Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Reading the packet of the teething powders, it reads like a panacea

Jennster · 04/02/2008 21:47

And you never know Pula, there may be even more maternity leave by then [lives in hope anyway]

twoplusone · 04/02/2008 22:07

pulapula- I am broody but not quite sure if it is right.. as I said on the thread..must be mad. My head is all over theplace. Not sure if it is because I know this could be my last chance as dh will be having the snip when he gets back... once the decision has been taken away from me I know I will be ok. However if the decision has been made for me already..(we had a night were we got to carried away..we normally use somethingor withdraw..but things were to heated for either!! sorry of tmi.. I am a great believer in what will be will be..
i think i will be ok whatever the outcome.. deepdown.. i really am split 50/50.. (does that make sense)

I used the teething sachets with Scott.. with Lee I have used an american teething gel.

pulapula · 04/02/2008 23:08

Jennster, the government made a commitment to 12 months paid mat leave by the end of this parliament so it won't be too far away.

We delayed trying for DS to qualify for the 9mo PML as i thought i'd get full pay (was disappointed when it wasn't that generous although a 2 and a half year gap between DD and DS works well).

2+1, It's good that you will be ok whichever way it goes. Fingers crossed.

meep · 05/02/2008 09:37

I got my first feeeling of broodiness the other day - but it vanished just as quickly ! I adore the stage minimeep is at now but really struggled when she was born (wish I'd found MN then!). I know that number 2 is meant to be easier to deal with, but I can't quite get my head around going there again. I said we'd start trying when dd is 1yo as I do definitely want her to have a wee brother/sister to play with.
Pula - my sex drive has vanished as well - I can feel inklings of it coming back, and I don't even have the minipill or BF as an excuse - nor am I too tired as dd is a pretty good sleeper most of the time! Mind you, she still sleeps in our room - so that might have something to do with it - poor DH - he is very patient!
Roll on more maternity pay I would have loved to take more time off but we had run out of money (had to save from before dd was conceived so that we could pay the mortgage while I was off - no enhanced benefits at my work )
Minimeep loves the A&P powders - opens her wee mouth for me to pour it in!! We've also used the Boots own ones. We've had to resort to Calpol a few times - when she wakes up really screamming but luckily (touch wood) that hasn't been often!

emmyb · 05/02/2008 09:47

Number 2 easier to deal with???????

I agree you are more confident with the handling of the baby etc. and are not as paranoid. I was shocked at how difficult it was with two!!!! But still great, especially now they absolutly adore each other. Sophie is 4 now so is very helpful aswell. But its hard when 2nd baby doesnt sleep through the night.

Also at first I felt very guilty about ignoring Sophie a bit.

In fact last night wast he first night he has slept from 7.30 - 6.00 yeah.

meep · 05/02/2008 09:55

Oh yikes emmyb! I think it is was the out of control feeling that I found hard with number one and the total paranoia (plus the feeding but that is a whole new thread )! But I know there are other challenges to face - and the sleep deprivation must be worse with 2. But hey ho - I do want another and I know I will get through it! But want to give my hair time to grow back (have 1 inch fuzz round my fringe and temples - yummy!) then I can enjoy lustrous locks for another 9 months or so
Hooray for your ds sleeping through though - I am sending sleepy thoughts his way for tonight!

Good luck justabout! Have a lovely Easter!

twoplusone · 05/02/2008 12:13

ok justabout have a good easter see you in 40days xx

Jennster · 05/02/2008 14:47

Oh goodness Justabout. Not sure I could cope with that. For lent I am going to read at least 4 books (now ds in his own room there is now excuse to not read) lose some weight by not snacking and being piggy, and not waste food by being more frugal.

Myfairone · 05/02/2008 15:58

twoplusone - good luck for wednesday..although i am sure that you will cope no matter what. dont forget, we are all here for you!

sex drive, whats that?

meep, glad that minimeep is feeling better. shes going to be immune to just about everything by next month! bless her.

talking of af...i haven't had one since giving birth (i assume because ive been bf). now that lo has started to cut down on milk i have started to feel very hormonal and also extremely spotty! i think its pretty cruel really because when your pregnant everything is wonderful, hair nails etc. and then as soon as you have them it all falls off (nails) and out (hair) and your left feeling exhausted!
me thinks me may be getting af....

been battling with lo over the bottle again today....he eventually took it when he realised i wasnt going to give in and breast feed him...its so hard though!

big hugs to all and i hope that everyone is well.

emmyb · 05/02/2008 16:21

Ive just received a new pushchair from tinternet. It seems fab, its the concord neo. I saw it in the new mothercare catalogue and thought must have that my old one from dd1 is heavy and well used. Anyway couldnt get one from mothercare as not stocking yet for a few weeks but could get online at mc. Trouble was didnt like the colour but liked the idea of trying and taking back if I didnt like it.
Anyway I decided to buy from kiddicare as they had a nicer colour and it came today.
Its very nice.
I think ill just use it in the house tho, dont want to get it dirty .

theprecious · 05/02/2008 18:39

see you later justabout!

emmyb - oooo the concord neo looks fab. I am going to be picking up a second hand Quinny Zapp next week. It will be my fourth pushchair so far .....the third was a maclaren and I have kept that, but sold the other two.

I do love a new pushchair (or new to me anyway).

pulapula · 05/02/2008 19:25

I already have 4 pushchairs, so must resist checking out this corcord neo!

Well, DS had his first taste of formula today. I have been finding it hard to express milk lately so decided that DS will just have to have formula on his nursery days, so thought I'd better check he'd take it before I pack him off to nursery tomorrow. It seemed to go down very nicely.

I am feeling sorry for myself, as I have suspected mastitis. I thought I was past those days of dreading the latch-on and having to grit my teeth through it! Hope the antibiotics work their magic soon.

Myfairone · 05/02/2008 21:21

Gone are the days of dreaming of new clothes or make up...we all dream of new pushchairs now!!!! isnt mother nature wonderful!

pula, sorry to hear that you have suspected mastitis, i know how painful it is and hope that your antib's work soon.

im still trying to get little one to take the nasty hydrolysed formula but the little man isn't too impressed. its so hard to persist when i know how disgusting this stuff tastes.

okay, nite all. sleep well.

meep · 06/02/2008 08:08

I only have one pushchair - it is one of "those" pushchairs and I love it but as it cost me as much as a 2nd mortgage I must not allow myself to succomb to pushchair envy no matter how much I would like a umbrella fold up McLaren thingie

pula - sorry to hear about the mastitis - that is rubbish for you - hope it clears soon

When do we move our wee ones into a forward facing car seat - anyone bought one yet - which one did you get? This is our next big purchase so want to get it right! Oh - final question - how long do they stay in this next one?

Off to the Botanics today - will be minimeep's first solid lunch out - wish me luck

jellies · 06/02/2008 11:12

Hello I'm not sure if I've said hello before Ds3 born 26/7/07 wasn't due till 14/8 but he has cought up, just started solids last week I'd almost forgotten how much fun it was Ds2 is 4 in april and Ds1 is 5..
Hello

Jennster · 06/02/2008 13:05

Hello Jellies. Glad to hear your lo is doing so well.

meep think the guidelines say not before 9 months, and depending on the seat itself, then to a maximum of 13kg. I beleive that rear facing seats are safer than forward facing seats and even if lo is scrunched up in seat, if they haven't reached the maximum weight for the seat (or their head is over the top) then a rear facing is safer. Dd was tiny and in hers until she was 13 months.

MelissaM · 06/02/2008 15:15

Hello and Welcome Jellies. Glad your ds is doing well.

Jennster - re seats - dd is now 9kg and her head is right at the top of her rear facing seat - does that mean she doesn't fit it now? I get really confused

twoplusone - thinking of you today.

Hi all and I will catch up with what you have all been up to.

twoplusone · 06/02/2008 15:48

Still no show!!!.

DH said I am not allowed to test till sat.. I will be doing one tonight or in the morning..

Re car seats.. DS and dd were in the 2nd stage seats until 3.. DD was in there for long journeys even at 4. The only reason ds came out of his at 3 was I couldnt fit that car seat, the baby car seat and dd in the back.

Jennster · 06/02/2008 16:22

MelissaM, I'd search on here for an answer. I'm no expert and would hate to make you shell out when there isn't a need. I think as long as head will be caught by side pads then it's ok. If her head extends beyond the back of the seat then think she is too long for it. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Jennster · 06/02/2008 16:23

How exciting (2+1) Hope you get the result you want....

pulapula · 06/02/2008 18:14

With our DD, we switched to forward-facing when she was around 12 months old, although DS is nearly the same size DD was at 1 (9kg)!

I know the next stage seats start at 9kg but first stage can be used as long as LO 'fits'. We decided when DD was too heavy to carry in her seat it was time to move up. Won't be long before we get her old seat out of the loft for DS.

2+1, I suggest you test in the morning as first wee is 'best'. If you can hold out that long that is!

Myfairone · 06/02/2008 20:22

hi all,
re the second stage car seat, i asked in mamas and papas today and was advised that the second stage are not suitable unless your little one is 24lb (she said that some mothercare ones are from 20lb) so depends on the weight of bubba rather than age.

2+1 - any news? been thinking of you today.

hi jellies, glad to hear all is well with your little ones.

i had success today getting lo to drink the nasty hydrolysed stuff! woohooo! his rash is still really bad but doesnt seem to be bothering him.

spent the evening cleaning...heaven only knows why! i could do with a sit down but decided my kitchen floor needed my attention!

nite all.
