Hello July ladies, we are here now!!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Jennster · 18/02/2008 21:12

Baby monitor? I don't have one. We were definitely disturbing each other. Or more correctly dh's snoring disturbed us all.

Jennster · 18/02/2008 21:16

You know what catstar? I reckon dental pain is worse than childbirth. I really feel for you. Hope you feel better soon. If you are ok to take ibuprofen you can take that with paramol too.

MillserL · 18/02/2008 23:49

Hi all,

Thanks for the welcome.

Her name is Bláthnaid which is an Irish name - it means little flower or little blossom and it is pronounced blaw nad. It is not that common here.

Doris - B is still with us and I will really miss her when she moves into her own room. She wakes up and I bring her to bed with me - its the only way I can get any sleep.

Never mind - she will be grown up soon.

catstar · 19/02/2008 09:48

Welcome, MillserL - that's a beautiful name your daughter has!

Thanks Jennster - am taking Paramol and Ibuprofen at 3 hour intervals until antibiotics kick in. Although being in labour was horrific, at least I got something lovely at the end of it. I've never had dental pain before and can't believe that after going through all this, I've then got to have my tooth out!

Oh well, it's another beautiful day here - this afternoon I've been invited to meet up with some NCT girls from a different group who I met at a baby group. They are all from a posh area across the A3 so I'm anticipating some house envy on my part .

Myfairone · 19/02/2008 13:29

hey ladies...

catstar - so sorry to hear about your tooth...i really think there is nothing worse than a toothache..its not like anyone can see it hurting you! poor you..hope it gets better soon.

can i just rant for a while? you may remember me mentioning that my lo developed a rash soon after his first bottle of formula...long story short and 5 doctor visits later it seems he has an allergy to milk and it looks like the hydrolysed formula isn't any good for him either!!! grrrr....i have finally found a doctor at my surgery to take me seriously and he has referred us to an allergy clinic at guys hospital and there is a 9 week wait!!!! arghghghghhghggh.....

luckily i am still bf him in the morning and at night so fingers crossed my milk doesnt dry up...

thanks for listening, im so stressed out about this right now i am sitting eating biscuits and having a good ol' cry!

dorisofdevon · 19/02/2008 14:08

(((((hugs))))) MFO- nine weeks might seem a long time particularly if LO is uncomfortable, on the poaitive side you've been refered to the experts now and hopefully it will be less hit and miss and you could still have been battling with your GP!!

There are plenty of different allergy formulas so you'll get there it just might take some time does LO appear to be allergic to any other food?

Thinking of you as the waiting is always the worst bit

DOD

Myfairone · 19/02/2008 15:25

thanks dod...after a brisk walk (resisted the urge to wear dark glasses to cover the red eyes!), i now feel much better...

you're right, i know it will be resolved, just feel bad for lo that he has a nasty rash that must be very uncomfy.

big hugs and thank you.

twoplusone · 19/02/2008 17:13

catstar hope the toothache gets better.. it is awful having toothache.

Anyway better go lee is letting himself be heard..how dare i put him down..lol

Myfairone · 19/02/2008 18:13

typhoonsmum · 19/02/2008 19:23

Hi. Sorry haven't been on in ages. Just forgot to tell you the truth.
James has been "diagnosed" as having Talipes. It was noticed at birth but no-one referred him to physio so nothing was done about it till DP asked me to check with the HV when he was 5 months old. He is now nearly 6 and a half months and going between plaster casts and dennis brown boots. I'm not sure if any of you know anything about treating talipes at his age. Just feels futile. He keeps kicking the boots off and the plasters cut his ankle last time. I've put in a complaint to the hospital but not heard anything yet. He will start to get on the move soon and I don't want him to be delayed by boots or plaster casts.

Myfairone · 19/02/2008 20:32

Hi Typhoonsmum - Im so sorry to hear about James. I have to be honest and say I know nothing about Talipes. Tell us more about it. All I can say is that I hope that you are finding the strength to cope...

Big hugs

typhoonsmum · 19/02/2008 20:53

talipes is also known as clubfoot.

The front of his foot turns in and he has a crease across the sole of his feet and his ankles are stiff and don't bend. His feet aren't as bad as the pictures you see on google. One physio said that they should come out with massage but after a few weeks refered him to another who said it was quite a severe metatarus adductus, even a mild clubfoot and threw him into plaster casts.

Jennster · 19/02/2008 21:16

Aw typhoon's mum that's rotten. DS has mild talipes, and I'm afraid I haven't massaged as frequently as I should have. It's just on one foot, but when I eventually got to 'foot club' (yes they really call it that) on the first wednesday of the month, they weren't too bothered about it. He has full mobility, but is very lazy at straightening it.

agnesnitt · 19/02/2008 22:32

Hello all, sorry have been somewhat absent, I'm good at forgetting things

I hope everyone is well and that things are going smoothly.

We're all okay and surviving this cold spell.

Take care all

Agnes

meep · 20/02/2008 09:42

Oh mfo - don't cry - you have been doing everything you can to sort out your lo's rash - you are a lovely mummy for caring so much. If he is smiley and happy then it probably isn't bothering him too much - I am wishing away the next 9 weeks for you so it doesn't feel too long!

Catstar - hope your teeth are on the mend - I think teeth and eyes are the worst for pain - poor you.

Hi typhoonsmum - your poor wee ds. My goddaughter was in a cast for hip displacement at around your ds's age - so I know how tough it is for you - my friend used to phone me in tears

Hi agnesnitt!

2+1 - virtual hugs flying their way to you - I know what you mean, if dh wasn't here I would really miss his hugs!

Anyway - it is my day off today so off to catch up with all my mummy friends! Am avoiding my work email as they seem to want me to be doing stuff today and IT IS MY DAY OFF - !!!

minmeep now has an eye infection - she just doesn't get any let up does she - poor wee thing!

Doris - have been using lavender oil in the bath and only Metanium - her bot is no longer red and sore - hooray! Thanks for the tip!

theprecious · 20/02/2008 19:57

hello all, hope everyone is well. Typhsoonsmum, sorry to hear about the talipes. I hope your lo doesn't need the plastercasts soon.

MFO - big hugs to your baby too.

OK so I am doing a crazy thing, I have bought a potty (on my mum's advice). I started sitting ds on it today after posting a couple of threads. People were very useful (as ever), BabiesEverywhere has a blog about EC (elimination control). Well we caught three out of five poos, and it's so much easier to clean up a potty poo than a nappy one. I am not trying to potty train ds NOW or soon but just fancy an alternative two years of chaging pooey nappies. I will post the threads I started if anyone is interested.

meep · 20/02/2008 20:00

I saw one of your threads and meant to post on it (but was at work so couldn't!). It looks really interesting - keep us updated on how it goes. A potty is certainly more preferable than a nappy .... or the bath ...!

bilblio · 20/02/2008 20:35

theprecious - not crazy at all. I've been sitting B on the potty for a little while every day for about a fortnight, (and she got good enough to sit without tumbling too often.) I need to start doing it at every nappy change, but I tend to do them downstairs, and I can't decide whether to start changing her bum upstairs, or whether to bring the potty downstairs.

Anyhow, I'm doing it on my Mum's advice too. It seems it when she had us it was recommended to sit them on the potty at every bum change from as soon as they could sit up. My brother and I were both clean by 18 months (my brother much earlier actually as he hated pooing in his nappy) and dry not much later with very little effort on Mums part. Mum looks after my niece 2 days a week and so her and my SIL and have doing the same with my niece she's 19mo and almost always asks for her potty if she needs to poo. Not bad considering the few words she's got.

It just seems logical, to me to get the association between the potty and wee and poo going now, okay, they're not going to understand it, or even be able to feel yet when they need to go, but it's got to be easier than expecting them to grasp it in a week when they're 2.5.

pulapula · 20/02/2008 20:35

theprecious, please could you post the links to your threads?. We started DD on the potty at 10mo and whilst wees were hit and miss, she got the hang of poos really quickly, and we honestly only changed about 5 pooey nappies from then onwards- it was wonderful and well worth it just for that!

DS would be a bit tricky to catch at the mo as he usually poos mid-meal so wouldn't be happy if
we took him out of his highchair before he'd finished! It's like he's making room for more food!.

bilblio · 20/02/2008 20:59

I knew I'd forget something.

DOD - We still have B in with us... although to be truthful, she's in with me, and DP is in her room.
She wakes in the night at random times in the night and it's nigh on impossible to settle her again. There's only been a handful of nights where she's spent the whole night in her cot. Most of the time I give in and she ends up in bed with me.

I need to be tougher and persevere, particularly as when I'm back at work I'll not be there 1 night a week and DP still hasn't given up the cigarettes so is banned from co-sleeping. But on nights when I've been ill, or if she's woken early we've tried for 2-3 hours to settle her back in her cot and she just won't have it, but within minutes of getting in bed with me she sleeps. Sometimes I can move her then, but often I fall asleep before she does, or moving her wakes her again.

I'm thinking of moving her to her own room soon though, in the hope she starts sleeping better, but that involves giving both bedroom a good spring clean and there always seems to be something better to do.

theprecious · 21/02/2008 10:31

one

theprecious · 21/02/2008 10:33

two

There are some great threads linked in on this thread.

yesterday I caught three poos and missed two. Today missed four and caught one. Today is a pooey day!

Going to buy a baby bjorn potty and some vests today - fed up with undoing poppers on ds bodysuits

meep · 21/02/2008 14:38

I think this is brilliant - just not sure how workable it is for us with minimeep at nursery! I will be watching with interest as to how you all get on!

lol re pooey day - we have those - have max-ed 6 poos in one day! That was after lentil casserole

Well - we just got excluded from nursery - ! Minimeep has an eye infection - went to docs on Tuesday who said that it should clear up on its own and that nurseries didn't have to exclude for conjunctivitis! Alas, it is nursery policy and we have to keep her home till Monday. She was a poor wee soul when I picked her up - gunky eyes and looking so unhappy. So I have had to give her the eye antibiotic cream which I was hopeing to not have to use - but she's had it for 5 days now and is just so miserable. Fingers crossed I will get my happy wee baby back soon

Myfairone · 21/02/2008 18:40

Meep, sorry to hear that minimeep has an eye infection, the poor little thing has been through it lately hasn't she!

precious, will read your threads when i get a chance. thanks

bilblio, it was so hard putting my ds in his own room but we all seem to sleep better now.

well i have good news. after finally getting through to guys hospital i managed to sweet talk the appointments centre into giving me an appointment at the allergy clinic in 3 weeks time! bit better than waiting 9 thats for sure!

so in the meantime the breastfeeding continues morning and night and he has the nasty hydrolysed stuff to drink in the day if he needs it.

big hugs to all

pulapula · 21/02/2008 18:56

Poor minimeep- she does seem to get everything going doesn't she? Are your work good about giving you time off to look after dependents when they are sick? We get "special leave" which means you get paid still, and don't need to take annual leave.
