Here you go Eli!

I almost put 'your clothespegs' on the end there. Ds loves clothespegs. Came home from Rainbows the other day and dp had made a deal with ds. He could play with the clothespegs as long as he did it in his playpen and let dp make dinner.

I've had a nightmare day today really.

DD2 is actually quite naughty. She keeps turning the PS3 and Xbox360 on and off. She keeps going into the fridge. And today she managed to get a dishwasher tablet out of the box, sealed packet and take a bite. Fortunately I got her straight away and washed her mouth out but whatever I say or do she doesn't listen. Now I know she's only 14 months but DD1 (a HSC) has always been pretty obedient and always responded to No, distraction, time out etc. I dont know what to do with DD2 as she is naughtier and seems to have selective hearing. Tips please?

I'm soooo tired. My cold has just about gone (2 weeks on) and DH is being great but everything just seems neverending.

jabberwocky · 09/02/2008 00:27

I'm in the same boat, FGS. DS2 is such a little imp! Totally different from ds1. Ds1 was never this busy IYKWIM.

babypowder · 09/02/2008 11:31

Snap, FGS.

What is HSC, if that's not being nosy?

I was away yesterday for work, and didn't get back until 8:00. I was exhausted from getting up at 5, flying from one end of the country to the other and back again, sitting in an intense workshop for 4 hours. But honestly, DD2's sheer delight at seeing me walk through the door made it all disappear. Not that I have children to boost my self-esteem (that doesn't last long!), but it did make me feel fantastic

Apparently they did dancing at the nursery yesterday. The nursery nurses were amazed at DD2's head-banging, thrashing technique. That's her dad coming through again

accessorizemybaublessanta · 09/02/2008 12:46

I'm not getting all these abbrev. either, bp. Explain pls castles and jabber!!
Lovin' the image of a dancing baby p...DS just kind of bumps up and down whilst shaking his maracas, he is so keen on music whilst bored with any book complete opposite to his brother.
I had an imp for a first child, am quite relieved ds2 isn't the same, he's just too darn lazy.
Have just got conjunctivitus and sinusitus at the same time, so I'm not even noticing I'm pg! The pharmacist gave me very vague advice about not sharing towels, jabber (so I shall go and wash them all) anything else to avoid the ds's getting it? Can I not kiss them?
FGS, I'm glad you're feeling a little better with the cold, but how's the mood?
Think of Elibean in Barbados as we enjoy our sun!

accessorizemybaublessanta · 09/02/2008 12:51

Missed the rest of your post there FGS, I scan too much! I don't think there's much to be done with a 14 month old really, just remove as much of the temptation out of her way as possible, lock on fridge, doors etc and put other stuff out of her reach. She's not being naughty, just investigating. DS1 exactly like that, he used to remove every single one of my cd's from the rack about 17 times a day despite my going nooooo at him, go into every cupboard he could etc. It only struck dp and I yesterday that ds2 has not even touched them and ds1 was doing it at 9 months! It's maybe bothering you more because you've had such a cr*p 2 weeks!
Right, MUST change my name, it's nearly valentine's!

jabberwocky · 09/02/2008 15:04

Sorry guys, HSC is Highly Sensitive Child. You know those kids who go off if the tag on their clothes is scratchy? Classic symptom, but there's lots more. Unfortunately ds1 is to the extreme of having sensory processing disorder where he overreact/reacts inappropriately to LOTS of stimuli. But the Occupational Therapy is helping.

Conjuncitivitis, ick. Kissing is fine as long as you don't rub your eye on their cheek Have you started drops or is it viral? Try to keep your eye clean of all the gunk and rinse with saline if you have any.

Augghhh! Dh forgot to put the lock on the toilet seat and ds2 just stuck his hand in the water. We never had to have locks for ds1. Such different children...

accessorizequeen · 09/02/2008 15:23

urgggh, jabber, Why are they so obsessed with toilets? DS2 is interested in that at least.
thanks for conjunctivitis tips! Just had 2nd lot of drops, it's not too bad. Good to know I can still kiss them

Indith · 09/02/2008 15:31

Ds loooooves to lick the toilet seat

I'm very tempted to take ds to be weighed next week. He really has lost weight, I find it a every time I lift him. Still he is eating pretty well again now so hopefully he will put it back on soon. Tis very nice to have a happy chappy again

FGS ds loves turning things on and off. The front buttons on the tv have a piece of card over them and we use the remote intead. He has now worked out how to press the main on/off button though so am trying to work out a way to cover it while enabling us to press it. Gets very irritating at times!

OP posts:
jabberwocky · 09/02/2008 15:56

Somehow ds2 has figured out how to consistently turn up the volume with the remote

FGS, you have my deepest sympathy on the energy front. It seems like once one gets drained it takes forever to recover.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 09/02/2008 17:55

I cant wait until Spring is here! I'm sure some sunshine will do me the world of good.

DD2 a bit grumpy today but we just got a take-out from McDonalds so both DDs are eating fishfingers and fruitbags and playing with their Happy Meal toy on the sofa. They both look very grown up and very happy!!

MyOtherPersonalityIsTheSaneOne · 09/02/2008 23:04

Right, quick post so you're on my list next time -
hope you aren't all getting too annoyed/upset with the naughty mischievious babies/toddlers

DD3 is now thoroughly a toddler, and we got her first shoes the other day ( at the price though). She seems to fall under the 'fairly obedient' category for now - although she is always trying to type if the pc is on when she is around. She has her own old remote (no batteries) to play with and leaves ours alone unless we leave them on the floor.
She also is trying to speak. Very indistinctly though.

Right, bed now, goodnight.

Indith · 10/02/2008 10:32

Hello Godzilla

Can someone please tell me why ds deems it necessary to continue teething right now? Has at least one more coming through and although he seems much happier most of the time has little meltdowns where he really cries out in pain it is horrible

He is delighting in sticking his tonge out at people though

OP posts:
Olihan · 10/02/2008 20:59

Hey Godzilla, long time no typing on here! Glad you're all ok.

Indith, ds2 is teething again too. He's okay during the day but it's disturbing him at night (no surprise there then). He seems to like cutting at least 2 at a time which isn't much fun. How's his ear now? Have I missed an update on that?

I'm going away on Wednesday for 2 nights and a day at a spa [very over excited]. It was my present from my mum for my 30th birthday when I was really heavily pg with ds2 so this is the first chance we've had to go. I can't wait but it'll be the first time I've been away from ds2 overnight and I'm a bit concerned he'll be a terror for MIL. I'm hoping the spa will relax me so mch I don't even think about it!

Indith · 10/02/2008 21:17

Tis the nights here too Oli. Was up for a fair while last night cuddling hnim back to sleep after a dose of medised. The ear seems to be getting better by itself thankfully, by the time the blinking tests come back they won't be needed

I'm finding it very odd how ds seems to mature overnight these days. These past couple of days have been so different to before he was ill. The crying is getting far more 'grown up'(you really know about it if he is in actual pain rather than tired or bored) and he interacts so much more. tis baffling. Blink and you'll miss it.

A spa! sounds very exciting Oli, shall expect a full report

OP posts:
Olihan · 10/02/2008 21:40

I'm noticing huge changes in ds2 as well. In the last week he's started saying 'mama' meaningfully, he points to whichever thing he wants from a choice of 2 (banana or orange, for eg), he says 'yes' or nods to questions - this morning he was grouchy and I said 'are you tired?' and he wailed 'yes' and lay on my shoulder [soppy] - gets out a cup if he wants a drink, climbs down from his highchair when he's finished, follows so many more instructions, says 'quack, quack, quack' in the right place in '5 little ducks' song. I'd forgotton what an incredible age 13mo is. Every day there's a new trick. It's just amazing to watch. I love it. I'd quite happily keep him at this age for ages (minus the teething, obviously!).

castlesintheair · 10/02/2008 22:23

Jabber, always happy to talk about our DS's. [email protected] or facebook, whichever you prefer

I'm amazed at how DD2 is 'speaking'. I'm sure my other 2 weren't this early. DS keeps telling me things she says for example he was playing with his remote control formula 1 car today and she toddled up squatted down pointed at it and asked "what it?". She's started repeating words, "lego" I noticed yesterday. If she's tired she goes and lies on her front on a sofa and says "bed" and sometimes falls asleep. She's so cute: very laid-back but sooooo naughty, the archetypal domestic terrorist.

babypowder · 10/02/2008 22:33

So sorry about all the teething problems. Horrid stage. DD2 still seems to be stuck at 5 teeth, and I'm just dreading molars.

DD2 didn't go to sleep until 10:00 tonight, having been awake at 4:30 this morning. I'm soooooooooo tired, and poor old DD1 ends up getting it in the neck when it's relly nothing to do with her. She just has this way of pushing buttons when I'm not 100% ...

Only 3 days work this week, then off to MILs for some much needed mothering! Would prefer a spa break, TBH. V jealous

FunkyGlassSlipper · 11/02/2008 15:37

DD2 fell down half the stairs at a friends house today. I saw it in slow motion. She seems ok, is alert and awake. But i feel like such a rubbish mother

Indith · 11/02/2008 17:03

oh FGS don't worry about your mothering skills They've all had accidents. If it helps ds still has a slight flat bit on his forehead from when he nosedived into the tap when small. And I still have 'did I do the right thing should I have taken him to A&E moments.'

OP posts:
babypowder · 11/02/2008 17:29

Hope you've managed to calm down now, FGS. I get myself into such a tizz when things like that happen. I'm glad there's no damage - except to your nerves.

I found WHITE hair in my head this morning. DH (49) doesn't have a single grey hair, and there's me (37) going WHITE FGS (not you, Funky!) Am most disgruntled. Particularly as, with typical arrogance of youth, I said years ago that I wouldn't dye my hair when it started to go, I would just leave it to follow its natural course. I shall book my salon appointment tomorrow.

And to top it all off I pranged the car today. Jolly good. I just want to bury my head under a pillow.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 11/02/2008 18:56

Thanks Indith and BP. I know the A&E or not scenario well .

She was active and alert this afternoon but then at about 5 a raging fever hit her. It is 5.5 days since her MMR jab so I'm guessing it is the measles part She's in bed already with no bath or milk.

I just wish I could feel on top of everything for a bit. The last few weeks have been truly shite!

accessorizequeen · 11/02/2008 19:59

Awww, fgs, you're right, you really need to catch a break! Hope dd2 better soon. DS2 fell down several stairs last week despite my being right there, hard not to feel responsible AND guilty but you know we're neither.
BP, hard to tell which you feel worse about, white hair or prang! Quite jealous that you are only now finding white hair, I've had them since 31 (now 38). They make your hair coarse too, I hate 'em! Mine needs dyeing now but wondering whether I should (although no evidence to say I shouldn't, yet another bit of advice to stop pg women EVER enjoying themselves, I soooo want a glass of wine tonight but am trying to hold off for 1st trimester). Stayed off work today as eye infection so rotten they were slits, people staring at me in boots.
Oli, spa sounds just what you need and deserve

Indith · 11/02/2008 20:19

My mum has had white hair forever, sister has some already too (she is 26). I am seriously hoping I take after Mamie not my mum as for a long time my mum had more white hair than her mum! Think Mamie has caught up now but at 87 she is allowed.

I spotted yet another white spot on Ds' gum so the teething is far from over. That will be 4 so far this session, so of them pre molars

Is it 2 pre molars you have? I had many lots of teeth out in an attempt to make them look straight as a child so I forget how many he has left to go!

OP posts:
MyOtherPersonalityIsTheSaneOne · 11/02/2008 21:41

Sorry to hear about the teething los (although DD3 is teething, she isn't making a fuss , most of the time anyway). She seems to have skipped the pre-molars and gone straight to the molars though...has anyone had this?

She is 'saying things'...she is saying 'Zis?' for what's this
And who else's lo is totally obsessed with books?

babypowder · 11/02/2008 22:08

My LO loves books! She hands them to me and bobs her head up and down until I read to her. She loves it when DD1 'reads' to her as well.

She still isn't talking much, though. Just 'hiya' and the perennial 'bavarois' for everything. She is very good at pointing at things until she gets what she wants!
