Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Phoenix · 01/01/2008 23:20

Oh yeah course i've seen Dirty Dancing, my fave, forgot that was mentioned.

Frizbe · 01/01/2008 23:20

EPPM I did think that was a bit of an odd q, but can also remember people happily wetting themselves in my reception class, much to their embarrasement, so thought it could be an open q to us all
dd2 did behave incidently, in fact I think she'd have been happy to get stuck in!

DontDreamItBeIt · 01/01/2008 23:20

EPPM....Is the school a nursey attached to a school?
If they take them at 2.5 they don't seem oo worried about them being completely toilet trained, (was a requirement i 2002 for dd1 starting at 3.5), bu will probably wan her partially trained and in pull ups at least.

Taking her with you for initial viewings isn't going to give you a clear idea of how it will suit her. I'd try and take her during school hours to your top choice at a later date.

DontDreamItBeIt · 01/01/2008 23:22

I knew you were really asking csws, bu I've given up on tv nd I'm nosey

Phoenix · 01/01/2008 23:26

Well i'm calling it a night ladies, goodnight

Frizbe · 01/01/2008 23:31

nite phoenix, I'm not too far behind you honest....

EachPeachPearMum · 01/01/2008 23:38

Nightnight!

It is kindergarten attached to an all age school (2.5-18yrs) but I was assuming as its a school-based nursery rather than a care-based nursery they may expect her to be trained.

They do mention 'maturity' but that may just refer to being able to be comfortable away from mummy for 4 hours IYSWIM.

When my mum wanted me to start school at 4.5 (rather than wait until I was actually 5) the head mistress tested me to see if I was emotionally and physically ready for school (I could read and write from 2yrs...my mum was a teacher).

Her test was for me to walk down stairs! If I went down one foot, paused brought 2nd foot to same step, one foot, brought 2nd foot to join it, then I wouldn't have been able to start. Needless to say I just used one foot per stair, as an adult would .

She also put me straight into 2nd year class, as first years were learning to read...

FlameNFurter · 02/01/2008 08:07

Gonna read properly in a minute, but from my scanning...

I was born 81 and I have seen the films, love Andrew McCarthy and have a very extensive River collection on video (less so on DVD)

mustmakeyouamanmore · 02/01/2008 08:25

I cant believe people were really only born in the 80's

Mrcsws hasnt got shingles has he?If he was feeling itchcy etc too, its posible. the stress of xmas could'v set it off! When dh had it, he passed it to ds1 as cP, and I was v peeved as it was in early pg of ds2.

DontDreamItBeIt · 02/01/2008 08:49

I was born it the 60s mrm

ds was up til11.
I was up til 2am
Started he day at 7.30.

I want a day off!

FlameNFurter · 02/01/2008 08:59

I know again the questions weren't to me, but I wouldn't take her to see the schools - the look round won't give you any indication of how she will like it/settle in etc, it will just be a distraction for you.

I will admit to baulking at the concept of single sex for preschoolers - it seems far far too early to be separating them, they don't even start to work out that girls are pink & boys smell until they reach about 5. IMO they need the mix of personalities that both genders bring.

Toilet trained - they aren't allowed to insist on it (something to do with special needs inclusion etc), but obviously they prefer it. I have a feeling that they can set up some rule though that means they will change wet pull ups but you have to come in and do poo yourself. I get the feeling that if you are paying for independent though they are more likely to be tolerant .

DD has just written "It"

Ooh and DS didn't cry at nursery

Calmer again about my dad etc. He knows it happens - it is the leather jacket situation all over again - they get "loans" that he knows will never be paid back. I got a good mum out of it

for Mr McCarthy Fans

mustmakeyouamanmore · 02/01/2008 09:41

We've just watched 3 mins of Prank Patrol. There were 2 little girls in a laundrette. Ds1 said 'oh look. Is that (Jas's dd's) in the old days?'

CantSleighWontSleigh · 02/01/2008 10:11

Sorry - went to bed early (or at least planned to, but dd woke just as I was about to go up, and took forever to resettle her again ).

I didn't take dd no, as I knew that she would be demanding and distract me from having a proper look. Actually we took her to one, but also took fil, who stayed outside and played with her whilst we looked around. They were mostly schools from age 4/5 though (one was from 2 I think). We are taking her to look at the nursery attached to the school that we have chosen - I asked their advice when making the appointment, and they said it was fine, and that the visiting children often enjoyed joining in. We're seeing that nursery on 11th, and have it on my mental list of questions to ask whether they need to be toilet trained (though I am expecting/hoping that dd will be by then anyway).

We only went to open days, but one of them (our chosen one) was on a Friday, so the children were all there anyway. I would suggest doing open days if you have a bunch to look at, and then going to see one (or two if you can't quite decide) individually afterwards.

I'm anti single sex at this age. I guess I just feel that it's important that they get to mix as they would in the 'real world'. Otherwise there are 2 very good single sex schools nearby that we would have looked at.

If you're looking at schools that go right through, then remember to consider their secondary performance separately from their primary. If you might want to move her for secondary, then consider how well they prepare them for common entrance, as IME they might not be so focused on this, given that they don't need to move.

Would love to know which schools you are considering. Facebook me if you don't want to say on here!

Jas - I have a day off! Dh has just taken dd to in-laws for the day , at mil's suggestion. I am going to do a bit of shopping (have some vouchers which expire today so need to use), and go to the gym, as well as hopefully a bit of sorting here, and if I'm really lucky a bath too!

No more spots appeared on dd overnight, and the teeny tiny ones are still barely noticeable, so I assume it's not CP after all . Dh has one watery blister on his hand, but feels brighter than yesterday, so don't think he has anything much either. Will obv still keep an eye on dd though.

DontDreamItBeIt · 02/01/2008 10:20

csws

The dds watch prank patrol mrm. I hate it! Which one did he think was one of mine????

mustmakeyouamanmore · 02/01/2008 11:07

This is the frist time we've watched it. There were 2 girls in a laundrette being pranked (if thats English!) ith a hole in the soap powder box, bubbles from the machine etc. The 2 girls are your daughters

DontDreamItBeIt · 02/01/2008 11:13

Yes they were watching that one too. They looked just like the dds

CantSleighWontSleigh · 02/01/2008 16:21

Bugger. Mil has told dh that she doesn't think he has had chickenpox. Until now that is. He's apparently covered. DD has apparently also had a couple more spots blister, so it seems that I need to paint a red cross on the door!

Guess our trip to the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham tomorrow is off then .

FlameNFurter · 02/01/2008 17:12

Aww I'm breading mine getting it - I will have 3 poorly children to look after, and the 29yr old will be the hardest!

FlameNFurter · 02/01/2008 17:13

breading??? DREADING

I don't think rolling in breadcrumbs helps...

Phoenix · 02/01/2008 17:23

I thought CP wasn't contagious once the spots were out? I'm probably wrong though.

I've been back to gp today about me still bleeding. She gave me some tablets that should stop it in a few days. Once its stopped i have to get my smear done.

FlameNFurter · 02/01/2008 17:25

for still bleeding.

Contagious until spots scab over

Phoenix · 02/01/2008 17:26

Ah, knew i'd get it wrong.

mustmakeyouamanmore · 02/01/2008 17:47

Better to have had cp now that when she's older though really. Not that that'll make you feel any better!

We've just been watching Mika on dvd Ds1 has perfected his 'Mika skeleton dance'

FlameNFurter · 02/01/2008 17:51

Right - I'm going to tesco in a bit. We are having pasta n veggie stuff.

My kids will eat it, but will also eat sausages and something potatoey if that is a DS1 preference.

So - what am I feeding you (and please don't tell me "you don't have to feed us" or "don't go to any trouble" or I will be forced to phone you - when I hate phones - and speak to DS1 himself to ask HIM what he wants to eat )

mustmakeyouamanmore · 02/01/2008 18:03

I could be like csws and bring my own picnic

Ds1 says he wants butties and 'she's very kind letting us come to her house' But he'll eat what he's given or go hungry. So will I.

Must remember to take ticket ref number...

Must find clothes to wear...
