Epaderm can be used as a soap substitute too, as can Aqueous cream which you can buy a massive tub for a quid or so if you haven't got to prescription stage.

Snap Meep - I had the NCT girls round yesterday. Our babies were all born within 3 weeks of each other and there are massive differences between them. Little O appears to be the laziest of them all, but has 2 teeth which none of the others have!!! I always tell DH what the other babies are doing and he comes over all competitive Dad and wants to score points .

Re eczema - it's all very confusing when different GP's tell you different things. The main thing is it's under control at the moment, but I still hope to be refer to a dermatologist soon.

Breakthrough - Little O slept until 7 this morning so I feel like a new woman. Even went for a run which was near impossible on the way back due to wind resistance!!! There are Christmas trees strewn all over the place here where people have left them out to be collected and the winds have blown them away!!!

Off to the dentist later to get my broken tooth fixed. DH will pick me up and then drive round with Little O so she gets a nice long sleep!

meep · 10/01/2008 13:01

2 teeth!!! None of ours have teeth - but plenty of dribbling and hand chewing!
My DH gets himself all worried about developmental things - he is always saying "we'll need to try to get her doing tummy time/sitting up etc etc". I used to worry but am quite happy now - she is good at the things she does and will do everything else when she wants to. Was very proud of her today as she mastered the art of opening her hands to when playing clappy hands!
Catstar - minimeep slept from 7 till 6.45am - I am going to have the NCT girls round again - all the excitement must have tired her out (she has already had 2.5 hours worth of naps this today as well ). Hope your tooth is okay.

PinkPussyCat · 10/01/2008 14:21

No teeth here yet either, but loads of drooling/chewing going on. He is still The Gumster.
We also have a touch of 'competitive dad' here too - asks if we've done our sitting practise today etc when he comes in. I just say yes to everything!

catstar - @ 'went for a run'! I am soo unfit, couldn't run for a bus. Good for you. Lol at visions of you fighting your way home through dead christmas trees! I'm sure the bin men will be dead chuffed at having to chase them around the streets. Hope the dentist goes ok. At least you'll still be exempt from charges I suppose

meep - good work on the sleep front! I didn't realise how knackered/crap I felt until ds started sleeping through and I felt alive again. It's funny how your soul kind of 'gives in' and accepts being tired as a normal thing.

Better go + tidy... expecting parents soon.

MelissaM · 10/01/2008 14:49

Jennster - sending {{{}}}hugs - good luck with the scan whenever it is.

Princess - good luck with the sleeping and sorry to hear of the comments others were making. Go with you gut - you won't go far wrong. And we're always here to support you.

Well weaning is going ok here. I seem to be feeding Evelyn at different times every day, because her naps are all over the place! And from being like clockwork - I am finding it very stressful not knowing when she will want to go to sleep!! Next week I am going to try to be tougher (probably won't work as dh is travelling most of the week so I will be a wimp). We've tried baby rice, carrot and apple. So far all have been eaten, although there is some spitting out. Oh and a bit of my banana yesterday. I've bought some pears which I will stew later for the next couple of days. Guess we'll be adding breakfast too from Saturday - see how that goes down. Evelyn usually sits in her high chair while we have breakfast anyway, so guess it will just be a case of feeding at the same time!

meep - dd doesn't roll or like being on her tummy either. But she does like sitting up and has wanted to sit since she was 4 mths. She's trying to bum shuffle too, but keeps falling over!

Jennster · 10/01/2008 17:08

Hope your gob not too sore catstar.

Ds has the skids Luckily dd at nursery where she uses their nappies and so I have enough. What would I do without my washing machine and drier!

emmyb · 10/01/2008 18:35

Well we have 3 teeth here and the top one is one of the side ones!! The Hv gave it a special name when that happens but I cant remeber what it is. She reckons two bigguns at the top are on their way too. He has a very mature mouth!!! Takes after me and Dh in that respect.

He also does not seem to want to move much or really sit up, but is very vocal with lots of different expessions and sounds.
He is eating three big meals a day on stage two jars when he has them and he ate a full egg yesterday and then a pud!!!! He is filling 9-12 mth clothes. Ive not had him weighed for a while but he is heavy!!!! He is a very happy baby he is constantly smiling and laughing,. I left him at the childminders today for the second time (first time in Nov) was harder this time. Im back at work in 6 weeks so he is going for one day a week until I go back for ME to get used to it cos I know he will be fine being Mr Laidback!!.

James isnt sleeping through yet he wakes at 4 ish for a cuddle then at 5.30/6ish for milk.

Hi PPc and Meep- nice to 'see' you!

No teeth here yet but I don't think they'll be long. Very red rashing checks, major chewing (well more gnawing at everything) and sudden screams. I don't envy babies!

Had to take her to the docs today, she can't go to the loo (sorry if the following is TMI!) its there but really hard and won't come out and it was making her bleed and cry in painb. We just had 45 mins of trying to keep a suppository up. The things we do for our bundles! Doc said to just feed her yoghurt and give her a bit of freshly squeezed orange juice for a couple of days.

pulapula- Happy Birthday.xx
Hope you had a great day

catstar · 10/01/2008 21:49

Sorry Pulapula, must have missed that it was your birthday - hope it was a good 'un.

Wow emmyb at teeth and food!!! Your LO sounds like a big bundle of joy!

Me & Little O sharing food today as I have a temporary bit on my tooth - for two weeks!!! It looks like I have a blob of chewing gum stuck on it. As ever, the injections were the worst bit.

I found some Bickiepegs in Boots today and thought I would see if Little O would enjoy gnawing one. She just looked really suspicious and went back to chewing her singing caterpillar!!! Why are their favorite toys the noisiest and most garish?

pulapula · 10/01/2008 22:38

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I didn't do much as I didn't want to go out as DS is sometimes unsettled in the evening and only i can settle him at the moment. I only stroke his head or say a few words but if DH tries he screams! So MIL might have found it hard if he woke.

My DD was really excited about it being my birthday and it was lovely to have her sing happy birthday to me. She kept asking when all my friends were coming round for my birthday party as she had a big 3rd birthday party 2 weeks ago. Ahh.

meep · 11/01/2008 20:15

Belated happy birthday pulapula!
Had a disastrous lunch today with my chums from work. Because I had to fit in with their lunch hour it interupted minimeep's nap. Cue thumb sucking and rubbing eyes just after we'd ordered - fine I thought, I'll pop her in the buggy and she can sleep - oh no, she screamed the place down and would not be comforted by anything, even milk! So there was me, pushing the buggy round the back of the restaurant with a screaming baby trying to avoid the disapproving looks from all of the "suits" eating there!
I didn't even get to eat my food - and left early and of course as soon as we got outside minimeep gave me one of her angelic smiles and went straight to sleep!
Princesspowersparkle - is your dd okay now - that sounds awful - I always give dd fruit for tea as someone told me that keeps them regular - so far so good, she is pooing nearly every day!

Princesspowersparkle · 11/01/2008 20:39

Pulapula- Happy Birthday! only a few days late....!

Meep- Shes getting there, still screaming but we on day 2 of these thing the doc gave us so should see some improvement soon. Fingers crossed!! Shes been sucking on orange pieces today so that should help too.
Its awful when they get out of routine. I can generally keep Seren amused for a bit in restaurants now because I give bits to eat but have been through a fair share of screaming lunches!

Happy Friday night all,
Jennster- thinking of you, hope you get the scan/x-ray soon...the waiting must be awful but try to take heart in what the surgeon said..

Well Mairi is just getting over her first tummy bug Considering she has been vomiting quite a bit and off her food she actually still seems remarkably happy?! Ironically she was very constipated and I was having to really increase the amount of fruit purees (plus fresh OJ) and then she got the bug so constipation hasn't been a problem! I'm under orders to pack in as many calories into her purees as possible so she's having a carbs/fat/protein filled concotion followed by pudding of whatever ripe fruit I have available mashed up (and no banana, which definitely seems to constipate her, even when very ripe). But she's pretty much off solids at the moment, although still breastfeeding a lot.
Hopefully tomorrow she may be back on form. We still have no teeth either, mind you DS didn't get his first tooth until 13 months old so in spite of teething symptoms I'll be surprised if DD's arrive soon... Though she seems to be able to bite me when feeding sometimes!!!

Those of you still breastfeeding- have you all had periods yet? I still haven't, even though I started M on solids over a month ago. I vaguely recall it being 6 or 7 months before I had one with DS but can't help wondering when they'll return... Though should be glad at not having had a period in 1 yr 3 months!!

PinkPussyCat- yep the strand is only 5 mins from our house! love it up here, though I'm from S. England originally- DP is the native! We also lived in Belfast before moving up.

Have a fun friday night girls... Not getting out much either as DD is very attached to me at the moment, and being a bit of a monkey with her bottle- will take it happily once a day- but only from me!! DP has just managed to get her to take it though so will have to keep ensuring he does it. DP was a bit poorly monday (yep, he brought home the evil tummy bug!) and minded the kids while I went for a cycle... MelissaM I empathise with the wind...felt like I was cycling uphill all the way home wind was so strong. Nearly died am so unfit! No time for exercise these days it seems... Trying to do sit-ups each night in a vain attempt to get rid of the c-section 'step'

Right, thesis beckons...oh the joys.

Jennster · 11/01/2008 23:43

Urgh ds had it now dd has it but of course she is on food so her nappies are gross and stink! Just been to her first birthday party which was brill if it weren't for the first, second, third and fourth nasty nappies in 2 hours. I promise I would have thought about not taking her if I'd known about it before we had got there...

Just had my christmas present from by bil tonight. Babysitting, taxis and pudding. Tried to get into a few places, and ended up at a noodle bar where the heating wasn't working and the waitress was walking around with a coat on. Food was good, but dh ordered an espresso which came in a MASSIVE mug he dared not drink it other than a few sips. (We don't really do coffee so wouldn't be able to tell if it was strong or not) I had 'homemade' american cheesecake which was SO not homemade and not american enough but OK.

Have a good weekend everybody

theprecious · 12/01/2008 08:52

sorry to hijack the thread with a selfish post but Wahey! Ds has just self settled himself to a nap. I walked out of the room to put the kettle on, I've gone back in and he's asleep - no crying or anything.

Gosh I am pleased.

OK so he was up twice in the night (gave him water) but am v pleased about this.

Jennster · 12/01/2008 09:32

Yay well done littleprecious

theprecious · 12/01/2008 10:05

yes, I should add that it's taken a month! This is after being inspired by littlepulapula.

Or ds has just got to the age where he's happy to do it.

Well I'm glad that my little DS has been inspirational but his wonderful sleeping, but things have gone a bit haywire of late, although he does still self-settle. His 2x2 hour naps where I had to go in to wake him have stopped - maybe he's getting a bit older and doesn't need so much sleep?. He now sometimes just has 2x45 mins which means I don't get time to have a rest after washing bottles, tidying up etc. I'm typing this while he lies in his cot after another short nap in the hope he might go back to sleep but doesn't sound like he will! He does seem to be OK on it though (sometimes he needs a third nap), although is shattered by bedtime and falls asleep on his bottle. At nursery on Weds he only had a nap of 1 hour at noon all day!

Is anyone else still swaddling? I am trying to stop it but still do a loose swaddle for naps, and swaddle at bedtime (otherwise he wakes after 45mins). But after his dreamfeed I leave him unswaddled to get used to it.

And I haven't had any periods yet but am on the minipill which I think means I might not anyway and with DD, they didn't return til a month after I'd stopped BFing.

pulapula · 12/01/2008 17:08

justabout- a dreamfeed is where you feed them without waking them, usually around 10-11pm in the hope they'll sleep through to morning, rather than them waking you up in the night. DS is now so used to it he opens his mouth when i lift him and stays asleep throughout.

But by around 7-8mo or when solids are established its best to phase it out so they learn to go 12 hours. if your lo managed 12 hours last night, then he's doing fine without one.

oh and another hijack - isn't Swedes2Turnips2 (used to be Caroline1973?) on our thread...she got quoted in the round up emails sent out by mumsnet and Morningpaper. I was V impressed.
