Excuse me if I've got any of this wrong, as my sleep-deprived brain barely capable of putting this list together! Any amendments please speak now, and we can start the new thread!

Thanks girls. Your words mean a lot to me.

huppa · 03/12/2004 18:46

Toots - glad to hear you at least know what the problem was. I´m quite impressed that your GP spotted the problem - most of them probably have very little idea about breast feeding. If its any consolation my dd cruised along just under the charts for a few weeks and she´s now a bouncing 2 year old. If you can try not to weigh her more than once a week otherwise it can really knock your confidence if you don´t see any gain for a couple of days. If you leave it longer between weighings you usually see an improvement - that was my experience, but I do understand how all consuming the worry over weight can be.

Bellie - you´re a braver woman than me. I find it hard enough to cook for me and dh. The thought of 12 just fills me with dread. Hope it goes well ( and for you too cazzybabs).

Met up this morning with the other women from my antenatal class. It was good to see them again and compare babies, birth experiences etc. Everyone commented on ds´s colour. Unfortunately he´s still jaundiced and we´ve got to go back for more blood tests if he´s still yellow in 2 weeks. I must admit I´ve got used to how he looks and it was only today when I saw the other babies that I realised how yellow he still is. I´m not too worried as doctor said it can take up to 8 weeks for breast fed babies to get over jaundice - mind you he´s now 7 and a half weeks so he better get a move on.

cazzybabs · 03/12/2004 18:51

Got back from a Mumsnet meet-up of which I had a great time but Grace has cried all afternoon (even during walks) and is still fighting sleep.

Huppa hope your ds is getting better - when grace was slighty jaundiced she looked like she had a very expensive san tropiez tan.

biglips · 03/12/2004 21:40

what is the conversation about of "christmas names"?.. im half asleep tonight as ive bought myself a small bottle of wine but cant be bothered opening it zzzzz!. my baba is always talking to herself and she looks like one of the smiley faces (but without teeth) ha! ha! ha!...

had anyone had any strange dreams about the baba? as ive had one dream and one nightmare now since i had baba.. the dream is about when i woke up one morning and the baba had a full set of american white teeth and was talking to me !!! ( my fiance was going on about teething the other day and i dreamt about it), the nightmare was about i came home from a nightout and my babysitter was looking after baba, couldnt find baba and i found her in a cupboard in a plastic see thru wallet but i saved her in time. not a nice dream at all.. as when i wake up from my sleep i do think is she alive? and i check on her and then she is alright but i cant help it..

geogteach · 03/12/2004 21:53

Went to Blue Water with 3 kids this afternoon and still came back with no christmas pressies, why an I suprised? Have total admiration for those of you entertaining tonight, phoned someone earlier to babysit for me next week and ended up inviting her and her man for dinner tomorrow night, am now in a blind panic and she's bringing desert, i'm out of the habit of cooking for grown ups.
Toots sorry to hear about the weight issues, I think you're doing great being so determined, when a similar thing happened with DS1 I just put him on formula because I was told to without really thinking, having had 2 more now realise there was probably a better solution as neither have had any probs with weight gain, being my normal laid back self don't even have any bottles or formula in the house.

Bellie · 05/12/2004 15:40

cooking went Ok - the house has only just returned to normal though now! DD was a bit freaked by all the noise of 12 adults and 5 other babies though - she was awake throughout but completely quiet! She then slept for 9 hours that night though!
Today she is not sleeping during the day - she will go down for a nap sleep for about 10 minutes then wake up screaming - I think she may have some colic as her legs are permanently pulled up and there is lots of wind!

Distracted · 06/12/2004 15:01

Took me a while to find the new home for this thread! Got a dodgy internet connection at the mo' too, so haven't logged on much.

Toots - good luck with the weight gain and well done for sticking with it.

Cazzybabs - know what you mean about high pitched crying that threatens to break windows, my first dd was like that Grin Ds doesn't have quite such a loud voice as she did, which is nice, although was doing that horrible crying just a minute ago that sounds almost like they're trying to make themselves sick Sad Think he's over-tired, it's nearly 3 pm and he's only had two 20 minutes naps so far today (would usually have had 2-3 hours by now).

Ds seems to be eating less - having switched to formula at 3 weeks I've been keeping an eye on how much he eats and the amount went up from 3-4 weeks and then stayed the same (was expecting a 6 week growth spurt). In the last week or so it has actually reduced back down to the level he was eating at 3 weeks as he's drinking less (he's now 8 weeks +2)! Very strange.

huppa · 06/12/2004 18:33

hi - It´s also taken me a while to find the thread again.

Bellie -glad to hear the cooking went well.

Geogteach - Bluewater with 3 kids - are you mad?

Distracted - good to hear from you again.

We had a quiet weekend, but did manage to visit a Christmas market. Dh loves standing around in the cold drinking a mulled wine, while I just stand there thinking god it´s freezing when can we go home.
Other than that things going o.k although hospital phoned on Saturday to say there was a problem with one of ds´s blood results. Apologised profusely that they were 7 weeks late letting us know and that we should repeat the test again, so poor ds had to have blood squeezed out of his heel again and we have to wait 3 days for the results. Trying not to get too worried as doctor seemed to think it was most likely a false positive last time round.
Hope everyone else had a good weekend.

cazzybabs · 06/12/2004 18:44

Huppa - 7 weeks to tell you thats not good, but I am sure it will be a false alarm. Am thinking of you and your baby.

florenceuk · 06/12/2004 20:53

Huppa, cross fingers hope the test results come out fine.

DD has been very unsettled these last few days (even more than normal) - waking up 10 minutes after being put down in her cot in a seemingly deep sleep, and only really sleeping for long periods if in the sling or being held - won't sleep in the buggy either, wakes after 20min or less. So our day goes, feed for 1hr, 15 min of calm, sooth to sleep, wake up after 20min, sooth to sleep, wake up, feed. Repeat, repeat. So much for advice to put your baby down when they are tired but awake - this just results in mammoth scream sessions. On the plus side, after screaming on and off all day until 10pm last night, slept until 4.30am - so she seems to be developing some sort of day-night pattern, it's just that the days are terrible...

BTW very impressed with those of you who are entertaining - I can only manage takeaway pizza!

OP posts:
Bellie · 06/12/2004 22:01

Oh - took me ages to find this too!
Huppa hope the results are fine.

dd is in the habit of not sleeping from about 5pm through to 11 - so no way that me & dh can have dinner together but I guess as she sleeps through the night I am not going to complain! However I do know what you mean florence about not being able to settle them - dd doens't go down unless fully asleep in arms first and then it can be touch and go!
Is Bean OK? Not heard from her for a couple of days??

Distracted · 07/12/2004 13:26

Oh Huppa I do hope it's a false positive - terrible not to let you know for so long. Your poor ds having to go through the heel prick again - think it's the most distressing thing they have, much more so than vaccinations Sad

Like Florence says - the entertaining is very impressive Smile We've had various visitors and they've all just been given shop bought pizzas and salads so far, even though I would normally enjoy cooking.

Florence - we had a v. unsettled day yesterday too. Ds goes in his cot easily first thing in the morning and then after that each time he falls asleep, if I put him in his cot he wakes up again very quickly. Thinking back over past week, I think all his long sleeps have always been in the car seat and never in his cot. In the buggy he will only sleep if it's constantly moving as well.

geogteach · 09/12/2004 11:30

Quiet round here at the moment, everyone getting ready for Christmas? Not avoiding the issue like me then!
Thought of you all on Tuesday when we met up and in true meece fashion stuffed ourselves! DD thinks christmas has come early with all those leftovers!

huppa · 09/12/2004 11:44

Very quiet indeed. Hope you all enjoyed the meet up. I would really love to have been there and put faces to names.

Geogteach - I´m still in denial about Christmas. I think it will end up being gift vouchers all round (except the kids) this year.

Not much change here. DS has managed a couple of 4 hour sleeps recently, but then follows up with a 2 hour sleep so not any improvement on two 3 hour stretches.

Bellie - how´s the feeding going? Have you managed to cut down on the length of time it was taking?

Toots · 09/12/2004 12:55

geogteach thanks so much for having us. it was great. really nice to meet you bellie. hope you got home before madam got hungry. dd2 has a cold and just wants to snot up on my boobies. nice.

florenceuk · 09/12/2004 14:10

Hi everyone

Thanks Geogteach for hosting the meet-up - lovely to see you, Toots, and Beansprout again, and to meet Bellie! The babies were all very well behaved, unlike mine when she's at home. They are all extremely cute in that balding newborn sort of way.

Had our 8wk check yesterday and DD is growing fine, now about 4.5kg - just under 10lb. Screamed all the way through the examination though - particularly hated being measured! I think she was tired as she'd been doing that sleep for 30min, wake up and wail business all morning - so frustrating when all you want is a cup of coffee in Starbucks and your baby's eyes pop wide open just when you thought she was down and out. Then it's a case of gulp down and leave - even though you know that by the time you've walked home she'll have gone off again. DD also went back to sleeping 12-4-7 last night, just when I was getting used to her going a wee bit longer...

Hope everyone else is getting a bit more sleep!

Anyone else's DB always sick after a bath (which he loves)? Have to admit that today was the first time i'd bathed him (DH does baths in this house) but i'm left scrabbling for something to wear to DS1 parents evening!

Bellie · 09/12/2004 21:01

Hi all - thanks too Geogteach for hosting it was lovely to meet you all. In true style dd slept all the way home and then fed like she has never fed before - and then threw it all back up over me!! That'll teach me to let her sleep!

Her feeding is getting slightly better - not sure if down to her just getting used to it or whether the oesteopath has made a difference - but whichever it is better.

DD has never been sick after the bath so cant really help geogteach

Toots · 10/12/2004 20:47

dd2 was sick all over ds both before her bath, and slob that i am, i'm still in that jumper Smile

glad dd's gaining well florence. sorry that you and huppa are getting shorter chunks of sleep.

geogteach · 11/12/2004 10:21

Parents evening was a disaster, DS2 was sleeping so soundly didn't want to disturb him so left him with the babysitter thinking I wouldn't be long. My appointment was at 8 and at 8.30 when we still hadn't been seen babysitter phoned to say he was wailing to be fed so I went home and DH stayed and caged a lift home off some parent he'd never met before!
Yestady DS1 made his theatrical debut as one of the 3 kings, he doesn't understand the idea of an introduction so we were treated to a few solos from him as he started singing before the rest of the cast, bless!
Another toddler christmas do to look forwad to this afternoon so i'd better go and get dressed!

rickman · 11/12/2004 10:57

Hi Everyone

Haven't been online much as I've been moving into my new house. It is nice to have a bit of space but very strange getting used to being on my own with the children.

I had the most horrendous night last night, dd1 and dd2 started being sick at about 11 o'clock and it went on all night long. Ds2 was screaming to start with and I just didn't know who to deal with first. I am totally shattered after no sleep and they are still being sick this morning. I'm really worried that ds2 might come down with it as ds1 had it earlier in the week so it is obviously catching. What do you do if a baby gets a bug?

Ds2 has been a bit snuffly the past week but seems to be coping ok. I had him weighed yesterday and he is now 10 lb 15 oz.

Still got loads to sort out here and christmas shopping to get, can't see me being ready in a fortnight some how.

cazzybabs · 11/12/2004 11:39

oh god rickman what a nightmare - hope your girls are better soon.

DD2 is growing fast and doing more crying. She is either smiling and laughing or screaming or asleep. There is no middle ground with her. Am still fat - prehaps due to the port and wine craving I have. Ohhh most excitingly have bought a new pushchair!

huppa · 12/12/2004 13:52

Rickman - hope your dds are feeling better - you must be feeling knackered.

Ds blood results came back fine, so we can relax a bit now although he is still yellow, so might need another blood test next week. I´m not too worried as he´s putting on weight fine - he´s already outgrown some of dd´s clothes that she wore for the first few months.

Hope everyone´s having a good weekend and not getting too stressed with Christmas shopping. All the shops here (Germany) are closed on Sundays, so that is really the perfect excuse to stay at home with your feet up.

Bellie · 13/12/2004 18:56

Huppa really pleased to hear that ds results were fine - it must be a load off your mind.
I thought that you had lots of Christmas markets in Germany which meant that it was a pleasure to shop?? Grin

I have managed to do most of my shopping via the internet, but as I have been declared fit to drive at my 6 week check today I am off to the shops for the rest of the week!!

geogteach · 13/12/2004 20:01

Congratulations Bellie! Maybe you fancy a coffee now it won't involve an hour's walk each way?!
DS2 did 6 hours last night (hope i'm not tempting fate by writing it down!
