Welcome March Mums (and late Feb/early April Mums!) from the March 2008 threads.

OP posts:

When she is 12 weeks I will join the baby swim class at my gym (Virgin Active) but will probably take her to rainbow centre too as my gym don't have a baby pool, just a very warm big pool but not many family swim sessions.

I may take her this weekend and see how she gets on, you're supposed to build them up gradually apparently so want her to have been a few times before we start the class.

turtle - did you say you're doing baby massage? If so, where do you do the course?

turtle23 · 16/05/2008 10:26

MMH-i'm very lucky in that a girl in my nct group is an instructor. May start doing baby yoga at the yoga studio in sutton, though, if you're interested.

MissingMyHeels · 16/05/2008 10:59

That is lucky - there is a real lack of little baby stuff in Epsom, couldn't find a local course anywhere.

Let me know if you start baby yoga, would be interested in that.

soooo, scuse me for obsessing but gg's reflux thing is main bit of my life today...the first 2 doses of gaviscon yesterday were like a dream...gg attacked the breast and had proper long deep feeds then kicked and smiled and played and slept like a very happy baby. no squawking, no waking, no crying, clearly the pain was managed. Yeehaa!

Not so good this am - upchucked his main breakfast feed - but he may just have been over greedy. very unsettled and uncomfortable this am. shame, was looking forward to giving him that rare bath of his but now he is asleep at last. i don't mind unsettled, but i really really mind when he is obviously in pain.

i've got it in my head now that he feels bony. i don't like that, it's a bit demoralising, so am having to work hard to let my anxieties out and try and appreciate the good stuff...he is still growing with weight going on slowly (longer every week! a long slim baby like his brother now). And his pain and unsettledness and the care I have to give him are not on the same scale as some I've read about on here. And he is not often sick, so that;s a mercy. so glad its the weekend tomorrow, dp is very good at bolstering me about how healthy he looks and how well gg is managing about this problem. and my mum is coming, so ds1 will get some seriously good 1:1 time!

e14mum · 16/05/2008 11:33

mb- 2 steps forward, 1 step back! Or 1 step forward, 2 steps back as it feels sometimes!

turtle23 · 16/05/2008 13:11

MB-am off to dr to see if DS has silent reflux. Wish me luck. Is gaviscon the only answer?

turtle23 · 16/05/2008 13:12

MMH-The baby yoga is at this place and I will be looking to start when I sort out DS's wind/colic/reflux

MrsPhas3 · 16/05/2008 13:15

Merry - I think when we seen them constantly its harder to appreciate how they are filling out. Look back at some photos and I'm sure you'll see that he is. I've been lucky and not had to deal with reflux, I can imagine its very draining. Its one thing dealing with crying when you know its tiredness, but when you have to add knowledge of pain in aswell, it must be horrible.

Keep up the great work and as you say the weekend is nearly upon us.

merryberry · 16/05/2008 13:32

thank you for the encouragement ladies, it is draining, though i thank my lucky stars he is not more profoundly ill of course.

turtle, i think gavisco is the mildest treatment and should be tried first - then there is ranitidine and motilium i believe. how is your LO coping?

turtle23 · 16/05/2008 15:53

crying over here

turtle23 · 16/05/2008 20:17

done crying. LO just fed without screaming...aaaand relax.

turtle23 · 16/05/2008 21:25

have to share: these

merryberry · 16/05/2008 21:31

the 6 week one on the playmate is what we call 'zonkobabe' in our house. he is gorgeous turtle, just lovely!

there's a recentish photo of gg added yesterday at bottom of my profile

turtle23 · 16/05/2008 22:18

AHHHH MB he's gorgeous!! They both are!

fitnfortyone · 17/05/2008 22:32

MB and turtle, how bless are those photos! Blimey, if you'd told me this time last year that i'd find other people's baby photos cute i'd have laughed you out of town

sorry both of you having such probs with reflux, the crying is bad enough without the vomit to go with it and the LO being in such pain And MB, gg does not look boney!

MMH misread your post as a lack of baby "fluff" in Epsom, thought you were jealous of the blue fluffy hands

Another lazy mum here as far as baths are concerned, prob cos DH doesn't get involved so LO is lucky if he gets 2 a week. Try to give him at least 1 as he loves it in the water - just screams when i take him out to get him dry! We're starting swimming lessons on 3rd June with Water Babies when he'll be 11 and a bit weeks.

My dad has gone home now from his first visit since the birth, absolutely besotted with his grandson and showed a completely different side to him to the only one i've ever seen growing up. Mum is still here and resembling a panda as she gave us all a scare by falling as she came down the stairs Luckily it was the bottom step but we have a very hard floor in the hall so her head came out in a cartoon-effect lump the size of an egg and her eyes are purple/black where her glasses dug in and bruised her. I kind of freaked out a bit later that night as I realised they wouldn't be around much longer to see LO growing up given their age and health probs

On the plus side, we've had our quietest evening for weeks...cradle moved into nursery and LO sleeping soundly in there since 6ish this evening, one feeding break at 8pm, another due before midnight and no screaming! I think the peace and quiet is better for him than him trying to cope with the general noise and activity levels downstairs with us...of course, this may be jumping the gun a bit but touch wood he's going to have a good night's sleep.

Oh, and went to the baby show yesterday as had free tickets, spent far too much on unnecessary things (but the massage cushion has paid for itself already for relief on my dodgy pelvic ligaments) - and got a lovely photo of me and LO in the Prima baby model cover competition. Got to wait until 26th before the pic goes online and i harrass everyone into voting for me

MarchNowFebMum · 18/05/2008 08:45

GLORY TO GOD -- Sanam did her first official sleep through the night last night. Last feed at 9, then didn't hear from her til 5. She'll probably wake up 14 times tonight but that's OK, now I know you can do it. I did nothing to incite this by the way other than the early evening clusterfeeds. Am thinking she does what she wants whatever I do - also true for her gas issues, nothing I change/do makes a difference!

Cradle cap saga -- have got flakes under control (thanks to my obsessive flake picking a la merryberry) but is now smelling. Took her to GP secretly hoping it was infected so they would give me something. Nope, it just stinks and that's apparently normal. For those who will face this soon, get some Epaderm and Aqueos cream (for shampoo) on hand! Both available from Boots pharmacist.

So I was doing twice weekly baths but now have to shampoo every day to get cap/smell sorted. Babies in Canada are bathed every day as per dr's orders so it can't be that bad!). Sanam is 12 weeks and I am going to take her swimming soon. I was waiting for a bit of neck control (doesn't make sense, just makes me more confident about handling her in water) which she now has. I don't think any restrictions, just the issue about temperature. Am going to find some classes this week as well!

MNFM - There must be something in the water (or milk, even!). DS slept through last night as well! Grotty evening and would only sleep when cuddled which was a pain as we were having dinner with friends, but he fed at 11pm as usual and went down at 11.30 - and then didn't wake until 6.45!!!!

Of course, DH and I were both up in the night checking on him as it was deadly quiet and we only moved him into his nursery 2 nights ago so were a bit freaked out by the silence! We're knackered but he's in a really good mood so we're off to the swimming pool to see how he gets on

merryberry · 18/05/2008 10:00

hurray for sleep through! gg went until (DRUMROLL PLEASE) 0550 this am, a whole extra 30 precious, meaningful minutes for me. The difference for us was putting him down earlier. I think I've been keeping him up too late and he actually needs to go down at 1830, not 1930.

sorry to hear about your mum fn41, i had some of the same thoughts this w/e as mine is here. she is a household/childcare godsend (while simultaeneously driving me personally nuts as mums can do) but more than that oh god does ds1 love her or what? really, really loves her. i hope she is around for years to come.

e14mum · 18/05/2008 12:58

grrr... sorry to break last night's lucky streak...have been having 11-530 nights... but not last night! Woke up at horrible old 3:30 with baby gurgling in cot. Did she want to go back to sleep afterwards? Noooooo...

HolidaysQueen · 18/05/2008 15:06

MB - hurrah for GG!
e14 - I sympathise! DS had two 3am wake-ups the past 2 nights, and was up at 6am rather than his usual 8am as well so we had a rough 2 days before this blissful night. Maybe Hero is gearing up to a big sleep tonight like my DS did!

Swimming went really well today! DS looked a bit freaked out at first but didn't cry and by the end we even got a little smile He really screamed in the changing room after though... I took him to the caff for a feed while DH did his lengths, and he fed really well, then when we got home he went straight into his cot and has had a really good lunch time nap (2.5 hours - about to go and get him up)

A few thoughts for anyone wanting to swim:

  • have your and baby's towels ready by the side of the pool. DS went from happy to cold very very quickly so it was good that there was something to cuddle him in straight away, and it helped that i wasn't freezing as well
  • maybe take two towels for the baby. The changing rooms were really busy and i had to cuddle DS for 5 mins in a sodden towel while we waited for one to be free and i think he'd have been much calmer if there was a dry one to put him in once most of the water had been soaked up
  • it really helps having two of you there. I dried and changed baby while DH sorted out bags and handed stuff to me, and then DH cuddled and calmed screaming baby while I got dressed, and he was able to deal with bags and lockers while I just cuddled DS to keep him warm both before and after
  • the baby will only last about 10-15 mins in the pool before he/she gets too cold so be prepared for it to be a short visit!
  • we're going to get a Bodywarma wetsuit thing for him to keep him warm so that he can last longer and is not so cold when we get him out
merryberry · 19/05/2008 08:12

morning! how were your weekends? what are you up to this week? had a great weekend here with mum helping out, ds1 had a blast and me and dp got loads done, including being able to hold gg up as needed for reflux and take time with his meds. however today i've woken up to streaming toddler cold plus baby has just started sneezing and now i have too (possibly in sympathy!)

should have known it would be one of those days when i was tying hair coated in baby sick behind my head at 4am...have had to cancel my morning plans, ds1 can't go to school. yet i still have to get them to islington registrars after lunch to register our intention to marry.

let joy be unconfined . my big back ups are cake making this am, have a stack of sprinkles and icing colours to make any toddler giddy with glee and if totally neccessary will bundle them in a pram and hit the local argos up for plastic toys galore.

timmyinatizzy · 19/05/2008 13:21

There must be something in the water, or should that be milk? Luke has now slept for at least 8 hours for the last three nights. Now I don't want to put a jinx on it but I'm so happy. He is going down between 7 and 8 then waking between 3 and 4. This is a major break through for me as I now get the evening to spend with dh as the dsd's go to bed at 8 too!

Had a major stressy thing with the dsd's mum this weekend. She accidentally ordered £300 worth of stuff on our Littlewoods account at 11pm on Saturday night? Whats odd with that, is that she did it by phone, gave must of gave her name as Me, and dh's date of birth to be able to access the account. She then (I think) had an attack of the conscience and emailed dp to tell him that Littlewoods had emailed her but with his name in the email confirming the order????. However she has dressed it to say that someone is setting her up!!. Littlewoods say that they have not sent such an email to her, and that they believe that my dh has been a target of fraud. They cannot confirm who made the call only that they were female. So dh has asked dsd's mum to forward the email to him so he can help use it against whoever has done it. Now conveinently she cannot access her hotmail account as someone has messed about with it and can no longer get the email. Suspcious or what. I believe she has done it on purpose. She has a history of lying and uses various names to get credit in which house she is living in at the time! Have been persuading dh to go to the police about, as did Littlewoods. If it was anyone else he would of done. Lets hope he does ti this afternoon. Sorry about the rant needed to get it off my chest.

turtle23 · 19/05/2008 13:59

timmy-that's awful! Hope it all works out.
LO has a stinking cold and is not eating much. I am beside myself with worry even though I know he will be ok and start eating when he can breathe. And now I've started sneezing...

timmyinatizzy · 19/05/2008 14:14

Just had a phone call from dh. Out of interest he did a credit check on himself. Guess what he found. She had opened a Littlewoods accounts as Mrs dh with her current address! How silly is that. She has never been Mrs dh. She'd obviously forgot her frauduently acquired account number and phoned up and they had Littlewoods had used my dh's one instead! Dh is now definitley going to the police now.

c4it · 19/05/2008 14:58

Timmy - That's very scary!

Hope all with feeding difficulties are coping. Am so at all you getting longer sleeps - DS is still cluster feeding until at least 10.30 every night and then is up between 2 and 3am and 5am, yawn!

MB - hope your day gets better!

I was hoping to get a professional photo done at toddler group today, but someone pushed in my slot and by the time we got our turn DD had the screaming heebeejeebees and DS was starving and howling. Can't wait to see the results . Really annoying thing is the photographer is very good and I can't afford to have a proper photo done in a studio cos they are sooo expensive. Ended up in tears in the car park - must be hormonal right?
