Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Divastrop · 12/01/2008 21:48

hi leo

yes,our thread first-born was 1 a couple of days ago.how time flys!
how are your two doing?

mossy-congrats on the new job

Elsie woke up before with glowing red cheeks.please let her have more teeth tomorrow.

dd2 has an infection 'down below',which started off as nappy rash, then developed into thrush, then i took her to the drs when canesten cream did nothing to help.she has given me canesten HC cream and antibiotics for her.now,dd2 will usually take anything that looks like medicine, even that revolting generic calpol, but she will not take this stuff.i have even tried putting chocolate milkshake mix in it and sugar but no,if i do manage to prize her gob open she just spits it back out.
i havent tried it as im allergic to penecillin but ds1 licked the spoonand said it was the most disgusting thing hes ever tasted.how the f**k am i meant to giver her it?

spongecake · 12/01/2008 22:16

hi everyone- have been offline for ages. have whizzed quickly through some of the threads- happy 1st birthday to jordi

rosy, your art sounds great, how do you find the time?

bethoo, your dp sounds like he wants to have his cake, eat it and keep some in the fridge for later. agree tell him to hand over all monies owing.. unless he thinks he can pay you in kind?

diva, hope your dd gets better and takes the medicine

my dad is v ill and about to have a heart op. think my ma is not telling whole truth though as he is at home and is "popping to the hospital" to have it done next week. right. has the nhs really come to this?

kiwibella · 12/01/2008 22:39

Hi Leo... great to hear from you!! Who is looking after your twins while you are at work? I'm feeding Kate too... and pleased to be pretty much back to f/t feeding her since I finished work at Christmas.

morocco · 12/01/2008 23:07

hiya leo, how are the twins? i'm still bf loads as well, she loves her milk!

how's the electric shock thing going kitty? I had one of them after ds2 was dragged out by ventouse, they are fab fab fab. i'm going to whisper the next bit cos it's tmi, but i had mine done as proper physio, poor woman whose job that was. basically i went for 30 mins once a week, had to lie down like having smear test while she stared at my fanny as i did the kegels/used the tens thing. fanny boot camp. this was #abroad# sure they don't do that here. but it really worked. no probs at all this time round.

congrats on new job mossie, are you still doing the bf counselling at sure start as well?

diva, hope your dd gets well soon, can they prescribe a different medicine? some of them are really gross.

Callieco · 13/01/2008 00:21

Morocco, PMSL at fanny boot camp!!!! Maybe that should be compulsory for all post-birth women and put Tena pants company out of business .

Leo, fab to hear from you, and thanks for the birthday wishes. Yes, wee Jordi is now huge, one-year-old Jordi, about to start nursery as I go back to work too on Monday for three days. How are the twins? It's our birthday coming up too - you are my birthday twin remember!

I have spent the evening going through papers and finally, finally, doing my child tax credit form. It's a pain in the ass because DP is self-employed so trying to work out the hours he does and the money he earns (not much ) will be a nightmare. Ho hum. Does anyone know if they will backdate it to when Jordi was born, or will it just be from April last year to April this year, sort of thing? I hate forms.

Kiwi, your walk in the park sounded great. Hope your DH's daughter gets home safe and sound. I'm assuming she is in her teens? Was it Greenwich you went to?

fitfox · 13/01/2008 12:04

Callie I have a horrible feeling they only backdate it for 3 months

Diva - we had that medicine problem with DD once - on hols in Morocco she had to have penicillin - I think we thickened it with something (porridge you could try) and you could add some jam/syrup/sugar, to try and disguise the taste.

We could go back and ask for something different, but you could maybe ask GP to prescribe the same drug but in a different form? Good luck

I have an infected tooth so am on amoxycillin, so am just waiting for breast thrush to appear

Divastrop · 13/01/2008 16:14

foxy-i would have to buy/figure out how to make porridge first.anyway, she doesnt like jam, anything strawberry flavour...the only thing sweet she likes is chocolate, and then only cadbury.im going to ring the doctor tomorrow and tell her i refuse to pin down a screaming 2 year old and force feed her medicine.

callie-i dont envy you filling in the tax credits form.ive spent the last 10 years filling in forms but when i saw the working tax credit section of that form i thought 'thank god i dont have to fill that bit in!'.
one of these days, the government willc ome up with something simple that actually works.although probably not in my lifetime.

today i took ds1 and dd1 to lazserzone(well, dropped them off there)and the lo's to playzone(soft play area)as its ds1's birthday tomorrow and he has been going on about going there for the past 3 years.they had lots of fun 'killing' each other.

ReverseThePolarity · 13/01/2008 18:18

Leo & Sponge, long time no see, nice to hear from you both again!

Sponge I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Sounds strange "popping in" for an op, I agree. But then again you never know with the NHS I suppose.

Leo yes I'm still bfing too, about to return to ft work so will express during the day. Still no AF, I think Bertie feeds far too often during the night for that!

Diva can you mix the medicine in with an already-made chocolate milkshake, like a Maccie D's one or something?

Morocco I am starting a new group at SureStart in February / March, an antenatal one, for pg women to learn about breastfeeding. It's going to be on Saturdays, as many pg women work and can't get time off until the point where they're just too big to want to leave the house!

I want it to be very much a "show and tell" group rather than "ooh isn't breastfeeding just brilliant with all these benefits", but I have a feeling one of the other peer supporters thinks she is on a mission to "convert" everyone, so I will have to see how that goes.

Kiwibella St James' park is lovely if it's the one I'm thinking of, is it the one with all the unusual ducks, near Buckingham palace?

Bertie's having quite a mardy day today, not sure why. But sausage, carrot & swede seem to be keeping him quiet.

The job is just a basic admin one, at Whiston Hospital, but it's a ten minute bus ride from the top of our road so it's easy to get to and back, and it's just one of those jobs you can do with your eyes closed (well, not literally, as it's copy typing, not audio typing, but you get my meaning).

Right Bertie is now feeding the cat. He is picking up sausage bits and giving them to Ziggy. Well I never.

LunarSea · 13/01/2008 19:56

Hi Leo. Still bf'ing here too (she types 1-handed with Toby atteched on the other) although have been back at work since September so he does have a bit of formula while he's at nursery.

Toby's started to fetch the packet of wipes and bring them to me whenever he wants changing! And he lifts his t-shirt up to say he wants to feed too. Very cute - I must video it before he grows out of it

Callieco · 13/01/2008 20:11

Sponge, hope your dad is ok. Are they near you, your parents? I have a vague feeling from before that they're not - must be hard if so.

Lunar, hello. Is Toby walking now? He was always so far advanced physically!

Well girls, it's my last night of freedom - eek! Still can't get my head around the thought I may be doing some work tomorrow (as opposed to sorting out all the IT applications, which has probably gone into meltdown in the previous year. Had some quite annoying news today. You know I have this horrid manager who is going on attachment for a year, hurrah. Well, word on the street is she may be replaced by somebody apparently nearly as bad... Frying pan, fire? That's putting a bit of a downer on it. There are five known candidates for her job, and most of them are rubbish (in our eyes). While the obvious person to run the department is away on attachment elsewhere, and it's so annoying because she is great! Ho hum, sorry for boring you with work trivia, but expect more of it...

Kiwi, didn't read your post properly. I used to work in Trafalgar Square and often went for lunchtime walks in St James' Park. Seems like an aeon ago (and it actually was, which is the sad thing - getting old!).

I am actually going to iron some clothes this evening. I've done two loads of washing, been to a first birthday party and an planning on sticking another one on.

Piffle · 13/01/2008 20:35

oh the things you miss when you are off line a couple of days.
Kitty do report back, I've always been a stickler for my pelvic floor exercises, butwell if there is a secret weapon to help you achieve a more pre children sort of effect... well...

Leo Long time no see! How are those delicious little twins.
Breastfeeding OH LORDY yes. Finn swaps from sleeping through (Friday) to feeding every 1.5 hrs (last night)

He does not know there is an alternative really, he ahs the odd bit of cows milk from a cup but thinks its for washing his hands in at this rate he'll never be off me, but hey I can live with that for sometime yet
Holy moly is there such a thing as 9 mth growth spurt, this kid is eating like there is no tomorrow... My boobs are like soggy balloons, my cupboards are bare, he ate masses last night and still woke loads.
Not in pain just hungry....

Divastrop · 13/01/2008 21:04

piffle-dont they have a growth spurt every 3 months in the first year or 2?i think Elsie had a 9 month growth spurt..ive kind of missed the past few weeks what with being away on planet comedown.

callie-i hope you get a decent manager.

all this talk of work is scary.i havent had a paid job for over 10 years,i wouldnt know where to start.

mossy-she was supposed to have the medicine 4 times a day.she doesnt like milkshake,or milk.honestly, she will eat pretty much anything savoury, but is a fussy little madam when it comes to sweets and drinks.anyway, ive abandoned the AB's and am going to ring the doc first thing.

i think you need to 'av a word with that other peer supporter.i do remember at ante-natal classes listening to all the 'you simply must bf,it has all these benefits da di da blah blah' and it was just like when i was at school listening to teachers go on about the health risks of smoking and taking drugs,my eyes glazed over and i started to really wonder what it was like to smoke...i think i had my first fag that evening.
i think the 'its bloody hard work for alot of women at the start, but really worth giving it a try at least' attitude works better.

fitfox · 13/01/2008 21:34

Piff I think Monti isd having a growth spurt too - fed every hour last night

Sponge - popping in for an op sounds very much like the NHS to me atm - let us know how it goes for him

Kiwi - your park visit sounds so lovely, what a nice day out for the girls. How old is your step daughter? Does she look like your DDs?

Diva - Your Gp must surely be able to prescribe something abit more palatable for your DD.

Just got back from my drinking book club. Drank champers and food was great

LunarSea · 13/01/2008 23:03

Callie - Toby's doing 1-handed, and occasionally no-handed, cruising (so we've had the odd unsupported step) but he hasn't actually plucked up the courage to walk away from the furniture towards open space yet.

kittywise · 14/01/2008 07:24

Hello all, just wanted to say "hello' as haven't had much posting time.

I'll write more later by which time my vibrator might have arrived , on second thoughts............in which case I'll be otherwise engaged

bethoo · 14/01/2008 09:35

Leo- i am still bf though do not know why as he just wants ot chew on me!

bethoo · 14/01/2008 09:51

sorry not been able to chat this weekend as xp seemed to have moved in forthe weekend to show his change in character! still not seen any money though! had amazing sex (why!!!)even went where no man has gone before! sorry if tmi!! anyhoo i said i could get preggers as fertile time of month andhe went on about being a good thing and would love it (now i am going ot sound like a man!) he wants to trap me for another year or two!!!all very well sayingthat but the first sign of nausea ora little bump and he will be off again in denial again! then i said i was not so sure about it now nad he was like 'becasue you dont want me you mean' felt like saying well yes actually!

anyway Pif -any news on the +test yet?
Diva- that might be a good thinkg that lo has not got a sweet tooth. does she like fruit? Hayden loves it.

kittywise · 14/01/2008 09:58

Hello leo, good to hear from you!

I am still bf, although it seems to be drying up a bit. I supplement with bottles now and Ronnie seems a bit happier. He looks like he has put on some weight. Maybe the little lad was starving .

Mossy ( sorry I just typed that automatically,) well done on the job, I hope you enjoy it and it works out .

Morocco, that's cheering news about the electric vibrator, I eagerly await mine. I can't wait to see the doc on weds, maybe she'll tell me everything is ok?>

Lunar, is Toby running his first half marathon yet ?
Ronnie can walk at warp speed pushing his little trolley, although of course he gets very frustrated when he hits a wall ( don't we all?)

geekymummy · 14/01/2008 09:59

divastrop - (great name by the way!) I'm just generally a geek, but I s'pose you could call me a gaming and gadget geek

Leoloopydoo - yep stil BF here!

ReverseThePolarity · 14/01/2008 10:18

Lunar, Toby really does sound very clever. And quite convenient too, to know when he needs his own nappy changing! You could toilet train him already I bet!!

Callie good luck and I hope you get a good manager, or at least a less bad one!

Diva yes, it concerns me a little, trying to talk people into it, which as you say, would probably have the opposite effect anyway. I don't want "benefits of breastfeeding" to be one of the topics, I want to do hand expression, common early problems, skin to skin & biological nurturing, positioning and attachment and coping with housework etc.

Piffle how are you feeling? I think you are a very strong person but I think sometimes it's okay to be a bit less strong and let your guard down and have a good weep and feel sad and angry and confused. Lots of big cyber hugs to you.

Right, you're all talking about cows' milk, can you explain it to me? I thought you couldn't give cows' milk until a year, I have read (Dr. Jack Newman no less) that you can give "homogenised" milk after six months but only as a supplement not as a sole drink, what is homogenised anyway? And what type of cows' milk are those of you who give it, giving your lo's? Can someone explain it to me?

Bethoo, "where no man has gone before" the problem is that's not tmi as I don't know what you mean. I can't imagine you mean he is a cunning linguist, as I would be surprised to find someone of our age for whom that would be a first (but you never know) or are you talking about the tradesman's entrance?

I sound like a 14 year old!

Foxy glad you enjoyed your booze book club! What book are you reading?

Kitty, Bertie still isn't crawling, I don't know what's up with him, he seems perfectly fine in every other respect. He can even say cat ("KAAAAAAA! KAAAAA!"), dog ("DIIIIG! DIIIIG!"), milk ("ika! ika!" - although only to describe the act of feeding, not to actually ask for it) and even big light ("ikie! ikie!" - at least, he does it when he's looking at the big light and I've told him it's called big light often enough that I'm assuming it's that ). But he just won't crawl. Oh and sometimes he goes through phases where everything is the cat.

Hello everyone else.....

Where is Eids these days btw?

Piffle · 14/01/2008 10:21

lunar toby sounds liek Finn oh sucha dead casual cruiser, Finn will now walk 1-2 small steps towards me, if I shriek like a full auditorium full of cheering fans...
I know it won't be long - am dreading it. The swinging one handed of furniture does my head in - he has become very adept so fast.

The food fest continues
dinner 5 last night, then bf at 6pm, he then shared out fried rice as we ate 6.30pm and he ate more than DD! Then pudding and another bf at 7.15, put to bed, yelled til 7.45 when I capitulated and you guessed it, he was hungry. Then 11 3 6 brekkie at 7am, one weetabix and fruit, one slice of MY toast and then he was chasing dd around for her cheerios.
Then obviously another bf for good measure.
20 mins nap, then one banana and half a digestive (MINE)
he is currently mostly looking at the next half of MY biscuit...
anyway see the above, thats my life today
And he is teething nos 7 and 8 are poking through as white lumps, so yep he is delightfully whingy as well

Rosylily · 14/01/2008 10:22

Bethoo, you are a slave to your hormones! It's our bodies that trap us not some man

Piffle has everything settled down and are you feeling okay?

Lunar Toby is so clever bringing you the wet wipes already!

Sponge, it must be hard for your family at the moment worrying about your Dad.

Diva, I haven't worked for years either and it's like a parallel universe to me.

Reverssy, I hope you make the transition okay this week.

Piffle · 14/01/2008 10:24

all uk shop milk is homogenised it means that milk is collected from diferent animals and ut together and then pasteurised.

I cannot be arsed buying formula to offer Finn the rare cup of milk, so he just sups cows milk, not even daily maybe 1-2 a week when we're out and about perhaps. He is impossible to bf in public or even away from home so it is godsend.

Oh and thanks, I'm fine Mossy, for now

Piffle · 14/01/2008 10:24

oh god just saw that congrats to have a job Mossy, hope it goes ok this week, take care you must be shattered.

bethoo · 14/01/2008 11:53

Polar- i think it is calledthe tradesman entrance though no idea why!!! it was one of those things i had to try!
Piffle - blimey, i am lucky if Hayden eates at all since he would rather fling everything at the dogs! the only way you are guaranteed to get food int ohim is by hand feeding! if he dislikes or has had enough he blows raspberries spraying everything in his path in pasta or whatever! he does like fruit, munching on blackberries, raspberries, strawerries etc. and blue berries that make his poo funny! can we safely say that they can eat basically anything now other than honey?? anyone given their babies things with nuts in yet??
