HD - is it thrush? sympathies? will it make you give up the BF? it probably would me. have not had it myself, maybe it's not as bad as mastitis?

handlemecarefully · 05/11/2004 20:23

Thanks HD for the good wishes next week - I am going back Monday to Wednesday. Will miss ds, but will be quite relieved to see a bit less of 2 year old dd because she is trantrum Queen extraordinaire at the moment....(its very wearing). I hope the thrush clears up soon - is it itchy as well as painful? I had it with dd and from what I remember it did get better fairly quickly after using the cream that the doctor prescribed.

Awww shucks thanks Fennel re enjoying my post , I felt a wee bit silly about rising to the bait though....but my buttons got pressed.

Hope your girls are better soon, a weekend of coughing and wiping runny noses sounds a bit grim.

Re the marmite - haven't tried it on ds yet, but I am tempted to now just to see the disgusted expression that I predict he will pull. Very impressed by your culinary antics Mrs D with the home made rusks.

hewlettsdaughter · 07/11/2004 12:15

Hello, how is everyone's weekend going?
Fennel - it is thrush that we've got (I diagnosed it myself, from reading mumsnet and other sites and the doc has since confirmed it). We're both on medication now, hopefully it'll clear up soon. Don't want to give up the bf'ing just yet - especially as dd isn't keen on drinking from a bottle or cup! (she can't have had more than an ounce at a time when she was with the childminder last week).
HMC, I think dd is itchy under her nappy. Not sure if the oral thrush bothers her. She has been quite fretful at night recently though - maybe this is why.
Everybody had porridge, smoothie and toast for breakfast this morning - even dd! (well, she had a taste of everything). It's good when they can eat what you're eating isn't it.
MrsD, have you gone already? Hope you have/are having a good time with your parents and in Scotland.
YG - We got the steriliser yesterday (I've emailed you). Thank you thank you thank you!

Morning... Completely exhausted here... Ds is still waking up at 5am, and the picking him up thing is starting to work less and less. Think I might start a thread under sleeping, as I'm not sure controlled crying's going to work at 5am when he's wide awake and ready to start the day...

It's just a phase, it's just a phase (my ever-hopeful mantra!).

Other than that we had a lovely weekend - took ds1 to his first fireworks display and he loved it, and ds2 slept through all the noise every night!

Still being a bit of a coward where lumpy food's concerned, as he's a bit of a drama queen and will choke/cough at the slightest lump...

dolbear · 08/11/2004 09:39

be afraid be very afraid , ds has started to crawl !!!! not sure whether to be proud or frightened !
is feelin much better now and managing to get foof down him , is just like starting to wean agin , only a bit quicker

lunavix · 08/11/2004 10:38

Morning everyone!

Everything's been hectic recently, DP has come down with 'man-flu' so I've been running around all weekend trying to make sure he can't pass it to DS... but he's started sniffling already so it could get worse...

Plus DS is trying desperately to crawl now, he's got the idea of getting up on his knees, not long now I feel...

Does anyone use the summer growbags? I don't know it mines 0.5 or 1 tog, but should I use a blanket too if its 17 degrees? He woke up about 7 or 8 times last night and I'm sure he was cold...

KristinaM - rofl at your story.

Chuffed · 08/11/2004 10:56

lunavix we use a 1 tog grobag and occasionally put a blanket on but our flat is quite warm so don't need to very often.
dot dd has just started waking at 5.30 (well the past 2 nights) so I'm repeating that mantra too.

Had to take dd to the dr this morning as she just hasn't been herself, hardly eaten or drunk anything all weekend, runny nose, puffy eyes. He was good, checked her ears, listened with stethascope, checked her throat and we have baby ibuprofen and saline nasal drops as apparently she has inflamed ears...that would explain the uncontrollable crying yesterday early evening. Dh is at home with her today as we are short staffed at work but I'll be at home with her tomorrow.
Just hoping that she is OK for our trip on Saturday as it will be horrible for her on a plane with sore ears.

handlemecarefully · 10/11/2004 09:07

Helloooooo - where is everyone?

Chuffed - how is dd now? Its so draining when they are ill isn't it? They are so little and vulnerable and obviously suffering. I hate it! Ds was ill yesterday (high temp and irritability) but thank heavens it was a 24 hour thing and he is bouncing around happily now.

Chuffed · 10/11/2004 09:18

dd seems to be feeling a lot better too. We have put her back into nursery today after 2 days at home. It is awful, she isn't really a crier and she would just sit on the floor with tears streaming down her face and I had to carry her everywhere - she hasn't ever been that type of kid.
Glad yours is feeling better too, not a good way to start back at work is it.

handlemecarefully · 10/11/2004 09:24

No not a great way to start back at work - highly embarrassing!

Glad your dd is better now. It really is heartbreaking to see them like that.

dot1 · 10/11/2004 12:03

Hello! Feeling quite bright and breezy today 'cos although ds woke up at 5am (AGAIN), I got him back to sleep until 7.15am - hurrah!!! So I was late to work but didn't care 'cos I'd finally got some sleep!

Tried him on toast which was kind of a success - he liked chewing on it, but I noticed after a while he hadn't done much swallowing/choking (!) and discovered most of it lodged in the roof of his mouth...! But he's on lumpy apple sauce now which he loves. Also cauliflower cheese which is a huge success.

No sign of him crawling yet - just too heavy to move - I think he'll go straight to walking! I put him on our scales the other day - not v. accurate I know - and he came out at about 24lbs... Must take him to HVs - he hasn't been for weeks - are other people still taking their babies regularly?

Chuffed · 10/11/2004 12:23

No visits to the HV here, it is between 2 and 4 on a Wed afo and I'm at work so we might have to resort to home scales too.c

handlemecarefully · 10/11/2004 12:39

Dot1,

Never been to HV for weighing, so no idea what ds weighs (he was weighed very early on when getting HV home visits) - but, I am now sufficiently curious to stick him on the scales at home. May report back tomorrow!

dot1 · 10/11/2004 15:02

I'm quite glad other people don't go to HV aswell - I always feel neglectful about not taking him enough (although I don't think we took ds1 that much either..!).

Fennel · 10/11/2004 19:47

dot1 - have not been to HV since dd about 8 weeks old. but have also weighed dd3 on home scales, she was about 17lb a couple of weeks ago. I think we have an 8 month check so I'll probably go then.

sorry to hear about all the sickly babies still, must be the time of year. dd3 is fine but dd2 has been waking screaming in the night all week, which wakes us all and also the baby. not sure if she's ill, having nightmares, or just tantrumming. but the whole household is extremely tired and grumpy.

hi yorkiegirl, was still dithering about the meet-up but I see it's on Fri 3 Dec which is Dp's work xmas party and I have agreed to go and be bored there.

Do people call each other their real names or their mumsnet names at meet-ups?

dot1 how about a mini-meetup sometime soon?

Chuffed · 10/11/2004 20:56

Just popped dd on the home scales tonight and she was 17.5lb. Hopefully this is accurate as it means she has stayed on the same centile all the way through. She is really long and lanky. We had her in a footless gap one piece today that was 6-12 months and it is just long enough. I think she gets it from her Dad's side (6ft3).

LucyJones · 10/11/2004 20:58

Hi everyone. We haven't been to the health visitor for ages too. It's just such a hassle taking all their clothes off, especially now it's colder. Ds was weighed about 6 weeks ago and was 18lb I think. He's in 9-12 month vests and sleepsuits as his body and legs are long!

YG hugs it is awful all these sick kids left right and centre.
dd is into everything as she is creeping along the furniture, chairs etc as well as crawling so she keeps pulling things down on her head, bless.
Can't turn around for a second that's for sure.
