I will have the chav kid at swimming on monday- boys new swimshorts are white with a union flag on one leg! how naf is that. However they were VERY cheap. And will be fine for worls uni championships in summer Actully I might take him swimming in his smallest cycle shorts instead!
HAdn't really thought about it, but yes, Exeter DOES have LOTS of swimming pools- besides the 3 proper public ones there are a few school pools and several private members club ones & two of the bigger parks have decent paddling pools in summer. While Topsham ( just outside city) has a lido. Unsurprisingly out of 20 mums at M&Ts 2 are swim teachers.
Has it stopped raining yet?
Top tip for the tractor obsessed- tractor Ted stuff is BOGOF at www.tractorland.co.uk this weekend.
I'm working on saturday! hurrah, the in laws arrive tomorrow night for the weekend.

Astrophe · 30/05/2008 13:09

I will add the campsite to my list Caddy

Hi everyone...just dashing past as have a mate and her son coming for lunch, and must ring the shipping co.
xxx

Frizbe · 30/05/2008 20:09

Hi Folkes dashing here too at Swim shorts Uni, you do have quite a few pools for a small city good thing though . our town has just the one but it is only small and its walking distance, hurrah

Off to Majorca on Sun am (last check in 5am ugh) so will be gone till Thur, (arrive back middle of the night on Wed, fun with kids ) So should be good hopefully, although rain forcast for Sun....fingers x'd for Sun, so we can have pool fun for rest of time

Have fun what ever your doing, if I'm not back on again!

laundrylover · 30/05/2008 23:13

Oooh Majorca - we are going to the outlaws caravan in Lancaster.

My sis had her baby yesterday - a boy called Isaac by emergency section at 6pm - took us all by surprise I can tell you as she only went in to be induced at 4pm!!! She phoned me at about 8.30 and I thought she was phoning to say she'd been sent home!

Friz and Astro I've emailled you some pics of him at less than a day old....but, here's the big news....I didn't feel even a pang of broodiness!!!!

OP posts:
UniS · 31/05/2008 11:05

well done LL. good step not feeling broody- you are not a hen.
ARGGGGGGGGH
in laws have invded. HELP. They are quiet nuts.

Astrophe · 31/05/2008 21:40

LL - he is SOOOO beautiful. Looks like Tilly I think! And your sis looks like you! Never mind you not being broody...just the hotos were enough to set me off! TTC no.3 will begin in November (don't want to be puking during campervan holiday...nasty!)

Friz - have a great time!
Uni - hope you survive the inlaws!

Went bra shopping today...alone! What bliss! bought 3

UniS · 02/06/2008 23:15

THat should have read Quite Nuts. howver they are gone home again so I can stop biting my tonugue and holding onto my opinions.
Boy liked swimming today- hurrah. have signed him up for the rest of term one half hour session a week at coldish pool at end of our road. His babay wet suit still fits now hes not in a bulky swim nappy.

laundrylover · 05/06/2008 10:22

Hi there,

well, we are back from our hellish holiday! Apart from a few rare hours of fun it was awful! The girls whinged and DP and I shouted in return. Ah well. We got told off for letting them play naked in water park, letting them run around a restaurant and letting them run in a park!!!!

To end it all they couldn't go to see the new baby because of the pox worry so Tilly was really upset.

On a brighter note my sis is doing fab, feeding is easy and the baby is growing. My other sis on the other hand has had to move out of her house at 36 weeks with a home birth booked as the septic tank has broken and there is a big back log. Makes me feel like I shoudln't complain so will go and peg out some washing.

OP posts:
Cadmum · 05/06/2008 10:47

Uni: How did it go with the ils? I am an expert in Quite Nuts so you have my sympathy!

LL: Sorry that the trip was a nightmare.

Friz? How busy are you keeping?

Astro: Glad that you have added the camp site to your list. How are the plans coming?

I have been up with dd2 since 4:20 this morning... She has a temp and is miserable. On anti-bs from dentist so hopefully she will turn a corner.

Saw another dentist with her yesterday. She is too young. Our file will be forwarded to the anesthesiologist but the dentist expects her to say that dd2 is too young.

I have 3 weeks in Canada this summer and I am tempted to investigate having it done there...

laundrylover · 05/06/2008 14:50

Caddy, what exacty does she need doing that they say she is too young for?? Do you think they'd do it in Canada?

OP posts:
Cadmum · 05/06/2008 16:25

LL: To begin with she had one cavity. It was small and the dentist urged us to take a wait and see approach but expressed concern about the enamel on her teeth. She said not to be overly surprised if DD2 developed more carries. She now has several cavities and because she is only 26 months, the concern is that she will not sit still for the work to be carried out. The first dentist we saw here suggested that if the first one had been filled when it was small that we could potentially have avoid the whole mess. (In Austria, the dentist does not fill teeth until the child is 2.) It would appear that the age the dentists here are comfortable with filling teeth is 4. If it needs to be done under GA then it could be younger but until recently, her teeth were not bad enough to warrant this. Now she has developed an infection and is on anti'bs for the second time (having only EVER been on them for this dental issue).

She is now at risk of losing two of her teeth. I know that they are only her baby teeth and that compared to what countless families deal with vis-a-vis real health issues that this is small peanuts but I really just want a solution that does not cause her further distress and cost 150 CHF every few weeks for the privilege. I am in no way suggestion that I would rather risk her health with GA in order to have attractive teeth but I do worry that this is starting to affect her general heath as well.

Basically, I already feel like a crap mother for letting it go on like this but I really, genuinely don't know what options I have.

As far as options in Canada... My SIL has 4 children with a similar 'condition' and all have had repairs done under GA. The youngest was 19 months and the oldest was 3 1/2. It is difficult to make comparisons at this stage as all children are different and our niece who was only 19 months at the time of her first dental op is now 11 and has little enamel on her adult teeth as well. I hope and pray that this is not the case for our dd2.

Sorry for the rant... Are you sorry you asked?

UniS · 05/06/2008 16:53

CAddy- Go see a canadian dentist when your there, get teh appt prebooked for you by who ever your visting. At least you will get a second opion in your first language in a system you trust.

Astrophe · 06/06/2008 00:39

So sorry you had a crap time LL How is Tilly now?

Caddy, sorry for DD, and that you are feeling down about it all. I'd def talk to somone in Canada about it.

I am up at this crazy hour baking pink heart shaped cakes for DD's 4th birthday tomorrow! She has been incredibly excited! Today we painted a paper mache pinata we have been working on...I thought she was about to go into orbit! We have got her a scooter - a pink Mini Micro one, to go with the blue one we have, so they can each take one on holidays.

DD is at nursery tomorrow am, then DH has the afternoon off, and we are going up to Sheffield for lunch with DD's Godmother who happens to be there this weekend.

I have booked the shipping company! Went with Britania...they seem good. Such a relief!

DD had a hearing test...has fluid in ears and may need grommits when we get back to aus - its sort of a relief, as her hearing has ben quite bad, but I have not been sure if its just her ignoring me, or actual deafness (bit of both it seems!)

DS (better mention him seeing as it is his thread!) and I spent a happy day in the veg garden - transplanting pea seedlings, weeding the carrots and planting radishes. His language is leaping on, and he is very pleasant company at the moment...just loves to potter, and help Mummy

Thats me done!

laundrylover · 06/06/2008 12:42

Happy Birthday to the big 4 year old.

Caddy, I agree with what Uni says. Also please don't beat yourself up about this, it's just one of those things and the delays have not been down to you at all. Let's hope her second teeth have better enamel eh?

Well, I've just sat down to work as my bro visited last night and his car broke down! I ran them back to my parents and then got our mechanic to fix the problem this morning...feel blighted at the mo as am unable to get my teeth into any work. Mind you, yesterday I did do gardening instead and now I'm on here. Kids back to school and routine next week and I'm off to London which always get my head in gear.

Tilly is much better now and I reckon Kiah is over the pox if she ever had it. Off to see the new babe tomorrow and have been cuddling my 5 month nephew yesterday too -he is really alert and wriggly but doesn't sleep much. My girls slept til 8am this morning.

Friz, what you up to this week?

Uni and Astro - think you are way ahead with your veggies - I have courgette, butternut, toms and peas ready to plant out but want to do it with the girls tomorrow. My pots are coming up and a cople of jerusalem artichokes too. Chillies and peppers still teeny in back porch....

OP posts:
Astrophe · 06/06/2008 19:22

Careful with those jerusalem artichokes...we had loads in our veg box...very gassy household for a few days . You ves gound great - we rushed ours in little green houses in spring, as our time is limited. Thats also why we planted the radishes...heavens knows what we will do with them.

DD had a good day, loved all her presents, but especially the tacky blue plastic rabit out of a Kinder surprise DH bought her! Tis her most favourite she says!

Lovely lunch with our friends from Sydney today (currently living in Paris, but in Sheffield thi weekend) - although feeling really shaken and devestated by the news that they are probably moving to Sheffield in Sept. They were meant to be returing to Sydney, and I guess I was really counting on them being there The irony of them moving 40 mins up the road from where we are now is too much. I am feeling really bad about moving now...want to stay.

Glad to hear your lot are recovered now LL.

UniS · 06/06/2008 21:46

Our veg isn;t very much this year. mostly fruit. Have started picking raspberries- hurrah. rocket is in greenhouse, all other seeds planted this year failed.

That sounds like a very PINK birthday you have had to endure.

Had mad baking day yesterday for cricket tea on sunday, scones, littlecakes ( boy helped decorate tham today ) and a big cake in addition to the regular loaf of bread for family use. I' not doing 4 more loaves for cricket- they can have supermarket sliced as usual.

Boy has poorly foot, got a splinter in toe and it went septic. nurse lanced it today and applied HUGE bandage. hes being rubish and pathetic if he can see the bandage, but fine if he has shoes on. put to bed with socks on to stop him complainig about his "big toe".

I give notice of termination of agency agreement to est agents tomorrow. then we appoint new agents to take over in two weeks. House we like is still on teh market.

Cadmum · 07/06/2008 07:54

Thanks for your kind words...DH agrees that it is pointless to dwell on the reasons when we need to focus on a solution. I am just and that there is no progress in that direction.

DD2 has been up 3 nights in a row with a temp hovering around 38.7. I don't even know if it is connected to the infection in her mouth. I am wondering if she needs to be seen but now it is Saturday...

Does anybody have a crystal ball I could borrow?

Astro: I am so sorry about your friends moving closer. It seems an exquisite form of torture. Boy this Expat life is tricky!!

Our veg is like yours Uni. The cats played a major role in garden destruction. They thought that it was an outdoor litter box so they kicked up all of the new lettuce and carrots. There is always next year (if I can figure out how to keep them out).

I am glad that you are going to give a new agent a go with the house and that the other is still available.

I keep forgetting to mention that I did make an appt to see the breast specialist. I went on Tuesday and the Dr was not there! His receptionist had forgotten to contact me! I rescheduled for the following afternoon and then had to postpone when DD2 appt came through at the dental hospital. All this to say that I go this Wednesday at 1:00.

laundrylover · 07/06/2008 09:14

Oh Astro, that's a blow about your friends eh?? Never mind, you'll just have to stay another year and have DC3 here instead....much better for us.
Uni, ouch for the splinter. Tilly has had two this week (not septic thank goodness) as she has taken to being a barefoot hippy chick! She has also decided to be called Matilda but we are not very good at remembering this. You are very good to do all the cricket stuff - a much more dedicated wifey then me!!!

Caddy, poor DD and her temp....you have my huge sympathies as she must be awful to be around right now. Have you got some good distractions planned for today? Let us know how you get on on Weds....

We are meeting friends in Burnley to go to a great permaculture place there and we were then doing a sculpture trail but my frined has hurt her back at EuroDisney so walk may be off. My neighbour passed on a whole plastic track and village to the girls and Tilly is a very happy girly!!

Have just been checking up on Steve and OJ and am thinking about them all on the girls birthday. We have a lot to be thankful really eh?

UniS · 08/06/2008 21:40

I suspect i have the only two year old in Exeter who ASKS to watch unicycle hockey videos his new favourite after weeks of Dig And Dug or tractor ted. Mind you he may well be teh only two year old in exter who's parents have any unicycle hockey videos.

Just spent the afternoon at cricket club, boy was on teh go afternoon with a running commentry on what he was doing- so lots of" bat hit ball, daddy hit ball, me kick ball, hello , bat hit ball, me in nets bit more. bye bye."

I've just entered a 10km run! next weekend. eeek. DH is doing an overnight cycle century the same day. erk- busy weekend.

Astrophe · 11/06/2008 09:26

Caddy - good for you for booking that appointment. Let us know how you go. How is DD now? Antibiotics helping?

LL - hows the work going?

Uni - you think our party sounded pink, you aint seen nuthin'! We have limited pink in this household. DD likes pink and purple, fine, but we don't activly encourage love of pink/princesses/fairies...DD's best friends also age 4 owns practicly nothing without a pink disney princess or fairy on it..pants, bag, clothing, you name it

Glad you had a nice weekend Uni, and that you've given your agent the boot.

Nothing much going on here today...hanging 'round the house with lots of 'should do' jobs, but no 'must do'...might go to Country park for a walk this arvo.

UniS · 11/06/2008 22:14

Agent booted. they then had teh check to send us a letter confirming the end of agrement with teh wrong end date. Dh livid on reading this and as home early phoned them to rant. apology issued letter witll be re-sent!

PINK- what is it with pink. and princesses! my cousins girl is besotted too and has daddy wrapped around little finger so has a pink princess bedroom. Boy didn't care- he was happy to play on her rocking horse.

Very sweaty hot boy today- managed to kep him indoors in not many clothes this arvo eating ice lollys. his mood improved somewhat. Have his friend K to play tomorrow, then new agent coming round at 6pm. MAd tidy up at 5 I think.

Enjoyteh weather while it lasts.

Astrophe · 11/06/2008 23:32

There have been many threads on MN about 'pink' and princeses etc. "The colusions of marketers and mothers in the princessification of little girls" was a phrase that stood out (I don't mind the odd princess story, but really dont like the simpering disney type ones, and the way people encourage little girls to want nothing but princessy things...there is so much more to life! 'Boy' toys tend to be far more interesting, useful, fun and educational I think).

er...sorry...little soap box moment!

I hope your new agent is the business Uni.
x

Frizbe · 12/06/2008 22:48

Hello am back! and have finally found time to sit down and read what's been going on and post.

Uni, well done on getting rid of agent, go, go go girl for the run

LL at your sis's ds, he's lovely and hope your other sis is doing ok?
How did your friend hurt her back at Euro D? lol at Matilda, am debating whether to worry about dd1 today, she's requested a book of flags from the library (Geek alert) as she want's to learn the different ones....

Astro {{{Hugs}}} re your friends possible move to Sheffield, it just means you'll have to pop back here for the mumsnet meet up instead of us all treking to Singapore and you can catch up with your buddy too? Glad you've got shipping sorted out can't believe your still broody I think I'm well over things, although dd1 isn't and keeps requesting a baby, as she never got to enjoy dd2 and baby her properly (lets bear in mind here, that dd1 has been really horrible to dd2 some times this week, unprovoked and pushing boundaries galore...not been fun)

Caddy give dd2 a big {{{Hug}}}} from us and agree with Uni, go to dentist when you get home in that 3 weeks for a proper opini.on.

So, we've been rather busy.
Made it through 3 nights and 4 days in Mallorca, was v wet when we arrived, but it pulled it round during the afternoon and was good weather for rest of our time there.
Spent it mainly between pool, which was freezing (dd2 refused to get in, and exclaimed how warm it was yest at swimming ) beach and sea, which was nice, bar the one time we went to a different beach and a stuffing jelly fish, got through the nets, and stung dd1 , so I ended up in the chemist, waving dd1's inflating knee at the chemist, not knowing the Spanish for Jellyfish we got cream that did the trick, phew. The kids liked the hotel, as it had a kids disco, so it was fun to see them both doing a conga after a person in a panda suit and dancing to all the usual dodgy kids clubs songs. The low point was the flight back, 2 hrs of dd2 sitting next to me, on a night flight, saying constantly the following, Dr Who, Monsters, Buzzy Bees, on total repeat....this was brought on by dh letting her watch it the previous week, and then her spotting Dr Who in the inflight magazine
Since we got back, I got a whole day at home (read work) before I got shipped to Wales, minus kids, to run the LARP event for the weekend, which thankfully the ref's had well under control So I did vague organising and hit lots of people then came back to house, that dh had ignored for the weekend, whilst he ran shop and marshalled 3 kids. I'd just gotten the downstairs straight by end of yest. The driveway just got finished tonight, then I've gone into kitchen a few mins ago, to find bizzarely the mixer tap, has split down the back and is shooting jets of water out of the back of it, when I turn the tap on, and merely trickling water out of it, when its not This house will soon have been totally replaced

UniS · 13/06/2008 08:13

Yo friz- nice to have you back;
bum about that tap. dodgy weld? Hurrah for good refs so you can get on with some serious walloping huh.

testing boundries- oh yes, having a testing time here, this week boy is testing how hard and where you can touch people before you get into trouble for hitting.

Frizbe · 13/06/2008 21:18

Ouch for that then Uni, I take it your the one mainly getting a pasting?

The tap weld does indeed appear to be dodgy, but its also split weirdly too? its a horrible white sink and tap anyway (who the hell thought of putting those in eh?) so will get a nice new stainless one to replace it eventually anyway, leak not massivly bad, phew, still a pita tho.

dd1 has won £50 on her premium bonds today how fab is that for her bank balance (have told her she must save it for college )

Oh btw HELP! how the hell do I cook a Jeruslem Artichoke?? ones arrived in the veg box and I haven't a clue
