dooby, that sounds horrendously scary, but you did everything right and should be proud of yourself for not panicking

sorry, but am ROFFLING at Pinions, you know we agreed you were deranged? You really didn't need to prove it by snorting Ryvita

NorthernLurker · 11/11/2007 00:13

Have added some pictures of my girls to my profile if you want to have a look

elkiedee · 11/11/2007 00:18

Bumble, great to see you back. I'm sure you're a fab mum and if you read any threads on mumnset where anyone makes you feel otherwise, just come and talk to us. (I've been there).

Pinions, that sounds like a ridiculously embarrassing way to injure yourself.

Dooby, that sounds terrifying. Could you ask your health visitor if there are any suitable courses? My postnatal group included a session on reviving an unconscious baby, though I must confess I wouldn't be confident about remembering the content.

Eddas, lol at your dd wanting to swap her brother, glad she changed her mind. Hope your mood lifts again soon, and that you enjoyed your meal and have a great time in Brighton.

Nutty, hope your Erin starts sleeping better again soon.

Hi of course to everyone else.

Today has been quite relentless - dp told me this morning that he thought going out to work was more tiring than being at home with D - I was a bit surprised as I thought he does quite a lot of being with D when he's home - he did take it back this afternoon though.

liath · 11/11/2007 07:51

Morning.

Pinions - how's thr ryvita this morning, has it dislodged?

Dooby, that's a good idea about going on a resuscitation course. DH had to resuscitate dd the day after we got out of hospital (she inhaled secretions and stopped breathing) - I'd almost forgotten it had happened until I saw WO's post. He was bricking it but able to deal with it sensibly as he's done lots of resuscitation training for work. Thankfully I was asleep when it happened!

Am pretty tired - the bloody next-door neighbours decided to have a firework party at 1030pm last night and let the fireworks off in the bit of their garden that is right outside the back of our house. Cue hysterical shaking dd who ended up in our bed all night. I don't know how ds slept though it (not that it stopped him waking up several times overnight). Grrr. I was so cross I opened a window and attempted to yell at them (difficult when you've lost your voice) then realised I was only wearing granny knickers and a T-shirt .

StealthPolarBear · 11/11/2007 08:30

lol liath, sorry you've had a bad night though
NL your pictures are lovely and I am now officially broody

Eddas · 11/11/2007 08:52

Pinions I hate ryvita, it's evil and you just proved i'm right! Hope you get it sorted, sounds painful.

Dooby, how scary, poor you and ds. I'd be petrified too. I often think about going on an infant first aid course because I wouldn't know what to do in lots of emergencies. DH has done a first aid course for work so i'm fine when he's here. Actually, i'll look into it soon.

Off to Brighton for the day today to see my sisters new place. My brother's coming too so will be great to catch up with everone all at once.

Off to run around like a loon and get all the stuff ready to take with us, could take a while

CaptainDippy · 11/11/2007 09:12

Very, very, very brief catch up; but hope you get the Ryvita out of our nose Pinions (had a little LOL I have to admit ) Poor thing, must be v.uncomfortable.

Oh octo, you must feel awful - the P n T's fell into the road with younger two in it when P was only about a month old. Felt terrible, we all forget stuff and make mistakes. You beautiful boy will never remember it sweetie. {{{{{{hugs}}}}}

P screaming, gotta buzz with boobie .....

oooggs · 11/11/2007 09:57

CaptainDippy · 11/11/2007 10:15

Oh gosh Dooby - Just ready our post - How frightening for you - You reacted fantastically though, well done you - Praying it doesn't happen again and was just a one off - Sorry you have had to go through this sort of thing a lot too, BWI - So scary when children do unpredicatable things, isn't it!!? xx

CaptainDippy · 11/11/2007 10:26

Just before I head off to ANOTHER Birthday Party - A quick cheeky bump for the new pics on my profile for anyone who hasn't seen them!!

mammyjo · 11/11/2007 10:58

mammyjo · 11/11/2007 11:01

Oops, what happened there?! Hope all ok. Pinions, hope the ryvita is successfully removed!! Sorry, I know it must be awful for you, but it did make me chuckle

Oooggs, glad you had a good night for your anniversary

Dooby, that sounds so scary. I would have freaked. Glad you are both ok now.

That is as much as I have managed to catch up. Hope everyone is doing ok. Have good Sundays all xxx

StealthPolarBear · 11/11/2007 15:42

Well where is everyone?
I am alone in the house for what i have worked out is the 3rd time since T was born, so I thought it was worth recording the event
Better go finish the hoovering

liath · 11/11/2007 15:54

Interesting in light of the talk of babies stopping breathing, first aid courses etc. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/66/419778

weeonion · 11/11/2007 16:01

afternoon folks. i will post personals later but..... can anyone help out. c is really not sleeping / napping through teh day. we have a battle to get her to go over and now her naps oly lat about 20mins. she goes to sleep cross and wakes up cross. i have tried the whole shush pat to get her back over but to no avail??

tips?

Turkeyandsproutsx3 · 11/11/2007 16:09

Dooby - how scary for you - mine have never done it but blowing on their face straight away helps as it makes them gulp.

Dippy - cute pics Phoebe is a chubba! Who ate all the pies?? hmm - own up P we know it was you!

WO - do you know what is waking him when you put him down? Do you wind him before he goes to sleep? Do you have a daytime nap routine - for example - I use the same blanket, give him his noonoo - kiss him on the head and neck (at which he chuckles a little ahhhh) then always say night night and walk out. Curtains closed/lights already out - no faffing with mobiles etc.

HTH

Turkeyandsproutsx3 · 11/11/2007 16:10

sorry her not him LOL

PinionsAndHerPumpkinClub · 11/11/2007 16:22

The only way to get them to sleep at this stage tbh is controlled crying. So you have to be strong within yourself. It may seem harsh/uncaring but imo it is worse to let them get overtired during the day. They need to sleep (around about 3 hours) through the day in order to aid necessary mental and physical development. They will need daytime sleep for the next 3 years so the sooner a daytime structure is established the better.

Other news.

My ryvita has now cleared thank goodness (I think the bath thing sorted it out). Absolutely killed but the brandy helped ha ha. Hope you are all having a good weekend and are getting out and about. Back later!!

cazboldy · 11/11/2007 17:02

oh cd just looked at your pics and they are lovely!

PinionsAndHerPumpkinClub · 11/11/2007 17:26

Yes photos are fab dippy had a sneaky peak but forgot to comment, sorry.

Forgot to mention nutty. You mentioned you were waiting for someone to turn up to film you, please tell me it's not what I think lol !?

My nose feels a bit rough. The "bit" came out and it was microscopic, but sharp enough to cut a diamond. ouch.

T is doing the rocking thing as we speak, and finds everything funny. Please stay at this stage, please.

Mwah ha ha ha ha.

Off to find something under 400 cals to eat for tea, fun.

Turkeyandsproutsx3 · 11/11/2007 17:32

I hope you are going to write to Ryvita to complain

normabutty · 11/11/2007 17:35

pmsl Pinions . It was a student at the uni wanting to film me about my birth experience and my views on midwives. I had to go to Leeds Uni for it so had to get dh to drive me there and they didn't turn up til 30 mins late by which time we were on our way home

Am about to cut dh's hair and hoping Erin doesn't need too much attention while I'm doing it.

PinionsAndHerPumpkinClub · 11/11/2007 17:45

Yeah do you think I would get any compo!(Hope E has recovered you cruel woman!!). It really hurt tbh I felt like a right tit trying to explain to the woman at the hospital what the problem was.

All I kept thinking was, my god what if it was something really personal, because you had to describe at length what the problem was before they would even register you. I once had a very personal problem mwa ha, and had to explain but the dpt has changed since then. There was about 2 feet between you and the the q of people and everyone could hear every single word you said, oh well.

Nutty, good for you for taking it that far and at least getting some recognition, sorry they did't turn up are they going to reorganise it for you?

Right am starting a techie thread for new emoticons, please feel free to contiubute. Will see if it gets us anywhere. It's fun at least.Am a great believer in people power.

normabutty · 11/11/2007 18:17

I don't think they're reorganising it. I haven't even had an apology .

Dh now has short hair again!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 11/11/2007 18:30

WO, can't help much I'm afraid, but did want to say that I don't agree with Pinions completely (but don't tell her cos she'll flatten me ) because have never done or needed controlled crying for daytime sleeps. Joe does get over tired but I find that following a similar pattern to Octo works for us, he may whimper for a few seconds but if he crys for more than 30secs I know he's just not tired enough to sleep
