Here you go Eli!

I almost put 'your clothespegs' on the end there. Ds loves clothespegs. Came home from Rainbows the other day and dp had made a deal with ds. He could play with the clothespegs as long as he did it in his playpen and let dp make dinner.

Noooooo

DD3 has another cold (well, she's snotty) and appears to be teething again

Any tips for getting her to drink milk from a beaker, anyone? She will readily drink juice/water sitting up, but still refusing milk. She won't drink milk from a bottle if she's sat up either - about 3 gulps and she point blank refuses.

Sorry haven't been polite and asked about/sympathised with everyone - just turfed DH off the laptop at 10.15 and only got 45 mins on it myself

jabberwocky · 31/12/2007 01:50

Thanks for the sympathy everyone Still coughing like crazy and I'm going to have to start pelvic floor exercises again apparently The boys are much improved and dh has gotten some better which is all good.

bp, meant to say the other day I think you were doing a fine job with the home remedies for the conjunctivitis. Sometimes that;s all it takes.

sorry to hear you've joined the snot brigade, margo.

AQ, your first night away reminded me of something my nephew and his wife said at Christmas. They have a good friend getting married next summer when their dc will be about 6 weeks old. So they say to me "Oh, well, the grandparent's have offered to sit for the weekend." Then they clearly thought I was insane when I told them I hadn't left either of my babies overnight until they were at least 8 months old. They are soo naive yet....

accessorizemybaublessanta · 31/12/2007 12:01

No ideas about milk from a beaker, sorry - I think persistence in most things can win through with children though (e.g. broccoli served up at every meal!)
Jabber glad things are a little better.
I left ds1 at 5 months, my dp & mum insisted as I was so depressed but I didn't like it until he was over 1 really. the pull's too much. But no-one can tell you that whilst you're pg of course!
I'm feeling very ambiguous about a 3rd child. I know I ought to be trying from now if we want one as I will be 39 by the time I have one (given it took a while with both ds's). We've not been very safe several months running but I keep getting my af. I feel funny about saying 'that's it, enough', no more pregnancies, never have the chance to give birth again (painful as it was!) no newborn baby again. I'm really happy with the family I have, I love it with 2 boys, the age gap is great, I'm feeling quite good. How do I accept it's fine as it is?

FunkyGlassSlipper · 31/12/2007 20:30

My DDs both went straight from breast to cup so cant advise I'm afraid. They had a cup or nothing so got used to it.

Happy New Year to everyone

TheOlihantheIvy · 31/12/2007 20:35

Don't know AQ. That's exactly my feelings about a fourth. Sometimes I am absolutely desparate to have another, at other times I look at my 3, think how much another baby will change things and decide I'm happy as we are. It's so hard. I just know whether I do or not.

Had a lovely Christmas, both boys birthdays' are over (Phew! Even 6 4yo's are too much for me - they are so loud) so only have dh's to think about now.

Sorry so many of you have lurgies still. Touch wood we're bug free, apart from the inevitable snotty noses but chicken pox is doing the rounds again so I'm waiting for that.

TheOlihantheIvy · 31/12/2007 20:36

Oops, forgot to say Happy New Year.

Glad I'm not the only one sat at home!

babypowder · 31/12/2007 21:02

I'm sat at home, too, facing the inevitable Hootenanny (I really hate Jools Holland)

It's been a mad few days with poorly LOs and DSCs over and everything. I'm really looking forward to a lie in tomorrow. I've got all the food prepped for tomorrow (including a rather scrummy trifle in the fridge ) and I'm up to date with washing, so I intend to veg for a few hours.

Thanks for the support, Jabber. I love the way some health care professionals sneer at home remedies! Sorry to hear you're still not right (squeeeeeeeeeze that pelvic floor!).

We all seem a bit snotty, don't we

GodzillasResolutoryBumcheek · 31/12/2007 22:04

We are sat at home too (watching The Life of Brian "He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!").

Er, yes, well...unfortunately i know from experience the 'beaker or nothing' option invariably ends with the 'nothing' option! If she would drink from the bottle sitting up, that would be a start, but she shoves her whole body backwards - very determined young lady!

Oh, and she took 7 steps today [beam]

I offer my own (fairly snotty and quite headachey) sympathies to all the cold ridden/other ill mums/babies out there (i am too migrainey to see who i am sympathizing with though )

SantaF · 31/12/2007 22:11

Happy (early) new year everyone. Always a night in for me as we like to bring in the New Year Day with something, this year we have a walk planned and lunch with family, last year I think I only managed a walk to the local park and back!
We have big beaming smiles atm , We went to the Peak District yesterday and went for a walk up Jacob's ladder and along the top of Kinder Plateau, we could hardly see something but it was glorious to be out, I have been promised we can do that far more now we have moved

babypowder · 01/01/2008 00:26

Happy New Year, everyone! Watched the London fireworks on telly - fantastic.

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 01/01/2008 12:51

Happy New Year - According to my DH the london fireworks are better in the comfort of your own home than there itself.

babypowder · 01/01/2008 13:06

We've just come back from a very wet and windy walk on the beach. I love it when its like that as we have the beach all to ourselves! DD2 gor a very red nose in the rucksack, bless her

babypowder · 01/01/2008 20:59

I do believe that I have it in my power to kill any thread on MN!

I'm really ratty tonight. If I didn't have the Mirena I would swear I was premenstrual. You know, one of those moods where it feels like you've done nothing but look after people for days without respite. Bleurgh

Still, I love January. A whole bright shiny New Year to look forward to

FunkyGlassSlipper · 01/01/2008 21:20

Olihan - saw your thread about breastfeeding. Don't stop if you arent ready. No-one's business but yours. And I know what you mean about 'last child' feelings. DH is adamant no more and I agree 'in the main'.

Well done BabyZilla - 7 steps. Yay! DD2 cant be bothered at all. And to think I was worried she'd be an early walker whhen she stood by herself so early DD1 was walking by now.

BP - I kill threads quite often. And I have a very premenstrual night yesterday. I am starting the pill on day 1 of next period in the hope that it will sort my moods and reduce bleeding.

TheOlihantheIvy · 01/01/2008 21:37

Cheers FGS. Am very knackered and hormonal and a bit fragile at the moment (just too many things to do in December after 7m of dh working away, I think) and their comments were the last thing I was able to deal with. Hope the pill sorts you out.

Hooray for January and new beginnings!

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 01/01/2008 21:51

I've booked to have a Mirena fitted in February. Oli - have you got the Mirena? I've read that it can reduce or even stop bleeding.

TheOlihantheIvy · 01/01/2008 21:57

No, I've just got the ordinary copper one. I've never got on with hormonal contraception so chickened out of the Mirena.

Everyone else who's still bfing here has got their periods back, haven't they?

lucy5 · 01/01/2008 22:28

Hello and Happy new year to all! Oli I bf dd for 17 months when she just stopped over night. Ds still has a nibble at night but it's more comfort than anything else. My period came back at 8 weks with both kids, one exclusively bf and the other mixed. Will go and find your thread and jump on anyone who is being horrible to my new neighbour

TheOlihantheIvy · 01/01/2008 22:32

Lucy, it's the gp and hv being horrid and telling me I ought to stop now ds2 is one . But don't let that put you off moving here, I'll have had them fired by the time you get here . Seriously though, if you want to know about this area (which is FAB, btw) I'll chat about it on the FB group with you.

lucy5 · 01/01/2008 22:36

Just read your thread, sorry jumped to the wrong conclusions. Ignore them, most hvs that I have met have never even had children!

babypowder · 01/01/2008 23:05

(Margo, I was told by my specialist that I need not worry about menstrual bleeding until around 2012 once the Mirena was properly fitted. Fantastic )

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 01/01/2008 23:14

Okay BP, I'll note that in my diary along with the UK olympics 2012 eh?!

Oli - I had 1st periods 9 months after both births, and I fed dd1 exc for 5 months and dd2 mix fed for almost 11 months.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 02/01/2008 08:57

Oli - I had periods about 8.5 and 9 months with my DDs. Stopped b/f at 8 months with DD1 and 10.5 months with DD2. Btw, DD2 stopped all by herself. She lay down with me one morning and sucked her thumb instead of me. Nothing I could do could get her to fed. She also patted me for 20 mins as if to say "it's ok". it made it very easy for me and convinced me that the child knows when it is right for them.

I am finding that DD is enjoying her (cow's) milk much more now and I've had to introduce afternoon milk (she was on just am/pm) as she was sooo hungry. Not helped by Christmas and the fact that she seems able to say chocolate - so sweet it comes out as "chucklit"

Indith · 02/01/2008 10:41

Hello all!

I sm in my house, with ds and nobody else! The last guest left today and there are no more (except my mum who is coming to look after ds when not in creche before term starts) until the 18th.

Has been wonderful though.

Ds is still stuffing his face with all food in sight and is getting steadily more mobile. He got a toddle truck for Christmas and is so proud of it, can't stand unaided yet but can't half get up to a good speed with the truck! Still can't do corners though so I have to turn him every few seconds

He hasn't yet worked out how to get back onto the floor from standing without yelling for someone to help him which is very entertaining now that he can get between bits of furniture (very carefully as long as he can hold on with one hand at all times) as when I go to him he starts to cling onto my leg and is generally getting very into clinging to my legs when he wants something. Endearing at the moment

Ds seems to be self weaning at an alarming rate. He only has a feed in the afternoon now and onm Christmas day didn't ask for any at all though had a good feed when I offered at bedtime. Just doesn't seem quite right for him to not feed at all now but I suppose he is the boss. I suppose I should add some cows milk for his calcium intake but am rather liking the lack of a bedtime drink from a night time wee point of view!

I hope all the sinuses and colds are improving

OP posts:
babypowder · 02/01/2008 11:37

I'm quite of all the babies that are self-weaning. I don't know if it's because of all the bugs she's had or because I've been around for a fortnight, but DD2 just wants to BF all the time. And she still uses my like a dummy in the night.

(Or rather, I still allow her to use me as a dummy in the night so that I can grab some sleep )

It feels funny, now that the Christmas season is over. I can't think of a single thing to make for tea!
