Here you go Eli!

I almost put 'your clothespegs' on the end there. Ds loves clothespegs. Came home from Rainbows the other day and dp had made a deal with ds. He could play with the clothespegs as long as he did it in his playpen and let dp make dinner.

feel as if I've almost been AWOL too long to jump back in. Have I, or does the whole Xmas thing make it feel that way?!

All is calm here, no signs of walking, still only 4 teeth, but dd2 has learnt to drink with a straw, put dd1's dolls to bed, shout her sister's name from dawn to dusk and other dubious achievements. Is it just me, or is the most adorable, gorgeous, lovely age? It seems to be going so fast.

I packed up a big bag of surplus/outgrown clothes and toys last weekend....mixed, mixed feelings..

Am with BP: shall cheer on Sacha and Indith and anyone else feeling broody and trying.

well done baby Glass!

Elibean · 07/01/2008 16:27

Forgot - on the subject of nipples: dd2 had her cheek against my chest in middle of the night during coughing fit t'other day. She suddenly pulled my nightie and said 'drink?' (or more exactly, 'boi'?') And followed it up with the noise she makes when feeding toys, sort of 'nam nam nam'

She was 8 months when I stopped BFing, surely not nostalgia?!?

Indith · 07/01/2008 16:30

Wade right in, stick around!

(can anybody tell it is essay time again, I swear my threads I'm onm list is longer than ever)

That is so very very cute and absolutely amazing from your dd, that she has that memory! I also find it amazing how verbal she is. Ds still just bablles away. He tells me very intense stories at times but I dont' have a clue what any of it means

FunkyGlassSlipper · 07/01/2008 16:39

Eli - that is funny. DD2 keeps opening my top and looking for 'something'. I stopped feeding about 3 months ago...

babypowder · 07/01/2008 17:12

Eli, so pleased to see you again Welcome back!

DD2 isn't saying very much either, Indith. She says 'ta', and what sounds awfully like 'bavarois', but couldn't possibly be (although she does love custard, so maybe ... )

She's lying across me ATM feeding for Britain. She's only been away from me for 8 hours, but you'd think it was daaaaaays.

SachaF · 07/01/2008 18:20

Thanks FGS, that's why I'm stopping getting my hopes up each month as that doesn't help! (although secretly every month I still do). It will happen when it happens
Well done baby FGS! The nap is very impressive!
No real talking from ds. He does occasionally say his name, often dada (but don't they all even if they don't have daddy's?) and even rarer mama but can't always link word and meaning. Lots of brmm when pushing a car tho and his grandaddy has taught him to do a noise like a red Indian noise with hand and mouth - so I'm never sure if he is asking for more food or just making noise!
Very bizarre babies Elibean and FGS, but also cute! nostalgia indeed!

accessorizemybaublessanta · 07/01/2008 18:52

Goodness, perhaps I'm not interpreting ds2 right as it all sounds like gah gah goo! Aside from the mum mum's. DP & I swore blind that ds1's first phrase was 'vote Hoynes' from West Wing as it's all we watched when I was pg with him and he was wee!

DS2 has been interested in my mammaries also, twas v.upset today when I read your post Sacha as it occurred to me I might have been able to keep on with him - he refused 3 nights in a row and I stopped offering, he didn't ask.

I am veering from full-on I want another baby to god, no, enough is enough Suspect I'm getting depressed about work etc, so best not think about it right now or I could end up pg when I don't want to be. I shall cheer silently from the sidelines Indith and Sacha!

Elibean · 07/01/2008 20:43

aaah, its good to be back.

I suspect dd is putting all her energy into communication because none of it is going into standing or walking - she can barely pull herself up yet, just like her big sister was. But her words are limited to everything beginning with 'B', which is quite handy in French - 'drink', 'ball', 'balloon', 'ball-which-really-means-satsuma'. She can also do Papa, Maaaammmm, and Eya (Elia, her sister), quack like a duck smoking 40 a day, and miaow. A genius, in other words

FGS, relieved to hear I've not got the only boob-nostalgic on the bb

Elibean · 07/01/2008 20:45

And see, 'bavarois' begins with B....

...and so does 'brrrm'

Not sure what that proves, think I need an early night

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 07/01/2008 22:03

DD2 manages Dah! in lots of different tones and pitches.

Well done baby glass!

BP couldn't you put a nice big blue plaster to camoflage the scratch?

DD1s first day at nursery today. She liked it enough to throw a huuuuuge paddy on the way home and run away twice. I have bought a wrist link today.

babypowder · 07/01/2008 22:18

Margo, there were times today when I could forget that I had a great gash across my forehead. But really, there were fully grown adults, professionals to a man (and woman), doing the full-blown, cartoon double take. And they seemed to believe that I couldn't see that they were talking to the top of my head. I may be under 5', but no one has ever spoken to the top of my head and got away with it!

Now I know what Harry Potter must feel like

Olihan · 07/01/2008 22:43

Eli, good to see you back . How's your dad?

Indith and Sacha, I'll cheer you on too. I'm in a '3 is enough' phase at the moment.

I'm very about admitting this but ds2 watches Dora the bleeding Explorer and shouts 'Backpack' at the right moments . Actually, it's more like 'Bapa' but it happens when the backpack bit is on. Who says TV isn't educational!

Other than that he says 'cat' to our cats (and MIL's dog - so clearly not quite got the hang of that yet!), 'bash' accompanied by the matching action , 'bang' when he slams the cupboard doors (are you seeing a theme here?) and various other sounds that aren't actual words but have definite meanings.

He's also into nodding and shaking his head - 'do you want a nappy change?' provokes a very definite shake of his head, little monkey .

Anyone else's lo's having major strops when things don't go their way? DS2 is throwing monster wobblies, including hurling himself backwards so I almost drop him. I remember it being a fairly short lived phase with dd at a similar age but I don't remember her having quite as many!

Well done baby glass, you'll have to give ds2 some tips, please. I'm meant to be leaving him overnight in about 6 weeks (eek) and he's not keen on sleeping without mummy there. Not sure quite how to tackle it, tbh.

Elibean · 07/01/2008 22:49

He's ok, thanks Oli, waiting to hear when treatment starts and what it is - probably hormones and radiotherapy, but all scans were clear so cancer seems to be still well contained in prostate.

Very impressed by your ds and backpack! Have to also admit that dd2 watches Dora (and Lazytown, and Maggie and the Ferocious Beast) but she does it silently, with mouth open in amazement most of the time

Elibean · 07/01/2008 22:51

And yes, dd2 will arch back and shout (O god and she can shout, is it a second child thing?) and throw mini wobblers when thwarted. Thankfully, they last a few seconds and she can be distracted - I do remember dd1 doing the same.

BP aka Harry, I somehow missed the forehead story before - ouch: second Margo's suggestion, might as well capitalize on the double-takes

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 07/01/2008 23:05

yes, get a barney the dinosaur plaster ( do they do them?)

Olihan · 07/01/2008 23:11

That's good news, Eli. Hope the treatment doesn't take too much out of him.

BP, I've got some lovely Shrek plasters if you like .

FunkyGlassSlipper · 08/01/2008 08:14

Lol. DD2 loves In the night garden. She squeals when Iggle Piggle comes on screen.

We get a few words - all D ones. Dada. Doddo for her sister (dont ask), Dowdow for 'get down' Dowdare for downstairs. She has also taken to pointing to certain clothes in her wardrobe when I am getting clothes for and getting quite angry if I dont pick the ones she wants. wtf?? I need to nip that in the bud.

accessorizemybaublessanta · 08/01/2008 10:53

V.good news about your dad, eli
How's the gash today, bp, what plaster did you go for, hee hee.
I think ds2 must be concentrating on cruising and there's not much lang development going on here (I do like the varying tones of gah, Margo - that describes ds to a T!).
Sat in my office wanting to just hit something as there's a big crane power washing the building and it's gone on for hours! I had to work from home yesterday, it was driving me crazy. I can't think straight, argggh.

accessorizemybaublessanta · 08/01/2008 10:54

Oh, and no tv here - he won't have a bar of it. Rats. I'm sure I had baby einstein on at 4 months with ds1!

Elibean · 08/01/2008 14:05

A crane washing your building, AQ? Actually, could do with one washing my house

I have some Charlie and Lola or Disney Princess plasters to add to the BP-adorning collection...

dd1 has had nightmares two nights in a row, keeping her/me awake for over an hour at 4am. Vipers the first time, 'scallions' (scorpions, I think) the second, and I'm knackered: no more TV bar the Magic Roundabout and Maggie (my favourites ) or DVDs for the next two weeks to see if that helps!

accessorizemybaublessanta · 08/01/2008 16:11

[sniggers at Elibean] Well, no sponge but giant hose and men in black outside my window. I think they've moved round the corner now, so peace at last.
DS1 has had nightmares from the most innocuous things (actually the C&L episode about alligators had some effects!) - shows what little sponges they are. Thank god he can't turn on the tv himself yet as the buttons are impossible

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 08/01/2008 16:55

eli - What if she really means "scallions"? I don't think you'll be serving salad for a while (another word for spring onions).

Sorry to be so flippant. On a more serious note, how do we help children who have bad dreams?

Touching wood as I type, but I haven't had to use a plaster on either of my dds yet.

Elibean · 08/01/2008 18:59

Blimey, wonder what she might have watched that made her scared of salad onions? I think she might have confused 'scallywags' and 'scorpions' but she did say they had sharp tails, so I'm guessing the latter

I'm told 4 is the age for nightmares, poor love - but suspect the excitement of term starting, plus getting cold from throwing covers off, plus extremely active and fruitful imagination are to blame. Plus TV, no doubt, which means me

AQ....no idea how I did this, but when I first read your post I read 'men in black tights' why?!? Between dd1 and me....aaargh...

Glad you have some peace from it/them, though.

accessorizemybaublessanta · 08/01/2008 19:40

I think you need some sleep, Elibean |!
