Hello ladies!

Well here is the new thread so I can link it before the old one runs out... Hope you all find it!

Just got back from weigh and Henry is 16lb 2ozs at 12 weeks. Advised to try the hungier baby milk to stave off weaning so like you, J20, am going to do that. He's not showing any other signs so I think it's just a growth spurt.

J2O · 29/01/2008 14:35

Stefka-yes saw gp, lo seems to be growing out of it.

muppet-what a whopper! not had lo weighed for a couple of weeks but she was 14.4 at 14 wks.

ejt1764 · 29/01/2008 15:17

Hi Stefka - I have to admit to turning to MN - I posted this thread - then took her to GP when lots of people suggested reflux.

Mairwen is on Gaviscon - it's sory of holding things at bay, but she still gets very upset when feeding, and I can't lie her down at all. The Kellymom site has some excellent information on reflux.

muppetgirl - WOW!!!

We've just been for Rhydian's speech therapy - he's now going to be referred on to a specialist speech therapist for Welsh speakers, as the problems he's having are very much linked to Welsh language sounds. He's also got quite a pronouced lisp, so we've got some exercises to do for that too - they wouldn't do anything about it before as he was too young, but it's not resolving - the fact that he's now older, as well as the fact that his hearing impairment has now been diagnosed as well, makes it more important that he gets some focussed specialist support.

Right, off to wake up Mairwen ... I want her to go to bed early tonight as mum's stopping over to give me a hand, and I'm going to my Welsh lesson!

love to all!

FloriaTosca · 29/01/2008 15:33

Sorry to hear about the possible reflux Stefka.
Wow what a whopper Muppet!
Glad to hear that Rhydian is getting a specialist welsh speaking therapist ejt

We have had a busy day today; baby signing was great fun, Alex really loved it for the first 20 mins but got hungry (what a surprise ) and lost interest until his hunger was addressed...we then went shopping (killing time) until our swimming lesson..I was surprised that we were encouraged to go underwater with out los so soon but, yes, we did ring-a-ring-o-roses etc and Alex loved it...sorry,can't remember who asked but someone wanted to know what age they have to be..well at our pool any age can go in the baby pool, you dont need to have finished your vaccinations, you just need to have them wearing a swim nappy ("little swimmers" etc)but they can't start the lessons until 4 months...I went with DH for the first time last week but managed changing etc on my own without too much trouble (there are changing tables in the ladies changing rooms)and today was a doddle thanks to the advice on here to take 2 baby towels. Alex is now flat out!!! (wish he would sleep like this at night!)

Stefka · 29/01/2008 16:46

OMG Dareh had a complete melt down this afternoon. He screamed for an hour - proper crying not just grumping. Nothing I did soothe d him - he even refused the boob which he never does. He eventually just passed out on me. He's still asleep now - managed to ease him into his chair after half an hour of having him sleep on me. No idea what that was all about but it was scary.

strawberrylace · 29/01/2008 17:06

Afternoon all!
Muppet ? at no af ? I?m onto my third or fourth (losing count cos it?s so depressing), and wow at Henry?s size!
Stefka ? what a nightmare with Dareh and the screaming. Its horrid when that happens isn?t it. Also, someone I know said infacol takes a while to get into the system, so you might need to use it for all his feeds, so it can build up
Ejt ? glad DS is getting referred, I had never thought there would be specialist speech therapists for welsh, but of course there would be
Floria ? a friend of mine took her LO swimming today ? I?m thinking I might give it a try as well (will need to see if I have a costume that fits!)

Olly is fast asleep on his beanbag at the moment, and I am trying to get my youth work portfolio finished. I?ve been a part time volunteer youth worker for about 5 years, and this is my last chance to get a qualification before everything changes. Of course, I?ve known about having to do the portfolio for months, but I have left it till the last minute - why did I do that??

J2O · 29/01/2008 17:26

stefka-just realised you're bf(sorry can't keep up with who's doing what!) here is a site that i was looking at when i was bf lo and i thought Shannon had refux, basically its when bf baby's are getting too much of the foremilk and it ferments in there stomach, so if you're feeding lo a lot you're meant to stick to one side for 4 hours then use the other side for the next 4 hours, i'm not sure what your feeding patterns are like but maybe worth a try.

i've been to docs and changed my pill to the combined one, gp said it was prob the mini pill causing the bleeding, right off to make tea.

i wonder where Inzi is?

ChocolateHobnob · 29/01/2008 19:55

quick question --

we had baby massage today and I massaged Rebecca's chest with the organic sunflower oil we were given. I did her legs with it last week and noticed they had gone spotty a day later. Tonight her chest is covered in a hideous rash. Not meningitis cos it fades when you press it... do I assume it's allergy and ignore it?

MrsFish · 29/01/2008 20:12

muppetgirl - WOW what a whopper, I thought Ben was big he was 17lb 5oz at 17 weeks

alicet · 29/01/2008 20:38

Choc babies get rashes at the drop of a hat. If she is otherwise well I would do as you say - presume its a reaction to the oil and not worry.

Sorry to those still having sleep probs / screaming babies / reflux etc...

Sorry got to go have tea now - sorry not responding to everyone personally but it's getting hard to keep up! As always thinking of you all xxxxxxxx

OP posts:
FloriaTosca · 29/01/2008 21:08

Choc; our HV run baby massage group uses grape seed oil as the carrier oil, it might be worth trying instead of sunflower if you think it is an allergic reaction.

Dalrymps · 29/01/2008 21:23

Ejt - just while I remember, i'm about a 34/36f so the top sounds like it might fit! How much were you wanting for it?

J2O · 29/01/2008 21:28

dal are you coming to the York meet up? i have some nursing bras in 36E and 34F and 36F, i'll bring them for you if you want, gotta goo now Shannon kicking off grr....

Stefka · 29/01/2008 21:43

Question for you girls. If you hear your baby poo and is they are asleep do you get them up to change them or let them sleep?

AnyasMum07 · 29/01/2008 21:48

Can't remember who it was who was asking about free baby groups, but try this - you can find out whether there are any local SureStart groups and email them for a list of activities.

Stefka - sorry Dareh suffered after his jabs - hope he feels better soon.

Floria - good news on not having to work full time - you must be thrilled!

Muppet - thought I had a light af just before Christmas, but nothing since so not really sure what's going on. Not bf since 8 wks old.

Anya's only 13lb 6oz at 16 wks - she's going to be the tiny baby at meet-up!

Choc - Anya's had a rash on and off over last 3 weeks too - thought it was washing powder/stain remover/etc, but I did wonder if it was the oil from baby massage (don't know what type it was). It was just her tummy/chest though, not legs/arms/etc. She's not been ill with it and it passed the meningitis glass test. I use Johnsons baby oil for massage at home and the classes are finished now so I'll wait and see if it comes back at all.

Had another difficult afternoon. Might try abandoning feeding routine and feed her every time she wakes up from a nap instead - for her night & morning feeds she has her bottle as soon as she's awake so maybe she's getting confused as to why that doesn't happen for the afternoon/evening feeds, even if she's not very hungry . Or maybe her gums hurt (will investigate powders, thanks whoever mentioned it - sorry forgot). Or maybe she's just fed up in the afternoons. Or maybe she's tired and needs longer naps. Or maybe she's got my sore throat. Deep breath. At least our nights are good - means I can start each morning with renewed optimism - sympathies and hugs to all those who don't get that chance!

AnyasMum07 · 29/01/2008 21:52

Stefka - cross-posted. Anya's only pooed once overnight and that was 6:20 in the morning so I only had to get up 10 minutes earlier. I would change her if she did it again though - I doubt she would sleep very long with a dirty nappy anyway. I say that now, but I can well imagine lying there at 3am thinking 'it'll be fine - maybe it wasn't a very big poo'...

alicet · 29/01/2008 22:11

I wouldn't wake Adam if he had a poo while asleep if he wasn't awake. Wouldn't hear him though as he sleeps in his own room now! But if I went in when he was awake I would def change him - usually we don't bother during the night apart from his 3am (ish!) feed.

OP posts:
Stefka · 29/01/2008 22:15

Dareh has done a poo a couple of times and slept right through it. I didn't get him up but felt bad about it. It takes so bloody long to get him to go to sleep though.

strawberrylace · 29/01/2008 22:29

stefka - we have to change olly asap after we hear him poo - they are so explosive that a moment's delay results in everything being covered (including my jeans last week...) Thankfully he has always been awake at the time - and always gives us a big grin immediately after he's done it!
Incidently, what nappies do you all use? just thinking i might try something different - we are using size 3 huggies natural fit at the moment

Stefka · 29/01/2008 22:35

I am using a combination of naturecare nappies and cloth ones. I plan to supplement my cloth ones so I can use cloth at home but I need to decide what to use first.

Mine · 29/01/2008 23:15

hi all.. been a bit busy last couple of days..... well trying to keep busy.

Thanks for the kind words ladies... this is the reason i'm on here.. feel like it really helps.

Muppetgirl... i too have a whooper of a baby. I got Eren weighed yesterday.. he clocked 16lb at 14 weeks! HV also advised i change to hungrier baby milk as he's guzzling 8-9oz with most feeds.

re baby sign language classes - i have a friend who has been doing this with her dd and it looks like great fun, but not sure if it has any more benefit than just talking to your lo and getting them used to 'normal' language. I think she really does it as something fun for them both to do which is cool i guess.

Thanks Choc for the SureStart link. I'm going to be looking into it.

Went to the drs today.. he thinks i may have PND, but i'm going to try and get through it with perseverance, rather than medication.

ds was being a huge diva tonight.... not had a night like this in a long time, but i guess he'll throw me a few curve balls every now and again to keep me on my toes!!

He had better be on his best behaviour tomorrow as i'm taking him into my work office in central london to show him off. DH has some holiday at the mo, so will be able to come along and brave public transport with the buggy!! Should be interesting...

Re massage... try olive oil. You can get some from the chemist if you obviously don;t want to waste the cook 'kitchen' stuff. My ds loves it and it doesn;t cause any kind of skin irritation. Baby oil is also a good one but not as good as olive oil.

night night all...zzzzzzz

Dalrymps · 29/01/2008 23:23

Bloody el! I just nealry finished my post and pressed back by acccident and erased it
Choc - Dylan got a spotty rash after we used olive oil to moisurise him after his bath, gp said it was just a heat rash ans hv said it might have been cause oil doesn't let their skin breathe so to try changing to a baby moisturier. We just put some sudocrem on and changed to boots own moisturiser for sensitive skin and it cleared up .
J20 - hope the different pill helps with the bleeding, thats the last thing you need!
Stefka - if dylan was sound asleep and did a poo i'd just wait until he woke to change him, although thinking about it i've just realised he hardly ever does a poo through the night wonder why? has done them whilst having daytime naps though.
Floria - sounds like you had fun swimming, we can wait to take dylan
muppet - wow henry's doing really well with his weight, dylan is 9ib 15oz at 13 weeks! Mind you he is a tiny little elf, was only 6lb 5oz when born, keep willing him to grow so i can put him in all the groovy outfits we've got waiting for him!
J20 - still haven't really decided whether i'm going to the York Meet, it's more likely i'll just do the berwick one but if i change my mind i'll let you know... if i don't i could give you something for them and pay the postage for you to send me them?
Dylan had his 2nd set of jabs today, cried initially but ok now, last time he was fine until 3 days after then had a day of awful crying, hope he doesn't cry through the meet on fri .
Strawberry - we've used a few different nappies, tried higgies super flex, they fit quite well but poo keep shooting out one leg, so we tried huggies newborn size 2 but weren't that impressed with the fit... we tried pampers newborn which were really good but very expensive, then on the advice of dh's bro we tried morrisons own make size 3, they're very cheap but seem to fit Dylan really well and only a very occasional tiny poo spillage so we're sticking with them for now, thought they'd be rubbish but as good as the pampers in my oppinion! We do actually have a whole set of reusable tots bots that we've never used yet, i've tried them on him a few times but they just look massive, they kind of fit but look weird, the wrap seems to come up really high, not sure whether we're ever going to use them or sell them?
The feeding is going well, bf counsellor said to stick to same amount of formula but bf him as much as poss around those feeds so been doing that, she said it'll take a few weeks to build up my supply and once he's gaining a good amount of weight we can think about reducing the ff. Got him weighed today and he'd put on 5oz in 6 days, so relieved and happy he's put on a bit more, hopefully it'll carry on. He's still not waking in the night, might start expressing in the early hours to get my supply up even more though.
Where has inzi got to? hope she ok, hope her dog is ok
Anyasmum- looks like Dylan will be smaller tham Anya by the time he reaches 16 weeks if he's 9lb15oz at 13 weeks so, i went to a baby massage class yesterday and there was a 3 week old baby that looked almost as big as dylan! Having said that there was also a 6 month old that was only a tiny bit bigger than him so i guess they come in all shapes and sizes
Alice - hope you're doing ok, hope the sleeping is going well
missbumpy - hope you slept well after lo slept so much in the day yesterday
nellie - hope it went ok and you managed to keep lo in the cot, sometimes ds ends up in our bed, getting less frequent though, think it's me that wants the cuddles more than him though .
Well we're off to bed now, looking forward to the berwick meet on fri! ((((sleep well vibes to all))))

FloriaTosca · 30/01/2008 08:38

Good Morning All!

Nappies; we are on Totbots bamboozles during the day,yes they are a bit bulky but very cute and I've only ever had one leak (when Dh had done the change)...it just means you'll be getting into the next size up trousers that much sooner! and we use Tescos own brand size 3 at night (and when travelling as real nappies do take up a lot of room in the bag). And as to changing at night, we almost never have to but he hates a dirty nappy and would let us know very quickly if it was.
AF..despite breast feeding my first one started almost as soon as I had stopped losing from the birth (about 5 weeks, the next came 3 weeks later and then I went on Cerazette (mini pill)which stopped them apart from some break through bleeding..I had a coil fitted last week..it was supposed to be a Mirena hormonal one but GP messed up and fitted a copper one (she phoned to tell me and appologise on Friday!) so we will see what is going on naturally fairly soon and if necessary I'll have it removed (ooh the temptation to leave it out )and the proper one fitted

We had a tired little boy last night afer all that swimming, he was yawning from 7pm, I started the bedtime routine at 8.00 and he was flat out by 8.30, almost before I had started singing . He woke at 1am and 4am for feeds as usual and I hoped that we were getting back into the old routine and his next awakening would be at 7am but sadly no, I think this waking at 5&6 has become a habit...he's not hungry, he just has wind and lies there alternately moaning, trumping, gurgling and yawning ...last night (5am this morning) I offered him the boob, gave him some gripe water, massaged his tum and did some knee bends/cycling movements to help get rid of the gas then put him back in the Amby, bounced it, sang his bedtime songs and finally put my head under the pillow and let him get on with it[bad mummy emoticon]...not that I slept I was waiting for his whinging to escalate into full blown crying but it never did... at 6.00 he finally fell asleep again until our normal getting up time 7.00.. At least I feel more rested for not walking the floor with him trying to make things better...oh and guess who has just fallen asleep again under his gym?
I'll take advantage and go and get my shower...

TheLadyEvenStar · 30/01/2008 08:38

Morning peeps......
Hope everyone is ok. When is the London meet? can someone email me on [email protected] and give me the details please.

I am off out on Friday evening for a meal as it is my birthday yippee NOT. I am getting old!!!!! I don't know what I am getting on my birthday but dp is taking me away at the end of the month as a birthday treat. We are looking for a little cottage somewhere nice quiet but with things for ds1 to do.....unless someone wants ds1 and ds2 for the weekend lol.

Had Zachary weighed and he is now a healthy 1st 3lb....and in a pudding lol. I still have a load of clothes of his for sale and ffp. Up to 6 months as he is in 6-9months as he is chunky and also where i use reusable nappies they are slightly chunkier than disposables BUT they are also cuter lol.

Am still having problems with ds1, although after I pulled him down a peg or 2 over his wonderful sperm donor, they are not as bad. Maybe I was wrong but I told him what a wonderful (not) person his father really was not only hitting me for 4 yrs but also twice going to hit my dad who was disabled. I am still getting the attitude but nowhere near as bad.

After a long chat with DP he now understands what I have been saying about his ds, and the situation of him only wanting to know dp when there is money involved.I have been trying to tell dp for months and he has now seen it for himself. He has stopped trying to make arrangements with his ds involving days out and money being spent and is now inviting him to come to our home, which never was a problem until i had zachary and then the boys mum decided she wanted money from dp every month as opposed to him buying uniform etc when it was needed.

Anyways coffee intake urgently required so be back in a bit lol xxxx

TheLadyEvenStar · 30/01/2008 08:47

Dal, if you are going to sell the tots bots can you let me know how much you will want for them. Have been using kushies AIO's but now zachary is too big for them and tots look so cute on him!!!!!
Also anyone who does use reusable nappies I have got to sell the Kushies and Fuzzi Bunz i have to fund buying different ones for Zachary. I also have a large amount of wraps etc that I don't use if anyone is interested.

xx
