Here you go Eli!

I almost put 'your clothespegs' on the end there. Ds loves clothespegs. Came home from Rainbows the other day and dp had made a deal with ds. He could play with the clothespegs as long as he did it in his playpen and let dp make dinner.

I'll swap you for ds2, Indith. He's taking clinginess to a whole new level. Today he has screamed and sobbed unless he's being held. He wouldn't even go in his highchair to eat his lunch or dinner. BLW spag bol is not fun when the B is on your lap! I just don't know how to deal with it. He just won't be distracted if I try and put him down. Normally ds1 and dd are great distractions but even they don't have any interest for him at the moment. I eat with him on my lap, I pee with him on my lap, I cook with him on my hip, I do the hoovering with him on my hip. It's driving me BATTY! Tell me it will end soon, PLEASE.

Could it be teething, do you think? He's cut the bottom too and the four at the top are sort of visible in his gum but they don't appear to be cutting through or even getting closer to cutting through.

But then, he's off his food and has been for quite a few days now. All he will eat is Shreddies and fromage frais. Everything else just gets thrown on the floor. Spag Bol tonight was the first dinner he's eaten in about a fortnight.

I'm not really selling this swapping idea to you, am I Indith?

FrostyGlassSlipper · 26/11/2007 18:05

Sometimes it can be down to teething or feeling unwell, but sometimes the little baby is just all sensitive. Seperation anxiety can hit any time I think but is most common around a year. DD1 had it from 6-18 months and it was very hard - made worse by the fact that she would cling to me all day and then drop me in favour of Daddy the moment he was around.

Hopefully it will be shortlived.

Indith · 26/11/2007 18:13

Deal, baby wearing I can do! Also have plenty of experience of feeding a baby on my hip. Sometimes the only way ds will eat is on my hip while walking around the house. Try cleaning up after that!

DS is in bed, chuntering but in bed. He was in total meltdown mode so we went for an early night. Food consumed today: several moon biscuits, a few mouthfuls of yoghurt, 6 organix crunchy carrot sticks and a gingerbread man.

Please let this round of teething not last too long.

No period yet, 4 days til dp gets home.

Elibean · 26/11/2007 18:26

Indith, maybe ds has sussed that something is up and his all-to-myself mummy is under threat?

Pee, pee, please pee on sticks you two!

BP, at your dh...

dd2 has four teeth and looks very cute, and very funny.

accessorizewithbabysick · 26/11/2007 21:58

Clinginess sounds like nightmare, your backs must be sooo sore! I can barely carry ds2 sometimes, he's a big lug.
Not due till the 2nd, sorry guys. I wouldnt trust those early tests anyway. No sign of either really, I'm too knackered to think about it much.

babypowder · 26/11/2007 22:31

I've just weighed DD2 out of interest - and as my back is so sore! - and she weighs 26.5lbs. Maybe she'll lose some of it if she starts to walk? She doesn't look fat, just gently rounded in a baby kind of way, but she's half a stone heavier than her sister at the same age. Ridiculous.

jabberwocky · 26/11/2007 22:45

eli, so sorry to hear about your dad. There's quite a bit to choose from now, re: prostate cancer treatment so if he does have to address the issue be prepared for discussing different avenues with him.

AQ and Indith better you than me, though ds2 is supposed to be the absolute last addition to our family.

And, misery loves company at least, on the clingy baby front. Have been wondering why ds2 seemed to be the only one. I keep forgetting he is almost a month older than some of the babies on this thread. He's only 20 pounds (goodness at the 26.5 bp!!) but it still does my back in by the end of the day. Today I just sat and played with him for a while as I wasn't going to get anything done anyway.

Calmriver · 26/11/2007 23:29

Hi All, Amberli had a great little birthday and tucked into a teletubbies cake I made...can someone reming me again how to post pics...cant remember,

Thanks all...tomorrow we're off to London aquarium, so Ive got to go and get a little bit of sleep.

Sorry to hear that news Eli, hope he is okay.

Will do some more catching up with everyone when I get a minute to myself...xx[]xx

FrostyGlassSlipper · 27/11/2007 07:46

DD was 19lb 8oz so she a tiddler

Indith · 27/11/2007 17:17

My god this is teething like there has never been before. The poor boy just screams endlessly. And I meam screams.

He has finally screamed himself to sleep on me with the same track on repeat as I found earlier that it is the god of all music tracks and seems to flick a switch in ds and calm him.

I think when he wakes it will be bed with as mych medised as it is possible to give a small boy.

OP posts:
Elibean · 27/11/2007 19:06

Indith, its miserable when they're teething like that, hope the Medised works. Are you sure its teething and not ears? Though Medised will help with either, of course. Do tell what the track is, could do with one of those up my sleeve...

dd2 was just over 8kg last time I had her checked, which was 2 weeks ago. No idea what it is in pounds, but am supposed to take her for next weight check tomorrow - they're keeping a close eye: totally skewed chart, IMO, as she's had the D&V bug

I think she's meant to be long and lean anyway

Thanks for ongoing support re Dad, still have butterflies in my stomach on and off (and he's gone into hiding, behind my DSM, IYKWIM, which is understandable but doesn't help) but thats mostly because I'm waiting on Thursday's staging scans.

Meantime, the dds are being glorious and not too viral and have actually started playing together, shrieking with laughter in the bath

Indith · 27/11/2007 19:46

Aww bathtime in the Eli household sounds very cute.

Def teeth if the shoving melon in his mouth and rubbing it against his gum is anything to go by!

Track is Cara Dillon, Never in a million years from After the Morning.

It is still going round my head, he slept for a long time and I didn't dare switch it off!

I just reheated some bol sauce from the freezer and it tasted most odd indeed. Of course I only noticed this after putting it over my spaghetti and shovelling it in my mouth. Now having daft food poisening-what if I am pg thoughts.

Have yet to think of substitute dinner. Really wanted spaghetti.

May go sort out books for lectures tomorrow, put the nappy wash on and hope inspiration hits.

OP posts:
Elibean · 27/11/2007 20:03

How about spaghetti with loads of butter and cheese?

Melon and gums certainly sounds like teething, poor mite

Thanks for musical tip, will try next time teeth threaten sleep. dd woke FOUR times last night, but think it was more stomach ache from overeating (catch-up mode) and then hunger. Though she's rubbing her face, gums and nose all day too

Have mediseded her tonight too, on basis of flu jab today/non stop snot/teeth and last night's performance

Indith · 27/11/2007 20:31

Four times! Ouch!

Ds is just very unsettled, he wimpers lots but seems to manage to stay asleep/resettle himself until around 5 but after that we are screwed. I have been far too used to him waking for the day at 8! This morning he had had a long morning nap and we had done the supermarket shop (as in going there and coming back, not the online variety) before 10am!

Now settling down with new plate of spaghetti with cheese and Heston on the box.

And an article to read for tomorrow, but I spotted the name of my favorite linguist so shouldn't be too much of a hardship.

OP posts:
accessorizewithbabysick · 27/11/2007 21:33

Don't know how either of you stay sane (cheese?). LOL at elibean's dd's stomach hurting from overeating, I think that happens a lot here. I changed ds2's (completely disgusting) nappy after he'd had tea and then mum couldn't do his trousers up again lucky for the adjustable waist, he would be naked but for H&M.
Playing the bath lovely, Elibean, are you dreaming of 2 now Indith so you can give ds a bath partner in crime? DS2 splashes far more than his elder brother! Thinking maybe a bath toy to share for christmas, but FAR too much bought already. Wheelybug arrived today, it's sooo lovely, I want him to unwrap it now! What hits did dd2 get for her birthday, Eli?
BTW, Indith, I got those navy C4Cloth trousers and they're gorgeous! Very cute on. And so justifiable if I'm having another (have just bought 2 nappies as well inc a jaguar berry plush can't wait!). Sorry, eli, very boring nappy chat.

Indith · 27/11/2007 21:36

See now you have to have another!

I just got a couple more minki huggles for the night (dp asked for them) and one is a beautiful deep red. Ds is getting cut4cloth trousers for Christmas, can't wait to put them on him they are so beautiful, I love the navy ones with the soft, soft fleecyness inside.

OP posts:
Indith · 27/11/2007 21:37

Bugger ds is crying. Fat lot of good that medised did then! And I'ved moved him up to a full 5ml dose!

Ho hum how long can I sit and type inane babble in the hopes that he will go back to sleep?

OP posts:
Elibean · 27/11/2007 23:15

you two, go pee on sticks, pleeeeeeeese

AQ, dd got a sort of play bus thingy, which is an activity centre. Its wooden, and has all sorts of things like tools, pegs, shape sorter, and its pushable (if she ever learns to walk) too. The best thing about it is that dd1 will sit and play on one side while dd2 sits and plays on the other - huge improvement on dd1 grabbing toys off dd2 or vice versa. Plus, it was on sale

Indith, good luck - am off to bed while our medised is still working

jabberwocky · 28/11/2007 02:35

I wondered if anyone else was having that problem. Seems I spend half my time trying to convince ds1 to share baby toys with ds2 Of course, they mostly were ds1's toys to begin with but still...

accessorizewithbabysick · 28/11/2007 10:00

How was the night, Eli and Indith?
Haven't got any minki huggles but need to look at nighttime as everything's been leaking lately despite loads of boosters.
Bus thing sounds good, anything that they'll both play with is excellent! musical instruments the best in this household, particularly things like tambourines which both can easily use. I find it's getting a little better with the sharing although ds2 is quite unbelievably persistent sometimes even though he's being told no by ds1 and me!

Gloria42 · 28/11/2007 11:14

Morning! Does anyone want to join my Snot-fest? Poor DS is loaded with the worst, snotty cold he has ever had. No temperature thank goodness, just a constantly running nose and bad cough
I'm at work today and DS is with DP. Gorgeous man let me put ear plugs in last night to try and get a couple of hours sleep. Poor DS is crying out in his sleep, coughing and sneezing, and this was blasting out of the monitor right next to my ear! Still knackered today, takes me back to the first few days - and NOT in a good way !

Indith · 28/11/2007 12:36

We have snot too Gloria, which does not help! There has been a cough/temp/snot thing going round creche and I think we have it now. On the principal that half the kids have had it anyway ds is in creche despite sounding like he has TB.

Night not actually bad. Gave more medised at 10 as it had been 4 hours then he slept til 5.15, was dosed again and slept til I woke him at 8! I woke up a lot though as he was coughing and whimpering in his sleep.

Huggles are great AQ, with an airflow for the night. The only thing is to make sure you turn the fleece round the legs in as otherwise you can get a bit of run off if you have a side sleeper but even feeding a couple of times overnight he doesn't manage to soak it. Plus it is a really roomy nappy so loads of space for a booster inside without affecting fit when they get bigger and do big boy wees

Eli I am going to ignore you until Saturday

OP posts:
Gloria42 · 28/11/2007 12:59

I didn't think I would be the only person in this boat!
Is it normal for babies to have diorhea (sp!!) at the same time as all the cold symptoms? (Yes, another silly first time mum question!).
I guess with the Medised and germs flying about inside him it isn't surprising...

Olihan · 28/11/2007 14:48

SATURDAY, Indith? For goodness sake, don't you realise some of us are waiting for this? DP doesn't really need to be there does he?

Rubbish sleep in this house too for the last few nights too. Dd is also teething (those evil big back molars) so between them they have me in and out of bed like a yo yo. Monday night was a record breaker for the Olihan household as I didn't get more than 10 minutes at a stretch until 4am, then ds2 got up for the day at 5:50. Thank goodness ds1 is at preschool all day on a Monday so I only had the other two to contend with. It wasn't a fun day, I can tell you!

Eli, hope tomorrow brings good news.

Mags, if you're about, how is dh?

Olihan · 28/11/2007 14:49

Sorry, Gloria, forgot to answer your question - yes, it is normal, I think all the snot that they swallow (bleurgh) makes their poo go a bit yucky.
