Elkie _ I earnt enough for mine - still had to justify it Of course now dh raves about it - and it is pretty fab actually.

NorthernLurker · 28/02/2008 20:46

which is her real name? Or neither?

Sexonlegs · 28/02/2008 20:47

NL, what's her new book then??
Elkie, I haven't been able to find any of the books under Madeleine Wickham.

NorthernLurker · 28/02/2008 20:50

I think it's called 'remember me' - I read the back in whsmiths - basically a woman has an accident and wakes up to find she is married etc etc with hilarious consequences of course It's half price so I might treat myself at the weekend. If I do - anyone want to borrow it?

elkiedee · 28/02/2008 21:10

I believe MW is her real name or the one she wrote under first. But according to wikipedia the last of her books as MW was published in 2001, so I suspect that the SK name, Shopaholic or no, sells a lot more copies.

I've gone back to crime fiction at the moment, but still have a stash of chicklit when the fancy takes me. Lots of chicklit writers seem to have taken up motherhoood as a theme recently - others include Rowan Coleman, The Accidental Mother and The Baby Group, and one by Freya North that I can't remember the title of but it features 3 sisters who each appeared in earlier books. Another I found very funny years ago was Marian Keyes' first book, Watermelon.

StealthPolarBear · 28/02/2008 21:23

yes it's the maxi cosi priorifix (the one you linked to is the non isofix one)
Thanks for looking weeonion
GMM, it was really kind of you to offer to send it to me but I don't think it will be worth it for the saving - I sent a smallish box of books to an MNer recently by courier and that was £8, I think this would be 3x the size (all boxed up) and at least 3 times the weight. Plus add in the hassle, you waiting in all day for a courier...I think it would probably be as easy for me to order it online.
NL - wow to all the house stuff happening! I hope you still get your dream house, if not, you will be the cash buyer!
Dippy, what is your new job? When do you start (I know you said you officially start today, but when do you really start?)
oooggs, thanks for asking about sleeping, last night seemed a bit better, he's had a huge nap today (normaly indicates he's back to normal) so fingers crossed for tonight! Hope your 3 sleep through again, although I am a bit that a mum of 3 is getting more sleep than me!!

StealthPolarBear · 28/02/2008 21:24

That's assuming of course that they are all the same price...weeonion, you didn't happen to notice how much the all black one was, did you? Also, what was 'pengiun'-y about the penguin one?

NorthernLurker · 28/02/2008 21:25

that's twoleftfeet though - aren't they really bad at customer service etc? Glasgow Pram Centre gets a much better rep - and you can go whenever you like and it's not fair! (NL realises she is regressing again and slaps self)

Ow!

Elkie - if you like crime fiction have you read any of the Falco books by Lindsay Davis?

DH home so got to go - back tomorrow

StealthPolarBear · 28/02/2008 21:25

are the strap holders meant to look like eyes? I could draw a better penguin when I was 3!

Sexonlegs · 28/02/2008 21:28

Night NL.

Dh watching Ashes to Ashes. Should be doing ironing - but I can't be arsed. Enjoying a tea and a flake instead

elkiedee · 28/02/2008 21:39

NL, read the first Falco book and liked it, have several of the others but I had years, no, decades, worth of reading to catch up on even before my reading slowed down dramatically - as soon as I got pregnant and before D was born.

elkiedee · 28/02/2008 21:39

Guess I've missed you but goodnight NL>

CaptainDippy · 28/02/2008 22:02

Night NL - I'd love to borrow the book when you are finished if that is ok!!?

Back again, friend drop round for a cuppa and a natter, need to do washing up still ..... yawn!!

StealthPolarBear · 28/02/2008 22:03

night everyone

elkiedee · 28/02/2008 22:11

Night SPB.

D went to sleep fast but has been v restless, he woke up and I was about to take him out in the buggy to resettle him and while waiting for dp. Put him down while I went to bathroom, dp arrived home, I went back to pick up D and he was asleep again. Wow. Not sure how long it will last but at least dp will take over if he does wake again.

CaptainDippy · 28/02/2008 22:20

Hope it lasts all night, Elkie!!

Still need to do washing up!!

Octothechildherder · 28/02/2008 22:21

Back again as heard there was baby news! Congrats Hensden - FAB! Hope feel better soonish.

Happy Birthday to AngeG

NL - all the plebs/chavs hang out in mothercare here and all the yummy mummy's go to the theatre cafe or jojo maman bebe/ blooming marv/ eric snooks (££££ baby shop) - there is a definite divide between those that shop in the bottom part of Bath and those that venture past the Body Shop . You also need certain attire to fit in - a bugaboo won't do here - its much more exclusive . My sister said I should get some ugg boots and I said NOOOOOOOO - all the teenagers wear them here (Bath) and she said all the posh cheshire mums wear them up in Manchester. Says alot!!! I think a well tied scarf and boden coat go a long way here! LOL TIP btw

Soooooo, busy weekend ahead at Baby Show - will catch up next week with any fab new buys!

Octothechildherder · 28/02/2008 22:23

and the uncontrolled screaming approach has worked

weeonion · 28/02/2008 22:47

spb - i am heading back there (the pram centre on saturday. it is 5 mins drive from my house. Sorry NL!!!!) and will have a look. getting C's new one then

can i ask if anyone else's child has turned into a banshee?? C has developed a bone jarring habit of shrieking nad shreeching when we are out. does tend to be once ive settled us in a coffee shop and ordered my mummy treats. honestly - it is SO loud. today i had to leave my fav place as she woudl not be pacified.
is this usual or have i got a changling??

elkiedee · 28/02/2008 22:54

Better not bring D to visit Bath then, he'd be marked down as a chav baby as he still has a lot of Mothercare clothes, though mostly vests and babygros. Here, even the middle class mums are quite happy to buy clothes in Tesco and Sainsbury - but we don't have much money left given house prices, and once we go back to work, childcare costs. I'm going on a raid across the border to Crouch End to the NCT nearly new sale on Saturday though!

CaptainDippy · 28/02/2008 23:16

Ooooh, but Elkie don't you know ... it is soooo Yummy Mummy to "slum it" & buy from Tesco and Sainsbury!!?

Good to "see" you Octo - glad the USA worked!!

WO - P doesn't do the screeching thing, but DD2 used to it - it was genuinely ear-spliting ..... I had to leave shop because I was worried the windows were going to shatter!!

Anyway, off to bed now washing up etc is finally done .... now I know what I need DH around for .....

elkiedee · 28/02/2008 23:20

Sainsbury has some very cute clothes, although I wish they wouldn't sell tshirts with completetely wrong apostrophes on! Goodnight CD.

Eddas · 28/02/2008 23:23

evening ladies

Not been on earlier tonight as i've been............

Talking to DH

elkiedee · 28/02/2008 23:40

Hi Eddas, I take it that was a nice surprise?
