@RandomCatGenerator swimming was great, he loved it. Just chilling in the water, wore him out though - managed 20-30 mins before he was sleepy/hungry (he was 7 weeks).
We also used the warm in one wetsuit from splash about. He definitely wasn't cold at any point and plan to keep using it. I would size up as the reviews suggest, we got M 3-6 months but fits him length wise already!

sarah13xx · 02/11/2021 20:31

Oh I didn’t see the recommendation to size up @Smallbean27 it was a shift and a half to get him in it 🙈 he’s 12 weeks and I got 3-6 months

PurplePansy05 · 02/11/2021 23:23

@RandomCatGenerator I third the warm Splash About wetsuit (fleece lined), DS managed 40 mins in a leisure pool in temp around 30C. He's 3 months old now and I got him size 3-6m. He's tall but this size still suits him fine. From what I discussed with my friends all babies this age wear warm wetsuits at swimming classes.

We live close to the coast and will be taking DS to the beach regularly from as early as possible next year. I have looked into this already and bought DS a different wetsuit with a matching hat for the warmer months, it has the appropriate UV protection. If I were you, I'd be looking at this as well as making sure he's warm enough. xx

Just been looking at the splash about ones - they're so expensive! Does anyone have any cheaper recommendations? I wouldn't mind but he grows so fast!

PurplePansy05 · 03/11/2021 00:23

@Daffodil21 Where are you looking? They're around £24 on Amazon. Friend's DD had a cheaper wetsuit which wasn't as warm and she lasted about 10mins before getting cold. I don't know if there's anything out there equally good and cheaper, but I guess the difficulty is checking the thickness before buying. Perhaps your local pool sells a variety of brands so you could pop in to compare first? xx

@wimbler Do you have a tray for your Tripp Trapp? I'm wondering if it's worth buying or whether to stick to using the table. It gets mixed reviews xx

@RandomCatGenerator we've been swimming. Took DD last weekend to a local leisure centre. She wore a little swimmers nappy ( always thought the name for these was very ironic) and a wetsuit from joules no fleece or anything but covers half of the arms and half of the legs. We spent half hour in there she didn't cry once and absolutely loved it. Kicking her little legs away. Can't wait to take her again

@PurplePansy05 yes I'm okay thanks wasn't really bad as he was just watching tv most of the day which I felt bad about but he was off school poorly and that's what you do right ?!🤷🏼‍♀️ just got his PCR test back now and it's negative so not sure whether to send him to school tomorrow or not. He's fine in himself other than a Cold and he didn't eat much at all yesterday which is very unlike him. Xx

Ready2020 · 03/11/2021 03:04

I'm awake again with restless legs! I thought they were improving but it seems a bad night for them. I think it might be to do with the amount of sugar I had today. More than the normal plus OH insists on the thermostat being at 20 degrees and this is a warm house anyway. Our lounge doesn't get the sun in the winter so it feels colder there but the heat rises and the bedroom gets quite warm even without the radiator on.

DD was fine after her vaccinations today. Cried a lot but soon settled and was smiling by the time we left the Dr's. And no other symptoms today. Much different than the 8 week ones.

Daffodil21 · 03/11/2021 03:13

@PurplePansy05 I was looking on Amazon. They have the suit with nappy for £30 which I think is expensive considering it'll probably only fit him like 5 times if we go regularly 😂

PurplePansy05 · 03/11/2021 06:05

@Daffodil21 You must be looking at a different wetsuit then. The fleece lined ones are definitely £24 on Amazon, I just checked the price of mine. Here's the link explaining the differences between the Splash About ones:
www.splashabout.com/helpcentre/baby-wetsuits/guide-baby-wetsuits

I bought him a wetsuit with a built in nappy for next year when he'll use it more in the summer. xx

Hi everyone! Been a bit awol, last few weeks have been so busy! Baby groups, holidays, weddings, staying with in laws etc. we have decided we need a bigger car!!! Honestly cannot believe how much stuff this baby has 😂

He’s been so good, for the last 2 weeks he’s been sleeping 7-7, then the clocks changed and it’s 7-6 atm, trying the get him to sleep later in the morning but he’s not having it. He did his first modelling shoot last week too and it was SO cute (I modelled til my mid 20s and am still in touch with my old agent, so it was pure nepotism that he got on the books!). He’s 3 months now and I can’t believe how chatty and smiley he is, time is just going too quick, how can I slow it down?!

Did any babies dress up for Halloween? Baby was a monster and a pumpkin. Looking at Christmas outfits now 😂

We’re not starting swimming til January, had no idea there was so much choice in swimsuit! Bet all the babies look so cute in them 🥰

Are all your babies using a high chair now? I think we’re going to buy one but too much choice! Also if anyone is still looking at travel cots, baby’s next to me is a travel cot, maxi cosi iora and it’s great xx

Inmypjsagain · 03/11/2021 08:41

@Ready2020 I get fidgety legs- I take magnesium and I find a hot water bottle helps, when my legs get cold I fine it’s worse for some reason. I find stretching before bed helps too xx

Smurf123 · 03/11/2021 08:51

Another one for the splash about warm in one. I love it and have had it for both ds and dd, ds still has one of their toddler ones for the beach and it's great. I feel they last a while in each size and ds is tall for his age. I got dd the 3-6 months one and she has loads of room in it.
I had one of the cheaper wraps for ds and while it kept him a little bit warmer he was still going blue from cold after about 15 mins in the swimming pool and crying so ended up with the warm in one anyway so went straight to it for dd
I wrote a big reply yesterday but then lost it before I posted 😩
Our hv was here at 6 weeks gp check at 8 weeks and hv back for 12-14 week visit next week (dd will be 15 weeks on Saturday)
We are off to forest babies today .. with me luck . I'm not quite sure how it will go being solo with a baby and a 3 year old in an open forest with a campfire but ds loves being outdoors so I want to try

Smurf123 · 03/11/2021 08:55

@PurplePansy05 I have the Tripp trap tray and liked it though we didn't use it alot, usually ds just went in at the table but I found it useful if we had guests over for dinner or also as dh tends to serve everything family style still in their sauce pan/ pot so the tray meant I could sit ds further out if there was hot things on the table etc (worth bearing in mind though our table is tiny we just have got round to upgrading it yet)

Inmypjsagain · 03/11/2021 08:55

Oh health visitor we’ve seen twice, 2 day check and 10 day check and that’s it til he’s 1. He had a dr check up at 8 week jabs and saw the nurse for 12 weeks. As with everything maternity, it’s far less than I thought!

@Smurf123 hope forest babies goes well, it sounds fun! Sure they’ll love it

PurplePansy05 · 03/11/2021 09:03

@Smurf123 Great points - thank you so much! Can I ask did you buy the harness or the leg extenders at all? I bought the baby set already and from what I'm reading online many people say that's enough and no harness needed? Also feel like the leg extenders are unnecessary (but might be wrong)? xx

@PurplePansy05 we have been invited to a few close friends childrens birthdays but mainly first birthdays as those are the ones some parents seem to make a big deal about 😂 and summer ones more so too as they are usually outside or in a garden with a bbq so not confined to a venue and paying per person if that makes sense. Can’t wait to have a summer birthday baby. Makes life so much easier than dd who is December. Options are far more limited!

wimbler · 03/11/2021 09:55

@PurplePansy05 yes I have the tray. We have the grey one to match the chair. We used it for the first year and it was good but as I’ve said before the suction weaning stuff doesn’t work with it. Not a big deal except I’d bought stuff first without realising! I didn’t always feed her at the table in the first year so I liked having the tray. We weaned in summer too so were outside a lot and wouldn’t have wanted her eating off the wooden garden table.

Big tip (if you don’t have a dog to clear up the mess😂) is to get a big piece of oil cloth to go on the floor. The mess is unreal!

wimbler · 03/11/2021 09:58

@Inmypjsagain not using a high chair yet. For the ones we have he’s far too young still. Tried him in the ikea one and he just flipped forward and would have head butted the table/tray. Until they are close to sitting on their own they’re not ready to wean anyway so we won’t try good until 6 months I think. We don’t have the newborn attachment for the tripp trap either. We put the bjorn bouncer on the table (way away from the edges!) if we are eating and he’s awake. But he’s asleep when we eat dinner anyway so it’s never been a problem for us

wimbler · 03/11/2021 10:00

@PurplePansy05 another one from me 😂 we didn’t need the harness to start with but the way the footrest works, dd was able to stand up in the chair quite early and then started climbing out (pre walking age ) so we had to buy it. I’d buy it to be honest as every time she stood up I had a small heart attack in the beginning 😂

BertieBotts · 03/11/2021 10:13

I have this one, I bought it with present money. It was good but smaller than expected - gutting!

closeparent.com/collections/bath-swim/products/baby-cosy

Maybe look second hand? FB marketplace, friends with older kids, ebay, vinted.

BertieBotts · 03/11/2021 10:18

I do find the swimsuits so expensive but we rarely go swimming. Once they're hardy enough to cope with the temperature I just stick them in a normal one.

Daffodil21 · 03/11/2021 10:35

@BertieBotts I'm an idiot. I didn't even think of looking on marketplace! There's one in 3-6 months and another 6-9 months for £5 in my town 😂

Daffodil21 · 03/11/2021 10:39

What nappy do you pair with the splash around wetsuits?? Im totally clueless

BertieBotts · 03/11/2021 11:31

Perfect :)

Most brands do a disposable swim nappy. You can actually reuse them a few times because they don't contain wee, only poo, although I never actually got through a pack until we started doing swimming lessons.
