Morning all. We've been burgled .

It could have been a lot worse, they haven't taken the computers or trashed the place, just a number of very small and portable electrical items - two ipods, a set of ipod speakers, a digital radio and a digital camera. Luckily I took my bag including wallet/cards and my mobile up to bed with me last night and those didn't go, nor did dp's laptop despite it being out on the table. The front sash window downstairs was forced, with a cut chord, and left slightly open. The possibilities are that it happened yesterday afternoon and we didn't notice the window or the missing stuff, or that someone got in during the night and took stuff from the entrance to the bedroom just a few feet away from dp's side of the bed and D's cot. Very scary.

What's upsetting me is that someone was able to just get in like that, I feel stupid, and the loss of a couple of things I use a lot and feel lost without. I'd only taken a handful of camera photos since the holiday ones etc and so not many that haven't been downloaded - I often just use the phone camera.

dp's managers have agreed that he can take the day off which is just as well, as I feel very shaken by it all and it means I can take D out of the house today - we should be able to sort out something over windows tomorrow.

We do have contents insurance but I think I'll probably fall foul of their conditions in terms of security.

Octothechildherder · 08/01/2008 10:00

OMG - you poor thing - what a shock - very scary. Hope you are all okay and manage to get the insurance sorted.

CaptainDyson · 08/01/2008 10:00

Loving name change, Octo

Oh, Elkie!!!!! How frightening fory ou - you poor, poor love. {{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}} I would be absolutely petrified if that happened to me. I just thank God nothing bigger was stolen and that you and your precious family are all ok. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Bramshott · 08/01/2008 10:08

Oh Elkie, you poor thing. I must admit one of my worst fears is of being burgled while asleep upstairs.

IDOC - glad you got through the first day - it get's easier from here!

Right, off to do some work, in my lovely new office in our new extension!

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2008 10:18

oh no elkie Hope you do manage to claim on the insurance and are not too unsettled
Pillock, interesting that leaving the porridge in the kitchen worked so well. To save time and washing up do you think you can make it straight in the bin?
T's poos , why do you ask? Usually they're fairly solid, but the one at 4am was banana and apricot porridge related, I'm sure you can imagine!

Octothechildherder · 08/01/2008 10:19

Ernie had a windy chick pea moment last nght!

CaptainDyson · 08/01/2008 10:35

Hello Bramshott - You'll be pleased to know your much belated Secret Santa gift is in the post!!!!!!!

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2008 10:39

octo, sounds interesting!

CaptainDyson · 08/01/2008 10:41

No Octo!! NOT a Windy Chick Pea Moment!! Have you got over the trauma or are you in need of professional help!!?

Octothechildherder · 08/01/2008 10:47

It was smelly and loud and I think after some professional counselling he may just get over it! But I fear being male and all that he actually quite enjoyed it and will spend the next 40 years trying to repeat the experience.

CaptainDyson · 08/01/2008 10:57

Yes, but what about you, love? Are you you ok!?

Octothechildherder · 08/01/2008 11:16

Yes - the blast was quite severe but we have managed to rebuild the nursery wall.

CaptainDyson · 08/01/2008 11:19

That's good - watch out for left-over gasses that might reignite though. Go easy.

Octothechildherder · 08/01/2008 11:20

Do you think I should call British Gas?

I could get it bottled and use it to save money on heating!

CaptainDyson · 08/01/2008 11:25

Do both.

Baby wimpering, need to go ......

"See" you nuttters later!

Octothechildherder · 08/01/2008 11:29

Elkie - thats terrible. Did the police come? An aquaintance got burgled just before christmas and the police wouldn't come out, they just gave her a crime reference number to give to her insurers

POTC have you got my text?

cazboldy · 08/01/2008 11:55

or what i meant to do potc - have you got my text?

Idreamofchocolate · 08/01/2008 12:44

Elkie - how dreadful for you, very scary indeed. It makes me so mad to think of some little b'stards thinking it's OK to break into people's homes, steal precious belongings and scare the shite out of innocent homeowners.

Hi Bramshott {{{waves}}}

Went to Drs, S has infected eczema behind her ear and on her nack so now has anti-bs and Canesten, and has got to go back to the Drs for a check-up next week. Oh and she vom'ed several times over the waiting room carpet....please don't let her have that dreaded vomiting bug.

mammyjo · 08/01/2008 13:54

Hello. Wasnt actually going to come on here today as I just feel like a post miserable stuff lately, but I did have a quick read and wanted to say........

Elkie > to you today. We had our garage burgled a few years ago and it freaked me totally, so I really feel for you with the fact that they came into your home Such a violation. Hope you get things sorted with the insurers. Little fuckers who do this should be lined up and shot with a ball of their own shit.

WestCountryLass · 08/01/2008 13:55

Octo, I am sorry but I can't meet you tomorrow, I forgot I have the dentist at 11.35. Are you free any other time (not tomorrow)? I could meet you next Wed?Thur?

mammyjo · 08/01/2008 13:55

Sorry, just read that back and the last sentence sounds awful. I am so not a joyous person to be around at the moment. Actually did make me smile though. I would never normally speak in such a way

WestCountryLass · 08/01/2008 14:27

Elkiedee, I am really sorry you have been burgled, it is a terrible thing to go through. We were burgled the last time we went to Spain at Christmas, came back and they had taken everything (all electrical items and jewellry etc). My Dad cleared the house up so luckily I did not see the mess they left. Our burglars had a consience, they did not take any of the pressies under the TV or the CD player in our eldests room which was 'nice' of them. Actually for us, it turned out OK, the insurers gave us a credit note to spend at a local shop and we replaced everything brand new. One funny thing was my DH DJ'ed and they took his speakers which were the size of small fridges and the retailer did not have them so they sent them by courier and we had to take the doors off to get the replacements in the house as they were massive!

PS. Don't tell them you might have compromised security! Don't shoot yourself in the foot!
