blimey mmh, was she no good then, your mat cover lady?

fwi, gg goes to bed awake after a feed and change at about 7pm. i dream feed him around 10, he will usually sleep til 3-4am, doze back off if reflux OK, and then wakes up, like clockwork (its freaky) at 0520 every damn morning.

i try to convince myself i like these 55 minutes alone with him before the rest of the house gets up. and mostly that works. but i'd trade my grandma in for that bit of extra sleep

so, upside, completely stress free evenings. downside, being able to sing along with the dawn chorus.

3madboys · 14/05/2008 16:29

god Rudi has no real pattern with his sleeping tbh, i am trying to get him to go down in the evenings and have had two evenings in a row where he slept from 8:30 9 till after eleven which was fab then he tends to go two or three hours between feeds, but he is in bed with us and tbh i dont always notice what time he feeds, sometimes he has good big feeds and then sleeps for a couple of hours and other nights he 'snacks' and just sleeps in my arm so that he can graze whilst i doze/sleep.

how big is gg now merry?

Rudi is HUGE last time i had him weighed he was almost 16lb and he is in 6-9mths clothes for lenght, which are 'just' right, he is almost too long for his carrycot on the frog, at 8wks old

Jaysfinished · 14/05/2008 20:33

Quick 'dip'in ladies!!

Seems like most of everyone is coping ok - on way or another!
Things here are pretty much ok also. DS2 now weighs in at 16lbs also and is in (mostly)6-9 mths clothes. Crazy how quickly these tiny (?!!) creatures grow and expand, purely on milk!
Daytimes i dont really have a set routine, feeds are generally 'around' the same time every day, but i don't get het up about keeping to it ridgedly...well with a 2 yr old and a 1 yr old to deal with aswell, its a bit hard to! BUT bedtime is alwasy the same, Feed at 5, bath at 6.30 ( after i have got the other two into bed) top up feed at 7, then he goes down awake, and wakes about 3 ish for a full feed, then about 5.30 - whats with the 5.30 thing!!?? normally has a little feed then, but rarely settles for any length of time after that. Prob take him into our bed and 'shush' him untill 7, where upon the day starts all over!!

I swear by a night time routine, it keeps me sane!

As for the sex thing....Going to have the coil on Thursday, i guess i will have no excuse after that!! Its strange, when i was pregnant i was always up for it, now DS here it never crosses my mind....poor DH!!

merryberry · 14/05/2008 21:43

growing way more slowly than that 3madboys! he is just 13lbs now, i think he probably lost near 1.5lbs in total before he began to gain, and now he is having to curtail some of his feeds as he is refluxing. he is also an enormous 62cm long and also wearing 6-9mths in various brands, 3-6 still in others....he has changed so wonderfully, lost the excess fat and now looks like such a fit, miniature prop forward (and I don't even care much for rugby). very long body like his dad.

I am actually online to read about reflux before seeing hv tomorrow when i get him his imms. but he is developing so well in other ways, its a joy (head holding, chortling, staring at arms, and poking tongues at each other are my fave)

modsaluk · 14/05/2008 22:02

Hello mums,

Sorry not been on for ages never seem to have five minutes at the moment. Millie and Harry are doing well, although still been sicky babies can not seem to go a day without one of them been sick all over usually on the other baby. Millie has thrush on her tongue she has had two different types of medicine for it but she still seems to have it, they have got their six week check next tuesday although they will be eight weeks old. I have had two periods since they were born and the second one i am still on have been for 13 days now bit fed up of it.

Going to catch up on the posts now.

Hope you are all ok.

Jaysfinished · 14/05/2008 22:26

Merry, DS1 had silent reflux, it never casued him to lose weight but feeding was hell for about 5 months ( got so bad that after three months of awful BF i gave in and went on the ff, then it gradually got better, if you need any first hand experiences, shout up!

3madboys · 14/05/2008 22:57

can i ask about the symptoms of reflux, ds4 is a REALLY sicky baby, sick after all his feeds and always possetting etc, he often gets quite distressed and sometimes brings back whole feeds, he is also a wriggly sod when feeding and bfeeding can be a nightmare at times. despite this he is thriving, its just me that finds it hard work as he feeds pretty much hourly during the day and two hourly at night, also he doesnt like lying down so tends to sleep in my arm at night and has to be upright most of the day.

on the positive side, he is a very smiley baby and has started to interact with his brothers, we get lots of cooing and gurgling, he loves watching ds3 run around and gives him HUGE grins and has even laughed at him

PurlyQueen · 14/05/2008 23:07

Sex? Did it for the first time in months two weeks ago. The verdict? Perfectly pleasant but I'd rather had had the extra sleep

Prisci · 15/05/2008 02:32

LO routine goes more or less like that, small feed at 7pm, bath, a feed after it until 8pm or so, cuddle and down by 8:30pm, sleeps until 2am and wakes for a feed, wakes up again at 5am for another feed and sleeps until 7am or so (this morning he did not and just grunted for an hour or so). Feeding lying down is really worth a try, it means you can sleep and feed at the same time i.e. I feed and usually when LO stops it wakes me up in order to put him back in his moses basket.
Tried waking LO for a few days in a row at 10pm, but it did not work since he still woke up at 2am.
I am also quite worried about how his routine is going to be affected as we are coming to the UK for a few days and then to Berlin next week, his first flight, jet lag (4 hours difference) etc.... He is also getting his jabs 2 days before leaving, I hope he will have recovered by then indeed.

Sex wise, nothing yet, kind of need it but quite worried about it, also as things are so medicalised in Bermuda, you keep being told you cannot have sex until your 6 weeks check which is next Monday, so DP is not even thinking it could be a possibility.

MarchNowFebMum · 15/05/2008 09:38

sanam on exact same schedule as gg and similar to jay. day is a bit variable but night always the same. doesn't always respond to dream feed but i always try. hv says it takes 4-5 days in a row for them get it so maybe keep trying prisci?

had her weighed monday and was surprised she was only 12 lbs, thought she looked much bigger! still 50th percentile so fine - btw, midwife gave me growth chart insert for bf babies, ask for if you are bf and don't have, it didn't come with my initial red book

sorry to hear of reflux - sounds awful. not as bad but pretty awful is our cradle cap - reccomend epaderm (hv can write prescription) if needed. has helped immensely along with shampooing every day although her head still smells of sick from time to time - wasn't prepared for that, I tink it's a result of the dead skin!

sex was once at 8 weeks, nothing since then. it was fine but as purly queen says, would rather have a nap or a cuddle/shared joke with dh these days!

HolidaysQueen · 15/05/2008 11:29

I had my first night out last night as I had a leaving do for my old boss at a posh restaurant in town - DH had the date in his calendar for babysitting since before DS was born!!!

It was really nice to get out and see people but I really missed my boy (and my DH of course!) DS didn't seem to miss me though and was perfectly happy with his bottles although he ate loads - he fed at 5pm as usual before I went so we were expecting just his normal small post-bath feed at 7pm so I left a bottle of 4oz for that. How wrong was I? He wolfed down the EBM and DH ended up having to get some formula to top him up - he ended up having 7oz!!!

merryberry · 15/05/2008 12:43

am wiped out 3madboys, from 2 hours spent in bloody baby clinic. have gaviscon to try at next feed. will tell you how i get on. HV saw gg feed, regugitate and squawk and says yes deffo silent reflux (thanks Jay, will be back about this asap!). in the meantime, I read this site as recommened by a MN thread

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 15/05/2008 14:56

Charlie's routine similiar to most of the others. Have been feeding him at 7pm and putting him down but he is falling asleeep before then so bedtime will be moved to 6.30. He will usually sleep from 7 to 1am. Then, if I'm lucky will go to 5 but mostly not. If he doesn't wake at 1am then he wakes at 11 and 3 and 6. Which is so much better than the 2 hourly feeds we've been having since he was born.

We have no routine in the day really as my days vary during the week and tbh, I've been concentrating on getting him to understand that when it is night, we sleep!! And he does understand, bless him.

Also have a feeling that DS is probably the filthiest baby on this thread. He's lucky if he gets 2 a week!!

Oh and a naked Maggie T, God help us.

merryberry · 15/05/2008 16:18

mama, i only bath gg maximum twice a week as well..doesn't need it i don't think..will soon enough..and i leave it til i have no other distractions so we can have a good rub down and i can do his head properly and we can basically enjoy it. what he gets instead is me for a quietish half an hour while his brother has a bath with dad.

marchmum, gg's cradle crap has resolved down to nasty dandruff recently. i hope sanam's does soon as well. i don't know about you, but gg had to tolerate me lifting the scabs off compulsively. couldn't help myself. i basically oil his head up after his baths so he leaves slicks behind him on me and furniture. before the baths i brush up all the lumps of it up and then bathe them off. i top up the oil whenever i get tempted to pick some off, as that smoothes them down and i behave myself until the next treatment. luckily he loves the brushing, whereas he loathed the picking.

it is looking very positive on the gaviscon front so far. i'll let you know how that goes when he has had a bit more.

merryberry · 15/05/2008 16:25

marchmum! thread for you here what do you think about male midwives?

c4it · 15/05/2008 19:14

Hi all, sorry not posted for a while - seem to be reverting to my serial lurking habit .

We are all doing well - DS is 7 weeks now and had HV check up on Tuesday. All ok, now 12lb 2 and 57cms long(can't remember head measurement). He is sick after most feeds, and sometimes brings up whole feeds, but as it doesn't seem to bother him too much and he is thriving and not dehydrated, I'm not worrying about it.

We don't have any bedtime routine yet as he still doesn't have a pattern for when he settles in the evening. I generally go to bed with him (in his crib) whenever he settles after feeding most of the evening. He then wakes between 2am and 3am and again at around 5am (just in time for the Radio 4 shipping forecast!). DP then gets up with him and DD whenever she wakes up and I get a couple of hours sleep with my earplugs in. Heaven! I guess that is the plus side of DP being a stay at home dad (I'm the breadwinner and will be going back to work full time in January). The downside is the cashflow crisis aka SMP

Sex - Done it once at about 6 weeks but like so many others, would have prefered the sleep! Jays I'm thinking of having a coil fitted too but am not sure if the IUD or IUS would be better. Have you had one before? If yes, how did you find it? I would prefer the IUD but am worried about heavy/painful periods. Speaking of which, I've not had one yet, but I guess given DS is still exclusively bf that is not unusual.

Sorry for the essay girls!

MrsPhas3 · 15/05/2008 19:55

c4it - you go to sleep in the crib too! Must be great both of you being at home, although when DH has a few days off we always seem to spend more.

We've had a pretty good week. Went to our Toddler group this week, DS was lying back relaxing, another Mum was crouching down chatting to him, whilst I was off eating biscuits discussing world peace, he started grizzling, I went back to him, crouched down and he immediately gave me a whopping great big smile. He knows me and he likes me . I have a feeling I'm being a little pfb about him, which seeing as he's my third (but most likely my last) is a little embarrassing .

He only has a few baths a week - will probably start having more when he starts playing on the floor and getting into stuff more.

merryberry · 15/05/2008 20:02

...and wearing his food, all that lovely mucky joy to come...

turtle23 · 15/05/2008 20:48

My LO is bathed daily. I know it's too much, but he screams with pleasure when he gets in, smiles all the way through...and, to be honest, he is a collector of mystery sticky blue fluff. His little hands are always full of it when you finally get them uncurled (which he does happily in the bath.) I dont use any soapy things, just occasionally some aqueous creme. Is that too horrible if he loves it so much? I sometimes get in with him which is apparently even more amusing, and it's always followed by a 20 minute massage (him, not me) which makes him super hungry and sleepy.

modsaluk · 15/05/2008 22:24

It looks like reading most of the threads here that all of our babies are sicky, and that most of them only bathed a few times a week, we only bath the twins a few times a week and i was feeling really guilty as we used to bath my eldest DS everyday so glad it is the norm.

Millie has her hearing test tomorrow as she failed it in the hospital i have no worries about her hearing though she seems to hear everything. They have also got their 6 week check and first injections next tuesday i am dreading it DH is hoping to come with me dont know how i will comfort both of them if not.

MissingMyHeels · 15/05/2008 22:29

I bath DD every day too turtle. She also gets the blue fluff and also I think for girls it's a bit more important to bath more regularly as her pooh gets all in her bits which can't be nice!

She bloody loves it too - the grins I get are awesome I also got her a swimming costume yesterday. When do you think you will take your LO's swimming? My friend took her DD at 2 weeks which I though was mental but maybe I am being all pfb about this...

turtle23 · 15/05/2008 23:18

I've always been told not to take babies swimming until they've had all their jabs...12 weeks? If you do take them swimming, make sure i's a pool warm enough for babies. I will be starting at 12 weeks, where will you be taking your DS, MMH?

turtle23 · 15/05/2008 23:19

DD,even.

HolidaysQueen · 15/05/2008 23:51

DS loves his bath - has one every day as well, mainly because he and his dad love their time together and it's a good way of calming him down and giving me a break from evening cluster feeding.

Anyway, he loves it so much that we have been looking in to taking him swimming. Apparently the advice on not taking babies swimming until after jabs is outdated. I don't have official govt type links to hand but have read this in a few places including here and on mumsnet threads and also been told this by my local swimming pool. We've bought a swim nappy for DS and are planning to take him this weekend - we tried to take him at 4 weeks but the pool was closed for a gala so we were thwarted!

timmyinatizzy · 16/05/2008 09:58

Mama my DS is lucky to get one bath a week! He is top and tailed everyday though. Is there a lazy mummy emoticon
