geogteach · 29/11/2004 16:36

Turtle you are more than welcome. As for the colds the consultant I saw at the hospital today was very matter of fact that if they have older siblings or mix with other kids they will get ill! For those of you who have your first DB if you don't want to mix with my snotty ones I do understand (only DS2 will be here). For more precise location details contact me through CAT. There is another thread for the meetup in the meetups section.

geogteach · 30/11/2004 12:44

Well I got to stay in bed until 10.30 this morning, how fab is that! (DS2 was there too but its the principle that counts).
As far as my germ ridden house goes, I was told to expect the lurgy to last 10 days which means we should be over it in time for the meet up, but will keep you posted.
Anyone heard from bean, she hasn't been on here or replied to an email I sent on Friday?

Toots · 30/11/2004 14:10

Hi all

Bean has phone line issues.

beansprout · 30/11/2004 15:27

Hi everyone. Stupid phone not working at home so have not been able to log on. Am at my mum's for a couple of days, so can log on now - hurrah!! Geogteach - will check the e-mail in a mo.

Ok here. Bean settling into something approaching a routine(ish), so the difficult bits are at least becoming predictable, which makes them feel not quite so bad.

Only problem with being at parents is that I have a severe cat allergy and they have 2 of the damn things... off to see if I can find a thread on breastfeeding and antihistamines...!

cazzybabs · 30/11/2004 16:19

Hope evyerone is OK. Beansprout hope your parents are looking after you and that the cat thing isn't to bad.

I am looking a milky sick on my new sofa and dp was not impressed with me when I squirted him with breastmilk at 5 this morning (by accident trying to feed dd2). And am well cross - am looking into a new pushchair (when aren't I - I know have a prefectly good one but it does look rubbish and is slighly the worse for wear! - I keep hoping I'll lose/break/get it stolen - but sadly not) and have deciided to go very expensive and am craving a mountain buggy - and have found the sell at half the price in the USA as to the UK but no-one will ship to the UK so Ispend my days trying to find someone to ship on the UK (but suspect mountain buggy UK will not like this - its a comspricy). OHH and have just finished the Di Vinci code - dead good and I recommened it for late night breast feeding sessions! but it did mean I missed baby singing today as I wanted to find out who did it!

Turtle35 · 30/11/2004 17:02

Cazzybabs I am so impressed you can read and breastfeed at the same time, I guess it comes with a bit of co-ordination and skill, I feel like I need 3 arms/hands to b/f my DD, when she decides to squirm at 3.00 am, I am terrified of dropping her She acts a bit like a wild animal when hungry with her mouth chomping at the bit - it's actually very cute.

I still have this damn shooting pain in both breasts and I think it's still thrush I can't seem to get rid of. Grrr, very very painful, I resorted to two bottles of forumula this am as I couldn't face the pain, am seeing GP tomorrow to demand further help.

Anyone know if you can take the oral pill called Diflucan when B/F? I have mixed advice on that.

Geogteach, I am really keen to meet up and am sure the infectious part of the cold will be gone by then? hope so....

Bellie · 30/11/2004 18:08

Hi all - sounds like good days all round then??
Am settling into a bit of routine with dd - although subject to change by her ladyship when she feels like it .
It is the rest of the house that is giving me grief! In the space of the last 10 days the heating has broken down (now fixed) my washing machine blew up (now have new one) and yesterday my induction hob literally went bang and now is refusing to work (engineer coming on Thursday). Hopefully as they say things come in 3's and I have had my run now!!
Looking forward to next week and meeting you all

geogteach · 30/11/2004 19:37

Cazzybabs, don't know about mountain buggy but I shipped an E3 fron the USA if that is any good I can give you details. Don't forget to factor tax into the price, the bill comes later!
Just got interupted to rescue DH as DS had puked all over him anyone elses baby always sick after a bath?
Bean I know you can take piriton while breastfeeding, don't suppose i'll be needing it for breast fedding this time round!
Turtle not sure about the pill but a couple of weeks ago I was prescribed the same thing as a gel to put in DS mouth and on my nipples.
Bellie I sympathise our microwave has packed up and some git smashed my wing mirror this afternoon, serves me right for sitting around with other mums drinking tea and eating doughnuts

hi there. im a new one to join on your list. im 30 yrs of age and my baba was born on 01/10. i managed to read from the beginning, its interesting to read as i feel close to you all as everyones babies was born around the same time as mine as we are all going thru the same thing more or less. (im first time mum by the way).

ive got a few things to tell yous lot about my experience. Tonight im very tired as i did a mistake yesterday as baba slept from monday 1am -monday 12pm, slept on and off yesterday but baba didnt settle until 4am this morning! which crippled me as baba was smiling and cooing. (i was punishing myself for that mistake- never again). ive got a hungry baby so ive put baba on white SMA since last night (but she seems more hungry than the Gold!!) so let see if thats worked, at the mo she is on average 6 - 8oz (every 4 hours average but she wants alot of it). i always make sure i give her a good feed about midnite and even if she doesnt really wants it, make sure she take it (more or less force it) then she will settle thru the night... im going now as giving baba her big feed

huppa · 01/12/2004 11:07

Welcome biglips and your hungry baby.

Good to here from you again Rickman. I´m sure everyone would be a bit worried about coping in your situation. You´ve done brilliantly up to now, so I´m sure you´ll manage somehow. I can´t offer much advice about the vaccinations because I´m in Germany and they have a 6 in 1 injection here. DD had this with no problems so ds will have this aswell.

I´m very impressed by everyone who´s managing to get some sort of routine going. It´s not happening here, but ds is still sleeping lots, so I´m too worried yet. Mind you he does have the odd 3 hour screaming session every few days just to keep me on my toes.

Planned to be really good this week and cut back on the chocolate and cake, but have been thwarted by others good intentions. Monday a friend came round with homemade biscuits, yesterday dd went to a party and I got given a great plate of cake to bring home, today a family friend popped round with a cake she baked for us and tomorrow another friend has invited us to try out her new waffle machine. I think I just abandon any hopes of losing more weight until after Christmas. Mind you there are worse things in life than stuffing your face .

biglips · 01/12/2004 11:31

about the 5 in 1 injections - my midwife came this morning about the injections that my baba is gonna have next week. i have been given a booklet all about it and also the triple injection for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR). 5 in 1 injections - baba have one next week and then another in 4 wks and another again 4 wks after that (total 3 injections). triple injection - is for babas 13 months old, i mentioned that i didnt wants a triple injection as it may give the child autism (remember it was on the TV all last year?), midwife reassure me that was loads of rubbish as the man who started off the rumour is now in USA and is a conman as he is making money for people to have it a single injection for each one (you have to pay for the single injection) but only for one of them as you cannot have a single injection for mumps and measles as they dont have it and the conman had no evidence that the triple one caused autism. i will read the booklet more and let you know later.

florenceuk · 01/12/2004 12:28

Hi

DD sleeping so time for a quick catch up! Welcome to Biglips and baby!

Bean and Turtle, this site has lots of info about what is safe during BF and indeed, lots of other stuff on BF: kellymom

Cazzybabs, you can order Mountain Buggies direct from NZ - I got mine through Winkalotts . Funnily enough the E3 is more expensive in NZ than the MB whereas here it is the other way round?? I think the E3 is best if you value the tandem aspect and the more compact fold, but the MB urban is great to push and very stable and strong.

Turtle, sorry to hear about the thrush - hope you find some answers.

BTW does anybody else feed lying down at night? Very restful esp if your baby like mine is feeding 3-hrly, which is just so much more exhausting than 4-hrly. I am very envious of those whose babies seem to be sleeping for longer. DD also refused to settle in the cot, every time she went in she woke up - so back to lying on Mummy. One reason I keep track of the time is that I try not to feed 2-hrly - but with the length of time she was on last night it was almost continuous anyway...the prospect of some sort of routine seems very distant at the moment.

Geogteach, will email you re the meet-up - as I may have managed to offload DS...

Welcome Biglips!

The big news here is that I bought a "Baby Soother" tape, which plays a weird white noise sort of sound but boy, does it settle the Bean (if he is fed, clean etc). Feels a bit spooky to see him stop crying when nothing else has worked but am not using it too often. Am reminded of the Jon Ronson "Men who stare at goats" stuff, so we refer to it as the "psy-ops" tape. Have to make this the strongest recommendation since Turtle started the stampede on v-cushions...!

geogteach · 01/12/2004 14:00

Florence we sound very similar, feed lying down fairly frequently and don't especially like the cot! Have to say my others were the same.
Does anyone else use a sleeping bag? I've tried a couple of times with DS2 but it hasn't made much difference, with the other 2 they both slept better when I introduced it, maybe he is too young.
About to brave the shops, first time me and DS2 have been shopping alone together! I figure if I don't do something about christmas soon it'll be too late to bother.

biglips · 01/12/2004 17:35

what does anyone thinks of the triple test?, as ive got a year to think about it though, and another new news to me from the midwife (a silly one)that im supposed to be waking my baba up every 4 hours for her feeds !!!!!!!!!!! WHAT and wait till her little belly explode (i dont think so!) as i feed her whenever she is hungry.

biglips · 02/12/2004 01:49

just one more msg then bed (I had an hour sleep B 4). does anyone's baba sneezed alot as mine does - 3 in one go and often. she had been like that since she was 2 days old.

Bellie · 02/12/2004 10:12

Hi and welcome to biglips!
biglips - yes dd sneezes a lot - it makes me laugh as she always looks so surprised! She hiccups lots too which is very cute although does disrupt sleep and feeding!

geogteach · 02/12/2004 10:27

Take a look at the meet up thread if you are coming.
I think DS is feeling better, took him with me to a restaurant last night, stayed awake the whole time and was still up in the night. Now having walked DS1 to pre-school (i'm very proud of that!), DD has gone back to bed ( at 9.30?) and DS2 still wants feeding.

huppa · 02/12/2004 18:53

Are any of us going to be inspired enough to come up with Christmas names? Lack of sleep seems to have deprived me of any imagination.

Had a good day today - visited a friend and spent the afternoon eating waffles while our 2 dds danced to Christmas songs.

Florence - really sympathise with the 3 hourly feeding. I`d swear ds has an in built alarm clock except he sometimes goes a shorter time between feeds - but never longer.

geogteach - glad ds is on the mend.

cazzybabs · 02/12/2004 18:59

Grace has caught dd1 cold and is expelling torrents of snot - poor baby! I saw a new born today - it reminds my how quickly she has grown. She has been doing more crying recently and has got a high pitched cry which is enough to break windows. DD1 still loves her and tries to bring her toys when she is crying.

Toots · 02/12/2004 20:28

Huppa I think your life of cake sounds tremendous

Have been through the wringer a bit with dd2s weight last couple of days. Basically she hadn't turned a corner at all. Had lost an oz this week and fallen off the chart completely .
All getting under control now, I'm hoping. GP could see problem with latch - lower lip not flanged out (does anyone remember me talking flippantly about flipping it out for her? Well I should have carried on, or not let that start in the first place it would seem). So that's had a huge effect on how much my supply has been stimulated. Had visit from lovely La Leche league councillor today, a real force for good. She was really encouraging and chilled and made me feel relaxed and regain a bit of confidence, sorting out all the positioning stuff. GP very firm I should supplement for now as dd2 needs to gain weight fast, but I'm going to bf lots to stimulate supply as well. Have been so stressed and head has been whirling in a roller coaster stylee.

florenceuk · 02/12/2004 21:23

Toots lots of hugs - hopefully things will get better soon. I remember DS went through a stage of thrashing around and not feeding during the day at about 3 mths and plummeted through the charts - I was so incredibly stressed and felt a complete failure, so I can really sympathise with you on this.

Mmm - according to my book now is the time when DD should be having at least one longer period of sleep at night - not sure it's really happening yet!

OP posts:
Bellie · 03/12/2004 13:16
