Phoenix · 01/01/2008 17:28

Happy New Year everyone

Well ds is all snotted up and coughing like me now He woke up crying about 11pm and sounded very chesty so i gave him some medised to help him sleep and he slept til 7.50 this morning then he went back to sleep in our bed til 8.30. He's also had a good 2 hour nap this afternoon.

Flame - for your dh leaving you in bed.

no one texted me last night (might have something to do with none of you having my number ) I've got csws number in my phone from the piss up (in case we got lost) but i didn't text her incase she wondered who the hell it was from

Phoenix · 01/01/2008 18:58

OMG i've just discovered i know the cbeebies goodnight song word for word, how did that happen

FlameNFurter · 01/01/2008 19:02

I knew that from when DD was only a couple of months old - you;re slackin

Phoenix · 01/01/2008 19:05

I work til 7pm 5 days a week.

Phoenix · 01/01/2008 19:07

And i do my best to avoid cbeebies when i'm off

FlameNFurter · 01/01/2008 19:16

Bah, excuses

CantSleighWontSleigh · 01/01/2008 19:33

Anyone around who can tell me how chickenpox appears and how to treat (does it need GP?)?

FlameNFurter · 01/01/2008 19:36

Normally one spot on back/face then more a couple of hours (possibly a day) later (but if you miss the first one it will just be a rush iyswim...

They will get blistery and spread fast. No real need to see GP if you are sure that is what it is - mine seem to keep getting random spots that look like it, but it never develops - developing is the key.

Calamine lotion to dab and baths in something (I am thinking bicarb but that could kill her or something equally as interesting )

FlameNFurter · 01/01/2008 19:48

Is it wrong to be really bitter about my stepsisters?

They are single mums, one is working/in college, the other not.

Both have flats - not huge but fine for one and baby iyswim.

They can afford to buy new furniture etc (rather than mine and DH's house of charity shop/people chucking out).

They can go to concerts every month or so (not little concerts, £20-£30 a ticket ones), they go out drinking once a week/fortnight (there is rarely a weekend when my dad doesn't have one, other or both babies there).

I don't want them miserable, but I do want to know where all their money comes from. I strongly suspect it comes from "help" from their mum - eg the money that my dad earns.

I know they have had him as a dad living with them for pretty much their whole lives (and longer than he was with us for), but every now and then, when I am shuffling money to cover all the bills for the month and craving takeaway, I feel like it should be me getting some help.

He f*cked off and left us, raised someone else's children more attentively than he ever did us, now my mum is worried sick about how she will live without fostering, we are a lot better off than we were but it would still be nice to have the odd bit of help.

Just occasionally I look and think - I want that life. I want the dad that they had.

Sorry - I can't offload on main MN because although I am 99.9% sure they don;t know about it, I can't risk big family feuds.

Frizbe · 01/01/2008 20:18

HAPPY NEW YEAR all

{{{hugs}}} Flame, that's a tough one...I can only speak from my experience with dh here, and he tries to treat ss the same as the girls..... for you to see this, I'm guessing your dad may not properly 'know' how much monetary help your stepmum is giving the girls? (ie my dad still is none the wiser that my mum snuck money out of their account to pay for my wedding dress, he's a tight northerner)

MRM have fun at the seaside!

EPPM at your very early fireworks, ours only kicked off about 11:30 very close to dd2's window, but she still didn't wake (saved herself till 3am, sigh..... ended up sleeping on dh for most of the night, as he was too tired to argue Have given him stern talking too about us both sleep training her tonight onwards..)

Jas, like the new name you keeping it?

CSWS you gave up mumsnet for an evening, both of you hope the bailey's was nice, did you watch Jools?

Hi Phoenix, to hear ds is poorly.

Hi Macca was the run good (you nutter running on nyd )

Here's hoping the boiler chap can come to us tomorrow girls, not fancying snow with still no hot water or heating
We did the pub early last night for a meal with my parents and some friends, then home for 8.30ish (hence my quick post on here, then dh, ss and I played Risk till 11:45, before watching Jools Holland etc) put ss to bed at 12:15, we went to bed at 1am then dd2 joined us at 3am
Dh is a love though, he let me lie in till 9.30am bless him

Frizbe · 01/01/2008 20:25

Ohhh got rid of the two downstairs stairgates today (kitchen and bottom of stairs) still shocked as to how large the doorways/entries look again

CantSleighWontSleigh · 01/01/2008 20:34

at how much Baileys you drank mrm! How was the head this morning?

Well we're not completely sure if it's chickenpox or not, but sounds like it could well be. One spot appeared just below her nappy line at the front, I thought the day before yesterday, but maybe it was only yesterday . I thought she'd just had a bit of food drop down her front and rub her, but tonight when dh undressed her for her bath, he noticed a few teeny tiny red spots appearing on her torso, one on her back, one under her arm, and a couple round her girly bits. Given her some calpol in case it bothers her in the night, and if they're up properly in the morning then will get some piriton syrup, which a trawl of the archives has recommended. It appears to be oats in a sock for the bath as the top recommendation flame, but I think you're right that bicarb is also an option.

Dh is also feeling unwell and itchy tonight, but he's fairly sure he's had cp before . He's gone to bed already, and I need an early night, as we're not getting much sleep at the moment.

It's been a long time with no heating now Friz - really hope they turn up for you tomorrow.

Hope Lewis is feeling brighter tomorrow Phoenix.

Flame - I'm always curious in situations like that too. Sounds like there must be some help coming from somewhere. Why not ask your dad straight out?

Phoenix · 01/01/2008 20:34

Why won't ds have medicine of any description anymore? He's always wanted a spoon whenever he see's a bottle (which i don't give obv) but now he's ill i'm having to struggle to get some in his mouth. He ends up wearing more than he swallows.

CantSleighWontSleigh · 01/01/2008 20:35

lol - dd took it with less fuss than ever tonight .

EachPeachPearMum · 01/01/2008 20:37

Flame- for sarnie- you're soo lucky! I woke dh at 12- hadn't actually realised it was that late as the clock in the living room had stopped, but dd kept saying 'Papa up! Papa get up now!'

Misread mrm's post as having 2 amish lads! need to read more slowly I think (am finishing off champagne from last night!)

Flame- forecast here has now changed- and we have snow for 2 days! so it must have moved north (I'm assuming yr visiting psycho, and using her pc rather than just stealing her nick?) Sorry for your family problems- can't really help, never been in same situation. Maybe namechange and post a thread for advice, though it may turn into a slanging match? DH's father never wanted or acknowledged him though, and he found that he wasn't actually sad or upset when he died- he always says that his mum was a Mum and a Dad... and she is a great parent.

Phoenix- what do you do until 7pm each night? (feeling sorry for you though...)

csws- hope its not chickenpox! FWIW dd has 2 random spots on her back this eve... chickenpox seemed to make the rounds of every baby I know last year, though dd didn't get it (think half her nursery did though) I haven't had it either and really don't want it.

DontDreamItBeIt · 01/01/2008 20:40

Wasjust abou o post for csws menioning piriton and porridge oats, but see you don't need me.
Calamine is a waste of time.

Frizbe · 01/01/2008 20:41

CSWS yep sorry forgot the pox bit whilst I was reading... if dd does have it bicarb of soda works great in the bath. It's doing the rounds up here too, dd1's mate has it.

Dd2 just yelled, 'its dark' didn't even know she knew that word ??? can you guess whose not asleep yet????

EachPeachPearMum · 01/01/2008 20:41

cross posts- Friz- still no heating????

Frizbe · 01/01/2008 20:42

think someone once mentioned aloe vera on the spots? but dunno if any good or not? off to watch the Heroes pilot with dh anyway, catch ya all tomorrow!

Frizbe · 01/01/2008 20:42

I am going honest! no, EPPM, still no heating, builders n plumbers fortnight
