Pebblemum · 22/02/2008 22:34

Alana has done this before and it is really horrible because of course they cant tell you whats wrong. I hope she stays settled for you

Im all bunged up and my throat is sore. Have lost count of the number of colds Ive had this winter, roll on the warmer weather

Did any of you watch Watchdog the other night (I didnt but MIL told me about it) Apparantly the 'cheap' leather sofas can cause rashes due to a certain chemical used on them. Alana has had an unexplained rash all over her body for over 2wks now, no one seems to know for sure what it is but its not getting better. It doesnt irritate her but it looks and feels horrible, she is covered all over her torso, back and front and a bit on her legs. It started a few days after our new suite was delivered. Someone please tell me its a coincidence, I love my new sofas plus Land of Leather are refusing to accept there could be a problem

Am just off to look at the watchdog website now

AbbyLou · 23/02/2008 09:07

Morning all. Hope you all had a peaceful night. We didn't hear any more from R last night thank goodness.
Pebble did you find out anything interesting about the sofas? We have v cheap leather sofas but to be honest haven't had any problems.
What is everyone up to today? I am v excited as today I get to pick my car!!! C is off to the park with grandma and grandad to plant trees. They belong to the friends of the park association so he's very excited about that. I'm not sure how thrilled R will be with the garage but hey ho!

Pebblemum · 23/02/2008 09:36

Think we are ok, the people who complained all came out in blisters and itchy rashes, Alana just has lots of little red spots all over and it isnt itchy. Also after reading what the website said I think it sounded worse when MIL told me and in fact theres only been a few people who have had these reactions
Glad R was ok in the end

AprilMeadow · 23/02/2008 09:52

just a quick one to let you all know that i am still alive!

YAY YAY YAY YAY SOH HAS COME HOME!!!!

Welcome Liahgen

Pebble, I watched Watchdog and it wasnt so much that they were cheap sofas but actually to do with the manufacturer in china (timewise....?? i think). They put a fungacide pack in the sofas, like silica gel, BUT NOT silica gel, and that is what has been causing these reactions. It doesnt effect everyone and it can takes months before you actually get any symptoms.

Nothing particularly exciting to report. Off to a birthday party today with J.

liahgen · 23/02/2008 11:54

morning all,

Well got sucked in to the thread re dv last night. Have checked this morning, but no news.

I've got a pampered chef event this eve so have to clean my kitchen. Gonna send dh out with kids to collect some scalextric track we got from Freecycle, so I can get cleaned up.
Freecycle is fab, ds is sooo looking forward to making this huge track. Need to get him some new cars too but prob ebay for that.
I've got a cheapish leather sofa, (Argos) never had probs. Looks a bit sorry for itself now though, cream was a good idea with only 3 kids..

Does anyone on here grow their own veg or stuff, Me and kids did some planting last weekend, and been watching Jamie, but if anyone can point me to some user friendly websites that'd be fab.
Thanks

largeginandtonic · 23/02/2008 14:33

Seriously freeeked out LG&T here...

we are growing stuff too!!! DH mostly in charge, i supervise We have cucumbers, tomatoes, chillis, various herbs, mushrooms and lettuce on the go atm. They have started out in little pots in trays with a cover. Some have graduated in to larger pots and are in a green house thingy but still inside.

AM good to see you are still alive!

I forgot CharleyMouse too Muppet that i am. She has had a difficult start to the new year too with little George being taken in to hospital with anaemia. He is back on his build em up vits and on the mend now. Poor mom is feeling guilty but she shouldnt be, she is doing a fab job

We have all the lovely kids back no really it's great. They always look so big after a few days away.

I feel the need to make a carrot cake, need Beau to crash first. He has slept through 2 nights running now, well till 5 anyway. He cries and i lie him down telling him to go back to sleep it is NOT getting up time yet and he has gone back to sleep till 8!!!

Ah the mean mummy that i am i refuse to be pregnant with a child still getting up in the night.

mom2latinoboys · 23/02/2008 14:42

Welcom liahgen, hope we aren't too crazy for you!!

Ok now did everyone know that turning the handle on the toilet is called . . . . wait for it . . . . flushing? because I've heard it about a hundred times this morning.

Mateo sat on the potty for the first time last night, Cruz is still his silly self (he likes to suck on my face, and blow raspberries)

LG&T I found frightening amazing that you knew so much about everyone. I can't even remember what I ate for breakfast.

twelveyeargap · 23/02/2008 19:03

Just popping in from mum's house. Haven't caught up yet. A has thrown up three times today. Proper violent sicks - some sort of iffy tummy, but is otherwise perfectly happy, so doesn't seem to be a bad bug. (Am thinking she'd be listless and not herself if that was the case?) Any tips for either (a) settling her tummy, or (b) surviving 2 hour drive and flight home tomorrow, if she's still not well?

Mrsjaffabiffa · 23/02/2008 19:50

Sorry A is unwell TYG. When J had this along with the whole household we dealt with it by ONLY giving her water. Make up 7oz cool boiled water with 2 tea spoons of sugar and a tiny amount of salt. They reccomend giving it to them in about an oz every 15 minutes but J would drink the whole 7oz every couple of hours. She seemed to keep this down no problems. We gave it 24 hrs before re-introducing milk but for her it wasn't long enough and ended up doing a further 48hrs before going back onto her milk. She had the runs too though.
After 24hrs if she has not been sick again then start with a small amount of dry ish food, toast, cracker, rice cake or something and introduce a little fruit juice, the sugar will do her good. If she is not sick within another 24hrs then she should be ok to go back to her normal diet.

Bless her, poor thing it is not nice for them, I felt soooo helpless for J it broke my heart, but like A he was not bothered by it, still happy, clappy, noisy, smiley J.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 23/02/2008 19:51

J is not a he, she is most defiately still a she. [dur emote]

juliewoolie · 23/02/2008 20:52

TYG have you thought about giving her diarolyte. Its vile but it does replace all the salts and sugar. I would either be brave and carry on with the milk or make it half strength. Good luck for the flight.

Great summary LG&T.

Oi prodigal dont come on and tease us get back on here properly and start the tales of living on a farm am sure its giving you lots of material for writing.

MrsJB I will take one of those allbran recipies I can pretend that its healthy eating.

Went to our lovely new house today to measure up for carpets and curtains. It's lovely cant wait to move there.

My son is truly bonkers he is obsessed with cables and trying to kill himself. Am counting down the days before our first visit to A&E. Think I need to start taking him to tumble tots or something he really is a whirling dervlish.

Pebblemum · 23/02/2008 22:25

TYG sorry to hear A's not well. I hope that whatever it is she has got is gone by the time you need to travel.

I have a stinking cold again and feel like poo Went to bed last night covered in lots of snuffle babe (couldnt find any Vicks) and Karvol Helped me to breathe a lot easier lol. Dh had fallen asleep in the living room luckily so I didnt suffocate him with the smell and by the time he came to bed about 5am it had eased off a bit. Think I may do the same tonight.

Ds1 has just come into the room, looking for his tooth. It finally came out this morning after giving him days of pain but the silly boy wrapped it in tissue and left it somewhere in the living room Of course Ive tidied up several times and if i'd seen a bit of tissue laying around I would have thrown it away. I've told him we will look for it tomorrow but dont hold out much hope of finding it (not that he believes in the tooth fairy anymore so really its a waste of time)

Right im about to soak in a hot bath to try to clear my nose then smother myself again in the hope of getting a good nights sleep . Night all!

charleymouse · 24/02/2008 01:06

This was only my second night off from G except when he has been in hospital which i don't really think counts. Felt really lovely and relaxed just a little bit guilty (don't tell LG&T I said the g**y word)

Hello to everyone else hope you are all okay.

largeginandtonic · 24/02/2008 10:09

TYG what a feckin nightmare, really hope she is ok this morning for the trip back. I would starve her too, assess the situation once you are home. Sick on a plane\car not much fun.

JW i want to see you house, is it on right move? Email me details so i can nose Must go and get dressed, dh has marched the older 4 chldren to church The twins were dragging their heels and saying all the questions they have planned for the Sunday school teacher. One of them was " why is there suffering in the world, does God want that for us?" Oh how i wish i was a fly on the wall...

elkiedee · 24/02/2008 12:11

JW, know what you mean about a crazy baby obsessed with everything you don't want him to touch. One reason why we go out so much. Think we'll go to a park this pm if the weather holds and a soft play place otherwise. It's great going places where I can allow him to shoot off a bit. I don't know how near your local library is, the children's room in ours is quite good for little monsters though we did get there at the end of a messy play session yesterday and I had to remove a few scraps from the playmat. I don't know where to begin at home. Hopefully with a new home you'll be able to think about baby friendliness from the start - ours has more than 9 years of accrued clutter and nearly 10 months on we need to do lots of work throwing out what we don't need and putting what I can't part with permanently in storage.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 24/02/2008 14:18

Chocolate breakfast Cake

100g All Bran Cereal
250ml Boiling Water
2 eggs
6 heaped tsp of drinking chocolate
1/2 cup of granulated sweetner

Pour the boiling water over the all bran and mix, add the eggs, chocolate & sweetner and beat until combined well.
Pour into a 6 1/2 inch round plastic tub or other suitable microwaveable dish. Smooth the top with the back of a spoon and microwave on high for 6mins. Check it's done by making sure a knife placed in the certre of the cake comes out clean. Turn out and barf enjoy!

It's good with Ice Cream, kinda defeats the object though. I quite like it but then I am trying to loose weight and I like all bran, which helps!

Pebblemum · 24/02/2008 14:26

I am so feeling so sorry for myself at the moment. I still feel like poo and yet dh has spent the day in bed watching dvd's while I have struggled to do the ironing, hoovering, washing, food for the DC, while feeling weak and shaky. The most effort he has made today is to call out to me asking for some lunch, he is still waiting It doesnt help that despite knowing how bad I felt last night, he still thought it was ok to wake me up at 6.30am to talk to me and then put tv on which then meant I couldnt get back to sleep

Ive tried to cheer myself up by going on ebay but everything ive wanted Ive been outbid on at the last minute

Definately not my day today lol

anneme · 24/02/2008 15:19

poor you Pebble - maybe leave him to get his own food (I was going to suggest a full on strike but that is often more hassle than it is worth)??! Once the dcs are in bed curl up in bed and hibernate - you must look after yourself or you will not recover.

CM - you are doing a really good job - glad you had a good night out as well.

LG&T - v impressive knowledge of all on the thread - v useful for those of us whose brains are def a bit woolly!

WELCOME BACK SOH - looking forward to hearing about life in the wilds of Norfolk - are you anywhere near that big outdoor adventure place that has opened up? We are thinking of going there sometime.

Abby - how is the car?

Hope all pox improving. S is looking better - getting a bit p*d off with people looking at him and saying "Oh, he's not looking too bad - except for that really bad spot there" "that is a birthmark" I then say through gritted teeth. Alternatively they tell me that their child was FAR more spotty - honestly - it is bad enough your child being ill without everyone trying to have one up on you with the number of spots.....

Am I right in saying that they are no longer infectious once all the spots have crusted over?

Pebblemum · 24/02/2008 16:16

yes thats right, you can get back to the land of the living now lol

DH has now sunk to an all time low-he ate my big galaxy bar Had settled Alana, the ds's were both out and so i thought i would cheer myself up with a bit of chocolate only to discover he has gone and ate it. If I had the energy I would have beat him

AbbyLou · 24/02/2008 18:10

Pebble sorry you're feeling rough. You're dh seriously has to suffer for that - I would have killed mine!!
Anneme, we were told that with chicken pox they now say you are not infectious from 5 days after the onset of the rash. These are the national guidleines now and I was told the same by my childminder and the gp. We were back out again after 5 days, I couldn't stand any more. The car is luuurvely thanks. It's a black Citroen C3 and is now on order. I just hope they can get the one I want.
I can't believe half term is over already. We've got an Inset day tomorrow entitled Literacy and the Moving Image - sounds riveting! It means I have to be at work for 8 so dropping the kids off should be fun. Of course I still have work to do but I'm thoroughly cheesed off now as I just sat and watched my beloved Chelsea lose the Cup Final to Spurs!

twelveyeargap · 24/02/2008 19:09

Thanks all. We survived with only a minor sick at the airport. She had some toast early this morning and lots of water during the night and this morning before we left. Offered her a tiny bit of milk when she was full of water and it stayed down.

Tiny bit of bread at lunchtime and some milk, which came back. Thankfully she just slept on the plane. Not like her at all, but she was very sleepy -I suppose because she has no energy from food.

Got her home and DH crushed a Motillium anti-nausea tablet (on advice of internet) and gave her a 1/4 dose in some juice. Seems to have worked and she kept down some highly diluted juice and then some milk before bed.

Will pop back in later and catch up.

AbbyLou · 24/02/2008 19:39

Glad she's a bit better TYG and that you got back in one piece. You'll probably find that she picks up now you're home.

AprilMeadow · 24/02/2008 20:27

Abby, i just have to say HAHAHAHAHA we won the cup!!!!!!! WOOHOO about blinking time we won something

AprilMeadow · 24/02/2008 20:39

Pebble sorry to see that you are not feeling very well. And at your dh eating your choccy bar, i would have gone mental at my dh! I hope that you are able to have a relaxing evening.

Julie, great news about the house am that you have been to measure up already! Dh says that i have to wait until we exchange bofore i can do that

LG&T great round up..... although not sure about the mansion status of new house...... How did the vicar fair today with the twins questions? I hope that AF buggers off quickly for you, sounds like you are having an awful time with them!

MrsJB, only 7 weeks until you come visiting The scary thing is, is that by the time i see you Ella will have celebrated her birthday!

Cam, am loving the chicken shed. Am so of the beautiful colour of the sky in all your pics. Please cna you try and only post pics that are taken in the rain, dark or when its cloudy

SOH, your new house sounds just beautiful. I have all these images floating round in my head of what you three look like (looks very Darling Buds of May).

TYG, sorry to hear that A has been poorly. I hope that she turns the corner now that you are home.

Big hello to the rest of you lovely ladies.

juliewoolie · 25/02/2008 04:03
