dd3 isn't crawling but is trying to - keeps diving onto her nose. house is already toddlerproof anyway apart from marbles hiding everywhere.

does anyone else's baby smell like an old compost heap after eating veg purees? I should be pleased dd3 is a keen eater of veg but it makes her smell a bit horrible at the moment.

hewlettsdaughter · 11/11/2004 20:59

Not sure my dd is eating enough veg for that result Fennel
YG, dd had her hearing test at only a few days old, though ds had one of the ones they can do at about 6 months 5 years ago. The new tests use a machine which sends clicky noises down the baby's ear - if clicky noises come back, that shows their hearing is ok (that's how I understood it anyway).
Hope work is going ok for all those who are working. I have a cold at the mo (and we're still treating for thrush), so finding it all quite hard at the mo...

handlemecarefully · 11/11/2004 23:43

Fennel,
ds has quite inoffensive poo, but his older sister - well it could strip paint.

dolbear · 12/11/2004 08:23

do you know I can not remeber if ds had a hearing test or not , was in hopital after c and don't remeber all that much tbh , lots of doc came round and poked ds , so maybe , he had low blood sugar level so they kept poking and pricking him , poor sod

anonmum · 13/11/2004 21:01

Hope you don't mind me joining - I had a baby boy in April 2004, have been lurking for a while but am new to postings - just wanted to ask some advice- when I started weaning he would eat anything and everything happily -now he regularly screams every mealtime because I can't shovel the food in his mouth fast enough any advice - has anyone else had this problem

anonmum · 13/11/2004 21:02

Oh yes - I also wanted to say hello everyone - I am new to this

handlemecarefully · 13/11/2004 21:12

Hi anonmum,

ds often screams over his evening meal (but not his breakfast or lunch) - I put this down to tiredness (he has his dinner at around 17.30 and goes to bed about 18.30). Could this be the same for your baby - i.e. does the screaming happen more usually when he is a bit tired?

anonmum · 13/11/2004 21:19

To Handlemecarefully
no it does not seem anything to do with tiredness he just screams in between mouthfuls - even if his mouth is full of stuff - he seems to want me to put more in it - which I won't do because I worry about him choking - because we have been moving onto to more lumpy goo - but he gets so fraught I end up picking him out of his highchair and feeding him with breastmilk

anonmum · 13/11/2004 21:22

To handlemecarefully
do you all know each other on this thread - have you been taling since pregnancy.

handlemecarefully · 13/11/2004 21:42

Anonmum,

I'm not sure then... maybe give him snacks between meals like breadsticks and ricecakes so that he is not so famished when it comes to meal time?

Yep, most of us have been chatting since pregnancy - but don't let that put you off. We are not cliquey

hunkermunker · 13/11/2004 21:46

That's true, anonmum - they're lovely I only really found this site when DS was about six months old and the April mums are very friendly (as is the site in general IME!).

Keep meaning to post on this thread too, but keep getting sidetracked by all manner of other topics!

Hope all the April babes are doing well. Will try to post here more often!

Hi all (welcome anonmum!). DD is going a bundle on fingers of toast, rice cakes and petit filous at the moment. I try not to feed petit filous to her too often as I think they're probably quite sugary - but she does like them . I send her to the childminder with cubes of fruit and veg and water (formula too but she still doesn't take much of that).
It was my birthday yesterday and we all went out to a tapas bar for tea - it was lovely. DD was fine, ds tried more of the dishes than I thought he would - all in all it was a great trip.
Hope you are all ok.

KristinaM · 14/11/2004 20:00

Hi all. Welcome anonmum.
Sorry have not been posting, have joined the sicky families club. Baby has had an ear infection and I had REAL problems getting antibiotics into him.Just spat them out and then threw up the small amount I had forced him to swallow
Then DD2 and i both got a vomiting bug so were up all night. now feel exhausted
YG - did you get my photos? Am feeling very left out of April babies

anonmum · 14/11/2004 20:26

To HMC - thanks for the advice will try that tomorrow

Plus thank you for the welcome my boy was born 25 april and I don't know any other mothers with babies so it will be really nice to be able to communicate and get some advice

lunavix · 14/11/2004 20:47

Anonmum - hi! I only joined about a month ago (DS was born april 15) and the advice and giggles has been great!

DS had problems feeding when he was born, and as a consequence has NO patience waiting for food, he screams between every mouthful too. I offer him juice now on the occassions he gets hysterical, and then when he's calmed down, start with the food again.

handlemecarefully · 14/11/2004 22:02

KristinaM - you sound like you've been through the mill. Aren't vomiting bugs the pits! - and ear infections aren't too clever either. Did babe scream constantly with it? (my two did when they both previously suffered ear infections). Here's to good health to you for the next few weeks at least.

Happy Birthday Hdaughter - sounds like you had a good day.....

Ds has cut his first tooth today. I don't know why but I am stupidly pleased and been telling him he is a clever boy !!! - what's that about ???, its only a biological process. I think I am excited for him though because he has been getting teething induced nappy rash for ages now without much result, so its good that something has finally materialised....(and also I am so loved up about ds that if he farts I practically applaud)

To lunavix -thanks for the advice - am going to try HMC advice to feed him between meals tomorrow then I will try juice - currently i try to give him water between mouthful to stop the screaming

dot1 · 15/11/2004 09:09

Hi anonmum - we've got opposite problem really, which is ironic considering how big ds is and how much he eventually puts away - he kind of cries and won't open his mouth, but I don't think he's full! I think he's starting to get a taste for certain meals (eg he LOVES cauliflower cheese and can't get enough of it) but isn't so keen on other stuff, so is starting to object! Maybe your baby's starting to show preferences for certain meals?? You could try giving him a rusk or rice cake to hold while you're feeding him, so he's got something to shove into his mouth if he's desperate?! I do this with ds - give him a rusk while I'm preparing his food sometimes...

Fennel - would love to meet up! Sorry, have been a bit disorganised recently with all our lot going through coughscoldsstomach bugs - but we're nearly all better - just ds2 with his permanent hacking cough... I'm almost wanting to take him to the GP again, but we're going to wait another couple of weeks. Meanwhile his room's like a mini sauna with wet towels and bowls of water everywhere...

Fennel again - ds really smells! But not just his poos - he's got a v. distinctive body smell - not horrible but not really pleasant either! And he sweats a lot, which concerns me on and off as I've never known any other babies to sweat - any other April Mums with sweaty smelly babies (I love him really..!!)

dolbear · 15/11/2004 16:03

welcome anonmum !
as a newby have found this threan invaluable and sane makeing , is this yr 1st ?
ds does not scream , rather more yells between mouthfuls , so I just shovel in the open mouth and u get a hmmm ( as in i should think so too ) i just ignore it , but dm , gets right stroppy with him is v funny !!

crawling is the devils work I have decided , no more crawling, walking or movement in general is allowed , ever ha ha

What do u do ablout xmas trees , this is a BIG issue in my hse , what am I going 2 do
happy b-day , glad 2 hear was a good 1 , hope mine is later on in the month

anonmum · 15/11/2004 21:19

This is my first kind of online communication with people - so I am a newbie and hope I don't upset anyone. But he is my second child my first one is 9 years old so I am kind of starting this baby thing again -plus this one is completely different from my first one - behaviour, looks, personality everything. The first one was very placid , slept through the night, ate quietly and cleanly etc - this one is unstoppable.

MrsDoolittle · 15/11/2004 21:31

MrsDoolittle · 15/11/2004 21:37

Oh dear. I shall post again when I am sober

Tickle · 15/11/2004 22:18

dolbear - xmas trees - no breakables on lower branches and set the thing in some vice-like arrangement to make sure it can't fall over.

But hang some wooden stuff that they can have a go at down low!

Hi and bye all - off to bed!! (sober, unlike some Mrs D ;))
