cazboldy · 17/01/2008 11:44

ok am now up to date

pmsl at your dd liath and also at pesha explaining commando crawling !

Molly has had her 9 month check this morning. every thing was fine and she now weighs exactly 18 lbs.

My health visitor (who I actually really like btw! ) said could she come round and have a chat with me sometime as she was thinking of starting up a young mother's group, or maybe going into the local high school and talking to the teenagers in one of their phse lessons about what it's like to be a young mother! she would really like my view and possibly even my input if i would be willing I was a bit taken aback as I don't think I am a typical "young mum" (if there is such a thing) and think it would all be a bit patronising and well.... "look at me" iykwim.....also think I would find it a bit hard to talk about things in a bad way, like to try and put them off underage sex or anything, as I can honestly say that I have no regrets and would not change a thing... I love my kids, my dh and my life ( well most of the time anyway!)

I didn't really know what to say.... so what do you all think???

Pesha · 17/01/2008 11:52

I'd be terrified of doing it Caz!! Teenagers can be harsh! Although young mums group sounds good.

My baby is sodding crying again, why wont he just go to sleep, he used to. And he was asleep on me so I know he's tired. And dp is trying to sleep so he's going to get an arse on soon.

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2008 12:15

I don't know caz, a young mothers group is one thing and probably sounds fine but the school talk...as you say they'd probably be expecting you to be negative! Why not explain your doubts to her and see what she says?

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2008 12:15

Pesha is he fighting it or just not seeming sleepy now?

elkiedee · 17/01/2008 12:17

Caz, I don't know about going into schools, as you say, but the young mums' group is presumably for those who have already become young mums. I haven't been there but have read stuff on here from women who've had babies young and felt out of place at existing general babies' groups, so I'm in favour of young mums having their own groups if that makes teenagers feel more comfortable accessing the support they can offer.

I guess the hv needs to find people who can talk to the group, I think the issue those who want to set up baby groups face is getting funding to do it, and too often that is in terms of here's a health or social problem and this is a solution.

If your involvement would help the establishment of a group which could offer young mums the social stuff, support etc etc, then if you think you'd enjoy doing that go for it.

Eddas · 17/01/2008 12:31

POTC, email/msn me and i'll try to help

Caz, maybe all she wants is some info on what it's like being a young mum. You wouldn't know unless you've been there. Then it'd be up to you if you wanted to speak in person. My friend works in a secondary school and does the personal health/advice type stuff(not sure what that's called!) she has said it's a great problem where she works(young mums I mean) as their mums all had babies young and they all see it as the way it should be and the way to get a house of their own. I know not all young mums are like that, but she says most of her school think it's an easy way out. So these young girls are trying to get pg at 14+ and have generally loose morals! Some of the stories of what her pupils get up too are I hope you get what I mean, not saying that young people shouldn't have babies. My sil got pg at 14 and her dad made her have an abortion she would've made a great young mum although having said that she still had her first baby at 17 so was still young Bless her. The second time she didn't tell her dad til it was too late to have an abortion My mil said she hadn't realised he couldn't make her have an abortion even at 14 and wishes she'd known as she'd have let her live with her and bil etc Poor thing. Anyway am waffling again but hope YSWIM. I think the young people need rl examples of it working as well as not as you can tell them all about having the baby and it working out, if you've had an troubles because of being a young mum etc. I's imagine it'd be really helpful for the hv to hear even if you don't speak to them yourselves.

Right stopping talking now, think I have verbal diarreah And way is that word so difficult to bloody spell

Pesha · 17/01/2008 12:34

Dont really know spb! I went up and sat on the floor and fed him abit more as he got himself all worked up. He cried abit when I put him down again but is now playing in his cot hoping playing leads to sleeping, it has done a few times in the evening.

Thinking in future I need to tear myself away from MN and take him upstairs straight away for his feed rather than feeding him down here and then carrying him up.

Pesha · 17/01/2008 12:38

Lol Eddas at the waffling. Very about your SIL, I had a friend who was forced by her mum to have an abortion as a young teenager (cant quite remember how old) and it was a late abortion too And then she went on to have a baby at 17 aswell!

Eddas · 17/01/2008 12:43

it is isn't it. From what i've been told, she had to give birth too. This would've been when the legal abortion time was higher and she was even told it was a boy She didn't want to know they told her anyway

She now has 2 boys aged 8 and 9 and I wouldn't put it past her and bil to have more in a few years. They sway from yes to no. If it was a guaranteed girl they'd do it think it's why she was so keen on having dd whilst I work

oooggs · 17/01/2008 12:51

bugger bugger bugger

just been told they plan to build a mental health residentail care home for teenagers up to 18 right next door to nursery. A cat. 4 so the worst going with only a wire fence to divide them I am not against the building or the people, but right next to a day nursery??????????

Company, nursery owners & parents up in arms - arrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh

CaptainDippy · 17/01/2008 14:00

OH NO - Oooggs - I'd be pretty too!!

Hello! Have been at friends all morning so no time to catch up then, but i am here now!! Need to do housework though ...

Pleeeeease tell me that some of you have babies as clingy as P!!!? I can't walk out of her sight for 5 secs before she starts bawling - full-on red face and tears and everything - She goes completely nutso when I drop her off at nursery.

Round-up was absolutely FAB, Pillock - Thank you!!

How are people doing today??

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2008 15:35

yes Dippy, not all the time but this morning he was in the kitchen, not in pen, free to move as I tried to wash up, screaming, tears and snot running down his face, sat flapping his arms in frustration like a little hummingbird He'd just been fed and slept so I can only assume it was clinginess/ play with meeeeeeeeee!

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2008 15:36

otoh we've just come back from the supermarket and he was chatting to me in the car Normally he's asleep or crying, so that was lovely

geordiemacminx · 17/01/2008 15:44

Just popping in while C is asleep.

This wonderful charity here

Maveta · 17/01/2008 19:10

has something weird happened to my mumsnet or has there really been no posts for 2 hours??!

well we´ve had a very quiet and relaxed day but rather nice really. we all feel better for having slept, that much is obvious. N is settled so fingers crossed for a repeat of last night.

went to see a nursery today and it seemed nice enough but will have to see a few more before we decide. what is the ratio of under ones/adult in the uk? Here it is 8/1 and that just seems I mean, how on earth can 1 adult be expected to look after 8 babies? I don´t really understand it. But if that´s the regulation then I guess it´s what I will find all over. After 1 yr and when they can walk they move up to the next class and I really wish I could put him straight in there, the baby room seems fine but it just seems they don´t do much, you know? not like we do much at home, but at least it´s one on one iykwim. He´ll be 11 months when he goes but I think with a little negotiating I´ll get my mum to have him a couple of hours each day i.e. only do 9-12pm instead of 9-2pm until he´s walking.

dh´s mum needs looking after again, don´t know if you remember all the saga but she loses her sight periodically (diabetes related) and when that happens she needs her food made for her and someone to give her injections and other meds. So his sister called him today and said they all need to share this load between the 4 of them equally. which is grand, but it´s not all equal. For a start his younger brother lives with his mum (and pays no rent) but moans at doing any more than his 1/4. His sisters live in the same village, one about 500m away and the other maybe a 4 min drive. They work 9-5 if not less. My dh would have an hour round trip just to get there AND then he has to fit this in between working 10-2 and then school 6-10pm. I just do not understand why they can´t all chip in to pay someone to go and cook her lunch (she doesn´t need to be fed or anything and can go to the loo etc. herself) and give her meds. I would if it was my mum and I know my sisters would aswell. Just because it is more practical. But they won´t even hear of it bloody latin families.

oh I´m just so annoyed. So the two days that I don´t work, when I get to see him a whole 3 hours at lunch time (most of which he is studying anyway) he will now go spend with his mother which trying to look on the bright side might be good for him because he can take his books and study in peace after doing the food and stuff. But it means that Mon-Fri I will see him for about 1 hour in the morning and 30mins at night

I know I´m being very uncharitable and it´s his mum etc. I just needed to rant. And I just can´t help think there´s a more workable solution.

Blah.

Maveta · 17/01/2008 19:13

(no I´ve not finished.. )..

AND when his brother lived on the next island for 2 years and only came back for short weekends once in a blue bloody moon, he didn´t do anything to help. And his other sister couldn´t help for a long time either because her son has had various medical problems that understandably took up a lot of her time. So then it was down to this one sister and my dh. and there was nothing we could do about it. So why can´t they make allowances for him now that he is at night school and has a small baby etc etc?

Grrrrrrrr
