Nice here eh? Seven is a lovely magic number.

DD has horrible cough off DH. They are both hacking away like nanny goats so our house is rather noisy and I s'pose I'll have to get it too, sooner or later. A real workout for the immune system at 6 months anyway.

Think maybe my purees were a little bit lumpy for DD. She really went for the bought stuff I gave her today, and I was quite reassured. Anyone actually tried the Hipp apple and blueberry? So tasty I could have it on toast , no probs.

Georgina hope your hands, feet and mouths are OK.

Twiglett you are a rascal... sleeping through eh? what on earth is she thinking of?

Think I would rather miss my little overnight fixes of DD if she didn't remind me of her presence every 3 hours or so.

Sus - is it Aquababies you are doing? we did it with dd until she was a year old (and we ran out of money for it!) We've got a fab underwater photo of her - blew it up and mounted it on four raised squares. Sadly ds won't get the chance to do it, but I can remember most of what went on so do try and do some stuff at the local pool.

Can't wait until next week when we get to the shortest day and start on the way back up to daylight again! Really feeling quite rubbish at the moment and am sure that the dark afternoons cannot be helping at all.

DS being gorgeous at the moment. Sitting up very well - even have him upright and unsupported in the bath now. He whizzes forward on his bottom until he crashes his feet into dd and splashes her.

Cat82 - GF's website is up and running = contentedbaby.com You have to pay £40 to join the "community" though and get access to anything worthwhile!

SantasLittleEgypt · 13/12/2004 16:23

we have aquababes, and would love to try it. didnt dare dunk dd in when we went to the pool. am intrigued by the whole idea, but scared too!

took dd for her hearing and developmental check today. we were invited by letter. half way through the hv said, so is she waving bye bye and playing pat-a-cake yet? what?? ! no, bit early isnt it? 'how old is she?' ermm...6 1/2 months. she then realised that they'd sent the letter out too early. der. she passed the hearing test superbly and managed to do the sit, grab cubes, pass from hand to hand, just couldnt manage the pincer grip on the raisin. picked it up though. bless

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 13/12/2004 16:29

DS's swimming teacher says the best thing you can do for a baby is make sure they don't mind about getting their head wet when in the bath .. eg every bathtime dribble some water on their heads .. both of mine get their hair washed by throwing a cup of water over their heads till the bubbles go Grin ... DS took to swimming like a duck to water at the grand old age of 3.6 Grin

SantasLittleEgypt · 13/12/2004 18:49

good. dd doesnt mind a sponge squirted over her head.

tried mum giving dd a bottle and putting her to bed tonight, in prep for prague. took bottle fine. screamed at bed though. badly. i bf her. think we are going to have to practise. she hasnt had a bottle at bed since she was about 3 months. obv cant remember it!

Starofbethlibbhem · 13/12/2004 19:29

Egpyt, our health centre did exactly the same to us! Poor old DP took the day off to take him and was told to come back another day - still feel annoyed about it . . . it was only because they thought he was a little small for his "age" that it was noticed.

I will take him in the new year and he will be nigh on 8 months by then. Belts and braces don't you know?!

jinglespots · 13/12/2004 20:40

Hello Libb, are you better? did you go to the meet up?

ChristmasBOOZA · 14/12/2004 09:19

Twiglett about your DS's swimming. When my DS was a baby we used to do that. I used to throw a cup of water in his face and he thought it was the funniest thing ever and I took him to the baths from 12 weeks. But its all gone wrong somewhere and he screams about having his hair washed and is not at all confident at his swimming lessons. DD OTOH loves her bath and just sits there and blinks her beautiful long eye lashes when she is soaked. Took them both swimming on Friday and she made DS cry by splashing him.....

DD has been quite unsettled at night because she's got another cold. I'm still not better from the last one she gave me. But I went out on Thursday and Sunday and DH put both children to bed and gave DD a bottle and she was fine with it - and so was DH. So that was a big relief. Went on a Mums and Toddlers night out to an Abba tribute band (and dinner and disco) on Sunday and drunk loads and also quite a bit of water (because of cough) but was soooo tired yesterday.

Think thats enough of me rambling - time to do some work.

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 14/12/2004 13:00

lucas is very strange lately!
he normally goes to bed so easy! just the last few days every time i put him down he cries and cries - and we both know he is tired!
it's hard to stay away and not go and soothe him!
yday evening he cried for good 30min! told dp to sit on my lap so i can't get up
just now he cried for 15min but he seems to be asleep now - very hard! but oh well, he needs his sleep!

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 14/12/2004 13:07

yesyesyes spots! he remembered - well daytime anyways! he does it over and over again - that's his way now to cross the room!!!

G: daytime sleeping is hard atm! he fought going to sleep yday evening but in the end slept through till 7am - only once cried out 4ish but he didn't even wake up. - could be tummy pain though! how could i tell???

judd: yes, aquababes! it really is fun!

egypt: you've got a really cute reindeer there

SantasLittleEgypt · 14/12/2004 13:13

it is hard. dd did an hour of crying last night

shepherdswatchtheircatsbynight · 14/12/2004 13:21

Helloooooo everyone

ahem Prufrock, if i remember correctly, twas you who ordered those cocktails!! Sorry about your head, the next day though! I had a really nice time btw, would like to do it again some time.

Libb- You were missed!

Susi- Hope Lucas starts going down easily again. Kiera woke up in tears for the first time in months the other night, but when i went to her and gave her some calgel she drifted back of again. She must be getting teeth by now!

Egypt and Twiglett- i love taking kiera swimming, but i haven't had the courage to dunk her yet....dp wants to desperatly, but i am waaaay to scared. May join a club like you two for back up! We bought her a little seat for swimming and are going to try it out on saturday.

Judd- £40?! As much i idolise Gina i'm not sure she's worth that ....Though i must admit, i am slightly tempted.....

Egypt- Awwwwww! how sweeeet! I wanted to get an outfit like that, but dp would let me
However, we did decide to do get her a special outfit, and my 7 month old baby is now the proud owner of a designer dress I don't even have a designer dress!!!!! It is beautiful though. I tried it on her yesterday, and i actualy had tears in my eyes, she looked absolutly gorgeous (will post piccies soon)

We have a forest in our sitting room Very, very pleased with our tree this year, dp did well. Even if we did have to rearrange the entire living room to accomadate it We haven't really got that many decorations up this year though, just some lights on a tree outside and in our front window + tree and a small wreath inside. Does look lovely though, i LOVE christmas

Kiera has regressed to only eating jars again
sigh She's refused the normaly reliable potato, sweetcorn and chicken for 2 days running now But will chomp on jars (even with lumps) quite happily. Ahhh well, back to the kitchen.....

Hope everyone is okay!

xxxx

ChristmasBOOZA · 14/12/2004 13:52

LOL about the forest. Its the first year we haven't got a forest and have gone for a slightly more moderate tree. DS and I decorated it and there was a high concentration of non-breakable ornaments at front left bottom. until I redistributed slightly after he went to bed.

DD has decided that she's not that keen on sitting up any more and would prefer to stand. To get her to sit down you have to rugby chop her. She loves standing holding onto something but is not quite reliable. She's also really taken to her door bouncer just recently. She had mashed meatloaf, jacket potato, brocolli and peas last night - was very impressed with her. Problem is though that now her food is getting drier but she will still not really take water. Any tips? Was considering starting to give her morning milk (ie 10.30 am ish) in a cup to get her used to cups.

prufRockingAroundtheXmasTree · 14/12/2004 15:22

ahem you took us to Henrys. That woudl eb Henrys, the cocktail bar.....

shepherdswatchtheircatsbynight · 14/12/2004 15:27

She rolled!!!!!! I left her on her back and went to make her milk, when i came back she was on her front

She went from front to back as well earlier, but i think that was just an overbabalnce.

Sooooooooo pleased!!

GeorginaAdventCalendar · 14/12/2004 15:35

It's obviously a day for firsts... ds2 stayed sat up when I let go today, albeit a bit wobbly! Of course, he fell over when I went to get the camera...

... and for better of for worse have finally organised a cleaner. Not sure if I'm doing the right thing or not - I'm sure there's better things to spend the money on, but the house is really getting me down. Feel so relieved that from 7th Jan going to have an effort free house clean!

ChristmasBOOZA · 14/12/2004 15:46

Oooh Georgina I'm so . Would love a cleaner but DH not to be persuaded. Funny I seem to be using a lot at the moment.

GeorginaAdventCalendar · 14/12/2004 16:17

Well I've had to rejig the finances somewhat to get it! If we eat loads at Christmas and live off our body reserves for a while we should be fine

Seriously though, I do feel a bit horribly lazy getting a cleaner when I don't work, but the house was getting me so down and it was creating arguments between me and dh I think I just need to even if only for 6 months or so until things get a little easier. Done a huge budget rethink in time for the New Year and my resolution is to pay a bit more attention and try and reduce impulse purchases a bit more.

ChristmasBOOZA · 14/12/2004 16:22

I know the feeling Georgina but DH can be a bit stuck in his ways. And to be fair he does do some of the cleaning. I think its getting to me more at the moment because of the run up to Christmas.

SantasLittleEgypt · 14/12/2004 16:47

COR! [jealous] cleaners

i'd never be able to justify it to dh. well done georgina though.

we have a little bum shuffler for sure. she has moved only maybe a foot, but definite a bum shuffler on the up and coming.

you sound like you had a great night out.

my parents have left after being here 4 nights. dad seems much better but still on painkillers. now fil is staying tonight....then dh's friend and his gf at the w/e........gawd

dd just having a nap. bit late really but she cant go through the day without 2. going to be too awake to sleep at 7 i'm sure. never mind, fil can keep her amused much to his delight i am sure.

finally finished xmas shopping . phhheeeewwwww. just waiting for dad's golf driver to arrive from ebay. also the b&w piccies of dd for everyone. daren't post these mind. not sure what to do. wil wait until i see my parents just after christmas day to give them theirs but may not see inlaws for a bit on dh's father's side so might have to trust royal mail. they are 8x6 prints on card. should be ok i guess if special delivery.

feel i should get cooking again. did do a load of cauli and carrot and squash today but it was just that. boring. need to do an annabel again soon. poor dd. she much prefers jars too cat. dont have any in at the mo though, except half a jar of rice pudding. ooo, tried weetabix for brekkie and we like .... also banana. goodo

ChristmasBOOZA · 14/12/2004 16:53

You must be a real hostess Egypt! All these people in and out of your house. Think DD might bum shuffle if she can't manage to cruise (which is what she'd really like) because she's very unimpressed with crawling/rolling etc.
(see I told you) that you've done your shopping. I'm beginning to feel quite stressed at the moment. Have got a sick headache and been to sit in the toilets with my eyes closed for ten minutes. Really just want to go to bed when I've got the kids off but won't be able to sleep for thinking about all the jobs that need doing. Think it would be sensible to ask my boss if I can reclaim one of the leave days I was carrying over to next year and take a day off, send the kids to nursery and get on top of things.

GeorginaAdventCalendar · 14/12/2004 17:27

It does help that I don't have to justify it to my dh ... I get my monthly allowance and out of that comes food shopping, kids activities, household stuff, my 'fun' money... what I do with it is up to me really. Dh then deals with house & car stuff/bills. It works, sort of.

Gawd... I sound horribly like I'm trying to justify it now, doesn't it?! Hope I'm doing the right thing!!

Bit stressed about the christmas shopping thing though ... done all of it technically but waiting for 3 things from amazon - all of which I ordered a couple of weeks ago with a "dispatch in 24hrs" on them... they're now showing as delivery estimated 21st December... going to cut it a bit fine - fortunately none of them is for posting on or I'd have been even more pissed off

Food wise is a bit topsy turvy here... ds2's appetite is nil at the moment except for sweet cold things. A mix of his cold + teething I think. At least I hope so...

kbaby · 14/12/2004 20:15

ARGHHHHHHH.....SCREAM SHOUT PEED OFF ICON

I am knackered. The kbaby household isnt getting much sleep lately. DD has had a grouchy weekend and has been waking every 2hrs, not even for food though. DP and I arent talking because I was fed up of him moaning about being tired and coming home from work and laying on the settee watching TV while I clean up after him and get DD's stuff for the next day. He buggars off to work at 7.30 and leaves me trying to look after DD and get ready for work myself, open the curtains put breakfast bowls away etc and then in the evening he gets home at 7 by which time ive fed dd and got her ready for her bath, got all her food and bottles ready and then if I ask him to do something im nagging. Last night I told him that for 3 nights I would sleep in the spare room and see to DD all night until Thursday. This would hopefully give him time to get some sleep and stop bloody moaning. Tonight and tomorrow hes out with work anyway so he wouldve been too drunk to look after DD. I bet dispite how tired he makes out he is he wont be home until early hours. Last night DD woke up 5 times between 10-12 and then 2+4 am after cuddling her to sleep for 20 minues at 12 I laid her in the cot for her to start screaming again. I must admit at that point I was frustrated and just wanted to cry. In the end I left her cry in the cot and came downstairs and got a drink for 5 minutes for a break and to calm down. She is the most adorable baby I know but I just wish she would sleep better. I cant understand why she wakes so much at night as she goes to sleep on her own in the evening so I know that it cant be any sleep associations. Unless even though shes ok in the evening she does need comforting and cuddling at night. I dont know its all very confusing.

kbaby · 14/12/2004 20:37

ok now I got that all off my chest i feel better.

Glad everyones well. Egypt we bought exactly the same suit. Its gorgeous and your piccie looked lovely.

I must take DD swimming again. Shes likes the water but doesnt like getting it on her face but then im the same. Im the person you see in the pool swimming with their head and neck completely above water. Im sure it stems from my brother trying to dunk me in the pool when I was younger.

Were ok on the food front. DD seems to like everything. She makes it known when shes fed up of dinner though and wants dessert. Did a big batch of cooking at the weekend. Did pork and apple, pork casserole, chicken and parsnip, chicken and cheesy leek and also fish with creamy orange sauce. In the evenings then we have pasta, veg or rice etc.

ChristmasBOOZA · 14/12/2004 20:44

Georgina don't try to justify - you've worked it out and decided its best for you so go for it. Like you said you can always re-assess. Sorry if I made you feel like that - I'm just having a bit of a bad time at the moment. And I've got an Amazon order in the pipeline as well....

Kbaby thats part of my problem with DD. She goes to bed awake really well. But if she wakes up in the night expects a breast feed - but it might be 11 pm or 4 am so cannot believe it is down to hunger. Keep meaning to put a stop to it but since she started nursery on 26 October she's had 3 colds and 2 tummy bugs and I've caught 2 of the colds and 1 of the tummy bugs so there has never been a suitable time.

Judd · 14/12/2004 21:14

KBaby - there's a Victoria Wood line about women swimming with their heads right out of the water - she says it's so they don't get their cigarette damp
GeorginaA - I would love a cleaner but have no money for one. So I run round like an idiot every evening doing as much as I can...then it annoys me that DH has a higher tolerance to filth and therefore does nothing unless asked.
DS has had a cold and is very wheezy in its aftermath. I was on my own last night and got woken 3 times by DS although he got himself back to sleep twice. DH is home from now until the New Year, thank goodness. 2am seems a lot more bearable with somebody else there......
I would also like to join the potential bum shuffler's club (on DS's behalf, not mine). I saw a little girl doing it on a beach in Cornwall last year, her nappy made huge tracks in the sand and looked ever so cute! Mind you, DS and I would be happy for any method of mobility in the near future - frustration is kicking in big time!
