LES - happy birthday for Friday! Hope you have a lovely day

re baby sign - a friend of mine used it with her daughter and she reckons it really helped. Her dd was signing long before she could talk and my friend says it was wonderful to know what she wanted from such an early age. I got a baby signing book for Christmas but I'm not using it yet - babies will start to sign at around 10 months as they need reasonable control over their hands - so I'm going to start at about 7-8 months I think.

Mine - hope your visit to your office goes smoothly today and that ds behaves himself!

re nappies - we're using Tescos own and they seem fine.

Morning all!

Happy birthday LES!!!

Well, Henry woke up at 4.30am this morning and I left him a while but he didn't go back to sleep so I gave him abottle and he had the whole 8ozs!! Hungrier baby milk is calling... I then had to wake him at 8am to do the school run.

We had Ollie's friends over last night and they totally trashed my livng room -is upstairs and their mum/me were downstairs whilst I cooked dinner. I am not joking, they completey wrecked it. All of the boxes were tipped out and the railway was everywhere. Would it be to 'teacher' of me to say next time they could only play in the downstairs room and not go in to the living room? (The time before they were in my room and bouncing on my bed )

Am sat typing at the gym computer as I have been brave and left Henry at the creche for an hour to see how he gets on. If he's okay I might try to go swimming on Weds and Fri as I really need to tone up the baby tummy and get fit as I get out of breath just walking to the top of the house these days!

Re the signing, I have made contact with the owner and are just going to read the prospectus she sent me. I then get to go to a class to see what it's all about etc. Dh is very keen for me to do it as it seems to be a good thing to do around children. I'm keen as evebtually I would likt to re train as an Ed psych so learning to sign is a new skill that would enhance what I really want to do. Also I can run baby signing calsses for SEN children -Downs, Autistic spectrum etc so it really is a win win situation.
I did sign with Oliver and used 'baby's first signs' he was a frustrated baby and this did help as he would sign what he needed. I can't say if it delayed speech but he didn't speak till 2. When he did speak it was in complete sentences -I'm not kidding!- as he was taking in all that was ging on around him. I belive it helped ease his frustrations (and helped us!) and also the basic communication stimulates something in the brain pre verbal so it helps the brain learn. (I'm sure Alice would put this far better than me )

Got to go now as picking Henry up
Speak later
Emma

Hi all,

Have just been to Slimming world - have los 1/2lb this week - despite going to MacDonald's twice ... Rhydian made me ! Back to it this week!

Dal, I paid £25 for it - I'd be happy with £15 posted - email me to let me know if you want it!

Anyasmum - I know you want the joggers - I just need to work out how much postage will be - but I'd be happy with £7 + postage ... note to self - sort it out!

Mairwen is in tots bots (bought for her) / kushies (now on their third child!) during the day, and tesco's own size 3 at night ... she's now getting too big for the tots bots, so I'm looking to get the next size up ... I'm tempted by the bumbles - they look very sweet!
If she poos when she's asleep, it always wakes her up - pooing is a big deal for her because of her medication! However, the other night, I just assumed she was grumbling, and ignored her and she went back to sleep ... she had a bit of a red bot in the morning [bad mother]!

We had the best night in ages last night - I was only up once at 4am for about 45 minutes!

Right, going to book to have my waxing done - ds keeps telling me that I have to play the part of Chewbacca when he's playing Star Wars ... perhaps he's trying to tell me something!

love and waves to all!

J2O · 30/01/2008 15:37

hi all, just got off the phone to CSA about the sperm donor, did i tell you al i was getting abusive messages off him on facebook, saying Shannon wasn't his? now, as far as i know he's moved to Australia, anyway i gave the CSA his Dads tel number so they can try and contact him and they took my bank details so he can transfer maintenance into my account yeah right! i really hope they can track him down, oh maybe in about 5 years so he owes a sh*t load!

went to buy some hungrier baby milk today, i'm going to introduce a bottle a day to the greedy guts, she just had 8oz and was still routing for more!

Dal-what do you mean you're not coming to the york one! if you want the bra's send me an email and we'll sort it out.

ooh also bought some more variflow teats from asda, uit says to use which stage you need, 1,2 or 3 position that number under the baby's nose when feeding, should have read it ages ago, no wonder she get's frustrated half the time, i bet she's getting the slow flow!

sorry for the randomness of my post, been changing a mucky nappy inbetween writing and forget what i'm on about.

i'm going to get a baby walker and a high chair tommorrow, Shannon hates being laid down, and when i sit her up in her nest she wriggles that much that she gets into weird positions, so even if she can't touch the floor yet at least she'll be upright in her walker, just for a little while, while i get whatever done that i need to, any reccomendations?

Mine · 30/01/2008 17:29

i survived london underground!!!
just got back from out little adventure in london....took the little mite to my office in Leicester Square.. boy is it a mission with a baby, buggy and all his things.

Naturally they all cooed over him!

LES - happy birthday!! i've emailed you about the london meet up. Bit worried about capacity... i only have an ickle house, but i'm sure it'll be fine.

J20 - sounds lik eyou have a mission on your hands.

BTW.. whats a tots bots and kushies ???

My ds is also a greedy bugger. HV suggested i switch to hungrier baby milk, so i'll try that tomorrow.

Taking dad to hospital tomorrow. Its an all day thing so it'll be the very first time dh will be taking care of ds all on his own ALL DAY. Think it might give him a taste of what my days are really like.... secretly wishing ds will really kick off

missbumpy · 30/01/2008 17:47

hi everyone

Mine, well done for braving the tube. I've only done it afewtimes and hated it. I'm meant to be meeting a friend at Victoria tomorrow and I'm dreading the tube journey. Did you use a pushchair or a sling?

So Floria and Stefka, are you using real nappies? I always meant to but have ended up using the naturecare disposables. How are you finding real nappies? Is it a hassle?

LES, happy birthday!

ejt, congrats on the weight loss. that's good going.

J20, hope the CSA track this bloke down. what was he saying on facebook?

I've had a tiring day. Drove DD and a friend and her DD to a shopping centre. Met up with another friend who's 37 wks pg (God, doesn't it seem like a lifetime ago!!). Anyway, friend's DD was really grumpy and cried all the way there and back which stressed me out a bit. I lost my confidence on the way back and made some silly mistakes (stalling and bad parking). Now I don't have my L-plates everyone just thinks I'm a crap driver rather than a new driver! Ah well, nice seeing friends and got some nice sale clothes for DD and me so it was worth it

Mine · 30/01/2008 18:01

we used a buggy... dh did a trial run with the sling yesterday and could only manage ds for an hour as he is just too heavy to lug around on your chest all day.

Don;t think i could have managed at all with ds in a buggy on my own on the tube.

Good luck tomorrow at victoria!!

WinnieThePooh · 30/01/2008 18:57

Hi Everyone,

Not had time to post recently and not got a chance of remembering what everyone has said.

Miss Bumpy congratulations of passing your driving test and well done on the trip to the shopping centre.

Mine, I use cloth nappies on Shula. I have 10 Motherease Sandys and 5 Motherease one size for the day time and 5 tots bot for night time as they are a bit thicker. I don't think it is a hassle, I do a nappy wash every other night and they dry overnight on the clothes airer.

MIL had Shula for me yesterday as I had to go to the other side of birmingham for a meeting with a rep that wants to be a sales leader. She was well behaved, but did not take much from the bottle I expressed ( about 3oz 10am-3pm) When I got home MIL went to get DD1 from school while I fed a rather hungry baby, she emptied one side and started on the other.

I am going to go swimming on friday with some of the mums from the baby group I go to on a Monday. I won't be there next week though as Shula has her 3rd lot of immunisations at 2.30pm.

Can't remmber who was asking where to find details of baby groups an activities. Have a look at you local netmums site for details. They also have a meet a mum board that you can post on to meet others that are local to you.

TheLadyEvenStar · 30/01/2008 21:25

I am so upset as I won't be able to make the London meet up. I have a real problem with travelling and dp is working the night before so can't drop me off....

Maybe we can arrange another soon at the museums in kensington?? I can cope with travelling that far.....Sorry. Has been a problem for me since i was 18 and i was badly attacked. I will explain if anyone wants to know, but I think this will explain

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/manchester/6147540.stm

the 1994 conviction was a result of what happened to stpo me being able to travel. xxx

Mine · 30/01/2008 21:38

LES am really sorry you can;t make the london meet up, and of what happened to you.

If you're better with trains, maybe thats an alternative....??
I have a train station near by... Ponders End. It runs one ONE railway.
Would that be easier...???
Its only a 5min walk to my house from there.

TheLadyEvenStar · 30/01/2008 21:51

Mine, i wish i could i just can't travel alone as i suffer really bad panic attacks.....its ok there will be other chances xxx

FloriaTosca · 30/01/2008 22:25

Les; I was about to wish you happy birthday..which of course I still do and hope you have a wonderful day but have to say how shocked and so terribly sorry I am for what happened to you and for the effects you are still suffering On a different tack; I keep meaning to e-mail you about the cds...a certain someone keeps interrupting my train of thought these days and Dh wants the computer now...I'll try to do it tomorrow.

Mine; totbots and kushies are just different makes of reusable shaped terry or bamboo nappies.
Miss Bumpy; I love the reusables, they dont take much more work than disposables...I wash them every other day and dry them on the maiden or the radiator (only occasionally in the tumbledryer). The only downside is when out and about they take up more room in the changing bag so I use disposables when travelling but apart from that I'm really glad we went down the reusable route.

Got to go DH nagging...hope you all get good nights sleep

Mine · 30/01/2008 22:38

LES - i'm really sorry about what happened to you; and its a shame you can't make the meet up but its completely understandable that you find it difficult to travel alone considering what you have been through.

What are you doing for your birthday????

strawberrylace · 30/01/2008 23:17

Evening all
LES - sorry you won't be at the london meet, but completely understand - sounds like an awful awful thing. we will do the museums later in the year - i would love to go to the natural history museum sometime.
Muppet - think it is fine to say that kids can't go upstairs if they're gonna destroy things
Missbumpy - great about the shopping trip
Mine - well done on doing the underground

I have awful pains in my boobs again, so have been back to HV and docs - more tablets and cream for me, as DS seems ok, so doc thinks i have bacterial infection. Grrrr - is so annoying!
Anyway, tomorrow some local mums I know are coming round in the afternoon for some tea and a chat, so I am looking forward to that!

Back tomorrow!

muppetgirl · 31/01/2008 07:59

Les - I am so sorry you were attacked. We are going to the Natural History Museum this sat as a treat for Ollie being good at schol. If you fancy that we could meet up then?

Will reply to posts later as running really late after his majesty got me up at 4.30am again. So much for the hungry baby milk....

speak later
x

PolarMummy · 31/01/2008 08:39

just a quick post, muppet, just check your hungrier baby milk, the HV at the baby group I go to said that some of them were just really a marketing ploy and didn't actually have any more calories in them. Not sure how true this is as I am BF but just thought I would share it in case it is useful.

ejt1764 · 31/01/2008 09:08

hooray ... had 8 hours sleep all in one go last night ... ! First time in ages!

I love the reusables - I dry pail (hate changing crappy water), and throw them in the washing machine with the other whites ... and a dessertspoonful of nappy soak. I tumble dry them ... but I'd be tumble drying the rest of the washing anyway!

We use disposables at night ... I have a packing system for going out during the day which means that I use them during the day too!

tLES I really hope that you get over the trauma very soon ... {{{{{hugs}}}}} to you.

The Met office says we may have snow - first this year! We rarely get any here as we're so close to the sea... I'll be like a big kid myself if we have snow ... we've got gales at the moment though

alice - any progress on the meet-up for us?

AnyasMum07 · 31/01/2008 09:32

Morning everyone

LES - sorry about what happened to you and that you are still suffering the effects.

Had really good day yesterday - fed Anya every time she woke from a nap (very baby whisperer!) regardless of when she last fed - and it worked! She was hungry each time and took much more than usual over the day. I think she wants the calories but can't physically take huge amounts of fluid in one go. Might look at hungry baby milk, but we were planning to start weaning next weekend so that might tie in very well. Anyway we had hardly any tears all day .

Hopefully we will have another day like that. DH and I are going out to a board dinner at the hotel where he's on the board of trustees. A proper grown-up evening out for us and the first time we've both left her with someone else - my parents are babysitting. Cross fingers that madam behaves.

Just debating whether to take Anya to a new playgroup (new to us that is). She loves being out of the house and doing new things but it is pi**ing with rain and blowing a gale - just the kind of day where I like to stay curled up indoors...

FloriaTosca · 31/01/2008 09:58

Good Morning!
Or perhaps not if the weather for you is as bad as it is for us...unbelievable these strong winds!
muppet; really chuffed that my suggestion might be useful I hope it all works out for you. oh and sorry you were up with me at 4.30

Well I'm a fairly happy mum this morning... Alex went down at 8.30, fed well for 10 min at 12.35, and again at 3.45, I was a bit miffed that he woke (with wind again)at 4.30 but after a brief top up (3 Mins)and tummy rub he went back down until 6.45! Daren't speak too soon but if we can get back to just 2 feeds between 8 and 7ish I will be happy.

Glad I saved this...we have had melt down, looks like trapped wind again but all calmed down now...better go and get ready for slimming world, I couldnt go last week and I think I may have ruined the previous weeks 6.5lb loss ...ho hum, still, better face the music and try again

MrsFish · 31/01/2008 10:35

Morning all.

Well I am off to see the HV again with Ben today and get him referred to see a dermatologist, his skin is no better no matter how much stuff I put on him he is dry again after a few hours. He is red and flaky all over and it is really bothering him now. I have changed wash powder to ecover and stopped using fabric softener and it has done nothing, so it MUST be the milk, even though HV says not. I am going to try him back on Aptamil, I have a feeling he got worse when I put him on Cow and Gate and now he is 4mths old he probably doesn't need the comfort easily digestible stuff. I am also going to ask about using soya milk, it is worth a try at this stage because it just breaks my heart to see him like this

He was awake at 4am this morning, settled him off but he was awake again at 5.10 so I fed him and put him back down.

Weather was foul here this morning but it is now brightening up a bit.

Kinki - I can't believe that was in your lung at least it is now sorted and you can think about getting better.

LES - sorry to hear about your fears about travelling alone, have you had counselling about it?

Muppet - I tried the cow and gate milk for hungrier babies with Ben, it made no difference whatsoever

MrsFish · 31/01/2008 10:37

ooops, getting my threads mixed up, the message for kinki was meant for the sept thread

muppetgirl · 31/01/2008 10:51

Anyasmum ? We have gales to so we?re staying in today. Went to sainbury?s this morning, got the jobs out the way for the day and only have to get Ollie from nursery. I have whacked up the heating so we?re snug and warm.

Floria ? Yes, thanks for the idea! My only problem is that someone has the area of Swindon so I can?t work here although the lady only runs one class so does have the rights to run more. I can do the adjoining areas as I?m fairly near Hungerford, Newbury etc but I was hoping to use our house to hold a group (if it all works out that is but you have to think of these things in the beginning don?t you!) as we have a large ish living room. You have to pay the owners 12 ½ % out of your takings plus your other costs, petrol, room hire so Dh is happy to go ahead but wants to make sure I?m not just working for minimum wage as I could just walk across the road and work in Borders the book shop for that. I would be happy with earning what I would as a supply teacher (I would never go back to teaching but you have to know what you could earn) The owner is organising for me to see a session so that should be good.

Polarmummy ? Thanks for the tip. I never used it with Oliver as he was weaned at 15 weeks. The HV seems fine for early weaning with Henry as he?s a porker of a boy but she would be happier to get to 16 weeks. Having looked at the tins I can agree that there doesn?t seem to be any difference! SMA gold is Whey based and the White is Curd based but the nutritional info seems the same. The carbohydrates are less in the Gold and that?s what I though you needed to bulk you up?

Ejt ? Fab news on the 8 hour sleep! And brilliant news on the weight lose

Mine ? Well done for your trip into London (central) you are much braver than me. I did it with a sling, I?ll have to swap tips with you when we meet up!

Well baby massage was cancelled as the lady is ill so we did jobs and came home. Henry is asleep atm so I'm just going to tidy round and then settle for an afternoon of cushion cross stitching. I need to get it done as I need to start the sampler for my God daughter (get me!!! Oh so proud!) I've got her one as although I normally by baby's silver jewelery - girls crosses/boys cufflinks - her family are all Christians so I'm sure someone else will buy her that so I though a sampler with the alphabet, noah's ark (she has a lovely picture of Noah's ark in her bedroom) with room for her name/birth date/weight etc. It's quite traditional so she might like when she's older.

I rang the Vicar from that church we we married in (5 years ago this year!!!!) (It wasn't that Vicar as he was away on a steam train enthusiasts weekend when we got married so we had a retired Cannon with a wicked sense of humour ) asking if we could baptise Henry there. He said yes but we had to contact our local Vicar to ask his permission as a matter of courtesy. Did that and all is fine so I'll be organising Henry's 'bash' soon. My brothers won't be able to come which is sad as it's the first family 'do' since they went to Canada that they will miss .

Have a good day all
x

Stefka · 31/01/2008 11:51

Hey Les, I am so sorry to hear about what happened to you. I don't know if it would interest you or not but I know of a good on line support website. It's the largest support website for survivors on the net, is well moderated and been around for years. You can find it here:

pandys.org/

Your difficulties with travel are more than understandable. I hope you have had some good support for yourself.

MissB - at the moment I am using a combination of cloth and nature care because I don't have enough cloth to use all the time (especially since my tumble dryer packed in). I want to get more but need to choose which ones. At the moment I have a combination - it was a sort of intro pack of different types.

Dareh has started waking up at five - I don't know why but it's making me tired!

MrsFish - your HV probably won't be able to refer you on - you'll have to see your GP for that.

Just a stupid question (both Rhydian and Mairwen suffer with exzema, as do I), do you mother him in Aqueous Cream? When Rhydian was at his worst, I would smother him 4 times a day ... and put a tiny dab of hydrocortisone on the worst bits. I'm having to do the same for Mairwen. He also has emollient to put in the bath ...

You could still find that it's your washing powder - just because it's friednly to the environment, doesn't necessarily mean that it's skin friendly ... there was some research done on cloth nappy wearing babies, and those who used biological washing powders had a smaller incidence of skin problems ... it surprised me too! I'll look up the reference later - got to go, Mairwen is in meltdown mode!
