Hello ladies!

Well here is the new thread so I can link it before the old one runs out... Hope you all find it!

Hello all!

SOrry to hear some of you are having tough times with teething. Would second nellie that nurofen is better than calpol. Plus give them something to chew on - I was recommended teething beads like these. Sam wasn't that bothered by it but the people who told us about them swore by them. Not expensive so maybe worth a go?

MrsFish !!! Like me you were so anti any more! Something just gets to you though doesn't it

Muppet agree there are loads of ways to be close with your lo other than bf. I was just thinking about this today before I read your posts - I think its why I like the hugabub so much. Adam still sleeps in it for at least a couple of hours every day although for ease of other people looking after him too I try and get him to have 2 of his sleeps elsewhere. Bathing with them is fab too although our bath has a crack in it so we can only have showers at the mo. Or use the baby bath for the boys!!! And just also wanted to say that Ollie and Henry are both different - just because Ollie didn't behave the same with you when he was small doesn't mean that now you are not bf that will happen with Henry too. So much else was going on in your life then to influence how Ollie was with you it's just not the same situation. So to stop wibbling I think what I am trying to say is don't beat yourself up about it honey!

We have been out on the train this am (we have a metro in Newcastle and it's Sam's fave thing to do at the mo!) and then out to lunch with some friends. Both boys are sleeping now but when Adam wakes (he's in the hugabub) I am off out to buy stuff to make a giant fire engine around our kitchen units for Sam's second birthday party next weekend! Should be fun!

hey inzi think dylan is teething a bit but not too bad... yet! Got him things to cool and chew but he spits them out most of the time, hope it gets better for you soon

alicet · 02/02/2008 15:21

Oh and on the subject of greedy baby milk (no offence to your los - this is what we called it when Sam had it! ) it isn't about having more calories. The proteins that make it up are in a different propertion and the ones that are in the greedy baby milk are harder to digest so they feel satisfied for longer. So they are still getting the same calories but they feel fuller for longer.

Hello everyone

Inzi, sorry to hear you are having such a hard time I hope you find something which works, I know of someone else who swore by the nelsons powders just seemed to really calm their baby.

Quick question for you all, how long has your lo gone without a dirty nappy, at what point should you worry? And what can you do to help them go?

FloriaTosca · 02/02/2008 16:14

Inzi; we have been having the same problem (though to a lesser degree) on and off for a couple of weeks... a neighbour swears by giving them a water soaked muslin chilled in the fridge to bite on, but dentinox gel seems to be doing the trick for the moment...bother got to go feed a certain someone...be back later

Dalrymps · 02/02/2008 17:13

wow, my sil's sil (confusing, I know) is in labour! i'm so excited, it's made me feel all nostalgic about giving birth, I think i'm actually jealous that she's about to experience the most amazing feeling ever... meeting her baby, they don't know the sex yet so even more exciting! Hmm I can't believe i'm actually feeling broody
On a less exciting note I have a terrible cold , started with a 3 day cough and now my nose is running constantly, a bit strange that it started with a cough? I usually get the cold bit first then end up with a cough. Also, the dishwasher we've only had about 2 weeks has decided it's not working today, it was 2nd hand off dh's bro but has been working fine up until now, just keeps making a whirring noise like it's gonna start washing but then never actually does
Polarmummy - I think the longest Dylan has gone is about 4 days but as soon as we start worrying and think of trying something to get him to poo he always does it so we've never really tried anything, i've heard people give them cooled boiled water or you could massage lo's tummy in a clockwise direction/circle legs in clockwise direction etc...
alice - keep meaning to ask, roughly what part of newcastle do you live in? just wondering if you live anywhere near where I used to live or when my bil lives?
Stefka - sorry to hear you're having such a hard time, I really feel for you, I know that feeling of being so tired you feel ill, I don't cope well with tiredness at all, hope it improves soon...
j20 - dylan was grumpy a few days after his jabs too, just had them on the 29th, feeling a lot better now though , hope your lo is feeling better now
muppet - our dog once ate her own vomit (eww) but that was before the baby was around
Anyway off to have a honey and lemon, hello to everyone I haven't mentioned, catch ya later

AnyasMum07 · 02/02/2008 17:18

Bought boots own teething powder this morning - identical to Nelsons. Not sure it's having much of an effect, she's still really unsettled. Not sure what to do really. Go back to Calpol? Opinions appreciated as to how long you'd be comfortable using Calpol for.

Dalrymps · 02/02/2008 17:34

Any advice on this would be appreciated

strawberrylace · 02/02/2008 18:41

Hello everyone
have been out in town all afternoon with my friend - lunch followed by shopping followed by coffee followed by shopping! Heaven! DS was great all afternoon - chatted to himself during lunch, slept during shopping and had some milk during coffee.

Sorry to hear that LOs are unhappy with teething - Olly is very dribbly and likes chewing on all his fingers at once, or trying to stuff a whole muslin in his mouth. So far no signs of anything else though.

I know what you all mean about feeling broody - a friend has just had a little boy, and when she sent me a pic its was so wierd, realising how big DS has gotten already - and that that newborn stage of just sitting and staring at him was over so quickly.

Missbumpy - what site did you get your bras from? I fancy seeing if I can get some nice underwear to cheer me up - I am still bf, but it is painful. I am now trying fenugreek and eating lots of porridge to try and up my supply so he doesn't have to suck so hard...

Hope you've all had great weekends

missbumpy · 02/02/2008 21:01

Hi

Strawberry, new bras have cheered me up no end! Wearing one today and it's made me feel like a new woman. I actually bought them from this website but it's australian and it took forever to arrive. Then I noticed they sell the same brand at figleaves. It costs a bit more but at least delivery would only take a few days. Go to figleaves and then search by brand for 'Hot Milk' (dodgy name, I know!). The other one I got is an underwired one by Le Mystere. I know some people say you shouldn't wear underwires while breast feeding but I'm prepared to take the risk!

Got to go. I'm in the middle of cooking dinner.

Have a nice evening everyone
x

Hi all
Well, not the best day we've had
We wanted to take Ollie to the Natural History Museum as he wanted to go see the dinosaurs. Dh wanted to get a parcel from the post office first. We got there, he queued for 20 mins to be told that it had been left in the recycling bin outside our house and, you've guessed it, they took the bin and emptied it!!! DH was furious as it was a coat from ebay he'd payed £82 for. We then went to the station passing under the railway bridge that had a digger on top to which dh said 'that doesn't look good...' We paid £3 for the carpark and wandered round to the station to find out that there were virtually no trains as there were engineering works. There were buses to Reading ( 1 1/2 on the bus to reading) I said no way with 2 children as I get bus sick myslef. We explained to Ollie and he was so disappointed that he even said 'I don't mind going on the manky old train mummy! (We saw a train that had pictures on it and dh told him it was a really old manky train) So we said we'd drive to reading and get the train in from there. When we hit reading ollie said he was hungry so we stopped ay the Savacentre and went in the drive through McDonalds to which Oliver then started saying he didn't want to go to London anymore dh was I was and Henry was starving so I climbed in the back to give him a bottle.
We ended up going home as once Ollie has said that he generaly whines and whines and we were tired from Henry waking us at 4.30am again.

We went home.

Dh took dogs and children to the local large park with stately home place whilst I slept.

Not the best day ever.

Btw Henry ahs had his first 9oz bottle today I am mixing the hungry baby powder with the gold powder to ease his tummy and gradually introduce it as he didn't take as much of it at first as it's thicker. I'm doing a 4/4 mix atm and wil start each day introducing 3/5, 2/6, 1/7 . I hope then he will still take as much milk rather than just a little of the hungry baby milk as it's thicker.

Going to bed now as very tired
night all

hi all...

teething.. i thought i was being silly for thinking my ds was having symptoms of early teething but maybe i'm not. He too chews endlessly on his fists, gets grumpy and drools soo much. Maybe he's just curious about his hands!

Re greedy baby milk... my hv suggested i swap to this after i told her he can drain an 8oz bottle every 2-3 hours.. but when i tried it with ds he really didn;t like it. He was having terrible stomach cramps and wind, just kept crying all the time, and the worst thing was that he wasn;t going any longer between feeds!
So i have ditched it for the previous milk of SMA Gold. I'd rather just carry on giving him as much as he wants as often as he wants. He even has pureed fruit/veg once a day with 4 oz of water and is still hankering for more, but i have to draw the line somewhere!

A greedy baby is hard to keep up with.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

AnyasMum07 · 03/02/2008 09:21

Morning all.

Anya slept through fine last night and she's fed ok this morning - much to our relief! - so her gums can't be that sore. She must just be a very sensitive baby during the day (like I didn't know that already ). She's back to sleep now without any pain relief but we've got Calpol, teething powders, bonjela and dentinox all lined up ready to fight the good fight during today .

Looking forward to York tomorrow. Have to wait and see whether little madam will be in a good mood or whether she'll find an excuse for a meltdown at some point!

ChocolateHobnob · 03/02/2008 09:58

Hi all

Alice, sorry but I win. I told you you protesteth too much about only having 2 kids. However - could you really manage a pregnancy and 2 teenies???

Stefka, hope Dareh slept better last night...

I've cut out the night feed because it wasnt helping settle Rebecca, and she didnt seem very hungry. She has for last 2 nights gone 11 hours between feeds. Which is long! However she hasnt been sleeping in the interim. I am hoping though that longterm it might help, since it hasnt worsened her sleep and doesnt seem to have altered her behaviour at all - she doesnt cry at night, she just plays. She also does 360 degree turns in her bed through the annoying leg banging technique - it's almost funny to watch (but not quite). She has a cold though and her eyes are running a lot and she's sneezing nonstop - horrid.

Got to go cos inlaws here but hugs to you all and looking forward to tomorrow!

muppetgirl · 03/02/2008 10:14

Hi all

Henry slept till 6am so maybe the mixing powder to introduce the hungry baby milk is working (or maybe is was just a fluke )
I also think he only woke as darling Oliver woke us all up at 6 with his bouncing on his bed and jumping off can this phase pass quickly please?

I am at the gyn atm in the children's corner on the computer as they have computers in the adult only section but I have Henry so I'm in the kiddies bit with playstations around me and cbeebies on the big telly. ARRRAAAGGGGHHHH so much for a quite time at the gym

Am going to the tennis meet at 4 this afternoon so are a little nervous but should be good. Are very jealous about your meet up tomorrow, can't wait for our London one!

Have emailed the person we bought dh's jacket off to ask if they can caim for the lost parcel to which he said no he couldn't help. We paid £6.99!!!!! for postage and we have lost £82 for the jacket but we can't claim as it's the sender that has too. He won't, so we've lost out. Anyone got any advice?

MrsFish · 03/02/2008 10:20

Morning all.

Wel 2 days in on the new cream for Ben and he is a different baby already. He is still red looking but all the ezcema and very dry skin has gone, I really can't believe it the only thing is he screams blue murder when I am putting the cream on, not sure whether its because he is cold when stripped off and cold cream, or if it stings he stops crying once I have finished rubbing it in anyhoo, he is getting better and that's all that matters

I'm looking forward to York tomorrow, I am aiming on getting there by 11.30, the train is due in at 11.20

strawberrylace · 03/02/2008 13:36

just a quickie - muppet - have you tried contacting your local council to see if they found the parcel when emptying the recycling? they would have to sort it, so you might be lucky....

alicet · 03/02/2008 13:36

MrsFish glad the cream is helping Ben. Nice one! Are you getting the later train to York now? Think Choc and I will do the same then....

Muppet about the jacket from ebay. I think thats totally and utterly out of order that the seller won't help. I would leave him terrible feedback! Did you pay through paypal? Think that if you did you can claim through this instead. otherwise would your house insurance cover it?

Dal posted on your other thread. We live in Gosforth and Choc lives in Kingston Park - is that anywhere near your bil?

Choc OK so you do win but honestly it was only a fleeting moment of wistfulness - the thought of being pregnant again while the boys are so small fills me with horror when I think about it rationally. And to be honest I think even if I did decide I would be up for it I think dh is most definately not!

Can't remember anything else! Looking forward to seeing the York punters tomorrow! I have been making Sam's wooden train layout today - painted roads and a river on the board I bought. Just need to buy a thinner brush to add some detail and then I'll be able to stick the track on! Very excited and I think dh is relieved that I will finally stop staying up late making yet another train layout and ordering yet more track

AnyasMum07 · 03/02/2008 15:14

Muppet - would ebay step in if you made a complaint through them? I'm sure they have a dispute-resolving process, and I think this would come under 'item not received'?

Anya's sleeping lots today . Only had one meltdown so far - not even sure that was anything to do with her gums, but gave her calpol, teething powder and dentinox anyway and she eventually fell asleep.

Ah - she calleth.

Dalrymps · 03/02/2008 15:57

alice - my bil lives in whitley bay so not that near, we used to live in north shields and I lived in heaton when I was a student

Mine · 03/02/2008 17:00

hi folks
I'm excited about the york meet too and i'm not even going!! Let us know how you guys get on.
London meet very soon... can;t wait to put faces to names etc.

Muppet - thats really crap, considering you paid so much for the coat, dh must be gutted. there must be something you can do.....

I'm having a good day so far. DS seems much happier with SMA Gold... why change a good thing.

Having dh's cousins over for dinner tonight... so much happier and more comfortable being at home to see his family as they live in an awkward part of london so this suits me down to the ground.. even if i have to put a 3 course meal together... i love it really!

LES - Where are you...?? Want to know how the birthday was.

Does anyone have any ideas on where we could go has a family for a day out that isn;t going to cost an arm and a leg....???
Everywhere seems so expensive. Thought about Bleinhem Palace as they have lovely gardens but its £39 to get in! No wonder people don;t visit england and travel much!

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

alicet · 03/02/2008 18:59

Muppet was thinking about your ebay prob - I think you would surely have some comeback against the post office too. I mean its a bloody ridiculous place to leave a parcel! If you're getting no joy with the seller I would do the following - open a dispute against them and complain in writing to your post office. If you get no joy then claim through paypal assuming you paid through them.

I am also having an ebay nightmare. Ordered a wooden cooker from a German seller for Sam's birthday on behalf of my parents. Just emailed to ask if they have a tracking number as it's nearly 3 weeks and still not received and the seller replied in very broken English to say it has been returned to him last week as they couldn't find my address!!!!! I mean really - it's not as if I live in the sticks I live right in the middle of Newcastle and have never had a problem before. Hoping they will send it back but I suspect they will ask me to pay postage costs again and I really don't see why I should as I have supplied a valid address. What do you think?

Mine we do really silly free or very cheap things for our days out. Like going on the Metro, visiting the station to see the trains and the port to see the boats. Walks in the park, the local library which has a play area for children. But then ds1 is nearly 2 so enjoys this stuff - not so suitable for a baby!

OK off to finish preparing dinner then to read Sam his bedtime stories....

Sorry not to keep up with the posts. Dareh does not seem right still. Very unsettled, being sick a lot and diarrhea. I am exhausted and he is unhappy. I am going to try and get to the Dr tomorrow.
