Oh dear - poor you Jennster - lol at her biting (though I'm sure you don't find it funny!)! I suppose it's what I have to look forward to..........yikes!

pulapula · 07/01/2008 10:13

Jennster,

I'm not sure the terrible twos end really (sorry!)

My DD is 3 and we still have the ongoing "battle" over getting dressed, eating, behaviour etc- they just become more sophisticated e.g. my DD will say to me "Daddy says I can (watch telly before getting dressed/have crisps/not have a bath etc etc)".

We never have had any biting issues (she was on the receiving end of lots of biting at nursery tho), so not sure what to suggest there, but guess the obvious things are rewards for not biting/timeout or naughty step when she does.

pulapula · 07/01/2008 10:17

Jennster- we also followed your approach at meal times- bib on before starting a meal and down from the table once she started messing around. She is very good at the table now, and asks for a bib, and asks to get down etc. I think its the best way- friends of mine would say "they just won't wear a bib and this is the 4th change of clothes today etc etc"...

Hi all...
Just a quickie before ds wakes. Hope everyone is well and getting plenty of sleep!
Going back to the subject of eczema, i was at baby & toddlers this morning, and one of the other mums there is a dermatologist who happily looked at ds's skin, and invited us to take part in a trial of a combination of wet wraps and epaderm and/or steroid cream. So we are off tomorrow to the outpatient clinic to get all the creams etc. Then they are reviewed weekly by the dermatologists. Her special interest is baby eczema! How lucky was that?! So looking forward to that...

Meep - could you alter your 'settings' so as I can drop you a wee email (or CAT or whatever they call it) Talk soon!

twoplusone · 07/01/2008 21:24

PPC good luck with the trials..

It is my bday today.... 32!!
SOme friends have been round for a chinese then we have played on the wii. Which was good. Have had a few glasses of Baileys mInt with lots of ice.. May as well get rid of it before I start my diet. lol

Anyway of to cuddle up on the osfa with DH.. unless I can persuade him to play baseball!!

Take care all.xx

pulapula · 07/01/2008 21:36

Happy birthday 2+1. Sounds like you've had a fun day.

I'm a fellow Capricorn- I'll be 36(!!!) on Thursday.

Theprecious- if you are around- i hope you are ok after some of the reactions you got on your sleep thread. I am with you that there is nothing wrong with trying to cut out night feeds, and that you and DS will both benefit from a good night's sleep.

PinkPussyCat · 07/01/2008 21:54

Happy birthday twoplusone! I will be 32 in April (eek)

The Wii is supposed to be good for burning off calories, dh is desperate to get one to 'lose some weight'

Will report back tomorrow with all the gen from the hospital, TTFN x

meep · 07/01/2008 21:57

Happy birthday to you 2+1...chinese, Baileys and wii..sounds like a lovely birthday to me!
PPC I think my setting is good to go!
Pulapula I was lurking on Theprecious's thread - some pretty harsh reactions - Theprecious handed them really well.

meep · 07/01/2008 22:25

Dh and I have just decided not to wake mini-meep up for her 10.30 feed - keep your fingers crossed for me that she sleeps through!

PinkPussyCat · 07/01/2008 22:31

Hi meep! Hope your night goes ok will email in the morning... heading to bed.

theprecious - I have just had a look at that sleep thread, I must say there were an awful lot of unreasonable comments there, I agree you handled them very well indeed. I think I would have been too spineless to reply + probably run away! Good for you. Hope you get those night feeds sorted soon x

Night all

meep · 08/01/2008 09:15

dd slept from, 6.45pm until 6.15am - whoo hoo!!!! there was one shout at 1am but I just reached over and rubbed her tummy and she went back to sleep. I had been toying with the idea of dropping her dreamfeed (well it was never really dreamy - she would be wide awake and smiley!) because she never seemed that ineterested in drinking her milk and would only sometimes have some after she'd been awake for 20 minutes! And she wasn't even gasping for food when she woke up - we played until 7am then milk
I am under no illusions that she will sleep through every night but am just happy to be able to say that she has done it once

madmumNika · 08/01/2008 11:51

Hello all! been offline for a while and there's been so much chat! trying to catch up with you all...! Welcome newbies!
And Happy New Year everyone!

All is pretty good in our camp, had busy xmas with relatives staying over, last lot left on Sunday...lots of cleaning still to do but glad in a way of the peace (if you can call it that with two DCs). Was lovely though. DD is doing pretty well, still on daily nebulisers but seems to be fighting colds well, next CF review tomorrow so fingers crossed her chest has cleared. She has taken to food very well, has 3 large meals a day of home-cooked concoctions...and still breastfeeds 4-5 times a day then has one bottle too. She's started waking at 4am for a feed though which is a bit exhausting, but that could be because we've shifted bedtime from 10.30pm to 8.30pm. She still a very happy baby and such a joy, and luckily DS still adores her and is very protective of her. They are just so lovely to watch together.

DoD- so sorry to hear your DD2 was in hospital right up to xmas, that must have been so hard on you all, really hope she is doing ok now ((((( )))))

Does anyone elses LO get constipated now we've started weaning? I think DD doesn't get on too well with baby rice, as she really struggles to go a few hours after...and it sometimes wakens her at night the straining (but this is probably not helped by sometimes giving her too many enzymes which she needs before each feed for her CF). I do offer her water with each meal, she takes it from a cup, and still breastfeeds quite a bit... Have introduced weetabix at breakfast mixed with fruit which seems to help push things through! She loves sucking on orange segments and toast too at the moment.

Is anyone who is breastfeeding beginning to wean their little ones off yet? I have been considering it, but as I'm not working for the time being apart from my 3 mornings a week which I've been doing for a while I don't feel I need to yet, plus I'm hoping DD is still getting some immunity from my milk over these horrid winter months.

We had snow last week which was fantastic although had to wrap DD up so much you could barely see her- DS loved it though!

DS is going through a bit of an anxiety phase at the mo, hope it's not anything I've inadvertently done...he's quite clingy again (he's 2.9 yrs) & it doesn't help that for DD's hospital trips as we have to stay over a night as hospital is so far away and DS hates me being away...

OK meant to be working on thesis now but am procrastinating...

Hugs to you all xxxx

Jennster · 08/01/2008 12:34

Glad to hear things going well for you MMN. Sounds like a pretty hectic Christmas.

We've not started weaning yet, and ds can't even sit up anyway so no hurry. Also not going back to work until April gives me the reassurance that I didn't have last time.

Just seen a surgeon today about a breast lump which he assures me is probably normal, so just need to wait for a non urgent xray appointment. Found it last Wed, at Dr's Fri, appointment today isn't bad! I'm sure it's nothing, but best to be safe than sorry with my family history.

meep · 09/01/2008 07:51

Morning!

Hi madmumNika! Can you get your dd to teach mine how to eat! dd loves sweet potato - but so far everything else has been spat out!

Jennster - must be very scary - have my fingers crossed for you (not that I need to - I am sure it will all be fine)

emmyb · 09/01/2008 09:59

PPC I bought DH the Wii for crimbo. We tried the boxing out on Sat and my arms are still a little sore!! I couldnt move them the next day. DH had to strip of as he was sweating I reckon its grerat excercise!!!

Jennster I had a lump just after DS was born and it went on its own, i went to the doc s they said it wasnt anything serious. My mum also said she had one about this stage after having me or my bro i cant remember and it was just a milk duct. Hope all is well.

PinkPussyCat · 09/01/2008 10:53

Hi Madmumnika - Just had a wee look at your profile and it took me back as we used to live in NI (first in Belfast then moved to the outskirts of Hillsborough) Have enjoyed many a brisk stroll along Portstewart strand! We both miss NI a lot (even though we are scottish + back home now!). Good luch with the thesis btw

Emmyb - dh came back from a friends house at new year having spent the whole evening playing the boxing thing, he could hardly move his arms the next day! lol

Well, we went to the dermatology clinic yesterday for ds to enrol in this 'baby eczema trial' It's to see whether wet wraps over epaderm is just as good as wet wraps with epaderm+hydrocortisone. So we are in the group using just wet wraps + cream. It's four weeks in total, using wraps + cream for the first 2 weeks, then just cream in the 3rd week, followed by what they called 'rescue hydrocortisone' if required in the fourth week. We go back to the clinic every Tuesday for a review. So the wee man has his arms + legs bandaged! I must say his skin looked great this morning when we took them off. So here's hoping it will make a big difference to him.

Jennster - thinking of you, try not to worry. (Easier said than done, eh?)

Meep - hoping to get to Auld Reekie for some retail therapy on 26th Can't wait!

Jennster · 09/01/2008 14:34

Thanks folks, I'm sure it'll be fine. They're not worried about it, so I'll just get nervous the night before whatever scan

theprecious · 09/01/2008 15:37

hello all - good luck Jennster, sounds scary but I am sure it will be fine. Everyone is down on the NHS but when my dad had a cancer scare they were GREAT.

Thanks for the support on the sleep thread and here. JustAbout... sent me some good mails too. It all got a bit OTT over what I thought was a simple question. You'd think I'd been asking about if I should stick pins in ds.

Here's the link to it if anyone is interested bad tp

Good news about the exema trail - it will be interesting to hear about the results.

Jennster · 09/01/2008 16:27

Thanks theprecious. I'm just about to post on that thread.

Princesspowersparkle · 09/01/2008 19:41

Hi All

Hope you had lovely Christmas and new years.

The Precious- I only read 2 pages of that sleep post but I honestly can't believe what people were saying! As it happens, I agree with you and am aiming to try and stop the night feed in a couple of weeks. I also did controlled crying for my daughter (the first night she was crying for 2 hours). I do not feel mean. I know what my child needs and will do it. To hell with what anyone else thinks! I don't really have any suggestions apart from the few nice replies you had saying get your DP to try and settle him instead of you. ALso, I think its called the no cry sleep solution, if your son wakes up about the same time every night, gently rouse him about 45 mins before. Not so hes fully awake, but so his pattern of sleep is disturbed so that when he falls back to sleep he starts a new cycle so shouldn't wake up. Might be worth looking into? (sorry if it was already mentioned as I didn't read whole thread!)

Seren is now sitting pretty much unaided (except when she sees a toy she loves and gets so excited she topples over). Nowhere near crawling although I'm not sure when they are supposed to do that. She doesn't really like laying on her front either so might just give crawling a miss! She now scoffs 3 meals a day and weighs 13lb 7oz and is FINALLY in 3-6 month clothes!

Haven't had time to read right through so I hope everyone and their babies are well.

PinkPussyCat · 09/01/2008 19:59

Hi Princesspowersparkle!

I only made it here in the last few days or so... nice to meet you

Love the name Seren, have not heard it before but it's very pretty + feminine.

Hope everyone is well this evening, catch up later

catstar · 09/01/2008 20:07

Good luck everyone with sleeping/feeding! We're all over the place at the moment with each day being different to the one before. I figured I'm not going to try to do much about it until Little O starts nursery in March, and will then try to establish some sort of routine. She's still waking before 6am everyday and have tried variuos things to try to influence this, but...... Oh well, she's going straight through from 7pm (with a dream feed at 10pm) and is so lovely when she's awake I'm not too bothered!!!

PPC - will be interested in your eczema trials as wet wrapping a real possibility for us. At the moment the Diprobase/Eumovate seems to be keeping things at bay, but it seems to be creeping back . Strangely, the doctor I saw most recently said that Epaderm is very strong for babies and can "burn" their skin. He also said that the Fucidin I had been prescribed by another doctor was way too strong for a baby!!! Let's hope we get referred soon.

Hope you don't have to wait too long for an xray appt Jennster.

PinkPussyCat · 09/01/2008 22:59

Catstar - was it a GP saying this about epaderm + fucidin? Grrr... they do get on my nerves... This is WRONG. They are safe, so don't worry about either of these.
The wet wraps are actually very easy, it doesn't take up much extra time at all.
He does look a bit like the michelin man though! I'm looking forward to the outcome of the trial though not sure how long it will take to get the results, I guess it will all have to be written up + presented properly.

Hope everyone has a good night...I'm off to bed as dh is on the dream feed tonight!

meep · 10/01/2008 09:05

re Epaderm!!! A Doctor friend of mine told me that they use it on babies in hospital and it is the safest thing for them. It's just so hard to know what to do.
PPC am very interested to hear the results of your trial - lol at your wee man looking like the michelin man though!

Suffering from excema myself (with a huge flare up 4months post birth and coinciding with the mahoosive hair loss - yes I looked very pretty ) - I think dirfferent things work on different people - the only problem is that our babies can't tell us what is and isn't working! I use Aveeno cream and wash my hands with Dermol500 oiintment. I use both on mini-meep - but the main thing is to make sure she is properly dry afterher bath and to keep her skin from getting dry. Also - if you have to go down the steroid route (and sometimes you do ) make sure that you don't stop when the rash goes - use it for at least 7 days - teeny tiny amounts and it should stay away.
I'm now using Fairy non-bio instead of Suracare and there is no diference apart from our clothes smelling nice again!

Hi Princesspowersparkle! Mini-meep is also nowhere near crawling, doesn't roll and doesn't like being on her tummy - but she's a good sitter so maybe we'll have bum shufflers!

My antenatal group were round at mine yesterday (babies ranging from 6.5months to 5 months) and there is an incredible variety of what they can and can't do - our youngest is the best at rolling whereas mini-meep is one of the oldest and has never rolled!

the precious - I think you came off really well in that sleep thread - a lot of the posters just seemed to want to shout you down without really looking at what you were asking. Hope you had a good night last night too. It is fab when the night feeds stop
