@Millymay13 100% recommend the nail file, mine is battery operated and I wouldn't be without it. DS's nails grow fast and he needs them filed regularly. It never hurt him and I can't see how it would even though I'm clumsy and he wriggles a lot. We've avoided most face scratches thanks to it and it will last years as it has different heads for different age groups (it'd the Minimani one). Also has a little built in light so you can see better, it helps me! xx

We only have 2 bags as well. Well 2 1 togs that she's still in. I think the 2.5 tog will be too much until deepest winter, if that really as we'll have the heating on. Might buy a couple 1.5 tog.

Once asleep by being walked around DD slept not too bad actually. If it weren't for the darn dummy needing to be popped back in I'd have slept well too! Up for a feed then hopefully Dow again for a bit.

BertieBotts · 17/10/2021 09:30

We have 4 sleeping bags (left over from last time) and regularly get down to the last one! One has just broken as well - the zip came off in the washing machine. But I don't have a tumbler drier and they take a couple of days to dry being so thick.

For night changes I tend to tuck a folded muslin in under the bum but inside the bag. If you're quick you can hold it up to catch a boy-wee and then whip it out quickly so it doesn't soak through to the bag. Would not work for a backwards one though like girls do (and poor Alex half the time with his wonky willy lol)

Daffodil21 · 17/10/2021 09:54

I take him out of the bag to change - changing in the bag is definitely living on the edge 😂

I take him out for the feed (he'd dribble all over it if not!) and then change mid-feed or sometimes before if I'm waiting for milk to warm and he's crying already anyway 😂🙈

Does everyone do night feeds and changes in the bag?! We were given a load of lighter tog ones and have two 2.5tog, but we have a tumble drier so it's only so we have one back up in the night if needed

Daffodil21 · 17/10/2021 09:59

Has anyone got any recommendations for high chairs? I'm looking to buy one now so I can put him in it while I'm in the kitchen. Atm I put him in his bouncy chair but he's so low down and can't see anything. I also think it would help us for mealtimes if he was sat up with us and could see what we're doing - he seemed to like this when my mum held him up the table instead of him being on the floor in the bouncy chair where he was making a fuss.

I'm liking the look of the miniuno yumos plus high chair atm.

Also does anyone know if 'suitable from birth' is just because they can recline to a flat position? DS is fairly robust and has been able to support his head for ages. But obviously he can't sit up independently just yet! @BertieBotts I feel like this is something you'll know 😀

PurplePansy05 · 17/10/2021 10:24

What do you mean changing in the bag? As in only unzipping it to change the nappy? Yes, we do that. I just open the fresh nappy first and it's a quick swap, if even needed - he doesn't normally get changed during the night and doesn't poo in his sleep either so it's never messy. For dribbles I just put a folded up muslin cloth over the changing mat where his head goes and it's very easy to catch dribbles/bit of sick then without soaking the sleeping bag or his outfit. He will not bf in the sleeping bag as he likes to have a bit more space. Will take a bottle from DH in the bag no problem though (and always does) xx

Ready2020 · 17/10/2021 10:30

How many hours would you leave the nappy on over night then? DD goes down at about 7 ish and gets changed at 2am ish then up at any time from 7.30 onwards. Though today she just fell asleep on the bed next to me and we had a lovely Sunday sleep in.

I'm not sure about leaving the nappy on for 12 hours.

I BF in the bag and she doesn't seem to mind. It can get a bit dribbley but not much. She's a very efficient feeder at night most of the time. I guess OH must change her in the bag before he brings her up given the accident this morning!

Ready2020 · 17/10/2021 10:33

@notinthestarsigns I just got a pair of Blade and Rose santa leggings and socks and will find a red long sleeve vest or something. That's the extent of DDs Christmas outfit! Though I do have a dress for her that can look Christmassy. It was a gift.

Daffodil21 · 17/10/2021 10:43

@PurplePansy05 tbf he never poos in the night either so we probably could do it in the bag, it just never occurred to me! He's not dribbly when he lays down but he is during a feed so I take the bag off.

@Ready2020 I wouldn't leave it 12 hours either, I'd love to but I think he would leak. He gets changed about 10pm, then at the next feed which is 3/4am (yay!) and then again first thing in the morning.

I bought DS a really cute pj set with dressing down and rain deer toy from primark, and my husband bought a Santa onesie in the sale while I was pregnant 😂 he'll probably be too big for it though 🙈 the primark set is super cute!

PurplePansy05 · 17/10/2021 10:50

DS goes to bed when we do, usually around 11pm and either sleeps a 6 hr stretch (ish) and wakes for a feed - we change him before that feed if so - or sleeps through till 7am or later sometimes - in which case we change him when he wakes up in the morning. xx

OP posts:
PurplePansy05 · 17/10/2021 10:52

DS has two Christmas outfits and a Santa hat in size 3-6, we'll see how we fare with that the way he's growing now 🙈 xx

BertieBotts · 17/10/2021 11:03

Yes usually suitable from birth means you can lie flat in it. If something says suitable from 3 months it tends to mean it has a semi reclined position. Otherwise most main highchair seats are 4-6 months if they're fully upright.

Do all feeds in the bag here and tend to change once or twice in the night. I'd like to go all night as I did with my others but he gets a rash and tends to leak as well. Also he gets really uncomfortable which means he doesn't feed properly which is annoying, or he over feeds and then is sick.

To get 12 hours in a nappy it does have to be a more expensive one like Pampers or the + sizes (usually begins at size 4). You won't get 12 hours from the supermarket brand ones even the premium ones.

BertieBotts · 17/10/2021 11:04

We have a little Harry potter costume for Halloween :o does anyone else plan to dress up? I don't do anything for it really but my sister got me that for DS2 so I'll use it again!

biscuitcat · 17/10/2021 11:11

We've got Christmas outfits from Next, super cute little elf and Santa suits! My sister is getting married the week before Christmas and he'll be wearing them to her wedding too 😍 we also have a Halloween onesie which my mum bought - bright orange and glow in the dark!

I feed him in the sleeping bag at night, and he doesn't object, which is good. We don't usually do a nappy change overnight so haven't found that to be a problem.

@Daffodil21 we've got a Maxi Cosi Minla, it's so useful! Not cheap, though less than something like the Tripp Trapp plus newborn addition bit, but I wouldn't be without it now, it's so nice not having to bend down to floor level to chat to him in the kitchen

Daffodil21 · 17/10/2021 11:28

@BertieBotts we have a Harry Potter onesie for hallowe'en too! My friend bought it for him and insists we put him in it on hallowe'en 😂 I wouldn't normally have thought of dressing him up, but as I'm under strict instruction...

Thanks for info about high chairs. We're now looking at a Joie one that also converts to various things including a little table and chair for when he's older.

Thanks @biscuitcat - the Joie one we're looking at looks similar to yours (though not quite as fancy!) it matches his bouncy chair which is probably a little unnecessary really. That's my thought about a high chair now - the ones we're looking at are more expensive than I expected to pay, but I do think we'll get the use out of it

Smurf123 · 17/10/2021 11:28

Dd is in 2.5 tog sleeping bag and I only have the one in this size have 2 from 6 months plus.
We feed in the sleeping bag as I think it would disturb her too much to take her out abs she is rarely changed at night but she is in pampers and tbh she has been sleeping 10-7 and rarely has a feed during the night atm. She hasn't leaked though it is certainly full by morning. Would absolutely change if soiled but that is rare.

notinthestarsigns · 17/10/2021 14:46

Dd is in 2.5 tog sleeping bag but at the moment I am only putting baby gro underneath and then when it gets colder I will layer with vest aswell. We feed and nappy change with bag on, as I worry that she would be wide awake in the night if I took it off and put it back on. Unless she has done a poo then we often don’t change between about 11 and 5, but that is probably the longest I would go without a nappy change. We have just been for a lovely meal at the steak restaurant round the corner from our house whilst dd slept. Whilst it wasn’t the easiest night last night we have had a lovely couple of days with her, feel like sometimes I only mention the hard times so important to talk about the good days too!

notinthestarsigns · 17/10/2021 14:52

On highchairs, we also have the maxi cosi minks, not sure we would have spent that much if it wasn’t for us having John Lewis vouchers that needed using up but it is handy having one that we can use now, as we often eat at the breakfast bar so means we can put dd in it then (when she is in the right mood!)

Ready2020 · 17/10/2021 17:13

Is anyone else’s body just aching Hmm Mine just hurts all over. I guess it's not getting a full rest at night and doing lots of walking but bar a massage I'm not sure what else to do.

PurplePansy05 · 17/10/2021 17:40

Well, we've just ticked off the first trip to Ikea together! DS was a dream, slept all the way through in his Ergobaby carrier, mind you I felt his weight now. It was nearly like being 9 months pregnant again with all his extra weight at the front 🤣 Also, I was wearing a lightish jumper and he was in a vest, babygrow and an M&S cardi and just a word of warning if you go in the shops - he was too hot. I should have checked sooner, when I checked his chest was too warm. xx

Yes. I feel like my neck has no movement any more and am worried I’m getting a hunch. Always stiff.
sarah13xx · 17/10/2021 18:05

Just going to catch up on these comments!

Had totally not heard of that nail file, I have the wee one you attach to your finger but they need done about every second day the rate they grow. Might need to look at getting the electric one

We do changes in the sleeping bag too. I haven’t been peed on in weeks, feel like I have some sort of personal record going 😂 I open the nappy and put it under the nappy before opening it then just whip the wet one off to wipe him. I put him down about half 11 and (touch wood) haven’t been doing any night feeds the last couple of weeks. He gets up about 8 🙈 Went to visit my friend and her 3 week old and he’s up every 2 hours, I actually avoided mentioning what he sleeps because I felt so guilty 🙈 Sorry anyone who’s still on a few hours at a time! I’m sure my time will come, again 😂

Daffodil21 · 17/10/2021 18:16

Wow @sarah13xx those night time hours are the absolute dream!!! DS isn't tooo bad tbf but that sounds so good!

Ready2020 · 17/10/2021 18:51

We seem to put DD down early.... but she's ready to sleep then so we just go with it.

Booked a massage for Wednesday. Can't wait!

sarah13xx · 17/10/2021 19:07

@Daffodil21 I don’t want to jinx it but he’s been managing it every night since about 6 and a half weeks I think. He still never wakes for a feed at 11/11:30 though but I just wake him up so he doesn’t wake me at 2ish. Waiting on him starting teething or something and the whole thing just going to pot🙈
