Nice here eh? Seven is a lovely magic number.

DD has horrible cough off DH. They are both hacking away like nanny goats so our house is rather noisy and I s'pose I'll have to get it too, sooner or later. A real workout for the immune system at 6 months anyway.

Think maybe my purees were a little bit lumpy for DD. She really went for the bought stuff I gave her today, and I was quite reassured. Anyone actually tried the Hipp apple and blueberry? So tasty I could have it on toast , no probs.

Georgina hope your hands, feet and mouths are OK.

Twiglett you are a rascal... sleeping through eh? what on earth is she thinking of?

Think I would rather miss my little overnight fixes of DD if she didn't remind me of her presence every 3 hours or so.

good to hear from you linnet! congrats on tooth - and all the best for going back to work

ds seems to be over his cold although i watched him rub his ear earlier - will watch him closely!

how i could possibly feed him 21oz of milk a day i haven't got a clue! maybe i attach the bottle with rubberbands around his ears so he has it permanently on?? might even stop him from screaming all the time

was out yday afternoon to have coffee with a friend. her ds is 7mths
aaaaaah well, hot chocolate it was, with lots of whipped cream and a nice cake yummmmmmmmmy

Bozza · 02/12/2004 08:41

Susi my children both rub their ears when they are tired. Could it be as simple as that? Here's hoping.

Linnet great to hear from you. Slightly that you've nearly sorted your shopping. I planned to do it all before the end of mat. leave but then had DS's op and 3 weeks of chicken pox.

DD is much better and..........slept from 7.30 to 6 so I think we call that the first night through. Unfortunately DS was coughing quite a bit and started crying at 2 am because his duvet had fallen off. But I have hope now.

GeorginaA · 02/12/2004 09:29

Linnet - I've just gone for the lowest salt cubes I can find then use half the amount of cube that they recommend for the amount of water (so just to add a bit of flavour). I'm also marking the pots with a big S in a circle in the freezer so I know those recipes are the ones with salt in and trying to only give him one meal every other day that has it in. I worked out that the max he has every other day is 0.5g of salt - which isn't ideal, but it still seems quite safe levels.

We're knackered today. After talking it over with several people yesterday, I decided that ds2 shouldn't need the HUGE feed he's currently having in the middle of the night (he's subsequently not so interested in a morning feed) which is going in a bit of a vicious circle - so decided to do CC. I'm fairly certain he's cold-free and doesn't seem to be teething, so if I was going to do it, now seemed a good time. He woke at 1.30am (because he'd rolled over on his tummy and got stuck) and it took 2 hours to resettle him. Then ten minutes after he resettled, ds1 woke up and wanted cuddling Reckon we got a grand total of 4 hours sleep last night broken up into fragments.

Just hope I'm doing the right thing and that we get a better night tonight

jinglespots · 02/12/2004 09:31

I can't see any videos either. it's like finding the door on the advent calendar is locked...

I just wanted to post with my seasonal name. Don't really have anyhthing to say! Taking DD in to rehearsals still going fine, she is being just great.

Hope your dad doing ok Egypt.

jinglespots · 02/12/2004 09:36

Poor Georgina.

Do you know you can get these salt free yeast flakes which you can use instead of stock? They are v. tasty (we have them sprinkled on popcorn - with salt!) Called Engevita and available from health food shops and big supermarkets. Yeast seems an odd food to give a baby but I've never seen advice not to.

jingling my spots, jingle jingle...

ChristmasBOOZA · 02/12/2004 09:42

Oh Georgina its hard isn't it? Good luck for tonight.

I decided the same with DD for the same reason about 3 weeks ago and did one night much the same as yours but then the little toad decided to get poorly and has been poorly (two upset tummies and a bad cold/cough) ever since until last night when she did the amazing feat.

SantasLittleEgypt · 02/12/2004 11:02

blimey, teeth are appearing all over the place! except not here. although we have a real grizzler.

sadly no monsterhunt happened susi, dh was home after dd was in bed and the loft hatch is in her room. good excuse hey? no flies tonight either. bizarre

georgina, i agree it is horrid and hard work (cc). must do it again myself but just cant bring myself to do it! sorry about your night libb, it will happen again!

dad had his xray results back. it shows a bad infection on both sides of his lungs, so sounds like pleurisy after all. he's off to the hospital today. oh dear.

i wont be able to make the christmas meet no. i'm too far away to come at night. 100miles to be exact! anyway, sounds like i may be visiting dad that w/e and if i'm not i'm due to go to our work's christmas meal. not that i work there anymore!??! sorry

i've made a chicken stock as in AK, just boiled up a tesco's pre-cooked chicken carcus from the spit counter. (we'd eaten the meat - they dont sell carcuss'!! ). then poured in tubs and froze. dd loves a cube or two in her veggies. dont know if that's want you want though. they dont salt those chickens do they?????!!!! ????!!!!!!

SantasLittleEgypt · 02/12/2004 11:33

well done on your night booza! long may it continue

shepherdswatchtheircatsbynight · 02/12/2004 11:42

good morning, good morning

Well i think we have a tooth making an appearance, hurrah! Kieras gums seem a little swollen and she's been much more grizzly than normal. I checked and caught sight of a small white thing under her gum. I've given her some rice cakes and calgel and she seems okay so far.

Oh no SLG- not the news you were hoping for at all. Best wishes to your dad, and love to you.

Poor you Georgina. CC does sound the best way to go. Remind yourself that he's warm, safe, not unwell and that he almost certainly isn't hungry and it will be over before you know it. {{{hugs}}}

Hi Linnet! Lovely to hear from you

Judd- shudder Dp does the teeth grinding thing, i couldn't cope with it from all sides!!

Starofbethlibbhem - Hurrah sounds like the 10th is good then! Evening is cool with me.

So guess what blimmin' AF has arrived. Grrrrr. £7.45 wasted dagnammit!

Dp may have a half day today so we're taking Kiera to see Santa! We didn't get there last weekend in the end.

Take care everone
xxxx

SantasLittleEgypt · 02/12/2004 12:32

have a lovely time swtcbn! can't get used to these new names! liking it though

dd especially grizzly too. must be those dagnamming teeth but no sign.

meant to say that dd rubs her ears when tired too susi, so could be just that.

going swimming this afternoon with mum from baby group. rather excited. hope dd is ok. cant imagine how she'll react really. she does love her bath, bigtime, but only when it is very warm. like 'adult' warm. she screams when its a touch on the cool side.

dd got a mysterious letter from santa today!Cant imagine who arranged for it to be sent, but personalised and very lengthy with a little star badge with it. post marked croydon. strange? mil i guess, although we do have some friends in croydon, but not the sort to do that.

ChristmasBOOZA · 02/12/2004 13:40

Just hold her close to you at first SLE. My DD loves swimming and stays in for the full hour splashing and giggling. Wish DS were so easy....

Make sure you get a photo of Kiera with Santa swtcbn (pasted that from SLE's post because I couldn't be bothered to work out the initials) because this might be the last year for a while that she will not hide behind you every time she sees Santa.

SantasLittleEgypt · 02/12/2004 17:19

she loved it! slept for england when she got in the car. i perused the aisles at pc world with her in her car seat - carrying her - and she never woke. unheard of! she was bloody heavy. (forgot the pushchair)

my sister has called. mum and dad are still at the hospital. it seems its not an infection in his lungs but fluid around his heart. what else?? this is the 3rd diagnosis. apparently it can be dispersed. don't know how. hate all this.

GeorginaAdventCalendar · 02/12/2004 18:03

Glad she liked the swimming lesson, Egypt - it does tire them out well, doesn't it!!!

Sorry to hear that you've got yet another diagnosis for your dad, I'm afraid I don't know much about that but I'll have a search around for you to see if I come up with anything.

GeorginaAdventCalendar · 02/12/2004 19:51

Flushed with my partial success at sharing a video clip earlier, here's ds1 and ds2 together .

Please excuse the dreadful state of the chairs - that's what happens when you have a very messy eater and a slovenly mother. As soon as both kids demonstrate the ability to eat properly we're chucking them all out and getting decent dining room furniture...

SantasLittleEgypt · 02/12/2004 22:18

very cute GeorginaAC. cant even see your chairs. maybe its the birghtness on my wmp. my videos all seem dark. must be hard work with 2. i dont know how you cope. i had my friends's baby whilst she went to shower at the pool as well as dd. both were crying. i was trying to cheer up dd whilst pushing her ds in his pushchair - nightmare!!!!!! i say my friend -i actually only know her from babygroup. asked her what she did for a living today and she is a GP!!! felt very intimidated all of a sudden. good person to know i guess.

just spent the eve with my neighbours who have plied me full of wine and brandy, mince pies and ..yogurt?! played scrabble and blob (card game) and took my mind off things. dd did some serious cc - i took the monitor next door and kept popping in every 15 mins or so. thats the longest stretch i've given her but prob did her good, and me as i couldnt easily go and see to her. she went off after about an hour maybe. bless her. she did have a huge tea, and didnt want much bf at bedtime.

we had such a lovely giggle time this eve..before bath. its almost as though she is giggling out of politeness sometimes. even though i'm not tickling her but saying 'tickle tickle tickle' and reaching for her, she laughs. ahhh.

dad is staying in hosp tonight. they;ve given him something to try and disperse the fluid and are keeping an eye on him because if the fluid increases it could put his heart under strain. may go home tomorrow.

Judd · 02/12/2004 23:03

Sorry I haven't got a Christmassy name yet. Will change as soon as DH gets home and unblocks me. However, he has just phoned and is winning at pool in Oxford so his mind is obviously on much more important things
Georgina, re: messy eater...and anybody else with an older child. Do yours still wear bibs/any sort of protective garment? DD has bib, "knee bib" and also doesn't put on preschool top until after breakfast. Sorry to bang on about this on the May thread, but its the only one I can access at the moment.
Does anybody else find the CBeebies snowman scarey?
Egypt, hope your dad gets better really soon.

GeorginaAdventCalendar · 02/12/2004 23:13

Nope he doesn't - he's 3.5 now and as he had to eat at nursery without, plus his plastic bib being way too small, we stopped using it. However, the bib never seemed to help anyway - he's always managing to drop food on the seat as opposed to on him (he sits at the table now - and for a while had a booster seat at the table too).

SusiUnderAMistletoe · 03/12/2004 09:04

wohoooo got flowers today! it's our 3rd anniversary! (well, 3yrs ago i moved to the UK and in with dp ) also had a big cuddle! now both my men are in bed
agreed egypt: how you all manage more than 1 child
hope your dad gets better soon!
cat: how did kiera like santa???
G: video didn't work. i could make out some figures but looked like someone poured lots of paint over everything

SantasLittleEgypt · 03/12/2004 10:16

morning. well all that cc didnt work. she woke at 12, 2, 5, 6, 9.30! guess i was sposed to do it again at those times but was far too sleepy. how can you do it in night? did you georgina? how did last night go?

prufRockingAroundtheXmasTree · 03/12/2004 10:49

YOu manage with 2 because you realise that neither actually need nearly as much looking after as you gave your first. I did hate it when I only had dd and people said, "oh you've got it easy, just wait until you have two". It's not easy, because everything is so new, but second time round you do realise what hard work you made for yourself with the first. I mean - all you firsttimers actually play with your babies don't you?

Cat and libb. I can definately make the 10th. A friend from Cambridge is coming for the afternoon so will give me a lift back. What time/venue suits you?

And yes the snowman is scary

GeorginaAdventCalendar · 03/12/2004 10:59

Agree with prufrock - the point of two is that the elder can do the playing with the younger

Only 45 mins to resettle last night - it's improving... going to the Birmingham meet tonight so I hope he sleeps through tonight

WHEN is this baby going to crawl?! My little smiley ball has gone - he just rolls onto his tummy then screams because he can't get anywhere. Any attempt to put him back on his back is met with anger and he rolls straight back!! I know a crawling baby will be a nightmare - but at least he'd be happy again, wouldn't he?!!!

Judd · 03/12/2004 15:34

Agree with P&G, although do sometimes feel very guilty that I don't play as much with DS as I did with DD. In fact, they are both watching teletubbies now as I type! (resorted to videos because cannot guarantee when sodding snowman is going to rear ugly head on CBeebies and send DD into crying frenzy).
Georgina...hate to say it, but DD did the rolling and whingeing from 6 months but didn't crawl until 8.5. Hope its quicker for you! And thanks for the bib info, we might have to bite the bullet in the New Year methinks.

Judd · 03/12/2004 15:35

I can't wait for the crawling stage, I found it so much more interesting then once DD could move under her own steam.

GeorginaAdventCalendar · 03/12/2004 15:41

Oh God, Judd... don't think I could survive another 2.5 months of this!!!

I'm a mug. Just went into Tescos for some christmas cards - came out with a singing ride-on reindeer and now have "jingle bells" on constantly.

cat82 · 03/12/2004 16:43

Hi everyone,

Had a lovely meet up with the cambs lot this morning everyone was really nice. Libb- waited for you at 12.00 but didn't see you?

Okiay, so we chickened out of seeing Santa. We were in line with lots of mums with 4 and 5 year olds who were all giving us wierd looks as we queued with our 6 month old, and i heard one of them sniggering! So we ran away

Prufrockin' and Libb- are we not evening meeting on the 10th? i can't do the day!

SLE- oh poor you, i hope tonight is better for you! I'm sorry about your dad honey, must be sooo frustrating to get 3 diagnosis. Best wishes to him for a quick recovery.

Susi- Congratulations on your anniversary

Hurrah! dps prezzies are all bought! I haven't bought the big one yet as i SERIOUSLY overspent today so am waiting for re stocked funds next week i'm gonna get him a telescope! I was pondering on getting him one, and then last weekend i spotted him in a shop staring longingly at them so that made the decision for me! So that is me 100% finished

Hope everyone is okay
