Hi again. I don't understand Freud and I can't knit. (no offence intended to anyone who can) also, I don't drink coffee. TBH we have been so skint for so long anything we buy has been a massive treat. I give all our old clothes to The Salvation Army to go to people who need them. good on you Bumper, and good luck bumper, jammy & MHC, but it's not for me. (I didn't dare post this on there)

Hi FF - hope we haven't upset you. It's a bit like when I first met my friend whose Dad is a Vicar, I kept wanting to say OMG all the time, and I alway want to crack freemason jokes to my BIL.

x-post

not to mention "the only gay in the village" jokes

I must admit, I couldn't imagine not buying anything except essentials...I wouldn't last five minutes......espeically in a supermarket

Whats coffee got to do with it Ria?

thisisRialifebaby · 02/01/2008 21:31

thanks for the bookswap links though

OP posts:
thisisRialifebaby · 02/01/2008 21:36

Starbucks etc

those places intimidate me, and I can't understand why anyone would want to pay that much money for coffee. If I spent that on a drink I wouldn't be able to afford to buy anything else (and even when I'm working I'm just too tight!)

OP posts:
LittleMissNorty · 02/01/2008 21:37

OH right.....must find that thread and read it....feel like I'm on a parallel universe

thisisRialifebaby · 02/01/2008 21:39

That's one of the sad things about having worked in restaurants and coffee shops (local independant ones!) and helping DH with his work admin - knowing what goes on behind the scenes and how much stuff costs "trade" it really puts you off eating out and stuff.

OP posts:
LittleMissNorty · 02/01/2008 21:41

yeah I can imagine.....rip-off city....esp coffee shops.

I worked in an Italian restaurant in my youth and the spagetti was kept in cold water in the fridge pre-cooked and it was chucked into boiling water before being served.

thisisRialifebaby · 02/01/2008 21:43

bless my DH, he bought me maltesers!

OP posts:
justbeme · 02/01/2008 21:53

OMG in an hour and half theres 60 posts to catch up with - !!!! I'll be back in a mo!!

justbeme · 02/01/2008 22:06

Ohh that didnt take too long!
I hope they only kept the pasta for a day at a time Ria?

Im a tight arse Im afraid!! Would hate to pay for a coffee in Starbucks, dont mind wearing 2nd hand clothes (but they have to be in good nick!),
I often think "wish I knew where that person got rid of their unwanted clothes".
I love a Car Boot Sale me!! But yes, I wouldnt buy 2nd hand bedding/towels/knickers !!/etc.
I went out to the sales today and all I bought was some baby food from Boots! Used my vouchers from their baby club and accidently got double discount so only came to £2 odd instead of £6! So now stocked up on fruit custard things.

sputnik · 02/01/2008 22:13

I have an Italian friend who worked in an Italian restaurant in London, they did that with the pasta there too, but if a real Italian came in they'd cook it fresh. Said the Brits never complained about it

thisisRialifebaby · 02/01/2008 22:17

ooh, car boot sales. Roll on Summer!

We walked on the cliffs today and then popped to Tesco (as we were nearby and it's cheaper/better stocked than the village shop) and I... had a snooze in the car park whilst DH battled through the mad shoppers, DS1 sat in the front taking seriously my "SILENCE COMPETITION" suggestion, DS2 talked at me (I am a bad mother - I can sleep through it) (don't know why that's in CAPS) and DS3 nicely babbled away in his car seat. Bless.

I am hoping for a trip to Whiby this week - excellent charity shops!

Just seen the WW Advert on TV - that is fattist!

the spaghetti was LMN. you DON'T want to now some of the stuff I've seen!

OP posts:
thisisRialifebaby · 02/01/2008 22:20

know, obviously. keyboard really crap since DH moved it in fit of helpfulness.

BTW - make me go to bed before 1am, please!

OP posts:
justbeme · 02/01/2008 22:26

I must admit that Ive never been lucky with charity shops - the thing is Im a 50p an item barganist - so Car Boot sales it is!!
Wish I'd stocked up in the summer now for DD - best buy was a Blooming Marvelous all in one suit (coat) for 50p!

Well DP has finally got some work for 3 days starting tomorrow - he's had no work for about 2/3 weeks (so no money) - never known it like this (Think the reason is the Poles are undercutting prices) - so Im signing off now as Im on Packed Lunch making duty.

Wonder who will get snow tomorrow?? Hope its not in DKMA and Furys directions. Good Luck
xx

thisisRialifebaby · 02/01/2008 22:42

BTW I would just like to say to bumper, jammy & MHC, I'm not taking the piss and I hope I haven't offended you. (and I probably am a spav or whatever it was)

OP posts:
sputnik · 02/01/2008 22:44

When I was home my mum was telling a story about soemone we know (actually my former english teacher) who got a diamond ring in Oxfam for 2.50!
My Mum works 1 day a week in Oxfam and was really pissed off about it.

They got given some expensive jewelry once in their branch, waited to make sure it wasn't a mistake and the person didn't come back, then sold it at a proper price.

Actually I just gave her some jojo and blooming marvelous stuff for oxfam as I wouldn't get much ebaying it in Italy and not worth sending to UK.

thisisRialifebaby · 02/01/2008 22:51

I NEVER get bargains like that, but it was probably for slender fingers!

On the subject of "throwaway society" apparently a woman in the local town collected up all the 1p & 2ps chucked on the street and any other dropped cash - but mainly copper - over a year and kept it in a sealed jar, when she opened it I think she had something like £60 (including a £5 and £10 note). She was donating it to a local vets I believe.

LMN - kiddicare.com are also brill for baby stuff, really good prices and free delivery too.

DS has just done a shit so off to change nappy then go to work.
see y'all later!

milkyJammy · 03/01/2008 07:31

Hi and bye Fury, have a good day

Ria, I'm not offended at all by what you've said about the other thread. In fact, while I thought it was great at first, it's digressed into areas that don't interest me so much, so will keep an eye on it but not sure how much I'll participate. Has made me think about things though.

sputnik · 03/01/2008 10:09

Kiddicare are definitely work a look, I got my Maclaren for 2/3 normal price on there.

Speaking of buggies , Holly hasn't posted for ages, hope she is ok.

milkyJammy · 03/01/2008 10:15

morning Sputnik.

We just got belated Xmas present in the post - M&S vouchers, and realised we haven't spent the ones the same person sent last Xmas! So now we have to decided what to do as we can't let them go indefinitely

FairyFay · 03/01/2008 10:26

Good morning everyone. Dh is back at work today after two weeks off and the law of the sod means that I have woken up feeling terrible, and DD has an awful cough - would I be the worst Mum in the world if I just let DD watch Cbeebies and play in the lounge all day, and DS roll around and play on the floor while I mostly sit on the couch??

sputnik · 03/01/2008 10:30

Can you spend the M&S vouchers on food?

milkyJammy · 03/01/2008 10:32

Not at all FF

Could do Sputnik, but currant thought is stuff for DD
