WO - Yes she is an (un)Civil Servant, but a very specific kind!!

CaptainDippy · 06/11/2007 22:49

Right I am knackered so going to bed .....

Have to leave you all in suspenders, I'm afraid!!

Night, Night.......

PillockOfTheCommunity · 06/11/2007 23:02

TaxMan

CaptainDippy · 06/11/2007 23:10

Nope.

That would be really scary!!

elkiedee · 06/11/2007 23:19

Interesting chat on jobs! One of my online friends is a Conservative Party election agent, very far removed from me politically but she's very witty and entertaining. Another is married to a traffic warden and I think I was one of a very few people who was able to respond to that in a rather different way from what he must have been used to, we had just had a union campaign sticking up for our branch members who worked in those jobs and were being transferred to a private company.

People are just bored at the very idea of what I do, though I did once get cornered at a party by someone who wanted to moan about the difficulties of getting a parking permit from my employer (this whinge had no connection with my job whatsoever!) We draw up documents for property transactions, quite dull but the local paper often features several of our cases as major controversies - historic buildings, phone masts, redevelopment, sometimes it's quite entertaining to see who's getting slagged off.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 06/11/2007 23:19

erm............
Job Centre busybody?

NorthernLurker · 06/11/2007 23:51

I'm not really here either...........Dippy - your mum is the person in the benefits office who says NO or the person in the council tax office who says 'give me all your money in ten equal installments' or a librarian? Am I close?

Are you sure she's not a spy..........just been watching Sppoks

Maveta · 07/11/2007 06:31

morning! horrible night, poor N has a stinking cold. Caught it off his cousin at the weekend, feel annoyed at myself because his cousin napped in Ns cot while they were here and I should have thought to change the sheets afterwards but it just didn´t even occur to me. Learner´s mistakes Although dh made me laugh this morning when I was all feeling sorry for the wee mite and he said ´don´t forget, he´s a boy so it is a man-cold after all´

Well boy is dressed and fed and all ready for the day and I have to leave for work in an hour so going to slink off to start the process..xx

liath · 07/11/2007 07:54

LOL at baby man-cold . Sorry it was a grim night, though maveta.

LOL too at WO being branded the most evil woman in Ireland!! Though that really makes me sad too - in this day and age you'd think that there would be more tolerance and common sense out there....

Think I might join the library today, dd is getting bored of her books and I fancy getting some audio CDs for her too. Plus I am sick of forking out good money for crap books for my book club.....anyone want a copy of the Time Travellers Wife ?

NorthernLurker · 07/11/2007 08:14

I've had a bit of a grim night too. B woke at 12.45 - which was when I was going to bed - which was bad and wrong of me! See its all my fault I feel crap! So fed and got her down by 1.15 and then she woke again at 4.15 - seems impossible for us to have a night now where she doesn't wake twice. Anyway second waking does not generate a feed unless I can't settle her any other way so I took her into bed with me and she went off to sleep, so did I till 5.20ish when she woke and wailed - so I had to feed her and we both went back to sleep by 6. Woken at 7:11 by dd2 and then at 7:35 by alarm - should have got up at 7:15 to have peaceful morning getting ready - but I just couldn't! Ugggggggggggh. Dh was awy which is good or there would be two of us grumping around this morning. On plus side dd1 gave B her breakfast and she ate the lot

oooggs · 07/11/2007 08:42

morning - I think I could guess what you do liath and I hope dh passed his exams - it is horrible waiting for results - my dh is waiting for assignments results and has a final exam in January for his degree thingy.

dippy - I'm a civil servant

mammyjo · 07/11/2007 09:37

Morning all. Struggling to catch up after being around so little! Hope everyone is ok. F has finally turned a corner and is getting better. Still eating and drinking very little, but generally much happier, and her red bum is not quite as red as it was!

CaptainDippy · 07/11/2007 10:25

Sorry for grim nights Hope N gets over his "Man Baby Cold" soon, Maveta hon. xx

Ooooooh, you are getting closer and closer with my mum's job ......

Mmmmmmm, shall I tell you!!!?

Definitely have to put something about "Man Baby colds" and my mum being either a spy or Gordon Brown in the next thread title!!

CaptainDippy · 07/11/2007 10:26

Glad dear little F is doing better, MJ - What did you slap on her poor sore bum in the end??

CaptainDippy · 07/11/2007 11:17

Oooooh, meant to say - YES PLEASE to the copy of The time Travellers Wife, Liath - It is our next Book Group Book - so extra copies always come in very handy - Thank you! captain_dippy "at" yahoo "dot" co "dot uk

oooggs · 07/11/2007 11:18

come on dippy which part of the civil service????????

elkiedee · 07/11/2007 14:17

liath, I've always loved libraries and little D already has his very own library card, actually he has two because we have one for the book and toy bus as well. We read him a story and it means we can get lots of new different things to read him until he gets to the point when he wants the same really dull book read to him each night! I confess that I've taken the chance to put some audio from CD on to our Ipods as well (we normally use them with speakers).

CD, please put us out our misery.

PMSL at Maveta's husband, that explains a lot. I shall tell myself every time D has a cold that it's a man-cold.

I saw D's possible childminder yesterday, I really liked her and her oldest daughter who has been approved as her assistant. I'm still going to meet another minder who lives near me tomorrow, but I think I may well go with this one. My mum and a friend have both said trust my instincts and don't worry about it. D has just fallen asleep on my lap, if and while it lasts I'm going to see if the childminders on mumsnet can answer a couple of questions I have on another thread.

Has anyone here with other kids used childcare vouchers?

CaptainDippy · 07/11/2007 15:00

My mum is one of the "big-wigs" in the Benefit Fraud Detection Service for the Dept of Work & Pensions - She's the one who busts all the naughty couples who live together and claim as single parents - tut, tut!! Among other henous crimes ......

NorthernLurker · 07/11/2007 16:07

So she is the person in the benefits office who says NO then - ok I didn't actually mention fraud but still will award myself a wispa bar on the strength of that
I bet that is a fascinating job.

Bought B the cutest green cardigan in Gap sale today - she looks good enough to eat in it!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 07/11/2007 17:35

I am finally clearing the boys room and making the most of the bigger car (yes, I still don't have my car back ) to take everything to the Nearly New Sale at the weekend or sticking it on Freecycle

I may be some time..............

CaptainDippy · 07/11/2007 18:14

No, no, NL - she gets her Minions to say NO; she wouldn't lower herself from her elevated position to actually go and speak to the "Riff-Raff" herself!! Have a Wispa anyway!!

Yey for clearing boys room, Pillock!

I am shattered - lots of children round playing today - don't think I was very good company this afternoon and feeling concerned and guilty now ........

Maveta · 07/11/2007 20:09

wow it´s quiet on here tonight, watcha all up to? I am having a night of feeling very grumpy at always being alone while dh goes to night school. I am so glad he´s doing it, I´m not annoyed at him, I am just so bored of coming home, kissing him hello/goodbye and then being alone with N from 5.30pm til 10pm. bored bored bored of it.

and

breeeeeeeeeeaathe......

CaptainDippy · 07/11/2007 20:10

Yeah - here is everyone??????

PillockOfTheCommunity · 07/11/2007 20:11

ooh, I want some chocolate

NorthernLurker · 07/11/2007 20:17

Did someone mention CHOCOLATE?

Maveta - I think that there's a thread from a journalist in the media section who is looking for mums living outside Britain, wants to talk about b/feeding etc and she mentions a fee! I thought of you
