Here you go Eli!

I almost put 'your clothespegs' on the end there. Ds loves clothespegs. Came home from Rainbows the other day and dp had made a deal with ds. He could play with the clothespegs as long as he did it in his playpen and let dp make dinner.

Argh!

Ds still in scream mode it seems. Creche said he was ok today, a little grizzly but ok and he ate his lunch and loads of toast for his afternoon snack. Got home, he started screaming. And he screamed. And screamed. And screamed. He ate a bit of breadstick. And threw up a little. He calmed down and ate a little apple. And threw it up.

Argh!

He is at the end stage of cold which involves coughing like he is dying from TB but I fear we are still teething. He keeps shoving his fingers to the back of the other side of his mouth to where the molar is

On the plus side I have made brownies for tomorrow sling meet.

Just need all the washing to dry now so I can pretend I live i a tidy house.
at the moment it is occupying 2 airers, the sides of the playpen, 2 radiators, the banisters and the shelf under the ironing board (tis a wire mesh shelf and I have a jumper to dry flat)

Morning Guys.

I'm full of cold and it has got into my eyes so they're all puffy But, the girls seem ok today so I will be thankful. Off out this morning and also going out to cinema tonight with a friend

Indith - I'm sure you're right about schools but it is disappointing not to get our first choice really. We're only a few hundred yards out of the catchment. Unfortunately it got an outstanding Ofsted a few weeks before the admissions deadline. Our catchment school on the other hand is a failing school. The choice we've been given is ok but further away. We've gone on the waiting list for our 1st choice and we also applied to the next county which we hear about in a month. I guess the main problem we have is that DD is quite sensitive and I believe she'll need a certain environment to thrive in....

Anyway, I'm rambling

DD2 has just started saying 'yeeeaaah' when you talk to her. Its very cute

FunkyGlassSlipper · 29/01/2008 07:51

And we are .7 miles away from the school we've been turned down from....

Indith · 29/01/2008 12:24

You rant away dear

Hosted a sling meet this morning. None of the real sling collecting regulars could make it but ds didn't moan tooooo much about being made to demonstrate various carries to the 3 bumps who came.

Nobody ate any of my brownies......such a shame I'll have to eat them all instead

Ds seems to be going for subdued rather than too screamy today and is lying over my knee watching cbeebies. He started signing back to something special. Cutest thing ever

FGS, sorry about the school....do you hear earlier than us, then? Its such a stressful time, from what I've seen, and am about to find out (March 21st, in theory, but thats Good Friday ) Are you appealing? Do kids get in off the waiting list a lot? Our closest primary starts off with dozens of disappointed parents, then gets nearly all kids in because loads of people who put it down 1st are only doing it as back-up to something else (presumably private). Good luck Jabber, too.

So sorry to hear lots of poorly babies, and Oli whole families. S'pore sounds wonderful, should cure many ills! I went to school there in '68, would you believe - a zillion years ago, but I liked it so much they are some of my strongest early memories.

Starting to get excited about holidays...BF's DF's funeral is over (and was lovely, IYKWIM), worms are at bay, and though dd2 is still streaming she's v cheerful; in spite of sore looking gums and a v sore bum (nappy rash, not worms, I think!).

We had a slightly horrid hospital apt on Friday for her, routine one with ENT re larynx, it wasn't the consultant but a switched off registrar who said 'oh, I can 'scope her if you like, to see how her voice box looks now - she'll probably complain'. There was no reason to, really, and its pretty intrusive, so I said NO. DH said NO. Registrar said 'ahha ha, if its any consolation I've had it done a dozen times to me by medical students'. Me: 'no, not really, because you're not 14 months old' Reg. got v cross and defensive and thwarted and basically discharged us 4 months before he should have done

But I will make an apt with the consultant and have her seen once again in the summer anyway - she's still a fearfully noisy breather at night. Silly Registrar. Sorry, think I needed to get that off my chest...

Elibean · 29/01/2008 13:13

Indith, you don't have to eat them all, you poor love - send 'em to me I'll save you from yourself

FGS, sounds so frustrating - oh god, will be ranting with you in March, most likely. What do you think re waiting list?

jabberwocky · 29/01/2008 19:52

Good for you for sticking to your guns, Eli! I hate it when it just seems they want to practice and it's not really necessary.

FGS, I checked our school's website and they still don't have a date for release of applications!! Since I may well be camping out all night in front of the school to get one I would really like to know ASAP I've heard rumors of March 1st and others that it will be the end of March.

babypowder · 29/01/2008 22:22

Gosh, what a struggle for school places. It must be such a worry - sometimes it's quite nice not having a choice.

Any brownies left, Indith? I need some chocolate. The last 2 days have been all about DD1 and her eating and sleeping (not much of either ), and I'm just about at my wits end. Still trying to be Wise and Consistent Mummy though [weary emoticon]

DD2, on the other hand, is being an absolute star! It's like tag-team mummy baiting. One is fine while the other goes completely barmy for a while, then they switch roles!

Good for you, Eli. It's the kind of thing we should all do more of.

(Indith, on which side do Rainbows wear their blue Guiding badge - right or left? We always wore ours over our heart, but that was sometime back in the stone age!)

FunkyGlassSlipper · 30/01/2008 13:06

Elibean - yes we get our admissions results now and the next county gets them in a month. I have been told the thing to do if you dont get the place you want is accept the school you've been offered (so you dont end up with nothing) and then go on the waiting list for your 1st choice. People move out of the area, go private etc and often a place will come up. The waiting list is definitely a good idea. And the school I spoke to will phone you and let you know what position you are on it

I've decided not to appeal as we have also applied to the next county and our absolute first choice is there.

Indith - cant believe people didnt eat your brownies! I would have eatent the lot.

I am still full of headcold. I've been parent helper at pre-school today and have pre-school committee stuff to do this afternoon.

DD1 is well though. And DD2's cold is improving. She has started saying 'yeeahh' which is very sweet.

Indith · 30/01/2008 15:16

The right I think BP, at least that is where adult leaders and senior section wear theirs. Don't think it matters too much for Rainbows though.

OP posts:
babypowder · 30/01/2008 20:26

Thanks Indith We're such a talented and knowledgeable bunch.

Elibean · 30/01/2008 22:05

FGS, yes, thats what I've heard too. Good luck! Glad the colds are getting better, your turn to feel better now...

BP and Indith: major confession coming up - what exactly are Rainbows? Is it a Guide thing? not so knowledgeable, huh.

dd1 has been unusually naughty today, think its because my mother is staying. EVERY time my mother stays dd1 acts up/out. She's probably just acting out how I feel

dd2 is turning into a toddler at a rate of knots. I took her to be weighed at BAby Clinic (finally) but she remembered her vaccinations of last week and yelled the place down the minute I started taking her clothes off! I gave up and took her home

Indith · 31/01/2008 07:54

That's right Eli, Guides for 5-7 year olds

Ds is a nightmare. Having been used to/spoiled by his sleeping 13 hours a night I now can't remember when he last didn't wake during the night. He has been waking at silly o'clock in the morning too. In fact he is currently down for a morning nap . He still has a cold so wakes with face caked in snot and eyes covered in goo, plus I spy the second half of the molar coming (so patience wins, it is in fact the right sort of tooth in the right place) and a bottom one has started poking through. The poor boy must be in agony most of the time

I request more teething time out after these ones please, I prefer my little boy when he is merrily romping around the house emptying my cupboards.

In non baby related news, having hoped that we would stay in this house til we buy somewhere it looks like we will be continuing our tradition of at least one move a year and move out in August rather than renew our tenancy. The landlord (understandably) wants to go back to student let as he makes more money so in order to ensure (yes he still manages to be polite about it) that we move out he is putting the rent up by £150 a month from August. Well for that much extra we can live in a nicer area and probably have a garden too. Oh well.

OP posts:
Indith · 31/01/2008 07:55

It is soooo windy outside and raining too. I do
NOT want to have to go outside in 20mins!

OP posts:
FunkyGlassSlipper · 31/01/2008 09:20

Had to get a neighbour to come over and look after girls while I went to bed yesterday afternoon. Damn headcold. I am still full of it and feeling very sorry for myself

accessorizemybaublessanta · 31/01/2008 11:54

How're you feeling now fgs? Did you have to miss out on your movie too?
Indith, you forget how horrible the teething is until they start again, seems to drag on forever doesn't it? Poor little mite. So you won't be able to buy in August, have to rent again? I hate moving, could not stand to do it as you have had to (although we do have, I suspect, a great deal more stuff!).
DS2 still has morning nap, he looks tired an hour after waking most days!
Oli, is it now 4 weeks? How is life in the oli household?

Elibean · 31/01/2008 14:56

((FGS)) headcolds can be the absolute pits for feeling rubbish. Hope you start to feel better fast.

Teeth....dd2 is definitely teething, though nothing to show for it yet and she still only has the four. Its horrid, isn't it? FWIW, at least teething hell will be over earlier for you Indith - though I do agree its better to have breaks in between for everyone to recover. Hope you and ds are getting plenty of chocolate brownies to make it bearable

And I'm sorry re the house, too - what a bummer. Do you love the one you're in? Any chance of a similar one nearby?

Indith · 31/01/2008 17:15

FGS hope you've managed to rest a bit and will be feeling better soon.

Ds has been picked up early from creche. Am once again kissing goodbye to study time as I doubt I'll send him tomorrow. He is so snuffly, screamy and has a temp and vomited everywhere at creche

Re house it is a bit of a funny one. It is not in a great area and we have talke about moving as we have had the back gate forced and the car damaged twice but it is very cheap and huge. As in 3 huge bedrooms, all with double beds and loads of floor space going spare. Great kitchen etc. But for what the rent is going to go up to there is little point staying in this area. Ah well, at least this time we will be able to take the time to look around and hopefully we can get an old house again. All the new build stuff around here is so small. Friends just moved house and their double bedroom only just fits a double bed, with one side against the wall!

Am going to need a garden shed though, what will I do with all the stuff currently in the privies out the back?

OP posts:
Indith · 31/01/2008 17:19

Sorry, missed off the teething sympathy for Eli

OP posts:
jabberwocky · 31/01/2008 18:42

Too bad you have to move again Indith. I'm hating the packing already and have got loads still to go.

Eli, 4 teeth still here as well, but he started drooling quite a bit the other day so maybe getting ready for a few more.

FGS, so sorry about the headcold. Horrible when you feel bad and the kids are running all over the house. Last time I just wanted to scream out "Just let me be sick and in bed!!"

FunkyGlassSlipper · 31/01/2008 20:01

If I worked I would have had 3 days off sick this week

Olihan · 31/01/2008 21:03

FGS, that's when being a SAHM is the pits, isn't it? Hope you feel better tomorrow. Are you taking lots of Lemsip, etc?

Eli, sympathies. DS2 is also a nightmare when teething - no sleep and miserable.

Indith, poor ds. Lots of snuggles and bfs for him.

AQ, thanks for asking. We're doing okay. Ds2 and dd are still not sleeping well, so I'm getting 3-4 hours of broken sleep a night, usually with at least one or other in bed with me but the ADs mean that I'm coping most of the time. 4 weeks and 1 day to go.................
