, and help share the load. When we first started we used to take it in turns to pick up the key and open up, and buy the milk, biscuits etc

See if you can get some co-operation from the pre-school (if there is one) re insurance etc and toy storage.......

can't think of anything else, but feel free to ask if anything springs to mind, and I will do my best to help

Bramshott · 21/03/2008 21:08

Ooh, dark grey worktop sounds lovely!

The playgroup is in the school hall and I haven't been but was planning to (which was the point at which I found out it wasn't running any more!). There are toys which are stored in the hall, and a bank account. Insurance is something I don't know about, but if they were running before, they must have it? Or does it come from the school with the hall hire?

Caz - did you get anyone to fill in paperwork when they first came, along the lines of being responsible for their own children etc?!? Or is that really over the top?! Is £1 per family still pretty standard?

I think I need to gauge support amongst other mums at school with younger ones (there are a few in DD's class) and then see if there are a group of us. It just seems such a shame that the stuff is there but no-one to run it.

Bramshott · 21/03/2008 21:10

Also meant to say to CAPTAIN DIPPY - are you looking for more work? Saw a job advertised today in Eastbourne - Community Arts Assistant at Willingdon Community School - 15 hours p/w. £15,153 - £16,217 pro rata. I have still got the advert so let me know if you want more info. Sounds like you have more than enough on your plate though!

cazboldy · 21/03/2008 21:12

Think I would check about the insurance, but sounds like you have all the basics re the insurance, it was only 3rd party, to cover fire/theft of toys, and we had a big sign along the lines of "Your children remain your responsibility at all times"

We used to do £1 a session (drinks and biccies included) and first session free

oooggs · 21/03/2008 21:16

Bramshott - at least I know there is no problem with the nursery as ds1 has been going there for over 3 years and I know the staff very well.

They just haven't been left and they can wind each other up. DS2 was fine until dd has a paddy and that started him off.

I also know that this is not a good time (age wise) for them to start nursery (ds1 was 14 mths) but I wasn't prepared to leave them any earlier.

CaptainDippy · 21/03/2008 21:17

PMSL @ "Jesus is coming - look busy"

Thank you for pointing out the job, Bramshott, so sweet of you - I have to admit I saw that job in my local paper and thoguht "Ooooh!"; but I have two jobs now, working 18 hrs per week - So I think I have quite enoguh to do right now; but thank you anyway sweetie! ... Oh, and how exactly do you "de-artex" a ceiling!!?

Bramshott · 21/03/2008 21:17

Thanks Caz. Arggh, I don't know. Part of me (most of me?!) feels like "oh no, it's too much hassle, I'll just find somewhere else to take O on a Monday", and part of me feels that if everyone felt like that, nothing would ever happen, and that not much goes on in these villages so it's such a shame if the toddler group can't even keep going!

CaptainDippy · 21/03/2008 21:18

OOOOOOH - I couldn't help noticing that Luce said S wasn't crawling yet - - So P isn't the only one!
