oh bollocks. Just driven to Canterbury and back without actually getting where I wanted to go. Was supposed to go to a reclamation yard to pick up a door for DS's new room, but got hopelessly lost and with 2 DC's in the car gave it up as a bad job and came home.. waste of a bloody morning.

DD went through again last night and fed from both boobs this morning, and then didn't want any breakfast. Never seen her eat so fast at lunchtime though!! oh yes - the day after our meet up, she sprouted a tooth, and then another the next day!!

I realised I am due back at work on the 29th April aaaaaaaahahhhhhahahahahahhaahah. Have no nusery place yet, so this could be interesting.

GillL · 05/03/2008 13:45

I was quite refreshed when I woke up this morning, even though it was only 5:15 (dd woke up crying). Ds slept through without waking once for the first time in ages.

I'm starting to think my baby is going to be a big boy. I've bought some 9-12 months pjs from mumsnet for sale. I thought they must just come up big cos I have to turn the sleeves up about 3 inches. For some reason I looked at the label last night and it says 12-18 months. They're only about an inch or so too long in the leg! I think he's had a growth spurt in the last couple of weeks cos I've had to put quite a few of his tops and trousers away as they're too small.

lol on the wardrobe malfunction James.

Hi sagpuss - glad to hear your dd is letting you sleep. She must have been hungry this morning to have both!

Ds still has no teeth. I posted a while ago saying that one was just cutting through but there's no sign of it now so I think I must have just felt a rough bit of gum. I bet they'll all come through at once.

I've got to sort dd out with a dentist. She's nearly 3 so I really should take her soon. I'm not taking her to my dentist cos it's private and they charge £35 for kids check ups My sister lives down the road from me and her dentist argued about taking her dd even though the rest of the family goes there. So I reckon I'm going to have a fight on my hands to find an nhs dentist near me who will take her. I must do some investigation to find out what our rights are.

tasha22 · 05/03/2008 14:08

gill-i brought ds1 the other week for the first time and he completely freaked when the chair moved but was quite happy to show off his sparkly white teeth sitting on my knee. dont know how they were ok considering the amount of sweets he eats.

shrinking-poor you. sounds a complete nightmare.

fig rolls have replaced rusks and are going down a treat

My2Weegirls · 05/03/2008 14:31

lurking today.

gill - contact your health authority and ask for them to tell you which dentist is taking on nhs patients or get them to allocate one to you.

My2Weegirls · 05/03/2008 14:33

sorry, i typed a big message and somehow managed to delete the start of it, that should have read that i've been lurking today.

helibee · 05/03/2008 14:38

gill-every child under 16 has the right to be seen by an nhs dentist with no arguments by them the reality seems to be somewhat different!

the washing is nearly up to date but only half is folded and only dh's shirts get ironed so he does them

tasha, have a great time, you deserve a break x

btw what size nappies are your lo's in?

Callum was a constipated last night so i've upped his water and reduced his food for today, hopefully that'll do the trick and then back to normal tomorrow.

Oh bum, just typed a message which disappeared into the ether.

In brief it said ta for the messages about dh. He's home and fine now. His heart is ok. They blamed it all on him suddenly stopping his ad's a couple of weeks ago. Eventually he should be ok, just has to take it easy for a while. Also exlains why he's been a complete arsehole to me lately as well.

James, that would have been sooooo hillarious embarrassing if you'd been wearing a skirt instead of trousers.

Gill, are we in the same town, I think we might be. If so the dentist on the Tonbridge Rd next to Clare Park is currently taking new NHS patients. We registered a few months ago. Ds1&2 were free check ups (and treatment for ds1), I'm free too with maternity exemption. The dentist even recommended I get a new gum shield made up while I don't have to pay (I'm a grinder). Dh paid about £30 (I think) for a check up and filling. It's not the most salluberous (?sp) of dental surgeries and the staff are young with a high turnover, but so far I've been quite happy. Started going there because my last one suddenly became private and wanted to charge us £25 a month for 4 of us. And all that would have got us is 2 checkups a year and 50% off private treatment costs. Shocking.

shrinkingsagpuss · 05/03/2008 16:09

kinki, My ds goes to the nursery next door - so you and I are very close!

kinki · 05/03/2008 16:16

Nooooo, my ds1 went there for several years too! From 2000 till 2004. Small world! Two friends of mine have their los there now too. I used to live backing onto the park, but down the bottom end.

GillL · 05/03/2008 16:17

Thanks for the advice my2weegirls.

Kinki I live in Northfleet near Gravesend. I never bothered getting my maternity exemption card. I get free prescriptions for life anyway because I have an underactive thyroid. I know it covers dental treatment but I trust my dentist and don't really want to switch just for 18 months (or whatever it is).

helibee - ds is in size 5 nappies.

shrinkingsagpuss · 05/03/2008 16:37

I'm a bit nearer town, DS has been there since 2005, so we don't overlap. What school do yuor DC's go to? I'm just about to start thinking about looking a tschools - DS starts in sept 2009 - the quicker the better!

someone asked how much milk the LO's are having? Well, hard to say, but DD currently has 3 feeds plus another of she wakes at night, but now I'm more confident she can go through, I don't think I'll feed her at night if she wakes. She has a 7am feed, then breakfast at 8 if she feels like it (ha ha), some juice mid morning, lunch at as near 12 as I can get her to wait, then milk at 2.30 tea at 5, then 6 oz ff at 6.30 followed by a b/f nearer 7. No idea how much she drinks in a bf but I reckon its about 4 oz maybe 6 if she hangs on for the full 5 minutes (ha ha ha)

DD is nearly into 9-12 months clothes (mostly to fit over her fat cloth nappy bottom) and size 4 nappies. I'm currently selling her 0-6 month stuff on ebay (hopefully it'll go better than the last lot I sold) and have just cleaned the tiny travel cot ready to sell too.

kinki · 05/03/2008 17:19

Gill, sorry about that, I'm useless with the fine details. For some reason I thought you were M/S.

Shrinking, ds1 goes to barmin sch. Probably wrong direction for you though. I'm always hearing things about brunswick. Also both in allington are good, as is st francis. One to avoid is st michael's apparently. That would have been our closest one if we hadn't moved. Have friends who are happy with westborough too. Ds2 will also be starting sept 09. I bet your ds hangs out with my mate's ds, they'll be the same age.

kinki · 05/03/2008 17:33

'ere, 'ang on a minute. Talking about my mate's ds: He had his 3rd birthday party at his house and a couple of his friends from nursery came. Including a little boy with his mum and newborn sister in a carrier. 'Twas a jungle party. That wasn't you was it? Nah the world can't be that small, can it? If by some freaky chance that was you, I was the stressed out one with a newborn same age and a snotty snivelly 2yo who couldn't stay because he was too ill. No, that would be just too weird. Btw, am not some weirdo stalky type, just putting 2 & 2 together in a amatuerish supersleuth kinda way.

leifmum · 05/03/2008 17:46

hi kinki! so pleased your dh is ok. far more paranoid now i've got dd about anything happening to dh! hope this week is less stressful for you.

well i didn't get an interview for the nhs job. bit disappointed because i know i'm the perfect candidate and would be good to have practise at an interview becuaes all the ones have done have been for ZSL and it's a bit different when you know everyone on the panel and you can't be creative with the truth! talking of which my boss was meant to ring me yesterday about work and still hasn't called. getting really fed up with me constantly chasing them. will give in and ring tomorrow i guess!

had a quiet couple of days. been for walks, went to firend's house yesterday where dd terrorised her lo who can't defend himself yet! then spent couple of hours in our local cafe with another friend and her little one. dd wolfed down half a teacake! not really sure about her milk feeds at the moment. had been giving her a bottle afer every meal, then one at bedtime but have changed it hoping she'll take more solids. sooooo now she has weetabix for brekkie, bottle mid morning, lunch, bottle mid afternoon, tea then bedtime bottle. so only offering 3 bottles now. i guess with milk and yogurt etc she's getting enough. just strange getting used to proper food as well as milk!

tomorrow we're swimming so need to do some pampering in the bathroom tonight before scaring everyoone away with my hairy legs!

shrinkingsagpuss · 05/03/2008 18:10

tis me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

freaky coincidence!!

yup, I remember you and your little one, made my DD look huge by comparison!

kinki · 05/03/2008 19:50

Whoa, how wierd is that? I remember sitting next to you and chatting for a while but I'm not sure I'd recognise you if I bumped into you. That party was beginning of October, so the babies would have been quite young. Liam was a few weeks prem that's why he was so tiny. Even today at weigh-in he only just made 14lb.

About nappy sizes, Liam takes a very baggy, hanging below the knees, size 3. Ds2 came out of nappies 2/3 months ago and he's just turned 3. His biggest nappy was a size 4. Skinny little arse

Leif, know what you mean about being paranoid. This week I have a strange and morbid compulsion to sort out my will (like I've got anything to leave - not) and guardians for the kids if anything were to happen to us. On that happy note, I'll be off.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 05/03/2008 22:32

Small world, you guys! I think a couple of other ladies on the thread were on the same ward when they had their lo's, up in scotland iirc, can't remember who though.

What kind of games/activities do you guys do with your babies? Need some ideas of things to do with James, my sister says he needs more stimulation than he's getting right now (I feel bad, I've been preoccupied with my own problems to do more beyond the basics the past couple of weeks)

OP posts:
tasha22 · 06/03/2008 00:16

small world lol.

the woman phoned and cancelled appointment at last minute

leifmun-sorry you didnt get the job

my lo is in size 2 nappies and ds2 is in size 5 nappies. i think id be able to fit lo into size 1 though only got fed up buying ittle nappies. o there hes waking better go nite nite

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/03/2008 00:29

Tasha I thought the smaller the nappy the cheaper they are to buy? It's like they know that as the baby gets older it needs less nappies so they bump the price up on them, feckers. James is just going into size 5's.

OP posts:
My2Weegirls · 06/03/2008 09:21

morning it is a small world!

it was conketree and me that were in the same ward - though i scarpered as soon as i could.

think the 2 top front teeth are very immenent here....

james - you're not bad! i do lots of songs and actions e.g. insy winsy, grand old duke of york, if you're happy and you know it etc that lo can join in. toys that are a bit more stimulating with lights songs pop-up etc, she loves going out and people watching (so we are off to glasgow today). but sometimes just playing with a bit of paper or a spoon can keep her amused for ages. peek a boo, door bouncer, loves looking at books especially with faces in them. she loves banging things (wooden spoon and pot). her big sister keeps her entertained for hours - they just laugh at each other all the time.

she loves being in the garden and watching and touching the plants.

don't know if you any near you but music classes for babies are good - we have one near us called ba ba boom and they get to play with instruments and do singing. tumble tots i think is also from 6 months (never been, so can't comment)

i think it's a fine line between doing enough and over stimulating them.

at the moment she's happy lying on her back with her feet kicking her toy box talking away to her walrus teether!

tashsa - hope you get another appt soon

hi everyone else

Pinkranger · 06/03/2008 10:42

so busy on here, just read last few post, kinki, we must be close, barming was one of my school choices but went with west borough as ds1 had gone to nursery there, very happy with my choice, school is great and ds is getting on very well! i also go to the dentist next to clare park! i feel a meet up coming on!

Well ds 2 finally has a tooth! only just cut through the bottom but no problems with it at5 all which is good!! - just been puked on so will try and post more later!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/03/2008 10:49

Ooh we had that walrus teether here too. (Tip: don't ever attempt to sterilise it in the microwave, mine melted and popped)

Did you hear the current advice is to sterilise til 12months? I thought it was 6 months. I stopped at 4 anyway so sod it, just another thing to beat yourself up about- they love to make mothers worry and feel guilty, it makes us buy things.

Thanks for your list of things to do with James, my2weegirls. We don't have a garden, in fact he's never touched a plant or grass, with it being winter the past few months. I might take him to the park later for a wander, do you think he's old enough to go in the baby swings?

Off to try weetabix on him again (we got up late) yesterday he wouldn't eat much off a spoon so I gave him a whole weetabix to gnaw on, but he just decided to sprinkle it all over the carpet instead.

OP posts:
kinki · 06/03/2008 11:28

Hi pink, reckon we must be close! I know a few kids and mums who go to west borough too, but none with a 6mth baby! Wouldn't that have been mad if we'd met before as well. So how many people are on this thread? How funny that 3 of us must live within about a mile or two of each other. Prehaps we should meet up in the dentist waiting room.

Don't suppose you or shrinking go to a mother and baby/toddler group do you? I keep meaning to, but never got round to it yet. There's one on Heath Rd, and one in st Andrews church. Not sure which one to go to.

James, compared to my poor little boy, James gets lots of lovely attention and interaction from you. Liam just gets left to amuse himself half the time. About swings, Liam sits in a baby swing that hangs from the kitchen door frame. It's one my bil made, but is only a bit smaller than those in parks, so he probably would be ok in one. I remember ds1 kept leaning forward in swings, so I used to put reins on him and tie him to the back of the swing iyswim. Helped prevent the whiplash he'd have got otherwise. Oh and liam wants to go round to yours for tea if that's ok. Your menu sounds so much appealing than the slop and gop my dc get served up on a regular basis.
