sounds like they need to get out pesha

CaptainDippy · 15/02/2008 12:21

LOL @ our differing suggestions!

Right, need to go and make some lunch for myself - P still sleeping!! Going to munch some food down and then wake her up (if she is not up already ) & then go out to get older 2 and then off to friends for the PM - Feeling exhausted just thinking about it!!!!!

oooggs · 15/02/2008 12:24

thats the difference between a good mummy and a bad one dippy

StealthPolarBear · 15/02/2008 12:34

Aargh I have an interview on the 28th.
But apparenlty it's a full day thing, will T be OK? Will I be leaking all over by the end of the day? Should I ask them to provide breaks for me to express?

oooggs · 15/02/2008 12:36

oh katy I have no idea - sol should be able to asvise you later when she is about. T will be fine, not sure about your top though

weeonion · 15/02/2008 12:46

afternoon folks. how are you all? beaut day out there but as C was up most of the night - thats 2 in a row - i feel shattered. not sure what is up with her - hoping it is teething but no real sign of that!

spb - i have been away for full days at work in teh past and i HAD to express a couple of times - dire need. i would maybe ask in advance about it. C was fine - chanking down the bottles of ebm i had left.

still no word from work re my appeal. apparently they have had to bring in an employment specialist to draft the response! bloody hell - you woudl think i had asked to change the whole organisation. doesnt bode well....

off to take c to view a nursery - not sure how that will go as they on paper seem to have a different "philosphy" to ours. they dont like cloth nappies nor ebm apparently!

StealthPolarBear · 15/02/2008 12:50

Thanks Going to ring up as there's some confusion about exactly where the job is based, so I'm not even sure if I'd want it.
wo - they don't like cloth nappies and ebm Tell them they don't have to wear them / drink it Seriously, that sounds a bit worrying!

Sexonlegs · 15/02/2008 13:15

Afternoon all.

WO, Your nights sound dreadful. Hope things improve soon. Good luck with the nursery.

SPB, as WO said, I am sure if you phone in advance and advise them of your situation, they will be able to accommodate your need to express.

Pesha, your day sounds as good as mine! Tbh it has been fine, but I am so short tempered. Going to head to the zoo after K has had her nap. Have emailed you btw.

Eddas, good to see you.

Quick question. K's eyes look a bit mucky - probably just snot in her eyes. Do GP's prescribe stuff for conjunctivitis?

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Back later.

StealthPolarBear · 15/02/2008 13:24

Thanks SOL - patterened tops here I come!
Hope you enjoy the zoo and K's eye gets cleared up, sorry I don't know the answer to your question

Bramshott · 15/02/2008 13:28

Have read through, but no brain - sorry!

SOL - O has had gunky eyes with her cold this week (along with general snot and moany-whingeyness!) and a friend told me that GP's don't prescribe for it any more unless really bad. I've just been wiping it away with cotton wool dipped in a mixture of warm water with 1tsp salt in it. Have also been doing the magic squirting breastmilk into eyes trick, but I don't think that's an option for you is it? Enjoy the zoo. I am half dreading / half looking forward to half term - at least we have a lot planned!

Sexonlegs · 15/02/2008 13:31

Thanks Bramshott. I'll keep wiping them and perhaps buy some stuff over the counter then.

Another quick question re sterilising. We are going away at the end of next week and there is no microwave. I can't be arsed with sterilising tablets etc. Are you all still sterilising?

Bramshott · 15/02/2008 13:33

Nope - don't sterlise, but do still use boiled water. O doesn't have teats though, she has this Boots bottle to cup feeder system with soft spouts. Not even sure if I am supposed to still be using boiled water, but I figure it's only for another month!

StealthPolarBear · 15/02/2008 13:41

i do sterilise bottles SOL but I really don't think I need to any more. Just a force of habit thing if yuo see what I mean and he has so few it's no hassle. I'm far more fussy about them having been washed really well though, as I think DH thinks sterilising is a magic solution that will make all the milk gunk trapped in the teat disappear
I do sterilise the breast pump though, but only because I'm going to freeze the milk so it might as well be as clean as absolutely possible first. If he was having it straight away I don't think I'd bother. Definitely don't sterilise cutlery etc.

StealthPolarBear · 15/02/2008 13:42

You mean to make up milk? If you use cold water does it still dissolve OK? I thought you would always have to boil the water for that reason?

PillockOfTheCommunity · 15/02/2008 13:45

I don't sterilse or use boilded water, but I'm guessing that doesn't surprise anyone

SOL I wouldn't get anything over the counter for her eyes even, it should just clear up on it's own (Joe had the same at the beginning of the week) and if it doesn't it is bad enough to need GP meds, not just over the counter IYSWIM

OP posts:
PillockOfTheCommunity · 15/02/2008 13:46

SPB it dissolves in cold water just fine! In fact, guidelines at one point were to boil water then leave it until you needed it, so then it would be cold when you used it!

OP posts:
PillockOfTheCommunity · 15/02/2008 13:50

The boiling it is to kill off bacteria, which is why you should use water that has only been boiled once, not repeatedly. The latest hoo-hah is that the formula itself may have bacteria in, so by using water at a certain temp it would kill them off.

Thanks ladies.

Right, off to the zoo. See you all later. x

PillockOfTheCommunity · 15/02/2008 13:51

have fun!
I'm at work on my own, can you tell?

StealthPolarBear · 15/02/2008 14:33

can't believe it's so early, feels like it should be 4.30...

cazboldy · 15/02/2008 14:43

Hi all - we have half term this week, and dh is off today, and all weekend!

we don't sterilise any more - I stopped when she started crawling around and putting stuff in her mouth - couldn't see the point any more, but do use boiled water.

Runny, how old is your ds? Charlie my ds3 was 2 on the 3rd of Jan and although I wouldn't dare take him out anywhere without nappies yet, he has been wearing pants at home all week, and so far only 1 accident, when we had friends round, and we just did our first poo on the potty!

StealthPolarBear · 15/02/2008 15:28

T being a stinkychops today, about to change my 4th stinky nappy today, less than an hour after the last one!
Apologies to everyone for boring them with poo, apart from SOL of course

NorthernLurker · 15/02/2008 15:29

am feeling quite smug as you all eye half term nervously as today is the last day or ours! Of course that means I have to drag myself out of bed again on Monday.....

Just got home now and had to ring up and shout at the council as they didn't take our rubbish today - or the large pile of bags they left further down the street. The woman on the phone said 'is today your collection day' I fought the urge to say 'no it isn't but I was hoping the magic elves would spirit it away' - said that it was and then she had the nerve to double check!! Aaaaaaargh!!! And they aren't coming back till Monday! Don't normally say this sort of thing - but what are we paying squillions in council tax for???

I don't sterilise anything for B - poor neglected child! Dd1 used to have her bowl and spoon sterilised for her every night. I muct have been mad!!

WO - an employment specialist! Are we thinking they're saying no then? Sounds like they're running scared to me! Sorry you've had such bad nights - B has slept badly this week as well - but last night was a lot better - slept in her cot till 1.30 then fed for 20 mins, then back to sleep in travel cot (her second home!) downstairs till after 7am.

Runny and Caz - sounds like all is going well on the potty front!

Hi Ange - pleased to hear you both had a good night out

Dippy - that all sounds good - will you be handling large amounts of cash then?

Hello to everyone else

Pesha · 15/02/2008 15:32

I dont sterilise anything anymore but I do use boiled water on the odd ocassion I give him formula, as POTC said formula is not sterile and there have been a few tragic events (without wanting to seem too alarmist!(is that a word have actually been using my brain today so it has collapsed on me now!)) resulting from it not being made up with hot enough water. But I just use water straight out the tap to give him as a drink.

Also agree with what POTC said about eye drops SOL, Dylan had sticky eyes for ages over christmas, I asked pharmacist and she said they would not give anything over the counter for babies under 1 anyway. I just cleaned it with water every now and then and it cleared up on its own.

I got email sol thank you so much Printers being arsey though but have saved it to dongle and dp is going to take it to his mum's to print and send off tomorrow.

Have also completed the horrid council application form with the person spec so will get him to print that off too.

DC still being annoying, dp came round and helped out briefly but is now sleeping on sofa And D still not had a sleep at all today, not even a snooze on my lap! Thinking it might be time to get out the house now!! Now do I have to take them with me or can I just sneak off...?

Pesha · 15/02/2008 15:38

N stood in middle of room, M stood next to me both watching telly then all of a sudden she walked up to N and kicked him on the leg It wasn't very hard tbh but still. I told her off and asked her why she'd done it and she stood there staring at me. I said 'you just walked over to him and kicked him for no reason and kicked me too in the process' and she replied 'in the where...?' I PMSL!!

Very bad mummy both for not carrying on with my telling off and laughing at my daughter's confusion but I couldnt help it! Am still chuckling to myself now!!
