Hello July ladies, we are here now!!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
meep · 04/03/2008 19:26

MFO - I am a card person too! The lovely thing about nursery is that I have already had a hand made Valentines card and now a hand made Mothers Day card (2 little minimeep handprints - aw!!!)

Hello PPC - welcome back! How is your hairdo coming along - mine has gone crazy - I have about 1/2 an inch of fuzz lurking under my real hair - which is sprouting all along my parting - and giving me a second fringe!!! Lovely!

How is your ds's skin - did the trial help? Wow that he is so tall!

Minimeep's skin seems to be pretty clear these days - I swear by the lavender oil we started putting in her bath - sorted her skin and nappy rash (thanks again for the tip Doris!)

She is also permanently in a bib - lots of drool - but still no teeth!

Right ladies - I need you to give me strength. I have said that I will move minimeep into her own room this weekend - but as it draws near I can feel my resolve weakening!!! Tell me to do it!!!

I have no idea what my problem is with it. I have managed to entrust her to strangers 3 days a week. I even managed to spend my first whole night away from her (was away on a work conference) but I just can't move her into her own room!!!

Myfairone · 04/03/2008 21:59

Meep...how lovely to get the cards!

Maybe I can help here (heaven knows you've given me enough advice!). I too was totally irrational when it came to moving LO into his room. I looked at my DH and swore that he wasn't too big for his moses basket (while all the time ignoring the fact that the poor little sods feet were practically out the bottom!!!

If I remember correctly I cried about that too! (damn hormones)...I came up with every excuse possible to try and keep him in our room but DH put his foot down.

Anyway, after making the move (I got Dh to promise that if DS didn't sleep he would move the cot into our room), DS was so happy in there. He loves it!

It helped me to imagine it from LO's point of view:
1)You will not be disturbing her sleep
2)She won't have to listen to you two moving around when you wake up
3)She can have her own space and get to know that her room is where she sleeps and plays and has so much fun.
4)It doesn't have to be a permanent thing - if either of you are unhappy then move her back and wait till you feel better about it.

The thought of it is worse than actually doing it (isn't that what you told me about going back to work?!
DO it, Do it, do it!!!! and then see how you feel.

Quick question:why are you putting lavender oil in her bath? Does she have bad skin? My lo still has the terrible rash. Going for his appointment next week so hoping they can shed some answers so may ask about lavender oil and if they think it would help.

meep · 04/03/2008 22:14

MFO - I now have a very funny image of your DH trying to squeeze himself into a moses basket (re-read your post - made me smile!)

I know you are talking sense - and I know that the longer I leave it the harder it will get (I am sure I said she would be in there when she turned 6mo...........she is now 8mo ). Her cot fits snuggly at my side of the bed and I just have to reach through and rub her tummy if she has a wee cry in the night.

But you are right - I can give it a go and if it doesn't work it is not that hard to move her back again! (though I am sure we will all be happier!!!)

My friend gave me lavender oil in anticipation of having stitches and said it was good for healing. But with the whilrlwind that is a newborn and the fact that my stitches were in my tummy and not down below, I never had the time or inclination for a bath and the oil sat redundant in my bathroom cabinet!

Then Dorisofdevon suggested using it for nappy rash - which I did and it also seems to have helped with minimeep's ezcema. I hardly have to use creams on her now and her wee legs are smooth and soft again!

It also means that her bath smells nice - as we can't use any bubblebath and I am sure Oilatum was making her worse.

It might all be a coincidence - but it is worth a try. I've got the pure essential oil and just add a couple of drops to an adult sized bath. Keep meaning to pop into a Neals Yard and ask if there is anything else that would help - maybe rose oil?

Myfairone · 05/03/2008 07:44

bwaaaaaaaaaa! yold ya meep, im now totally nuts, cant even put an email together!

i had the same concerns as you when moving my ds...but found that he woke up less during the night as a result of the move.

thanks for the lavender tip...glad to hear minimeep is getting along ok.

gotta go, ds hates me typing and is doing his best to get the keyboard away from me!

MelissaM · 05/03/2008 13:15

Hi all. Hope you and lo's are all ok.

2+1 hope your ear is ok.

DD is much better this week after her brocialitus (sp?) last week. She still has a snotty nose and a horrid cough, but at least I can put her down without her crying and she seems to have her appetite back.

Meep I too didn't want dd to move into her own room even though she happily had most of her naps there during the day. on Christmas eve after the 3rd or 4th night in a row of her waking at 2am singing because she thought it was time to get up, dh picked her up and put her in her cot in her own room (we had a crib in ours which she was starting to get too big for). I think we were waking her moving around. She slept much better afterwards.
I might try the lavender oil tip too. Should help her sleep anyway

MFO - dd keeps trying to take the keyboard from me too (usually although is asleep now) but I think it is because she wants to type too.

Oh - while I remember, another milestone reached here! DD (8mo next Saturday) worked out how to sit up on her own, from lying on her front. Should mean that I don't have to keep picking her up when she over stretches for something now...
... and she is constantly trying to pull herself onto her feet. Really must think about a playpen - anyone got any tips/suggestions?

MelissaM · 05/03/2008 13:20

DD doesn't have any teeth yet but they must be on their way as she is eating her hands and anything else she can get into her mouth (including the table yesterday )

PPC glad your ds is big for his age too. DD was 20lbs7oz thurs (after hardly eating anything all week) and is in 9-12mth clothes. Wouldn't mind if she'd had much wear out of the 6-9 mth stuff but nevermind. also never heard of 'sex drive' here (or so dh keeps reminding me) Not heard of 'Damages' - when is it on?

LieselVonTrapp · 05/03/2008 14:08

I didnt know we had a thread, Ive been looking for one for ages. How are you guys getting on with the teething nights?

Myfairone · 05/03/2008 16:03

lots of teething action here...lo is gumming everything and has two sharp stumps at the bottom! bless him, hes been really cranky all day.

im fat! we're going away in two weeks and so had a big 'try on' this afternoon...don't know why im so fed up because its not like i expected pre prego summer stuff to fit, but knowing it definitely doesn't fit is rather depressing...primark here i come!

hugs to all

meep · 05/03/2008 20:50

I'm fat too
I reckon I have about 2 stone to lose

Hi Liesel!

No teeth for minimeep - but she has been teething forever!

PPC and Melissa - Minimeep is still in some 3-6month clothes - !! She's just a wee thing! Haven't weighed her for ages (as it means weighing myself, which I don't like doing then weighing use together!) but I'm not worried, I think she is just a wee girl!!

Myfairone · 05/03/2008 21:16

im concerned im going to have to buy a whole new wardrobe for going back to work too!

my ds is on the small side too. he is still in mainly 3-6 month clothes...when i had him weighed 2 weeks ago he was 15lb and had put on 1oz in 2 weeks! im not worried because im small (At least i used to be!) but my dh is totally opposite! looks like he takes after me

hi liesel, glad you finally found us.

pulapula · 05/03/2008 21:57

Hi all,

I've just finished my first week back at work (mon-weds) and it was ok really. Might have to go in on friday afternoon or over the weekend to do overtime as we have a report which needs publishing.

I am glad DS had some days at nursery in advance as he's really settled in now. He doesn't drink much milk there but eats and sleeps well. He doesn't seem to miss me!

He's also a big boy- 20lb 12oz last week- bigger than my DD was at age 1. And he's just learnt to clap- very cute.

MelissaM · 06/03/2008 14:58

Hi All - hope you are all having a good day.

Hi Leisel - glad you finally found us!

DD lost weight this week but not surprising really as she hasn't been eating right and is very active. She has just projectile vomited all over us both (after a coughing fit) - poor thing. We both had to have a shower and now she is fast asleep. Seemed happy enough after being sick though, so not too worried. Neighbour is coming round this afternoon with her little boy (6 1/2 mths) so looks like yet again one of them will be sleeping and they won't get to play together. Oh well - last time they played together they both ended up ill!

Pulapula glad your first week back at work went ok.

MFO - I joined weightwatchers a few weeks ago and the weight is shifting. Although I now fit into some of my pre-pg wardrobe, I still want new clothes (and these jeans aren't as comfy as they used to be - maybe I need to lose a few more lbs.

Right - off to put nappies on to wash and have a quick tidy up before visitors arrive. Wonder if I will have time to make some muffins? I ate all the cakes yesterday that I bought on Tuesday . Guess I will put weight on this week . Might explain the shrinking jeans too

jennster · 06/03/2008 17:31

I am now less than 12 stones which is brilliant, but not made any move for 2 weeks. At least there are 3 weeks of lent left. I can now also fit in TopShop size 14 jeans!!!! Amazing. My Dorothy Perkins jeans are too baggy and saggy now, so I reckon I'm a 12 there now.

As for DS's weight no idea. Not had him weighed since before Christmas. Suspect he's lost a bit as his thighs are no where near as chunky as they were but he is scooting about the floor doing the commando crawl so I'm not surprised. I've just bought him 12-18 month sleep suits though as he is getting very long in the body and cloth nappies make 9-12 month difficult to close.

Hi Liesel, DS only has 2 teeth,, but has consistently slept from feeding at 10-11 to 8 for a week! I am very happy.

MelissaM · 06/03/2008 18:13

Tooth update - first one has appeared this afternoon - just poking through a bit on the bottom right. Would explain dd crying in her sleep earlier.

catstar · 06/03/2008 21:02

Left Little O at nursery for 4 hours today. Lots of tears last week from me at the thought, but dare i say - it wasn't too bad! I went off for a coffee and some lunch, then came home and vacuumed, cleaned the bathroom etc. then it was time to pick her up. She hadn't cried at all, drank her milk, ate all the food they offered, babbled away, playing happily - I'm sooooooo relieved !

We've had no more teeth simce the bottom two at 5 months, but plenty of drooling and chomping.

I've just ironed all my old work shirts and picked up suits from the dry cleaners ready for next Tuesday. Bought myself a new handbag - 6 quid from Primark!!!! Strangely I am actually less than my pre pregnancy weight, so clothes a little big . Ithink it's because I exercise less now. I was probably eating too little and exercising too much before, so my body stored everything as fat. Well, that's what I've read anyway.... Well, whatever, I think it will all change when I get back to work. a week after I return we are moving into a brand new buliding opposite Lloyd's of London where there will be a starbuck's and costa coffee in the foyer and countless other temptations....

Hope all well - MelissaM hope your LO on way to recovery.

Myfairone · 07/03/2008 08:47

Catstar - I hate you! hahaha, only joking. Its nice to hear that all your clothes fit and that you coped okay leaving Little O. From what I hear, the thought of leaving them is worse than doing it!

If you are opposite the LLoyds building you are right on top of Leadenhall too!! Lots of yummy shops and restaurants....I work just behind Liverpool St so only up the road from there.

Melissa - Excellent news on the tooth. It does explain the sleepless nights! We have had the same here.
How do you get time to make muffins?

Jennster - Well done on the weight loss..great news.

Okay, I am having a dreadful morning...LO was awake from 3am (Im blaming the two teeth that are poking through!)....When I got up I was so tired and cranky I had a huge argument with DH. He stormed out the house early saying he was going to the station to read his newspaper (is it wrong of me to laugh because its raining and I have visions of him sitting there getting wet?)

I feel like he is the only one that can complain about anything. As soon as I have an off day (doesnt happen often but the lack of sleep is really killing me!) I'm not allowed to mention it!

Rant over....I am sure the huge coffee I just drank will wake me up, at least for a time.

MelissaM · 07/03/2008 15:23

MFO - I didn't get time to make the muffins - stupidly thought I might get all my jobs done and bake while dd asleep - fat chance! She woke not long after I had posted. Poor thing is asleep now but still keeps coughing. Didn't have visitors in the end so didn't have to feel bad about not having anything to offer.

Ikwym about not being able to complain about anything - and lack of sleep is a killer - but dp's always think its worse for them! It's not like they are the ones getting up and trying to settle lo's in the night. (at least not here anyway but I still get told how tired he is and that he has to do a full days work - what does he think I do all day - drink coffee and sit around? at thought of dh sat in rain

Catstar well done on leaving lo at nursery and for fitting in all your pre pg clothes at them being too big

Myfairone · 07/03/2008 21:40

Pula, well done on completing week one of work! Lovely to hear you only have to do 3 days. that must make a lot of difference?

melissa, probably best that your visitors didn't come if you didn't have muffins to offer!
Oh Im so pleased to hear that my dh isnt the only one that thinks he's a martyr for going to work. I am the one that gets up to ds (which is fine because i see it as my job while im not 'at work'), but i do hate that he doesnt appreciate the hard work that goes into looking after a baby for a day.

i went out today to try and buy something to wear and found nothing!!!!! also received an invite to a wedding and once again my first thought was 'what shall i wear'! im starting to bore myself!

bilblio · 07/03/2008 22:30

Pula - Glad to hear work went well, and congrats to DS for learning to clap, we're trying to teach B but watching us clap is far more interesting than doing it herself.

As I'll be the one going out to work and DP gets to stay home and look after B does it mean I'll get to be the martyr sleeping all the time but complaining about being tired?
Ooh I really hope so but I doubt it somehow...

Myfairone & Meep - B is a little shrimp too. 6-9 month clothes swamp her, she still has plenty of room in most of her 3-6 month stuff, and she's still wearing a few 0-3 month outfits, but I think that says more about the clothes than her. She was never going to be big though, DP and I are both 5'4".
She's on the 50% line for weight, but I think it must be all the muscles she's built up from her constant fidgetting. On the odd occasion she goes still you can be pretty certain she'll be asleep in minutes.

We're frantically trying to childproof downstairs, I suspect B will be crawling in a matter of days, she spend most of her time on her knees rocking as if she's on the starting blocks. She goes backwards and round in circles, but hasn't quite sussed forwards yet. I'm not encouraging her.
We have no doors downstairs and the stairgates we've got are too wide so it could be carnage.

catstar · 08/03/2008 09:50

Bilblio - B sounds as though she's under starter's orders!!! I have baby who has absolutely no intention of moving! I suspect though that I may be guilty of holding her back ! I have never seen her roll over, yet when I collected her from nursery yesterday they said she had been rolling over cushions! I think I see her straining to reach a toy and pass it to her without thinking, or pick her up everytime she topples from sitting. I've bought a starter kit for home safety - plug socket things, drawer catches etc so will try to get organised for when O takes us by surprise one day!!!

My DH is acting the hero this morning. Little O was really crying in the night and I just couldn't get myself out of bed - I felt paralysed by tiredness, so I woke DH (who NEVER wakes up when O cries!) and asked him to go to her. I'm sure he wants a medal this morning!!! He's already used it as justification for going on a mountain bike ride this morning when he promised we'd have a "family" weekend for my last weekend before work.

MFO - I did chuckle at the thought of your DH reading his paper at the station in the rain! Just as I'm laughing to myself that my DH will now be getting soaked on his bike ride....

There is a big down side to weight loss - I am now so flat-chested . I never had much beforehand, but now it's a joke. Have had to employ all sorts of "boosting" techniques!!

At one of the baby groups I go to there is a gorgeous little 4 month old girl with a mop of black hair - her mum announced yesterday that she is 3 months pg . She had a scan last week - and there it is, little heart beating away! Her duaghter will be 13 months when the new one arrives!

Have a good weekend everyone!

meep · 08/03/2008 10:16

Morning all!
Jennster - what is your weight loss trick - I have at least 2 stone to shift and need a good kick up teh *rse to do it !
catstar - dd also goes nowhere - she will sit quite happily and play but will still get upset if she lands on her front. I'm trying not to pass her toys - I think I have been like you- but she just wails until she get s what she wants - typical woman - ha ha!!!
PS - you can have some of my chest - I have the opposite problem
PPS good luck for going back to work next week - just remember to sit and relax when you stop for your first coffee and savour the moment
I have to say that my dh has been fab (most of the time!). Even when I was on maternity leave we would take it in turns to have a long lie at the weekend - it was bliss and saved me from going nuts! We did have a few of those "but I have to go to work" arguments in the early days - but now it all seems to have settled into a nice routine. I worked out that he needs to have a wee bit of time for him each weekend - so I quite happily take dd shopping with me and he gets a couple of hours to himself. Works a treat!
MFO - I have a wedding in September and I am already stressing about what to wear!
A colleague of mine had a baby just before me - and by the time I got back from maternity leave she was prgnant again - brave lady!!!
Well - tonight is the big night - minimeep is going to her own room - I feel like it is the end of a wee stage in her life and I feel quite sad. Am going to spend the day making her room nice ie/ finally hanging up her pictures and giving it a good clean!

catstar · 08/03/2008 12:58

Thanks Meep - I'm feeling much more positive about going back after seeing O so happy at nursery. I will savour every cup of tea, and every uninterrupted phone call etc!

A big day for you today - go for it! It will be lovely to open Minimeep's bedroom door every morning and see her smiling at you through the bars of the cot .

My DH was a nightmare to live with for the first three months after O was born, but really seems into it now. Like your DH Meep, he needs some "me" time at the weekends - he gets cabin fever if he doesn't get out on his bike (mountain or motor!).

Better get on with the day - got loads more name tags to iron into Little O's clothes!

bilblio · 08/03/2008 21:57

Meep hope Minimeep has a good night. I forgot to say, B is still in with us... well me actually, DP decamped to her room in the early days and hasn't been back yet. I kept her in with me because I like the double bed to myself she likes to sleep on her front, but still hasn't learnt to roll onto her back. (I half think she'll be walking before she learns that trick. ) But she seems quite happy sleeping on her front now, she used to wake crying but that's stopped so the time has come to move her. I was planning on doing it today, but got carried away baking. We're away tomorrow night but I will do it on Monday.

I thought my brother and SIL were crazy, their 2nd LO is due in 3 weeks, my niece will be 20 months. It was planned. But 13 months! that's beyond brave.

pulapula · 09/03/2008 21:01

Well my first week at work ended up being a bit longer than planned as i ended up working on fri afternoon and evening and saturday too. At least it was paid overtime and it was nice to feel needed, and DH enjoyed spending time with the DCs on his own. I do feel tired though as B has been waking a lot in the night, for 3 hours solid one night! It's like having a newborn again. Hope it's his teeth, although not sure it is as he seems fine in the day. We think it might be the start of separation anxiety.

madmumNika · 09/03/2008 23:08

Good evening all, been a while and you've all been busy- LOs too!
Glad those who've returned to work are finding it ok and their LOs have settled well.
We've been a bit busy and I'm supposed to have banned myself from using mumsnet but having zero willpower here I am- I'm meant to now be focusing all my spare time on my thesis as only have a few short months left but it's sooooo hard to concentrate. DCs still go to my friend who does childminding- now for 1 full day and two mornings- thankfully DD now adores my friend and has come through the separation anxiety phase...

DD is teething too, at least she chews anything and everything within reach and has gone off solids so I'm hoping a teeth will appear soon although I can't see any white yet! We had yet another tummy bug on Thurs but it was a quickie thankfully! So aware that DD needs to put fat on I fret whenever she's sick or off her food....I should know better with her being my second but still!
DD is beginning to roll over, finally- motivated by trying to get her brother's toys! She is good at sitting but still hates 'tummy time' so not sure if she'll be a crawler. DS only crawled for 2 weeks before deciding cruising was more fun (with a better vantage point)!

Still trying to lose weight here too. Have resorted to exercise DVDs . Getting married in June certainly puts some pressure on looking trimmer again, but I still crave (& eat ) carbs & cheese all the time- blaming it on tiredness and BFing!!! Have dropped 1 BF now so going to ease down to 1-2 per day as need the flexibility...

Right, some data to sort out then bedtime calls. Like many of yours my DD has started to wake too in the night- and boy does it feel awful after getting used to better nights!! 4am is her fave time...

Hugs to you all xxx
