quick update & seeking advice too...
DD had terrible tummy bug & evil cough for over a week finally on mend then DS came down with it but getting better now so normality and more time on the web will resume soon hopefully! Sad though that so much of DD's hard-won weight has been lost- BUT she's eating like itws going out of fashion now hurrah

Advice please: my first period since DD's birth was 6 or so weeks ago but very light (4 days long) then 12 days ago I started what I assumed was my second period. Very heavy (more like a normal period) and more tummy cramps etc. BUT it is still ongoing, and still pretty heavy and painful. Anyone else had evil periods post childbirth? A friend wondered if it's worse because I've now had 2 c-sections.... Note I'm still BFing DD 1-2 times per day.

Hope you & your LOs are doing well! xxxx

madmum - I can't remember when my periods came back so I can't help - but if you're worried please go and see your GP.

Glad to hear your dd is better - and eating heartily. It is horrible to watch them when they are sick and I know I worry constantly about how much food/milk etc. It must be a huge relief to see her better - but then your poor ds

justabout - what was ds1 doing that was awful??!!

Minimeep is well and happy - but have discovered that she might be allergic to tomatoes. It was actually a thread on here that made me realise (wonderful MN!). I replied to someone whose ds had reacted to tomatoes sayung that when I was wee I used to get a rash. Minimeep has been having the most horrid red rash round her mouth and under her chin. I thought it was just a dribble rash.

But we've eliminated tomatoes and it has gone away - hooray! Except that nursery appear to not understand the whole concept - one day they gave her baked beans and one day gave her a jar of Hipp baby food (because she couldn't have the nursery meal) which had a picture of a tomato on the front but apparently no tomatoes in the ingredients - both resulted in the rash again!

Maybe I should let them know what I do for a living - that would soon put a stop to sneaky tomato feeding...........!!!

pulapula · 25/04/2008 20:16

JAM- don't worry about DS1. I felt bad that you only woke him up so my DD could play with him - my DD can be grumpy too if disturbed. We had a nice time, and I look forward to our next meet-up.

DS has just woken- got to dash.

evening ladies.
Thank you all so much for the words of advice about returning to work. I have had a good week this week and spent tons of time with my DS. I think I have my head around going back (big day is Monday).

I don't know who it was that said they resent their SAHM friends. I realised that I have been feeling like that too. I also resented my DH a bit because he doesn't earn enough for me to be a SAHM. I hate the way I feel even admitting that!

Anyway, I think I have my thoughts straight. DH said to take it one day at a time and thats what I plan to do. Trying not to think too hard about it.

GOod news is that we took DS back to St Thomas's Allergy clinic and they have confirmed a cows milk protein allergy with a delayed reaction. So he is staying on Neocate till he is 18 months old. What a relief. He has been eating and sleeping so well since he has been on it.

Meep, Im sorry to hear about the tomato allergy but at least you have established what is causing it. Just got to get the nursery to understand now! OH, and what do you do for a living then? Intrigued now!

Madmum, sorry to hear about your nasty period. I hope its starting to ease up.

I haven't had a period yet!!! Gave up BF 2 weeks ago so I'm sure one is imminent. Probably be when I get back to work!

Well, thanks again for all your help everyone...I love that I can come to this place and let it all out!
Big hugs to you all and hope your LO's are doing okay.

JennsterSlugSlayer · 25/04/2008 22:46

Boll*cks just lost a long post.

MMN I would contact NHS direct 0845 4647 or your GP. 12 day periods aren't normal, but then don't think periods just start back regular as clockwork after a long absence. Not had one for 3 years now.... just started taking folic acid again just in case and thinking of seriously trying again at Christmas. I might get another 18 months of amenorrhoea out of it.

Meep dd had a really nasty contact rash from egg, which seems to have disappeared after a few months. It started off slightly red, next time a bit worse, third time swollen face and hives. We laid off it for ages and then made sure it was fully cooked when she had it again and there isn't any problem now. She had a mild reaction to tomato too, but nothing now. She loves 'matoes.

meep · 26/04/2008 09:38

MFO - just in case I don't get online again - good luck for Monday! I remember feeling like I was on a sort of holiday on my first day back because it was just so different to the 7 months before!! It soon crashed back into normal work bleurgh though!

I can understand how you feel about being envious and resentful. Unfortunately me and my DH made a decision before minimeep was born to try to climb the property ladder so that we can eventually get the house/area that we want with decent schools(where I live in Scotland the house prices are horrendous!) - so it is partly my own fault for not being able to be a SAHM! But I am still envious of friends who have more than one day off a week.

Now that I'm back at work I realised that I would have gone mad staying at home all week - though I would still like to only do 3 days a week.

what do I do for a living......I sue people!!! Bet that would frighten the nursery! I kept it to myself when I was in hospital having dd just in case I'd sued any of the doctors there and they were nasty to me. Though I have heard that if they realise who you are they treat you with a great deal of care and attention - one person I know had the top consultant with her through the whole delivery!

Glad to hear that your ds's allergy is sorted and being looked after.

Jennster - I had heard that egg can be a problem - I have been too scared to try minimeep with it yet! I know she'll grow out of the tomato allergy - but it is a bugger at the moment because there are so many foodsd (especially jars) with a sneaky wee tomato in there!

Sorry to hear about the possible egg allergies. When I was talking with the nutrionist at St Thomas's she suggested the best way to introduce egg was to give it to them 'in' something rather than just on its own. And if you are introducing a new food, just give a tiny bit every day for about a week before trying something else.

We have to be careful with DS because of his milk allergy...so she suggested I bake him a cake containing an egg (using his nasty formula and a flour that I know he is okay with).

Apparently when egg is cooked in something it is less likely to cause a reaction.

Meep, thats funny! I would have thought it would be in your favour to tell people what you do....I am sure then you would get the very best treatment going!
I too am to blame for not being able to be a SAHM! I was the one that wanted this house knowing full well that we couldn't afford it on DH's salary. BUT, I didn't want to spend the rest of my life in the flat we were in.

Thanks for all your best wishes for Monday. I have woken up today to brilliant sunshine but have a very heavy feeling. I thought I was okay but DH keeps asking me whats wrong so I just had to go and have a good ol' cry in the bathroom! I really must toughen up!

I have had a few phone calls from people I work with telling me they are looking forward to me coming back (mainly because they said it would be a treat to have a cheerful person back in the office!!!!)...I get the impression I was the office clown without even realising it!
Hope I don't dissapoint them!

Okay, better go. LO is asleep and I have a ton of things to get done.

JennsterSlugSlayer · 26/04/2008 19:52

MFO wrt egg that was my experience. No problems at all when cooked in stuff, but luxurious buttery soft scrambled egg where it wasn't fully cooked and solid was what caused the problem. It's funny though. I saw an ENT consultant due to the recurring sinusitis I've had. They did allergy tests on me and he said he had never seen anybody so allergic to so many things (not anaphylactic though). Now that is strange, as I didn't even realise it. I think it's pretty low level, but CONSTANT. Even eggs apparently, but I figure I can live with it, and just have a constantly blocked nose, lots of snot and bad breathe

twoplusone · 26/04/2008 21:11

Hi all,

Hope I havent missed too much.. Just been busy with the children.

lee is doing great crawling every.. doing the the grandprix in his walker and coasting alot..

Take care all.xx

Myfairone · 27/04/2008 15:36

Jennster, still laughing at the vision of you with a snotty nose and bad breathe just to enjoy your egg!
I'm a coeliac with a secondary lactose intolerance...but I'm not a fussy eater!!!!

Twoplusone - wow, thats gone fast! I hope he has a great trip back and gets home safely at the end of his tour.
Great to hear from you.

My tummy goes over every time i think about tomorrow....so not thinking about it!

dorisofdevon · 27/04/2008 22:59

Good luck MFO remember going back last time, ( and dd1 was only with my mum!) it does get better....

MMN -lydie had a d&v bug recently too and all that hard won weight disappeared( we were nearly into the 9th centile too!) but she's recovered and getting the little rolls again which never bothered me with dd1 but lydie's make me smile everytime I see them!
Hope you're doing well and the running is going ok dh is now 'focused' which is just scary, ( so many miles each week, timed miles arrrgghh) although it's all for a good cause

2+1 GREAT NEWS!!! have a great time together

Love to you all Doris

meep · 28/04/2008 20:35

MFO - how did it go today?
More importantly, how was that first cuddle with DS when you picked him up !

2+1 - that is great that your hubby is back soon - you must be counting down the days!

Doris that is v cute about lydie's rolls!!

How heavy are your wee ones? I haven't been to teh Health Visitor for months and months. I weighed me then me plus minimeep and she's about 19lbs - does that sound about right?

I've got a doctor's appointment for her next week so I'll ask then. I'm going to try to insist on a referral to an allergy specialist - her wee face is still flaring up - it's definitely tomatoes, but something else is doing it too.

MFO- i hope your first day was bearable. I found it really hard with DD but much easier with DS.

I think you have to keep reminding yourself of the positives - nice house, a bit of mummy-time, improving LOs social skills/ independence, advancing your career etc- and give it a month to settle down, and if you are still unhappy then, then you can work around it (e.g arrange interest-only payments on the mortgage or a repayment holiday, take a career break/cut hours further etc)

My DH was great and said i could take a career break if i wanted as we'd manage. But after a few weeks, we were all fine.

SNP- who is it? I'm curious. have you tested?

I'm sure it'll be alright? There's only 12mo between me and my sister and my Mum managed (just!). And someone i know with a DS 2 weeks older than mine is due again in July! Although she was/is nervous at the thought.

JennsterSlugSlayer · 28/04/2008 23:09

SNP I think I know who you are. When dd was ds' age, I was pregnant again. 18 months is not that bad!....But we are going to leave it a few more months this time. Hope you get the result you want soon.

More than likely it's the breast feeding Justabout. Have taken a pg test myself in the last month. I'm not sure my boss would be that happy though, me going back to work pg.....
