I'd continue taking them without a break too, this might not be a period as Bertie says.

Beetie, how is Leo? I wouldn't know where to start with diarrhoea, are you trying to feed jim little but often to make sure he's not dehydrated? It's tough. Your poor little ones ❤

@BertieBotts my DD poo are always like diarrhoea 🥴 so so runny and nearly always escape the nappies

Ready2020 · 16/10/2021 02:41

Yeah my DD has runny poop most the time. It's breastfeeding I think ish it? We had a major poop explosion in Starbucks today! All up her legs and back!

BertieBotts · 16/10/2021 07:43

Yes his poo is normally runny (liquid diet will do that) but it looks different to normal and really seems to upset him when it comes out, also stinks like rotten eggs.

Advice is to feed as much as they want/as much as poss if breastfeeding, I think you can give them pedialyte if formula feeding, then just keep an eye out for signs of dehydration as that would be an indication to go to A&E. TBH when kids are sick I always just go and read the NHS page for that illness as it's usually helpful :)

Touch wood Leo (3yo) seems better this morning so he is eating as normal. But the 13yo has been throwing up all night. It's all fun and games at our house!

PurplePansy05 · 16/10/2021 08:08

My DS's poops look like soup now too and he's had a massive one again yesterday. Is it a result of BF or does feeding not make a difference? His digestive system is maturing as well, I think. He seems to go every 2 days now which isn't too bad, but his poos still are so massive and he struggles to push them through. We always know when it's coming, he gets cranky, is strained and difficult to settle for a few hours and then boom, happy baby afterwards. It's hard to watch him struggle. Is this all perfectly normal?

Oh gosh, so all three of your boys are affected, Bertie? I thought just the youngest two, but I guess it's unavoidable. How was Alex overnight? Glad Leo is getting better xx

Someone posted this on a breast feeding group I'm on and I'm now questioning it myself...

Hi all, someone has mentioned to me that my little girl who is 10 weeks old and ebf may have an intolerance to cows milk protein. The symptoms are as follows:

-Dry red bumpy cheeks
-She did have dry skin between eyebrows (not the same as the cheeks more orange and dry rather than red) until around 8 weeks this has now cleared.
-A slight rash on her chest and neck that looked like baby acny (again not the same as cheeks more dotty) at around 6-8 weeks also now cleared
-she poos about 6-8 times a day always quite runny and mustard coloured
-takes ages to bring burps up and often has hard belly

  • hiccups alot
-sometimes kicks and fusses at the breast but not always -her breathing to me seems a little wheezy at times

Are the above strong indications for CMPA?

BertieBotts · 16/10/2021 08:54

All of that sounds like totally normal newborn baby to me, but I'm not experienced with CMPA. I thought for allergies they would tend to be really unsettled and windy a lot of the time.

Some people online do seem obsessed with CMPA and suggest it at the slightest hint of anything when there's really no indication anything is wrong.

lucyrp · 16/10/2021 09:10

@BertieBotts I thought the same but just wondered what everyone else's opinions were, I'm sure my son was similar

sarah13xx · 16/10/2021 09:17

I’m pretty sure this is my period, either that or I’m just bleeding to death (which is how it feels) 😩😂 I kept going with the pills last night thanks! We’ve got a day out booked today at a park and lunch but I was having breakfast and have had to come back to bed to lie down. It’s so painful when I stand up 🤦🏼‍♀️ Forgot what period pain was like and how awful it makes you feel! I’ve taken some paracetamol and hoping that helps, if not this is not going to be a very fun day out 🙄

Magik01 · 16/10/2021 09:26

Isaac slept really well last night hooray! From 12ish until 4:30 and then once he fed until half 8. Feel great from actually having no a good sleep!

It balanced out yesterday as DS1 was a right pain all day 😂 So argumentative and just bring a devil child for the day! If I drank I would have had a very large glass of wine last night! Today’s a new day and I hope he’s in a better mood. His nanny is having him overnight tonight as well.

Hope everyone is doing okay!

BertieBotts · 16/10/2021 10:35

With the struggling to poo, DS2 did this, it was infant dyschezia I think. They have to coordinate two reflexes, pushing and relaxing their sphincter at the same time and often they don't manage to line them up with the result being a lot of unproductive pushing! Apparently the screaming is effort and not pain.

I think all their poo is runny to paste-like at this age, but I've not had a fully FF baby so can't compare. We tend to get little curds in the poo which is normal for breastfed babies.

PurplePansy05 · 16/10/2021 14:10

Ok that's reassuring thanks Bertie. There are some curds in his poop too, that might be bf. A lot of it is very thick soup consistency though, smooth which is different to say pesto type poop earlier on xx

Ruining a lot of foods for us there @PurplePansy05 😂

PurplePansy05 · 16/10/2021 15:09

Lol sorry 🤣 Curry is ruined for me for good too @Daffodil21!

What interesting descriptions of poo as food! Peanut butter is out for me too…!

Oh @BertieBotts I’m sorry - sounds miserable. All the best to you and the rest of the household for swift recoveries all around Flowers

Daffodil21 · 16/10/2021 18:46

@RandomCatGenerator I was going t say peanut butter too but I didn't want to put anyone else off 😂😂

Smurf123 · 16/10/2021 18:55

@lucyrp that all alone exactly like my dd and I don't really have any cows milk in my diet so I know she doesn't have that. It all sounds like normal newborn to me also.
I did have cmpa as a child and the symptoms were more constant greenish mucusy nappies, blood in stools, rash, constant crying, zero sleep (my mum says I literally cat napped for a max of 20 mins day or night), poor weight gain, vomiting

Dd had all of the things you mentioned, still does have the snuffily breathing but it is definitely helped by the gaviscon, the rest cleared up about the week 8-10 mark. Still a few wee red raised bumps on her cheeks but they come and go.

Well the gaviscon had sent our nappies one way until today when dd has had 2 huge poop explosions 🙈

sarah13xx · 16/10/2021 20:00

I fully chopped a bit of skin off the top of Freddie’s thumb this morning when I was cutting his nails 😩 I’m getting way more confident at it so was just snipping away with the wee thing his nail goes into then all of a sudden heard the most horrible noise like it wasn’t just nail 😩 He instantly cried and at first I thought I’d ripped the nail at the nail bed and that’s what was hurting.. realised later I’d actually took a chunk out of his skin 😭 googled it, found other terrible parents who have done the same and made myself feel better 🙈

biscuitcat · 16/10/2021 20:54

Loving the poo descriptions 😂 DS seems to be settling into a rhythm of going every day and a half/two days and thick soup is the best description here. Upsettingly it's very similar to my mum's delicious carrot soup, which I hope won't put me off!!

I hope everyone is starting to feel better @BertieBotts - it sounds like a bit of an ordeal xx

Oh no @sarah13xx! I've nicked DS's finger a couple of times when doing his nails and it's just awful, I feel so guilty - hope you've forgiven yourself!

BertieBotts · 16/10/2021 21:11

Oh it's horrible when you catch their fingers, I feel awful when I do that. I think it happens to everyone, they're just so tiny it's hard to avoid.

sarah13xx · 16/10/2021 21:51

Definitely 😭 I won’t be doing it again anyway, doubt if I’ll ever cut his nails again after that 😂

Ready2020 · 17/10/2021 02:40

DD managed to pee and poop over her sleep bag at the night feed and change Sad so I'm starting from scratch to get her to sleep . She never stays asleep properly after waking at this time.

I've not tried to cut her nails! Too scared lol

Millymay13 · 17/10/2021 04:26

@Ready2020 oh no! Every night I have visions of DS peeing all over his sleeping bag when I change him. I felt like I was being particularly risky tonight because for the first time I hadn’t finished washing and drying his other sleeping bag of the same tog…oh how my perception of ‘risky’ has changed since DS was born 😂

@sarah13xx nail clipping is such a high stress activity! Clipping little fingers is bound to be something that will happen to most if not all of us, but it doesn’t make you feel any better when you do it! I have considered getting one of those electric nail files to use instead to reduce the risk of trimming fingers instead of nails, but I feel a bit scared of those too (although maybe it’s because I’m remembering he electric nail file I bought from boots in the 90’s…maybe things have moved on since then 😆)

notinthestarsigns · 17/10/2021 04:35

@Ready2020 we have just had a projectile vomit on the sleeping bag! DD been up since 3am and no sign of going back to sleep now, I’ve just put her in the carrier so hopefully can get her to sleep in here and then transfer to the crib. Our other sleeping bag was in the wash aswell, think we may need more than two!

notinthestarsigns · 17/10/2021 04:54

I’m sitting here searching for cute Christmas outfits for dd, what else to do when up at this time 😂 so many but she is just about to go in to 0-3 clothes now so impossible to know whether she will be in 0-3 or 3-6 at Christmas.
