Hello July ladies, we are here now!!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
meep · 21/02/2008 20:09

Pula, work are fine - my manager has a 4yo ds so he knows what it is like. I've also got access to my work computer from home so haven't had to take any time off as I have been working from home! When minimeep woke up from her nap I sat and read her some reports and she seemed to find it hilarious . However I know there are some at work who will have me "marked" for always having to rush off - but do you know what - minmeep's health is the most important thing! It's amazing how your priorities change!

MFO that's great news that you've got an appointment in 3 weeks time - well done you!

theprecious · 22/02/2008 19:59

just a quick EC update, I caught three out of four poos today, just by sitting him on the potty after feeding and after naps ( we didn't go out as much today as usual). I guess I sat him on there twice as much as he used it.

It will take a bit of getting used to but I much prefer it to changing pooy nappies. And I wouldn't say it takes longer. Hopefully by the time I go back to work we'll have it sussed.

I meet with our childminder today (our childminder! Rah!). Ds is going to go to her one day a week in April and May, then three days when I go back to work, then four days in July. She is happy to carry on the ECing too so that's great. She's a grandma but dsoesn't look her age at all, and can't believe the price of pampers.

If anyone's LO has nappy rash / sore bottoms then it would be worth a try as ds had slightly pink bum but it's now lovely and clear again.

Meep - according to the stuff I have read you can EC part-time. Also if you asked I am sure the nursery would put minimeep on the potty at nappy changes.

Ds moved out of room about three months ago.

Is anyone else's LO deciding that 5.30am is a good time to start the day?

Right enough banging on from me! Have a good weekend all.

Myfairone · 22/02/2008 21:18

The precious, yes my little one thinks that 5am is a great time to start the day....and as much as I have tried to talk him out of it he always makes sure that he is heard and fed!!!!!
Excellent news on your poo catching! well done.

Meep - LO comes first, and yes priorities do change. If anyone at work has a problem you will probably find they don't have kids!

My DS has had a bad afternoon today. NO idea what his problem was but he has cried a lot and been very clingy. I hope he isn't getting sick...poor little man was so exhausted by bed time but still had his 2 naps today.

Night all.

twoplusone · 23/02/2008 08:50

MFO hope lo is ok.

The precious, well done on the pooh catching.

welll my friend had a baby on monday so went riound to see him yesterday. they are all well and ababy is gorgeous, but he was 9lb 11oz and they wouldnt giver her any painrelief.. her mw sounded horrible I think I was lucky when I had lee as mine was lovely, and let me dictate what haooened.. many of the stories i am hearing are quite the opposite.. bless then .

well I have found out why i was getting(should I say am getting) the nausia, and dizzyness.. I have alot of fluid trapped behind my ear drum, they think it has been building up from the bad ear infectiuon i had when pg!!!!! I am on sudafed for 10days to see if that will clear it, if not I have to go back and think they are referring me to the ENT clinic.. he mentioned gromits.. My first thought was well you will have to wait till sept!!! but tbhdont think i can carry on feeling like this till then.. Hopefully the saudafed will work if not I will have to see if one of the family want to visit and have the ids whilst i get it sorted.. SOmethingelse i could really do without.

I have decided to go him in July for 10days to bereak the hols up, I am going to go and look at the kennels on one of the other camps and see if i like it for Storm, and also make sure they will be ok with her breed. oNCE i AM SATISFIED I WILL BOOK THE FERRY, MY DAD HAS SAID HE WILL FLY ACROSS, (FLIGHTS FROM STANSTEAD ARE ABOUT 20QUID.) oops sorry about the caps..and he will helpme with the children in the ferry.

Anyway must go DS1 has dissapeared front he front room and is very quiet.. so he is eiter up to mischief or decided to wake his big sis and her friend... bye for now.xx

MelissaM · 25/02/2008 22:32

Hi All

Sorry haven;t been on for ages and that i haven't caught up with what everyone has been up to.

MillserL - welcome. Lovely name for your dd.

Catstar hope your feeling a bit better.

MFO - hope you and lo are feeling better.

typhoonsmum sorry to hear about James' talipes. (& jennster)

2+1 sorry to hear about the ear infection but hopefully it will get sorted properly this time. The trip home will be nice and it's nice of your dad to come over and help on the ferry. I can't imagine trying to travel with 3 kids!

MFO hope ds is ok.

DD isn't well at the moment and it's really stressing me out. She has a really bad cold (doc said it's a kind of viral bronchitis). She's been very whiney and clingy, which is so unlike her. Just keep dosing her up with calpol. Her temperature seemed to be getting higher and higher at bedtime, and she really hasn't had much milk today, so I keep worrying about her dehydrating. Thankfully I've just checked and her temperature is down to 37 (was 38.8) so am stressing a little less now. I guess keep thinking that she might get as ill as she was after she was born. DH keeps reminding me that its just a cold and that she will be fine.
Right my moan over. I know DD isn't that ill really and that others on here have longer lasting problems with their babies.

Right off to bed now although expecting dd to wake any time soon for nappy change and more milk. Hope you all have a good day tomorrow

catstar · 26/02/2008 12:55

MelissaM - hope your LO is continuing to improve. It's awful not being able to help them, especially when they get clingy. Is she still getting plenty of wet nappies? I think this is a good way to check for dehydration. Little O has had a cold now for a month, so think it must be related to teething, but her cough is getting worse at night so might need to do something about this.

Thanks for all the messages about teeth - the past week has been really hard and I will never again think that anyone is exaggerating about toothache. After treating my abscess with abs, I had the tooth taken out on Friday. I can honestly say I would rather give birth than have another tooth out ! It took 45 mins to get the bugger out, then I was in terrible pain all weekend. Went back to the dentist yesterday and have a "dry socket" and an infection in the jaw where the tooth was. More abs this week and a strange iodine packing in the socket. Most unpleasant.

We have just done our first settling in session in nursery which went ok - I stayed in the room the whole time. On Friday I'll leave O and sit in the staff room. They all seem very nice etc, but I just think the ratio is really high - 3 babies to 1 carer. I know this is the legal requirement, but I just can't see how one person can do all the nappy changes, bottle feeding, cuddles etc for three babies. I've shed a few tears now I'm at home - I thought I'd got my head around the fact I have to do this, but maybe I haven't yet . It's going to be such a long day for O - 8am to 6pm. I'll only see her for about an hour a day. Time to start thinking about a new job .

Sorry to go on - I know I'm very lucky in lots of other ways.

Twoplusone - hope the ear infection clearing up?

Typhoonsmum - good to hear from you again and hope DS is not in too much discomfort.

MFO - well done for getting a quicker appointment at the clinic - hope you get something sorted out soon.

Hope everyone and their LO's doing well.

MelissaM · 26/02/2008 13:05

Thanks Catstar, DD is still quite poorly, but thankfully a little more cheerful today. Been to Britax for a car seat re-harnessing and she was all smiles for the receptionist . She hasn't eaten much lunch but did have some milk before her nap. Will try her with some fruit I think when she wakes up. She has had wet nappies today, but went from 7am to 11/11.30 without a wet nappy yesterday. Even then it was only damp when I changed it, and the next was only slightly damp too. She did make up for it in the afternoon though I think as she was very snacky iykwim. Temp is definitely down.
You are very organised with nursery - I havent even contacted any yet . I am sure O will be fine. Babies love being around other babies and it is great for their social skills. You are probably starting at the best time, before separation anxiety kicks in. Sending you big {{hugs}} Thinking of you too with the tooth. I remember how painful it is having them out and mine was without the added complication of infection. Hope it clears up soon and you feel better.

Right off to have some lunch, fold nappies and clean the house while dd sleeping. Hmmm - got about an hour - it isn;t all going to happen! Right lunch and nappies it is then!

meep · 26/02/2008 13:50

Glad your dd is a bit more cheery today MelissaM - high temps are so scary - you have my sympathy - my dd has had some sort of cold/snot/cough/lost voice/vomit/runny poo/gunky eye whingy clingy symptom since around Christmas time! Going to nursery has just set off a cascade of new symptoms and I cherish the few days when she is happy and giggly!

catstar, our nursery has a ration of 3 to one. I think they share out the very little babies and I reckon that they get most of the attention as they are not so easy to leave on their own! I got very stressed about leaving minimeep from 8-6 - but some other kind mumsnetter todl me that if she was first in and last out she woudl get more one to one attention and loads more cuddles!!!

minimeep is well settled now - she has a wee chum the same age as her who is also in from 8-6! The great thing is that she has made pictures and painted - they have a photo of her on the wall next to her work of art and she looks so excited and happy! She even played with sand yesterday

Be ready for being a bit when you realise how little sleep they get at nursery though!

Must get back to work...........!

MelissaM · 26/02/2008 14:00

Thanks Meep. Hope minimeep is better soon too. Just thought - perhaps dd slept through (or I thought she did) because I couldn't hear her last night as she has lost her voice too! oops!
That;s nice that minimeep has a friend now. How cool getting to do art work already. We tried painting for dh's b'day a couple of weeks ago, but it wasn't that successful - more paint on dd than the paper.

MelissaM · 26/02/2008 14:08

Forgot to ask - has anyone else's lo's stood up yet? DD stood up using the sofa for support on Friday afternoon. She is desperately trying to stand on her own (keeps landing on her face) and trying to crawl.

meep · 27/02/2008 09:20

Melissa - you will be chasing your dd round the house before you know it - how cute

Minimeep has been standing with support for a while now - but she can't pull herself up yet! She has puny girly arms and isn't keen on using them at all - so if you put her on her front she can lift her head up but can't use her arms to push up! So I reckon I am safe from furniture surfing and crawling until she gets some muscle in her arms - she does have very strong sturdy legs though!!!

Myfairone · 27/02/2008 16:05

Afternoon all,
I hope that all the LO's with runny noses etc are feeling better today.

Okay, can one of you please talk some sense into me....I have had a really weird day today. Planned to get my hair done and asked my Mum to look after DS (she will be having him when I return to work). I felt really anxious before I dropped him off and the entire time I was in the hairdressers I was thinking about him. I texted my Mum and she had taken him for a walk.

I have no idea what came over me but its almost like an anxiety attack. I kept thinking about how hard it was going to be to go back to work and I felt so sad. I told the hairdresser I wanted to leave and thats exactly what i did....I didn't get it dried and left with it wet. Drove way too fast to go and get LO and saw my Mum walking with him. I put them both in the car, dropped her off, came home and have cried.

What is wrong with me? I feel like a complete fool. I didn't say anything to my Mum but how must I have looked? Wet hair and bundling them into the car so I could get home.

I think I'm going a bit crazy over it....

Thanks for listening,
Love
The completely nuts MFO

Jennster · 27/02/2008 20:15

Yeah you're nuts Myfairone.

Seriously though, it does get easier. You're just a normal loving mum.

Jennster · 27/02/2008 20:18

I on the other hand am a horrid mummy and wished them both a million miles away on Saturday. We were having a lovely time on Saturday in Manchester and then dd started playing up. Dh didn't help and I got all upset. I'm fine now though.

meep · 27/02/2008 20:27

Oh MFO - YOU ARE NOT NUTS - though I am still smiling at the thought of you with wet hair running out the hairdresser (what did you tell them???)!!

To make you feel better............

  • the first time I left minimeep with my Mum she had to order me out the door - I was only going to the supermarket and I walkerd around wiping the tears from my eyes every time I saw a mum & baby !
  • the first time my mum and dad took minimeep for a whole day I phoned just as she was having a screaming melt down - I was round to theirs in 5 mins to collect her (and she was totally happy when I got there!)
  • I cried in the nusery when she went for her 1st half hour settle in again!
  • I kept busy on her 1st whole day at nursery (which I arranged for before I went back to work). I was desperate to collect her but when I got to my car I had run the battery dead by leaving the lights on. I burst into tears and phoned my dad who came to collect me and pointed out that I had the pram and could have walked to the nursery in 5 mins - again!

It is horrid when you first go back to work - you feel sad and you miss them so much. I have now been back for a month and I actually quite enjoy it. The sadness and the guilt have gone - I do miss her but it is nice to have time for me again. And that first cuddle when you collect them from nursery is the best feeling in the world!

I know that right now you feel awful (I cried every day for a month before I went back) - but I promise you will feel okay once you are used to it - and it gets easier.

So - you are not in the least bit nuts MFO - but your story is very funny (though I am sure it wasn't at the time)

Keep posting whenever you need re-assurance

Myfairone · 27/02/2008 21:44

Jennster - I have done that too and that just piles on the guilt! I have heard myself saying 'ITTTTSSSS ENOUGHGHGHGHG' so many times!

Meep - You're an angel in disguise. Thank you so much for taking the time to type that post. You have made me feel better.

To make matters worse, when DH came home I tried to pretend nothing was wrong (hair tied back looking like I just got out the shower and huge red puffy eyes)...anyway, he didn't buy it! He thought that there had been a disaster at the hairdressers...he only had to ask me twice and my bravado left me. I went into meltdown and a whole box of kleenex later I was done! In the meantime DS is happily rolling around the floor playing with an empty water bottle (who ever said that toys had to be expensive!!!!).

I think I'm alright now. I feel more normal (thanks to Meep!). I may need you again Meep nearer the time of my return...

I feel like a total fool though. Used to be so hardnosed about everything..I guess its come back to bite me on the bum!

Night all. big hugs
x

meep · 27/02/2008 22:06

MFO - I did that to my dh too - wailed for an hour and said I couldn't leave mineimeep with stangers!! Turns out that those strangers are lovely ladies who give minimeep so many cuddles and kisses that she comes back smelling of different perfumes!

I used to be hardnosed too - I was going back to work fulltime - ha ha ha ha ha - I had no idea what those chubby little baby grins would do to me!

OrangeKnickers · 28/02/2008 10:13

theprecious here - I changed my name. I was just asking about going back to work on a thread and got some nice positive messages if you are interested.

[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/6/486017?stamp=080228100613 work thread]]

Glad to here it's working out for you meep.

We are good here, I got a new carrier so I can carry ds around again. He's 20lbs now. he's a bit snotty and I am getting used to being used a handkerchief, snotty shoulders anyone?

OrangeKnickers · 28/02/2008 10:14

work thread

dur!

meep · 28/02/2008 13:24

Love the new name but intrigued at the story behind it ............!

Your thread sums up exactly how I feel - especially the bit about being able to read on the commute to work - it is heaven!!!

Myfairone · 29/02/2008 15:28

thanks for the link to the work thread 'orange knickers'! (tell us, tell us, tell us.....pleeeeeease).
anyway, i read the thread and came out of it feeling more positive. i used to love my job before LO arrived and there is no reason why I can't love it again...just need to get my head around leaving him. i've never been good with change in any aspect of my life. just the way i am i guess.

hope everyone is having a great day...we have rain but didn't stop me pushing the pram and dragging the dog!

bilblio · 29/02/2008 22:23

Thanks for that thread OrangeKnickers (why?), I needed to read that. I'm trying to think of positives about going back to work but it seems so hard. he only one I've thought of so far is that when I'm doing my long 24 hour shift I'll get a lie-in as my shift doesn't re-start till 7am.
B wakes at 6am if I'm really lucky, lately it's been 5am. I am going to miss my mid-morning nap though
Unfortunately being a care worker means I'll not get the joy of smart clothes, and I'll probably still be covered in bits of food and have to deal with dirty bums.

bilblio · 02/03/2008 16:38

Happy Mother's Day all, especially if it's your first.
Did all the DP's/children remember?
I forwarded DP an email last week saying I didn't care about birthdays, Christmas or Valentine's Day, but if he forgot Mother's Day there would be dire consequences.

I got a lie-in until 11am! ... with the odd interruption at 6 and 9am to feed B.
Then DP bought me flowers, a card, and a packet of bourbons (much nicer, and cheaper than chocolates )
His Mum bought me a plant and a framed picture of B, and my Dad sent a card too apparently B asked him to as she's too little to go to the shops on her own.

B has done her part too, being especially clingy, trying to climb on my lap to be cuddled all the time, and woke me from my slumber at 11 by bashing me in the face.... darling girl

PinkPussyCat · 03/03/2008 22:29

Hello

Hope everyone is well and enjoyed Mother's Day yesterday! Feeling bad for not posting in aaaages but have been trying to keep up with you all by having a quick read every now + then.

Meep - hope work + nursery are going ok... also hope minimeep's eye is better... How's the 'whole other hairdo' coming along?

MFO - I have done loads of irrational things since having ds, it's so hard leaving them isn't it? I have been sat at the hairdressers' thinking "this is ridiculous. I am sitting here on my arse when I should be at home with my baby". Also went out to Edinburgh for a lovely shopping trip to get new clothes, it should have been bliss but all I could think about was ds and how I should be with him, not traipsing round for silly clothes! And last night dh was bathing him, and he slipped and his head got the tiniest of bumps, and I had to run downstairs and sob in the kitchen. That is just a small number of the numerous incidents I could mention! Surely it must get easier??!

OrangeKnickers - Loving the new name!

2+1 - Hope you and your lo's are doing ok - roll on August... hope the ear's better.

Whilst catching up on thread somebody mentioned 'sex drive' - might have to Google that - never heard of it!

Well ds is now 20 pounds and is the height of an average one-year-old (apparently) all his trousers are getting a bit short - will need to do some baby clothes shopping soon! He has two teeth (lower front ones) and the amount of drooling he does is ridiculous - anyone else got their dc's permanently in a bib? He soaks about 5 a day!!
He is loving his solids, mince 'n' tatties are his current favourite.

Oh and just a small aside - anyone watching the show "Damages"? I am loving it but find it a tad confusing at times!

Great to catch up, take care all!

Myfairone · 04/03/2008 17:53

okay not sure whats happening here...im on page 24 of 25 but cant see 25! arghghggh..

hows everyone today?

you'll be glad to hear i haven't done anything nuts this week! whhoohoooo things are improving. of course i haven't let ds go since my little freak out at the hairdressers but im hoping to get better soon! who would have thought that the hard nose city b*tch would be so pathetic!

so whats going on with you all? my ds has sprouted two teeth! poor little guy is gumming anything he can get his hands on and there are two little stumps there that look soooo cute!

because i cant see the last page i have no idea what the current news is but will just say i hope minimeep is feeling better (and all the others that were unwell).
2+1 i hope your ear is okay...

what did you all do for mothers day? i see that some of you got to stay in bed...no such luck here.

i did get a card though (wasn't worth my dh coming home without one!!!)
your either a card person or your not...i am!
