where is everyone

Belated Happy birthday for yesterday Ellie

Elkie, are you meeting NL?

SO SO glad half term is ending after today. DD has been good, but my goodness does she talk It's non-stop all day. And I mean all day. Mostly not even stopping for breath Most of it totally unnecessary and total bo@~:@,s Glad she'll waffle to others next week

Bramshott · 22/02/2008 14:45

I'm here! Well in spirit, if not in actuality.

Had a read of that thread Runny - blimey! Don't think I have ever picked either of mine up early, except at Christmas! One of the comments really wound me up where someone was saying that if your child doesn't like going to the supermarket, you should go in the evening when they're in bed . I really feel that there's no way children need or benefit from that level of martyrdom - surely learning that sometimes life is fun, and sometimes there are boring jobs which need to be done, is a vital life skill?!? And my evenings are sacred, for me to relax, drink wine, and spend time with my DH therby staying happily married!!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 22/02/2008 14:51

had a text from Dippy, her pc won't let her on MN

I have suggested that maybe dp has blocked it so he gets her all to himself

martyrdom, that's the word bramshott. Ridiculous, has she never gone out without her children for fun? well that's worse, surely!

runnyhabbit · 22/02/2008 15:27

I've got the accounts assistant job!!!!!

And they agreed to re-jigging the hours, to suit me and childcare. So as from Monday, I'll be working 8.30am til 1.30pm Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri.

I've calmed down about that thread. Well, I'm a bit calmer

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2008 15:29

Fantastic runny, well done!

Bramshott · 22/02/2008 16:19

That's fantastic news Runny - well done!!

Bramshott · 22/02/2008 16:20

In a spooky echo of Katy there!

elkiedee · 22/02/2008 16:29

Congratulations Runny, two job offers in a few days. Hope the new job goes really well. And as for that thread, remember that nearly everyone who posted appears to be on the side of working mums using the childcare they've paid for as they see fit.

Bramshott · 22/02/2008 16:38

That thread is still going (576 posts now . . . ) I am resisting the temptation to post anything I will regret!

elkiedee · 22/02/2008 16:53

Well, Xenia just managed to wind me right up on another thread.

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2008 16:58

ooh which one?

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2008 17:21

aaaah how does anyone get anything done?
trying to cook, hes just screaming

Bramshott · 22/02/2008 17:25

Oh SPB, poor you. I think for the first 18 months, with screaming as a constant background noise. And then they discover telly . . .

O is not right. She went down for a nap before 2.00 and is still sleeping . Probably the coldy thing I thought had gone away. She is miserable with teeth too, but that wouldn't make her sleep and sleep, would it? Poor DH is going to have a fun day tomorrow while I'm at work!

Bramshott · 22/02/2008 17:38

Ha, should know better than to say that, as she is now of course awake!

elkiedee · 22/02/2008 17:55

I use telly on D now. And especially the extras that come with our cable TV service, music videos and Teletubbies work a treat.

I also don't get anything done.

D totally confused me by sleeping for over 2 hours. I set off home - 20 minutes walk - about 2.45 and he fell asleep on the way. I just expected he would wake any minute and he did squawk a few times, but he was still asleep when dp got home at 5. I did do some online banking while I waited for him to wake up, but otherwise....

Hope you manage to cook your tea, SPB.

elkiedee · 22/02/2008 17:59

This is the thread that's been entertaining/winding me up.

Eddas, no, I'd love to meet NorthernLurker, maybe some time when I'm in Yorkshire we'll get to organise some way of doing so.

When I was so sad about my baby blanket being taken to carry off items of greater financial value in our burglary last month, Dippy asked a friend from Mumsnet to make a replacement.

DutchOma not only knitted a lovely new blanket for us, she came to deliver it in person and to meet Danny and me. I understand CD and DO know each other from the prayer threads and DO also posts on arts and crafts. Her daughter is a mumsnetter and that's how DO discovered the site.

I was wondering where I might take her, as the cafe culture areas are 2 miles from here in the opposite direction from our nearest tube station, and finally thought of the Bernie Grant Arts Centre, named after our former local MP who died 8 years ago. They have a nice but rather posh cafe with highchairs - no proper changing facilities but at least the toilet floors are clean - I changed D in the disabled one and at least he didn't spray the floor.

We chatted about lots of stuff for well over 2 hours and it was a really lovely afternoon.

Thanks so much Dippy, and I'm thinking of my thank you post for DutchOma now.

Oh, and the blanket is really nice - the choice of colours is very like the one that was taken, but I think the wool is probably rather softer and nicer. I just need to recreate the marks where I burned the old one (can't remember how) and give it to the cats to sleep on for a few months now! (only kidding, I will treasure this blanket and treat it nicely but we'll definitely use it).

NorthernLurker · 22/02/2008 19:04

Evening all

Busy day today - Good work assembly (again - proud mother boast ) then babies and toddlers group then had loads of shopping to do in town - mostly food but got a dress for B in Gap and some leggings for the big girls. Then off to school and home with a little friend belonging to dd2 in tow. Dh now making soup to take to a friends tomorrow and I am pushing my luck being on here when I should be bedding down children

Elkie - DutchOma is great isn't she - how lovely for you to get a new old blanket
I would love to meet up as well - do you know when you are coming ooop north next?

Runny - well done on the job!

WO - party sounds great - arriving at delivery ward 45 mins before birth sounds not great - to me - I like to be well settled in - we'd been there for about 4 hours before B arrived.

Poor Dippy's poorly computer - must have caught the pox from P!

I read the childminder's thread - and it raised my blood pressure too.

Frankendooby - hope the doc can get your migraines under control asap! I've only ever had one 'proper' migraine - with visual disturbance - 1 was enough!

Oooggs - sorry you had such a bad night - hope tonight is better

Bramshott - poor little O - three hours sleeping is never good news is it - apart from between 8am and 8pm - when it's fine

Eddas - yeah to the end of half term

Hello to everyone else - judging by her silence I'm guessing SOL has made it to the land of no kettles otherwise known as Slovenia - SOL if you're out there - hope you're doing ok!

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2008 19:19

Ahh elkie glad you got a new blanket for Danny, that one sounds lovely and I bet you'll think of MN every time he chews uses it

T has been incredibly grouchy all afternoon/evening. TV entertained him for as long as I was there beside him, as soon as I left the rrom he howled! Think his tooth might still be bothering him (how long can one tooth teething pain last?) Think we're in for another dreadful night

Can I refreeze frozen bread? Made veg nuggets to freeze, only occured to me as I was crumbing the bread by hand (don't ask) that I'd got it out of the freezer! Still DH likes them so if I can't freeze I'll get him drunk and there'll be none left by morning

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2008 20:19

I'm sick. He's not let up or slept all day. Still wide awake now. Tonight is going to be dreadful.

Bramshott · 22/02/2008 20:46

Aww SPB - I've got nothing useful to add, and I'm rushing as I have to leave for work at 7am tomorrow, but I'll be thinking of you tonight.

Cathy xxxx

oooggs · 22/02/2008 20:49

Well last night got worse Jack screamed for two hours every two hours in the travel cot in our room, at 2.30am I went and jumped in bed with James this morning dh and I totally exhausted.

Took him (well all of them) to drs and Jack has an ear infection and is on calpol for 48 hours and Erin has a runny ear again and is on amoxacillin (sp?) again.

Hopefully tonight will be better

Well done Runny

oooggs · 22/02/2008 20:50

oh Katy - I hope with no rest today that he is too shattered to wake in the night - will be thinking of you (when I am up too )

StealthPolarBear · 22/02/2008 20:58

oooggs I think you have had a worse night! Hope their infections clear up soon, and you don't have another bad night
Thanks for being nice to me, both of you, I'm feeling all sorry for myself
