Welcome March Mums (and late Feb/early April Mums!) from the March 2008 threads.

HQ - i wish dd2 only startted sleeping properly through the night when dd3 was born and she was nearly 2 must say thoough were getting lots more smiles, she does rarely smile and most nights she only wakes up once [smug emoticon]

were going to a rhyme time class tomorrow, no idea what they do other then im guessing it involves rhyme! will keep us out of trouble

i was wondering how much formula other peoples babies are taking, iz is only ff and has 6 oz every 3 hours during the day and then one feed (or two if im unlucky) over night. her weights going up over the line and 6 oz seems a lot for 7 weeks. i saw a baby today who was only 5 days old and was only 1oz lighter then iz at birth and it looked tiny, cant even remember her being that small they grow up so quick

e14mum · 12/05/2008 17:08

Hey HQ- thanks for thinking of us! Mix feeding is going ok, DD sometimes refuses to nurse, I had been warned that might happen, but I always offer it regardless. She put on 9oz last week! so it must all be agreeing with her. I'm ok too with mix feeding now, got into the swing of preparing feeds and feel that if she decided (by refusing the boob completely)to go fully ff, that's ok too. I am so glad it's all turned around for you and your DS, that's such great news!!

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 12/05/2008 17:32

e14mum- can't get through on that email, try me at [email protected]

merryberry · 12/05/2008 19:36

jealous of the mix feeding, gg refused the bottle yesterday, flat out, for the first time. he's been showing signs of it

mind you, my beloved dp hasn't been left with such a young baby for such a long time that he completely left changing a nappy out of the equation of sleep and feed and play...For 5 hours. after I'd had the baby out for 2 hours! Poor mite, I wouldn't eat in that state. All kudos to the Nature nappy that contained all I found on my return...

Not our parenting highpoint, but no lasting damage done.

fitnfortyone · 13/05/2008 12:06

i've just had the stinkiest poo filled nappy yet! How does something so small produce something so likely to put you off korma for the rest of your life?

FF - ed takes anything between 1oz and 50z at a time, and between 1hr and 41/2-5 hr stretches, so nothing consistent! Haven't had him weighed for a couple of weeks and missed yesterday's clinic as was collecting parents from airport.
My dad has now seen his grandson for the first time and turned into an unbelievable softy . I even caught him giving ed a sneaky kiss on the hand . My mum has just resigned herself to him showing affection to dogs and babies but not to her or anyone else in the family!
We were going to go to the beach today, but it'll be high tide by the time we get there which makes it a bit pointless. And we'd probably get blown away in the gale force wind that seems to have arrived overnight. So will either go later or make do with a picnic in the park by the boating lake instead.

Prisci · 13/05/2008 14:25

3Madboy, sorry did not get a chance until now. The Hotsling is great indeed, I like it as it is extremely easy to use, no fiddling around with miles of fabric etc and wonderful for breasfeeding and hiding LO when going to shop etc... as it makes it difficult for people to just try to touch him. Apart from the recommended site, I think you can also get them from Amazon.com.

HQ, I don't think there is a sling which let you carry your baby on the back due to the head support issue, maybe your DP can use a Baby Bjorn since they don't look feminine at all.

Otherwise, really feel for you guys, just had 2 days of bad weather, and thought I was going to go crazy at home, thus very please for you with the current UK weather, you all deserve it (I know it is something odd to say ).

MissingMyHeels · 13/05/2008 16:13

Meet up ladies - please read this and confirm attendance!

Tilly had her jabs this morning and apart from an initial big cry that didn't last too long has done very well, bless her. Now just nervously watching for any side effects, well, she is my pfb!! What do you expect!

MamaFormerlyKnownAsGlam · 13/05/2008 18:54

littleducks · 13/05/2008 21:37

oh god, have read this thread so many times and been too exhausted or had to turn off comp before i could post

ds had 6 week check today, all ok and he is 10lb 6ozs, have just had to put away newborn clothes as he is too big, he looks so cute in rompers though

weather cooler here, put ds in sleepsuit for first time in a few nights it had been so hot he had been in a vest

PurlyQueen · 13/05/2008 22:31

hi - is anyone's LOs sleeping through the night yet? Any tips?

merryberry · 14/05/2008 07:54

not mine pq. i'm lucky when he has one wake up only. and even luckier if he sleeps past 5.20am.

was thinking DARK tired thoughts about maggie thatcher when feeding and settling past reflux at 4 this am (gg finds my full night breasts too much to handle and is often reflexively sick at that feed). anyway she had 2 kids, right? i think that is why she was like 'sleep is for wimps' and could power thru on 4 hours a night. her kids trained her to. also why she believed there was no such thing as society...well, there isn't when you are alone with a baby at 4am, is there????

ramble over...day continues...sigh....

merryberry · 14/05/2008 07:56

ps, dp clearly feeling VERY sorry for me when i told him about maggie...both for thinking about her and being up so much...but it is better i do it, as he is hellish busy at work delivering this big project, and i love the way he still comes home and does 3-4 hours full on house/child/meal work.

wearehipsandmakers · 14/05/2008 09:31

PQ- DD not sleeping through yet- she seems to have settled into a routine of bottle at 7, 2 (!!!) and then 5. Contemplating dreamfeed at 10 to see if she would drop the 2oclock one but am scared to mess with her head. Yesterday DH went to pub at 7 and it was the first time I'd had to put her to bed on my own and she went down like a lamb. tucked up at 8.45 and not a peep.. So hoping it will last.
Does anyone else feel their DH has morphed into a different person? The man I married liked Sonic Youth and beer, the father of my children appears to be someone who can say to our DS, in all seriousness, 'you can put your sorry in a sack, mister'. I'm concerned.
For those of you who've had their first post-preg period, 'rivers of blood' is ok, right? I got so freaked on monday I phoned the out-of-hours doctors who told me not to be scared but it's still going. i'm more of a 'light to moderate' kind of gal normally.

turtle23 · 14/05/2008 09:59

Weare...my LO does the same and I have tried to feed him at 1030 to try and knock 2 am into a bit later and it didn't work. First, he was OUT FOR THE COUNT and wouldn't feed and then he woke up at 2 anyway. I, personally, am using this 6 hr stretch to catch up on sleep for a few days then am going to try to just make the other end a bit later. He never feeds much at 2 anyway. Last night he made it to 230! JOY!

2wasgood3isbetter · 14/05/2008 10:15

We're not sleeping through yet, but we do seem to have a bit of a pattern going.

DS feeds sometime between 6.30 and 7.30pm, is them awake (bit happy, bit grumpy) and goes down by 9.30 (sometimes as early as 8). I express during the day, and we wake him at 10.30 when he downs 6oz in one guzzly go. He then goes through to any time between 2.30 and 5am. Feeds for about 10 mins, and seems to settle himself back down within about 5 minutes with alot of arm swinging and leg kicking and peculiar squeaks. Then wakes at about 7. . I'm soooo glad he is only feeding once in the night now, I was beginning to really struggle with sitting up in bed feeding. I was finding I was sliding down, with unpleasant self-wedging happening on a regular basis.

We're going away this weekend, big family do. Really looking forward to it, and just hoping that ds continues with his reasonably decent sleeping regime.

Off for jabs in 50 minutes. I better spend that time finding the calpol (probably just to find out that the use by date is May 2006!).

Dreaming about Maggie T is a little disturbing - I hope she was fully dressed. Whenever people appear in my dreams they are nearly always naked - I'd rather not know what that means.

turtle23 · 14/05/2008 10:16

Haven't had first period yet, but am 99%sure that I am ovulating today(spent a long time trying to get pregnant, so am overly aware) and had the terrifying thought that if I let DH near me we may be giving birth again in 9 months. Needless to say I kept up the pretense that my stitches haven't healed yet. Is evryone but me happily having sex again? I can't face it yet. Then again, large episiotomy will do that, I s'pose.

merryberry · 14/05/2008 10:23

please someone pick me off the floor where i am now wimpering in the foetal position, trying to cope with image of naked maggie t

HolidaysQueen · 14/05/2008 10:41

DS's night goes something like this: bath and breastfeed then down at about 8pm - this is the bit most likely to go pear-shaped with him sometimes awake again at 9 or 10 - then we wake him fully for nappy change and formula at 11pm. He then goes down pretty well and wakes once for a feed in the night somewhere between 4 and 5 and then sleeps until about 8am. I finally managed to master feeding lying down 2 nights ago which is so much better for the middle of the night!

He went from 11 until 6 once when he was 3.5 weeks old, and i thought i might have a dream baby, but the latest he's gone since then is 5.30 once. A 4 week old in my NCT group sleeps 12-7 every night and has done since she was 1 week old

Turtle - we started having sex again a week or so ago. I think I would find it harder if we waited longer so I'm glad we started again then, but I'm a little sore (probably due to me feeling a bit tense as much as anything) so it's hardly the best or most frequent sex of my life. Still it is nice to be slowly getting back into the groove and to feel like more than just a mum

LookingForwardToSummer · 14/05/2008 11:15

turtle - no hanky panky here either! my episiotomy (sp) is putting me off too- don't know why because it doesn't really hurt. more of a problem is that by the time dd finishes bed time feed it's 11.30 and dh is asleep!

anyone done a long car trip yet? i'm off to visit my parents in a week - 5 hour drive at the best of times. i'm quite nervous about it -any advice?

spugs · 14/05/2008 11:37

turtle - non here but i dont have an episiotomy as an excuse just cant be bothered, plus find the prospect of becoming accidently pregnant slightly terrifying i havet had a period yet been very crampy for the last couple of weeks and heavier discharge but nothing, think it'll be an absolute bugger when it comes!!
izzy only wakes up once during the night, she generally has a feed about 8/9pm goes to sleep, wakes for a feed at 2/3am then back to sleep till 7am ish. im still keeping her downstairs with us in her moses basket till we go to bed but i think im going to start putting her to bed upstairs at 8/9pm as shes starting to fill her basket

looking forward - i did a 2 1/2 hr trip when izzy was 2 weeks old and it was fine. the car seat knocks her out just have plenty of stops and get lo out the seat so she can have a stretch

MrsPhas3 · 14/05/2008 12:11

Name change alert - used to be 2wasgood3isbetter (i still think that but got fed up of typing it all in!). I've included some photos too.

Merry - will be interesting to hear if you have dreams of a naked Maggie tonight!!

We've not managed any action yet either. No stitches for me, and have felt fine for weeks and weeks (went on a see saw in the park after 10 days!) so no excuse really. But DS doesn't settle until 11pm ish and we are just tooooo knackered. Hopefully soon though - it's been a long long time.

MissingMyHeels · 14/05/2008 12:48

DD sleeps from 10/11pm through to about 7am - would be nice to have an evening but very happy with that for the time being! She has to be awake sometyime!

On Monday night she did 9pm to 6am which would be my preference but think that was just a one off. However, she does this all by herself, we have done nothing to impact it at all - she is the boss around here!!

She had her immunisations yesterday and has been very sleepy since, only 2 bottles in 24hrs and refused my breast. Hoping she'll be hungry again soon - although not too soon as my stupid decorator boiled the kettle I had cooling for her next feed

As for sex, I first did it after a couple of weeks and we've resumed our normal sex life pretty much - I think this is mainly due to the fact she is sleeping well at the moment (aware it can all change!!).

First period was very grim. The thought of having a baby in another 9 months is horrific. I am working from home today as my mat cover got the sack! It's lots of fun talking to adults about real world stuff

Did a 2hour car journey and she slept all the way - we planned it so we left straight after a feed, are you bfing? If so, could be more problematic.

turtle23 · 14/05/2008 13:41

Did a 4 hr journey last week and LO was fine. We did stop once to take a break, but we left when it was time for his sleep so I guess that's cheating!
