mrs D - all good reasons. we want to move for better quality of life too but for us that means not only space but also more sunshine and sea or lakes. we have a big garden but we hardly used it all this summer because it was just raining. maybe Dh will just need a while to get used to the idea?

anonmum · 18/11/2004 13:43

dreams -to move to a quieter place definitely leave the job persuade dh. If you do it I would be so jealous I have wanted to leave london for about 9 years and still have not persuaded either DS no1 or DH

MrsDoolittle · 18/11/2004 13:52

That's the thing. Dh says lets' wait a few years til we are better off. But won't it be harder then?

anonmum · 18/11/2004 13:54

my dh always says it is never the right time

MrsDoolittle · 18/11/2004 13:55

That's what I'm afraid of. Talk about mountain and Mohammed

spots · 18/11/2004 14:24

Mrs D - If you wanted to be within reach of the city (I'd warn that parts of Fife can seem a little bit backwaterish and not in a romantic way either) there'd be advantages in NOT waiting a couple of years because by then prices might have gone up. But maybe you're not fussed about the city. We were so lucky with our house but I don't think we could afford it now because more people have noticed that it's possible to commute from here.

I am not helping am I? Do CAT me if you want specifics. I do think this is a fantastic place to live but that is based on very specific experience!

dot1 · 18/11/2004 14:53

Just to confuse matters.... dp and I wanted for years and years to leave London and come up to Manchester - it's our home, people are friendlier, family here etc...

A year later and we both really miss London!! Miss the pace of life, tubes, mix of people, just the look of the houses and architecture.... And we honestly never thought we would. I think if we had pots of money and no family (parent) ties, we'd probably move back..!

MrsDoolittle · 18/11/2004 15:10

I could miss Oxford, I think. Is it true that some Scottish people don't like English people?

Chuffed · 18/11/2004 15:42

anonmum where in London are you? We are back from New York now with a sicky dd so probably no nursery tomorrow by the looks of it.
No advice on the move to Scotland MrsD. dh's cousins life on the waterfront at Aberdour and it was just lovely there but the house prices are going up really quickly.
Could you both apply for jobs etc and when you have something solid it might make the decision easier.

LucyJones · 18/11/2004 15:47

Hi everyone. Finally got round to going to baby clinic yesterday and ds is 20 and a half pounds!! He loves eating crusts from his own hand and seems very pleased with himself.

Fennel · 18/11/2004 15:57

dot - IKWYM about the ugly uninspiring manchester architecture. it gets to me. if I have to live in a big city would prefer something more scenic.

i've waited to move til we finished having children cos the thought of new jobs and new baby seemed a bit overwhelming - it takes a while to get the freedom I have in my job now. so for us the next couple of years would be a good time to move. we are gearing up for it.

anonmum · 18/11/2004 16:32

To Chuffed
I am in sutton - south London and have been here for 8 years but I really miss my family but DS no 2 is settled in school, DH has a goodish job

hewlettsdaughter · 18/11/2004 17:30

MrsD, I'd move before dd is school age.
spots - I've been weaning dd for maybe a month now. She has 3 meals a day but each meal is only a cube of puree or a bit of finger food, and when I feed her (can't speak for the childminder!), lots of it ends up on her/me or the floor! Will email you later to expound on the working/childminding thing.
Chuffed - meant to say - I was impressed you logged in from NY! Did you have a good time?

Metrobaby · 18/11/2004 19:47

hi anonmum - i live very near you - in the croydon area. I've lived there for years. DH is originally from Manchester but has obv moved here. A move to Scotland MrsD! A tough choice but I would agree with HD about moving before your dd is school age.

Dh often talks about moving back up North as his family are there, and his company also has an office up there. I must admit i am a bit reluctant to as my friends and family are all based here. I think I would also miss London too.

I've been busy of late as usual. I'm looking at schools for dd as she is due to start next year. It's very difficult to choose.

Both dd and ds have streaming colds. ds has a chesty cough and is a bit wheezy. I'm keeping an eye on it as asthma runs in the family so I am hoping he won't develop it He also has two teeth now, rolls everywhere and sits up for ages now. No signs of crawling yet though - I think he is happy with rolling around to get what he wants.

Chuffed · 18/11/2004 19:49

yes good time had but wished that I had taken the pushchair and not the back carrier. It was good but my shopping suffered a little as I just couldn't be bothered taking it on and off and on and off.
Oh and I have just read the latest Trinny and Susannah book and was trying to shop by my rules which turned out to be especially difficult but am starting to see the difference in what I look like in the right colours etc.
Love New York. HD I was on dh's computer at his work before one of the others drove me and dd to the mall to spend yesterday, so it wasn't like I went to an internet cafe or anything.

anonmum · 18/11/2004 20:56

definitely move before school age - my ds no.1 will not entertain leaving his friends etc. - he is 9 now.

Can I ask everyone on the list to do me a favour - if it is allowed would you tell me where you are, number of DS and DD etc - I am sure you have done this before but I would really appreciate it - it would possibly help me follow the converstaion.

Finally can I just ask does anyone else either talk to themselves or their babies during the day and expect an answer - am I going bonkers or should I get out more.

To chuffed
I know croydon quite well as I work there but am off till next year and then will only be working part time - hopefully!

Chuffed · 18/11/2004 21:08

anonmum - we have just dd born on (29 March) but am sitting in here as you guys are great and so many of us went through the pregnancy together.

We live near Paddington in London.

TracyK · 18/11/2004 21:53

can I join you guys. ds was born in March but March thread has died (I see you've already decamped chuffed)
ds going through major teething just now 2 on bottom and 4 on top - but apart from a few waking in the nights - he hasn't been too bad.(touch wood so far).
I am from Scotland originally and live outside Bedford now.
After spending 4 years on the South COast - I'd love to get dh to give up his job and move back to be near the sea.

MrsDoolittle · 19/11/2004 09:49

Hello TracyK. Hey Chuffed I see you have deposited on the city meetup. I think I will too but I shan't take dd - not this time.
I am just amazed by how dd is growing. Suddenly now she is sitting up she seems so grown up. She is eating all the toddler meals with the other children at nursery now, cheesey sandwiches last night, all kinds of finger food. I also love to see dh with her now, he can't wait to get her up in the morning. It really has shown me another side to him

KristinaM · 19/11/2004 11:41

Hi everyone. We are recovering now from all the bugs and sicky stuff. Baby is still only taking a little solids and mostly just wants BM.

Anonmum - we have 5 kids, but only 2 still at home full time! DS is 6 months old, born early May ( but due mid April, just like his mum - always late )

Chuffed · 19/11/2004 12:20

Hey TracyK
MrsD I'm not taking dd as I'll be taking a long lunch from work so she'll be at nursery. Great about dd eating the toddler meals, we're now pretty much on milk only, dd just won't have anything else, so we're going backwards now hopefully not for too long.
She's a bit more herself today although her nose is streaming. better go wipe...

Metrobaby · 19/11/2004 12:55

Anonmum I have a dd who is 4 and ds who is an April baby.

I haven't decided whether to bring ds or not along to the Xmas lunch. It will depend if I can persuade my Mum to babysit for me that day.

ds was a nightmare last night. He kept waking up every 90 mins and then taking ages to go back to sleep. Arggh. He is suffering still with his cold, and today has hardly eaten anything or drunk much milk. I know its to be expected with a cold but I still can't help worrying. He's a bit on the skinny side as it is. At this rate I'll have the HV police on my back !

MrsDoolittle · 19/11/2004 15:55

Hey Ladies, have a squiz . I'm so IT illiterate it's taken me ages.

Chuffed · 19/11/2004 16:02

Awesome MrsD. She has such huge eyes.
We need to get organised and put some of J's pictures up on our website.
Metrobaby dd has barely been eating anything either how long has it carried on for you? It's really worrying she cries and eats her hands as though she is hungry but won't take anything.

lunavix · 19/11/2004 16:37

MrsD - she's gorgeous!!!!!
