Nice here eh? Seven is a lovely magic number.

DD has horrible cough off DH. They are both hacking away like nanny goats so our house is rather noisy and I s'pose I'll have to get it too, sooner or later. A real workout for the immune system at 6 months anyway.

Think maybe my purees were a little bit lumpy for DD. She really went for the bought stuff I gave her today, and I was quite reassured. Anyone actually tried the Hipp apple and blueberry? So tasty I could have it on toast , no probs.

Georgina hope your hands, feet and mouths are OK.

Twiglett you are a rascal... sleeping through eh? what on earth is she thinking of?

Think I would rather miss my little overnight fixes of DD if she didn't remind me of her presence every 3 hours or so.

Susi - sorry I didn't mean that you had to wait until he was 3. Blush By ages I meant over two years. Basically as a small baby he was crap but as a toddler/little boy he's been brilliant. He has a light on a timer and doesn't get up until it comes on at 7 am (7.15 at weekends) and sometimes sleeps through it.

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 07/12/2004 14:13

They've added a Post-Natal Clubs board and shifted the thread there Grin

still doesn't mean I can keep up with any of your messages though Grin

hello all .. hope everyone and babbies are OK

Judd · 07/12/2004 16:59

Thanks for that ray of hope Bozza! DS does the wake at 5.30, arse around happy as Larry for 30 mins and then fall back to sleep until 7am. Of course I can't go back to sleep and just lie there grinding my teeth and feeling cross at DH who is asleep and doing Smug Snoring (as it is know in our house). DD also has a timer on her light....I think she wakes about 7.30 but....erm.... her timer doesn't come on until 8am (giving me time to breakfast DS etc) and being a stickler for rules, she doesn't set a toe out of bed until then!
Haven't been on MN much recently, but am just indulging myself as the blimmin' buggyboard broke on the way home from the park and I'm exhausted from pushing lopsided to balance DD on it! Glad to see everyone is OK - can't believe we are talking about 8 mionth checks! (our must be in January as I haven't heard a sausage (although would obviously be strange if I did Grin))

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 07/12/2004 19:35

what a day! who changed my little boy???? he was all whiney and grumpy all day long. crying as soon as i put him down. and didn't like anything! no playing, no singing, no talking, hardly slept anything :(
he's worn me out!!! luckily dp was a star and as soon as he got up he realised i need help and looked after ds! phewww needed that break.
but he did enjoy his bath in the end and went down for sleep quite easily. hope i'll have a good night. i am soooooo tired :(
rant over :o

egypt (especially for you): listen!! dd doesn't need feeding at night anymore :o - did it work?
hope your nights will get easier. do you do dummy? worked for us at nights Wink

shepherdswatchtheircatsbynight · 07/12/2004 19:52

Ahha! Found you! TOTALY confused and convinced everyone was hiding from me for all of today Grin

Prufrock and Libb- i have e mailed you both re Friday. Ohhhh getting excited now Smile

Susi- i'm sorry you've had such a tough day, it gets wearing some times doesn't it? I hope tomorrow's better for you hon xxx
Baby singing sounds like fun!

Egypt- No feeding at night! Grin Sorry about your argument with dh.

Well i have had a fairly quiet day. Kiera has been quite cuddly today, which is really unusual and lovely! She sat sat there with her head on my chest sucking her fingers. Really cute, my heart melted.

I am just about to give myself a home french manicure...eep.

Take care everyone!

kbaby · 07/12/2004 21:11

Thought i'd lost you all then.

DD's got a terrible cough. She had it quite bad about 2 weeks ago and then it cleared but now its come back. She keeps coughing and waking up. Our nights are getting worse. Shes still going to bed fine at 8pm but then waking at 2am. The only way she will get back to sleep is to come to bed. DP is constantly moaning about this. I dont want to do CC at the moment though as its not fair on her with her cough. Im reading every sleeping book going in my lunch hour trying to find solutions. Last night she woke at 2am and I gave the dummy then she woke at 3am and I brought her into bed and fed her, she fell asleep but then coughed and woke up and then styed awake and played until 5am. This morning was agony trying to get up for work. This has to stop as I really struggling with lack of sleep now. I can cope with a waking around 5am but not 2am.

My boobs have disapered. Well one of them has. I only feed dd from the one boob now at night so that boob still looks ok but the other one is empty, it looks like a spaniels ear. My poor boob it must be a A cup Sad I keep feeling it and telling DP it wasnt that small before.
I met a women the other day who still bf her ds whos 2 throughout the day. I couldnt help myself when she told me from looking at his teeth!

prufRockingAroundtheXmasTree · 07/12/2004 21:53

Honestly - teeth don't hurt. I fed dd until she was 11 months and had a mouthful. If they are latched on correctly the lip and tongue cover the teeth. Although... I do have incredibly sore nipplesat the moment, and ds does now have one tooth, but as my nipples are most sore on the top side and the tooth is on the bottom I don't think I can blame that.

helsyjinglebellsy · 07/12/2004 23:09

Hello - I love this Christmas names thing! Feel a bit guilty coming back in after not being around for so long and not really getting to know anyone in the first place, but in no particular order, dd2 had croupe(?), dh had septacaemia(?) - not good at spelling medical stuff! and I started work yesterday, so went a bit hermit for a while.
Kbaby, dd2 also has a terrible cough and is waking for at least a couple of hours a night. We're using snufflebabe, giving boiled water to drink and putting books under the mattress to raise her head a bit if any of that helps. She is on antibiotics too, which I'm not happy about but dd1 had pneumonia and bronchiolitis during her first winter so I panic about bad coughs. Santaslittlegypt, I only stopped feeding at night two weeks ago (was feeding 2, 4 and 6am) - did cc over a weekend and she STILL wakes but not to feed and is a lot easier to settle once she's woken but not at the moment as she's not well and will only eat apple.

SantasLittleEgypt · 08/12/2004 00:02

oh lordy. am doing cc as we speak. help! this is the 3rd time tonight. once at bedtime, took 40 mins, then at 930, took 40 mins, now from 1130. its horrid. she seems so hungry, grabbing my fingers and trying to suck them . have already been in tears tonight. dh says not to give in. its so hard. Sad

sorry some of your babes are poorly. hellsy, glad cc did some good for you. did u have to do it throughout the night then?

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 08/12/2004 08:47

wohoo got my boy back :o
had a quite good night. after i was soooo tired yday i went to bed at 9.30 Blush
ds woke up 4am and seems like he had some friends over Shock was giggling and babbling for good 20min! i woke again 6.30!!! he shortly after and he was all happy and laughing again :)
put him down for nap 20min ago, seems his friends are still around! he is singing and screaming and giggling. hope he doesn't wake his daddy Wink
hmmm, gone quiet now - fingers crossed!
no big plans for today. gotta go shopping later and need to go to towncenter to get my photos. and 3 blank calendars for grandparents xmas pressies :o - hope i'll find some!!

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 08/12/2004 08:54

oh and re cc; i agree it's not fair to do cc when lo is poorly! hard enough for them anyways :) - i would wait too!

cat: lovely to hear of your cuddleday with kiera!

egypt: keep going!! we all know it's tough but in the end it'll be worth it! have you tried a snuggleplanket? or a shirt/muslin with your smell on it? or maybe give water? - keep smiling :)

helsy: sorry to hear about your unwell family. hope they are allright soon! and that you'll get some time to yourself :)

and don't forget: babies are only happy when mummys are happy! so find 5min, get a cup of tea and sit down with legs up Wink

helsyjinglebellsy · 08/12/2004 10:01

Now I'm mn-ing at work! Still, it's cheaper than a 15-minute fag break...dd1(Katy)is now a bit better but still has a night-time cough, was up for an hour last night. Egypt, I did do cc through the night but I gave a late bf just before I went to bed, even if she was asleep, at a friend's suggestion. I'm not sure it worked - she still wakes up - but now I know it's not because she NEEDS food. Still doing late feed. I wouldn't do cc when they're ill, either. The trouble is, being ill can set them back by weeks. Our weaning has gone to pot this week and we're just stuffing anything we can down her (mainly apple). Ho hum, back to the work I get paid for......

shepherdswatchtheircatsbynight · 08/12/2004 11:15

Morning everyone :)

Susi- glad things are better today. I enjoyed my cuddly time with kiera, and hoping for a repeat!

Prufock and Libb- Everything okay for Friday still? I've not heard anything so just wondered :)

Egypt- Keep at it hun. I know it's hard but it will get better {{{hugs}}}

Helsyjinglebellsy- Blimey what a hard time of it you've had! I hope everone has recovered now.

Kbaby- Poor you and dd. I think over the tender age of 6 months, you can begin to give some kind of cough syrup can't you? Not 100% sure, maybe ask your pharmasist (sp!)
I also agree while dd is sick, i wouldn't do cc.

Georgina- I hope you're feeling better.

Oh dear looks like everyone is having a bit of a hard time at the mo. I do hope everyone is better by Crimbo.

I'm pretty sure that kiera is cutting a tooth...her gum is getting realy rough where i thought i saw something white under it. The problem is, every time i go near it her tongue shoots out and blocks me!

My home manicure was a disaster, so i may just book myself in for a proffesional one to pamper myself. Well my nails must look nice for when i break them all peeling potatoes and vegetables for christmas dinner! Wink

Get well wishes to those who need them and love to you all.

xxx

SantasLittleEgypt · 08/12/2004 11:49

hoping little babs and mums are feeling better today.

well, cc was okaaay. when i last posted she was not happy. i had been offering water, not picking her up but making sure she was winded after each gulp session. however, this time her crying went on for 1 hr 2mins. the last 2 times in the eve it had been for just 40, and i thought that the periods should shorten! so i quickly expressed some milk which was fairly easy as i was a bit engorged after missing the 11pm feed. only got an oz so thats all she got, gulped it down and giggled, blew raspberries and went to sleep! until 6am! gave her a bf then and she went through until 945 when i thought i'd better see if she was ok. she woke when i went in so must have been close to waking. however, not very happy today. just taken her for a walk and she's asleep again. i has really thrown her pattern out tbh, because she was awake a lot between 930 and 1am. but, it was progress. so all being well shall try again tonight.

off chrimble shopping this afternoon so dd is staying with a lovely neighbour who she loves. Smile not sure if she'll be fed and alert though by the time i want to leave. (about 1pm). she didnt have breakfast until 10. may have to leave neighbour with some lunch. its hard trying to fit everything round a routine isnt it?! and the neighbour wants to do the school run for her kids about 3. dd will have to wait to nap until then i guess.

aaaanyway, will shut up now. lots of love xxx

SantasLittleEgypt · 08/12/2004 11:50

sorry, that was 1 hr 20 mins. i'm not that anal

Linnet · 08/12/2004 14:37

Honestly, I get sick for a few days and when I come back to my beloved mumsnet they've moved the May babies thread, aagghh.

I haven't had time to read recent postings, will catch up later, just wanted to say hi.

Myself, dh and dd1 have all had a horrible tummy bug that dd2 miraculously managed to avoid. Have never been so ill in my life and really would much rather have given birth 10 times over, wow never thought I'd say that out loud.

Other than that we're now all doing fine, dd2's first Tooth is through, Yeah!! and she is becomming a monster, because she's never happy. If she's lying down she wants to be sitting up, sit her up she wants to be standing, stand her up she wants to be lying down, it just goes on and on and on Grin And if she has something that she's not allowed then take it from her boy does she let you know she's not happy about it.

Hope you're all doing well, will read rest of thread tonight. Go to go get dd1 from school and then go buy a Brownie uniform.

talk later
Linnet

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 09/12/2004 08:03

what a night! ds woke 10.30 and then 4am and wouldn't go back to sleep!!! he was not upset or crying; just babbling, cooing and screeching - big party, eh! at 6am i couldn't "ignore" him any longer and we got up. now it's 8am and he is down for his 1st nap already - no wonder :o
dp came home earlier and told me he'd take ds out in the afternoon to see a friend. so i can get some time to myself :o

linnet: agreed! i've got a monster too! same symptoms as yours :o
congrats on the tooth! and i am glad that you all are better :)

egypt: you are doing great! i'll take some time for dd to adjust. just keep going :)
how did she take it you going shopping on your own?

cat: go on girl! you deserve getting pampered Wink

helsi: hope you are back on track soon!

ChristmasBOOZA · 09/12/2004 08:40

Egypt from your posts I can see that DD is improving. I've heard it said that sometimes with CC it gets worse just before it gets better.

Linnet there seem to be a lot of tummy bugs around - we've suffered and GeorginaA's lot had one as well. Glad you're feeling better now though. Sounds like your and Susi's lo's want to be off but haven't worked out how. Get a bit of this with DD. And you have to watch her because she has a tendency to throw herself around without a thought for the consequences.

Have decided to hold off CC for now because the last few nights DD has gone through until at least 4 before being fed and then gone back until about 7. But have got a bottle of water at the ready in case she wakes earlier. I'm going out for a Chinese buffet with the people from work tonight. All you can eat and all you can drink but I'm driving. The significant thing here is that DH will have to put both children to bed on his own for the first time ever. AND DD will have her first bottle feed at bedtime since she was 3 weeks old (it was EBM then but will be formula tonight). I will be the one with the very impressive cleavage.... A bit anxious about it but DH seems quite cool which is a relief.

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 09/12/2004 09:38

oh my! big sigh
change of plans! after 30min i picked him up again. well, he was having a party again with music and lots of chitchat (somehow he turned 90degree and on his tummy and started the mobile music :o) - so we had breakfast together and played for an hour. hm, have a guess who still is not tired Wink

bozza: have fun at your night out!

SantasLittleEgypt · 09/12/2004 10:45

susi, he sounds like a party animal!

booza, enjoy you boozing - or lack of. hope your dd goes down well. i'm sure she will. bit of a novelty having daddy i'm sure. dd hasnt had a bottle at bedtime for quite a long while either. she may have to tomorrow night. i'm off out for a meal with work. (although i've left). my mum and dad are coming up for the w/e. touch wood. dad seems so much better and to be here will give him a break from his work phoning him all the time. but bit worried about the journey. aaaanyway, i have to leave at 645 so if dd isnt in bed a bf already, which she often is, mum'll have to do the honours. should do dd good anyway.

last night was another step forward. bed at 7. slept immediately. woke 1010. mumbling and whining, not really crying, however, did the cc. offered water. by 11 offered 2 oz ebm. still didnt want to sleep. she'd go quiet for maybe 10-15 mins then wake again. strange. by 1230 she was still at it, whining and moaning. i flew out of bed and dh nearly jumped out if his skin. 'this is RIDICULOUS!' (me). still didnt give in to bf. gave her some calgel and ashtons and a teething ring. then i went in the spare room where i can't hear her as well. heard her cry for about a minute at 4 then she woke again at 620. this time i gave her 2oz of ebm whereas last night i gave a full bf. she went to sleep again until 830. got up up for the day and bf. she prob couldve gone back to sleep tbh, as she hadnt had much, but i want to get her back on schedule really. think her late lie-ins could be disrupting her nights. anyway, she is now having her morning nap, on time. goodo.

tbh i think she has forgotten that she can be bf at night now. she doesnt seem to root for me when i touch her like she did before. i offer her a bottle and she smiles and quite happily has a chew.

slowlybutsurelyslowlybutsurely

SantasLittleEgypt · 09/12/2004 10:47

your nights are looking up booza. well done. Envy
i bet if you stick with it as you are she will eventually drop that feed.

ChristmasBOOZA · 09/12/2004 10:53

I think so too SLE. Because it is actually her morning feed early as she generally doesn't feed again when she wakes at 7 but waits for her breakfast at 8. So I'm hoping it will just gradually move later. She woke at 4.45am this morning, fed, went back to bed, cried at 5.15, I went and stroked her face, cried again at 5.45, ignored and she woke at 7.05. So between all this and me coughing everytime I was woken up DH and I have been awake since 4.45 so not great for the night out but I think I'll cope.

shepherdswatchtheircatsbynight · 09/12/2004 11:17

Hi everone,

Well Kiera moved on her own on her front this morning! She was trying to get to a toy that was just out of her reach and was kicking her legs like mad to get to it. Dp noticed what she was doing and just put his had behind her feet, so the next time she kicked she pushed herself off from his hand, and she reached the toy! She was quite excited to have moved, but then i think it was a bit too much for her and as soon as she picked it up, burst in to tears, bless her [grin

Egypt- Hope you manage to get dd back on track. And soo glad someone else does the storming around muttering "this is RIDICULOUS" as well Grin

Susi- Kiera also manages to switch her mobile at night, but sleeps through it! So dp and i have to take it in turns to get up and switch it off.

Linnett- Poor thing, your tummy bug sounds awful.
Congrats on the tooth!

Is my baby going to remain toothless for the rest of her life?!

I'm doing some very exciting cleaning today (bah!) and writing Crimbo cards. I have my mummy and baby group coming round to mine tomorrow and am always convinced they are scrutinizing my house for dirt, germs, illness etc Wink

Take care everone

xxxx

helsyjinglebellsy · 09/12/2004 12:07

Morning. Also had rubbish night as dd1 is still not well and woke up crying from 12.30 - 4 this morning. I have to admit to saying far worse than "this is RIDICULOUS" (add some unsavoury adjectives in there!) resulting in dh and me storming quietly (can you do that?) round the house glaring at each other and taking it in turns to calm dd2 whilst not waking dd1 who is now Mary in the school nativity because she was the "goodest" in the tryouts, apparently.
Have a bumps and babies Christmas curry for 12 tonight - organised by me AGES ago - and I'm too knackered to care.
Egypt, it sounds like cc IS working!
Shepherds - I know what you mean about thinking that other mothers will be running their fingers along your mantlepiece - but would you?
I have a worry - dd1 has refused a bottle for months and I've not been very persistent. She will now drink an ounce or two out of an NCT doidy cup, but since starting work on Monday I've been going back at lunchtime for a bf then home at 3 and another bf. The lunchtime bf can't go on much longer for various reasons, but my worry is that when I didn't go back on Tuesday, she just didn't have milk until I came home at 3. She will eat food with milk in and an ounce or two from a cup, but not a good 6/7oz feed. I'm worried she's now going to reduce the milk and not get all the goodness she needs. HV is useless and I've never tried expressing and am not keen (don't know why). At the moment she has bf at (roughly) 7am, 12.30/1pm, 3.30,pm 7.30pm and 11.30pm. Is that enough for 6.5 months? To add to that, the weaning has gone very slowly - again my fault I think - was starting her on protein two weeks ago then she got ill so it's still fruit and veg and only the equivalent of a jar a day of that plus half a rusk with milk. That said, she is 17lb at 28 weeks and has consistently put on weight. Should I worry, and any ideas for making it better? Would anyone recommend yoghurt at this age, and if so which ones? Sorry - long ramble. Feel like a new mother as dd1 was a completely different baby and much more organised!

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 09/12/2004 16:17

aaaaaaaaaaaaah :o
nothing nicer than an hour in a nice hot bath with lots of bubbles!!!
dp took ds to see a friend and i've got the house to myself - very nice!

oh, big smoke came out of our microwave earlier! dp didn't believe me and tried it and guess what? biiiiig smoke came out :o
well, we are off shopping tom anyways; going to bluewater Wink (big shoppingcenter); dp's mum lives up there - so 2 things in one go!

i think i'll go and finish my book since it's so nice and quiet here!
