Hello July ladies, we are here now!!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MelissaM · 10/03/2008 19:48

Meep - how did dd's first couple of nights in her own room go?

mmn - I would find it v difficult to be focused to study too. Had originally planned on doing another professional qualification whilst on mat leave, but manager rightfully told me that I wouldn't want to do it once lo arrived. Good luck with the weight loss and congrats on the forthcoming wedding.

Think DD's second tooth is well on way - can feel the little blighter just under the surface. Hopefully won't take as long as the last one.

Catstar - you can have some of mine too. Just had to order more nursing bras - thought would have started to shrink by now, but need a bigger cup (have lost weight and down to 3-4 feeds a day so not sure what's going on).

bilblio good luck with moving dd into her own room.

at tales of people pg again so soon. Original plans of trying to be 6mth pg when due back to work went out the window v shortly after dd born.

pulapula you have my sympathies with ds waking again in the night. DD was doing this but last night slept til 5.50! which is the best we've had in ages. Could well be ds's teeth. Hang in there - it will get better again.

Right got to tidy the house before dh comes home or he will be asking what I have done all day (again!)

madmumNika · 11/03/2008 14:29

Meep & Bilblio - hope your DDs has settled into sleeping on her own ok. It's very hard as in my mind it makes the end of the 'young baby' era, but I hope you find like I have that you all get better sleep (at least once you get through the paranoia stage of checking on them every hlf hr through the night, baby monitor on or not!).

MelissaM- glad your DD is beginning to sleep better again. My DD also slept through for the first time in a while last night, although I did hear her a few times... But we still don't have any teeth (just very red cheeks, lots of chewing and general grumpiness!)!

Quite a few of my friends have fallen pregnant when their DCs were between 8 and 13 months, it's quite a common age gap which seems to work well (at least once they get older they have similar interests, play well together etc.), although it is hard work juggling 2 DCs who are still so young at first. Personally I didn't feel ready until DS was 1.5yrs old to contemplate no.2 !! I have one friend who accidentally fell pregnant 6 weeks after her dd2 was born (& she was exclusively breastfeeding!)- and it was very hard on her. But now having a 13-month gap between the 2 actually seems to work well (they are 2 & 3 yrs old now). One friend decided to get her child-bearing done within 3 years and had 3 DCs in that time, they are all very well behaved and very happy and now the youngest is nearly 3 it works very well... Don't think I could have coped when they were all tiny though!! Honestly take my hat off to parents of twins or more!!!

Just a little aside.... A group of friends are helping my DP & me raise some money for the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Trust... We have 2 relay teams to run in the Belfast marathon in May and a team of walkers too (I'm in the latter!!)- if anyone feels like sponsoring us please take a look at: www.justgiving.com/teammairi
This is a cause very close to my heart with DD having CF- and I'm sure close to the heart of DorisofDevon too.

Thanks xxx

madmumNika · 11/03/2008 14:32

PS. sorry for all my typos . Should not try typing fast and not previewing, it never works well!! xx

meep · 12/03/2008 09:47

well...................minimeep is still in our room!!! I spent all day Saturday getting her room sorted - it looked so nice and we spent lots of time in there playing and she got very excited every time we went in. All good! Until.......
Gave her her bedtime milk - she did a big cough and a posset. Then she did a wee sick, then a big sick then a massive sick ending with projectile all over her, me, the floor, the new cushions, the wall - !!!! I had to have a shower because she'd soaked through my pj's AND my pants!!! So after that there was no way she was sleeping in her own room and I had to drag the cot back through!
I thought - give it a couple of days to settle - but she's still not wanting any solids and we had the smelliest runny nappy I have ever experienced at 1am a couple of night ago - she even had to have a bath.
So I think minimeep has a wee tummy bug There is a lot of it going around all the nurseries here at the moment.
But I promise she will be going to her own room when she is well again!
I'm beginning to sound like a total moaning mummy with an ill baby - but she is actually pretty chirpy and happy when she is not exploding with vomit/poo/snot/goo
Hope you're all well - and those of you at work are enjoying your cups of tea/coffee!
MMN - hats off to you doing the marathon even walking!
and at your friend getting pregnant 6 weeks post birth (more so cos she was actually having sex 6 weeks post birth - brave lady )

catstar · 12/03/2008 10:09

Oh Meep - poor Minimeep, and poor you! Hope she is doing a bit better? They can be messy things these babies. I picked Little O up from the nursery after our first day apart yesterday and she was so excited to see me she threw up all over me . So I had to walk home looking like I'd been attacked by a flock of seagulls! My coat was fresh from the dry cleaners too!

I think she got on ok at nursery yesteday - she didn;t eat a huge amount, but tucked into the "afters" and drank her milk. A couple of tears, but nothing too bad. I, on the other hand, was in a right old state last night. I missed her soooo much and she was so lovely while I was getting her ready for bed .... Oh well, keep buying the lottery tickets.

MMN - will have a look at your link later - but good for you, and what a good cause.

Better go as am pretending to be catching up with emails etc.....

meep · 12/03/2008 10:13

Catstar you just made me laugh out loud at the "flock of seagulls"!!!

Can I just ask you all what you think - Minimeep has been having the nursery food for lunch (pureed). I spoke to the manager and she said it was salt free so fine for wee ones.

The menu consists of things like baked beans and sausages - surely these have salt in them? Are these okay for babies? Help?

catstar · 12/03/2008 11:24

Hi Meep - I have been giving Little O baked beans (the low sugar and salt version) but I thought that sausages (if they are pork), bacon, ham, etc are a no-no because they are all high in salt. Maybe the nursery has a secret recipe

Hope she gets scoffing solids again soon.

Hi all,

Haven't been on much recently as have also been on poo and spew duty in devon. DD1 started vomiting a week last saturday and took 6 days to clear, just as I thought we were out of the wood LO started being sick and the rest, she's getting better but she's not completely clear yet.....

So i've been in social isolation for far too long, but no time for mn far to much washing!!!!!and it's such a nasty one wouldn't want to chance anyone else's LO getting it.

On the down side Lydie loulabelle (no not her real name!) has lost weight all that effort trying to get off the bottom centile still we can but try again.

To top it all my dad has chest pains last week and is now an inpatient at the local hospital waiting for a triple bypass ( they're not happy to let him home as he is still having pain at rest). I've only been to visit him once before the vomitgates opened.

Just realised this sounds like a bit of a whinge but I'm ok just had the HV round for the 6-9 month check and she asked how I was coping said honestly don't know how would manage without dh but as a team we get through, just look at it as rebalance had loads of good years now the crap is just catching up then we can good back to the good times again ( don't know if that makes sense but it works for me!

MMN really pleased you're doing the fund raising great minds must think alike ( although I'm not quite up to a phd level yet!) Dh was gently encouraged to enter the Plymouth half marathon for the CFtrust ( bearing in mind in Sept all he could manage at the start of the program was run one minute walk one minute for 5 minutes) will check out your link now I need to start the same program as the baby weight is not going anywhere fast.

Meep moved LO last week and a;though it's hard has been benifical for both of us good luck and hope all those up to the eyes in snot/ poo/ vomit are back to normal soon x Doris

Sorry it's a bit of an epic again.

dorisofdevon · 12/03/2008 16:09

sorry trigger finger happy I guess

bilblio · 12/03/2008 21:13

Hope mini meep gets better soon.

Hope things pick up at yours too Doris, and your Dad gets his op soon.

All this talk of sick is making me very pleased that B won't be going to nursery for a while. I don't do sick, even at work I run a mile, the thought of all these tummy bugs is making me nervous.

Meep you aren't alone either. We didn't get B in her own room either. We didn't even get as far as sorting it out. DP invited his brother and SIL up to stay next weekend, they'll be in B's room where we have a single and a pull out bed for guests. It seemed a bit silly to try to get B settled in her room, then 4 days later move her out again... so it's postponed till Saturday... maybe Sunday... or when she's 4

meep · 12/03/2008 21:43

..........or 5.........

Myfairone · 13/03/2008 21:18

Doris, i hope your dad is okay and that all goes well when he gets his date for the op.

meep - poor little minimeep! she goes through it doesnt she! don't stress yourself out about having her in her own room. im sure you're happy having her in with you, especially if shes poorly.

well what a day we've had! ds had his appointment at st thomas's hospital today. i got myself soo worked up about it but turns out we were so well looked after. i cannot fault the way we were treated and im so impressed with everyone we met. ds had some skin prick tests and we met 2 allergy specialists and a dietician. they were with us for 2 hours in all.

they suspect he has an allergy to cows milk protein. we have come away with a creams to treat the rash (was told we have been grossly undertreated by our gp!), a bath oil and a new formula to try (Which they tell me is hugely expensive - but he's worth it!).

so i am continuing to bf for now and we shall see how it goes.

im sooooooooo exhausted tonight. can hardly keep my eyes open.

big hugs to all

twoplusone · 14/03/2008 12:55

Hello all sorry notbeen on for a hile hope everyone is ok..

Lee cut a tooth last week bu the poor little man has been reallly poorly, diorreah for 2weeks, and he now has tonsilitis.. I am knackered the ither night he didnt go to sleeptill 3amish. I sat on his bedroom floor in tears!!!! Just so tired..

My ear still had the fluid so I have anther 12 days on sudafed as it has foine down a bit.. to see if unblocks the tube.. if not then i dont know I will be backto the docs to discuss.

DS1 has been assessed by speech therapist again and he has delayed speech and kanguage, and processing skills hence why he doesnt take any notice of me, and repeatedly does the same wrong things over and over again.. This is alos driving me mad but what can I do but be patient with him and continously expalin things slowly and in short sentences. I will hve a meeting soon to discuss the olan if action..

Sorry about typos but typing quicklywhilst I have tim enadLee is sleeping.

Take care all'
x

twoplusone · 14/03/2008 12:58

my computer is showing this thread funny!!!! I thought the ast message should be at the top of the age..or have I pressed flip by mistake

twoplusone · 14/03/2008 13:00

Thin I pressed flip I am loosing the plot

catstar · 16/03/2008 20:12

Twoplusone - you poor thing. How is Lee's tonsillitis? And DS1 - hope the meeting goes well.

Myfairone - sounds like you got a good result from your trip to St Thomas's. Hopefully now you will start getting some results.

I'm a mountain bike widow this weekend . Three nights on my own with O - this is when I wish I lived closer to my family and old friends. I could have stayed the weekend away, but because Little O had just finished her first week of nursery and I my first week at work, I decided it would not be a good idea. Still, feeling a little lonely tonight. DH should be back around midnight, but I hope to be soundo by then!

Think we might have a trip to the doctors tomorrow - O has bright green gunk coming out of her eyes. No surprise after starting nursery I suppose .... I thought she was quiet this morning - turns out her eyes were stuck together so she must have thought sleep the best thing!!! Maybe we'll wait a few days before seeing the doctor ..... .

Hope all well - DOD hope your Dad doing ok?

twoplusone · 17/03/2008 10:03

catstar- sounds like conjunctavitis..(sp) they may not let o into nursery..; someplaces are funny..
Hope your dh ot back safe and sound.xx

Lee is doing alot better.. he has started to eat now, hoping he will put onthe weight that he has lost over the past few weeks.. his little belly has gone..

Spoke to dh last night which was great, I am really starting to miss him more and more each day, only 4.5months to go.. atleast he will be home for about 0days mid may..that will be so nice.. I cant wait.

Hope everyone is ok. What haveyou all got planned for easter.. it is me and the children i was hoping someone was going to come and visit us.. but to no avail.
DD father is on about coming to see her so he will be stying with us.. I really am going to have to keep my mouth shut.. he hasnt paid maintanance since I had Lee as he isnt working at the mo so cant afford too!"!!.. But then the other night in informed me that his girlfriend and him are starting IVF..this month, they get 3 free attempts... WTF.. I am really angry, I am sounding selfish and i dont mean to obviously I want him and his gf to have a LO But I know my DD is going to suffer as if they cant afford maintanance now what hope have i got when they have a LO..
DD said to me why does my daddy have to give you money to look after me anyway.. i told her that he has a responsibility to support you as well as I.. She said idont see why. So I told her herr school trip which is 210euros, she cant go , her flute lessons, youth club money, guides money, cheerleading, savings money, pocket money.. etc will have to stop!! Obviously none of them would but i was just trying to get her to realise.. she soon did.. Sorry I am going off on one..
SO I am waiting to hear when he is coming to see her anyway..

Take care all sorry for ranting about that!!!

madmumNika · 18/03/2008 11:15

DOD- really hope Lydia is well over the sickness bugs and gaining weight again. It's such a worry espcially when they're already underweight and you know how much they need the weight. How is your Dad? Have everything crossed the operation is a success, it must be so scary for you all. Huge hugs.

2+1- at your ex! I think you are justified in bering angry with him, like you said although you wouldn't not want them to have LOs of their own it definitely should not affect his existing commitments to his daughter- which he already isn't meeting. My Mum had huge issues with getting enough maintenance from my Dad and I remember (possibly too well) how hard it was on us all. Really hope Lee keeps putting on the weight now he's better! And it's not long until May, really.... Though don't know how I'd cope in your shoes- you do so well. Hope your DH stays safe & well.

Catstar- hope O gets better soon- it does sound like a classic eye infection and 2+1 is right, alot of nurseries won't let kids in with them or not until they've started treatment. I was told by my GP though that the majority of eye infections are viral (usually related to cold viruses so often a cold & eye infection co-occur) and so there's not much to be done other than regular cleaning with saline water (cool boiled water with salt added)- she said as sign that an eye infection has become bacterial is if the eye is blood-shot- then you'll need antibiotic drops/ointment. An old wives tale is to use cool black tea to clean the eye, and I actually find this is often really effective...! Unfortunately they are very contagious so be careful with your eyes too!

Just wondering how much milk are your LOs taking? Mairi has been off-colour for a while, bad cold combined with teething, and finding breastfeeding hard. She wants to bite all the time (ouch!!) and can't stick at it for long...So I've started offering bottles too but some days she hardly takes more than 3oz in a go. At most she now has 4 milk feeds per 24hrs, and not long/large ones. She's waking quite a bit in the night which I hope is only down to teething/cold but worried she's hungry and sometimes she does want to feed. Really not sure though how I can persaude her to take more milk in the daytime (I offer it lots but she's just not keen). Feeling wrecked as DD was up at midnight (I'd just gone to bed), then DS up at 1.30am, then DD up at 2.30am and DD up again at 06.15am. Had too many nights like this recently and really feeling it! I feel like I should know how to get Mairi settled again but just can't seem to!

Hugs to you all.

madmumNika · 18/03/2008 11:24

PS. Meant to say- Myfairone- that's so great the allergy clinic are being so pro-active. Really hope they get to the bottom of DS' allergy and in a way hope it is cows milk protein because at least then you'll know and it's fairly easy to avoid (compared to say gluten in later life). DS also went to an allergy clinic earlier this month due to his eczema but the only thing he's mildy allergic to is pet hair.... His eczema is still awful, wakes him at night, so waiting to be referred back to dermatology and in the meantime are trying yet more creams... As he developed eczema after he turned 1 they say it's harder to treat than earlier-onset eczema

Meep- how is minimeep? Has she made it into her own room yet? Just do it when you feel ready...although it is always hard you'll find you'll adjust quickly and enjoy being able to read etc. in bed again without worrying about disturbing her! Just think all the bugs she's getting now from nursery will mean than she'll have fewer when she starts school and therefore miss fewer days of school... It's just really tough now for your work- but spring is nearly hear then many of the bugs disappear!

dorisofdevon · 18/03/2008 15:04

Hi just popped on to say hi to you all and Happy Easter as were away for a few days

Thanks for all your best wishes for my dad, he had the triple bypass yestereday and although he came through that ok about 7pm he started bleeding and had to go back to theatre and be reopened for some "extra stitching" he' sbeen stable over night and should be out of intensive care today into high dependency fingers crossed.

Both DD's are now clear of the lurgy and things are looking up but beginning to get stressed about going away with dd2 for the first time got make sure we've got all her meds and nebuliser etc. still I'm sure it will be ok once we're on our way.

MMN Lydie is only having breastmilk 4 times a day now with meals and after 10pm neb, sometimes it feels like she's only on for a few seconds before she wants to pulls away once my milk starts to flow she seems to stay for longer had a bad week a couple of weeks ago and thought I was going to have to give up ( i supplemented with water from a cup ( I know no fat but just wanted to make sure she had enough fluid). But she seems to have settled now but at the teeth we've still none yet !!!!

good luck and Happy easter
DorisX

bilblio · 18/03/2008 15:12

Warning - Proud Mum Alert - in the past hour B has learnt to crawl and sit herself up from being laid down.
I'm not sure if I'm happy, or scared, we really can't take our eyes off her now. Time to get the travel cot out so we can use it as a playpen.
She's still not worked out how to roll from front to back but I guess that's almost irrelevant now

MMN - B seems less interested in milk now too. I BF her at about 6am and again at 9am, but she often just plays with both of them. I give her a bottle at 3pm sometimes she takes 7ozs, but it's usually just 5oz then she falls asleep. The only really good feed she has is bedtime when I BF and she has both sides. LAst night she only fed from one side before falling asleep and she woke again at 10:30, then was awake for 3 hours! Thankfully DP took over so I could sleep.

Twoplusone - hope you and Lee are feeling better, and good luck for the meeting about DS1, hopefully you'll get some good advice for how to help him.

Myfairone - good to hear you got some results from St Thomas's, fingers crossed the advise starts to work. I've had excema since I was a kid and it's only in the past couple of years that I've had a doctor who really gave me any decent advise rather than giving me yet another steroid cream. B had a few patches on her legs which we managed to clear up, but she's getting got more now on her back, legs, chest & arms so we'll be off to the doctors soon too.

catstar · 19/03/2008 16:20

Wow Bilblio - you must be very proud!!! But as you say, this opens up a whole new lot of worries and baby proofing issues! We still have a baby who's happy just to sit there and wait until someone feels sorry for her and passes her a toy!

DOD - hope to have a well-deserved Easter break and get good news about your Dad.

MMN - thanks for advise re eyes. I kept bathing them in salt water (not very popular with Little O) but it seems to have done the job and we didn't have to miss any nursery .

Little O is on 3 bottles a day now: 7am, 3pm and 7pm. I make up 7oz each bottle - sometimes she takes the lot, sometimes only a couple of ozs, but usually about 5oz. She's generally sleeping well and loves her food, so I try not to worry too much about how much she's taking.

I'm now into my second week at work - I still miss O lots and spend a lot of time day dreaming about her, but it is getting a bit easier. I have a big smile on my face when I get off the train knowing she's going to be excited to see me . She's doing really well at nursey and even ate a ham sandwich yesterday - mostly by herself, with just a little bit of guidance!

Better dash as I've been pretending to work for too long now ......

meep · 20/03/2008 10:23

I lost our thread!
Just quickly posting (can her a wee meeping girl upstairs) so that I can get it back on my "threads I'm on"!
