God this weaning is blardy confusing!!!

Off to geed DD milk followed by cubes of broccoli, cauliflower and apple!

flashbangfoxy · 05/11/2007 15:07

hello Daisy, whats been keeping you busy then??

I give brown bread, but white rice and pasta, simply because I think too much fibre wouldn't be good for their digestive systems. I have been thinking about switching to brown pasta of late, but would give lo white.

at that HV!

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 05/11/2007 15:11

why-oh-why-oh-why can't my DD sleep just a little longer. She napped long enough for me to fold up dry laundry, ready to put away, hang up wet nappies, reload washing machine, empty and reload dishwasher. And just as my bum was hovvering above the sofa "waaahhhh!!!" she wakes up. Another 15 minutes is all I ask. Now I know I should be glad I managed to get those jobs done, but really, has she got a built in "mummy's having a skive" detector?

Grabbed some socks at random earlier out of the box of socks we were given, only to find they were labelled Ralph Lauren . Didn't know my friend had such expensive tastes. As long as DD doesn't get used to designer labels. Mind, I must sat they are a lovely fit and so far have stayed on

She's doing OK with her food thanks. Was really funny with the mash though, kept opening mouth wide for the spoon, then pulling a face when she got it in her mouth, then when she'd swallowed it opening wide again ready more more.

flashbangfoxy · 05/11/2007 15:15

why don't children come with a DADDY's having a skive detector??

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 05/11/2007 15:17

LOL!

OP posts:
HaveYourselfaNortyLittleXmas · 05/11/2007 15:25

LOL Foxy

MJ - my DD hated mash the first couple of times I done it for her, think it was the texture. I now make it up quite runny with milk (formula) now (and freeze in cubes) and mix it with other things, and she eats it fine.

atm she has 3 cubes twice a day, two veg and one fruit. Think the fruit sweetens it up and it all goes then

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 05/11/2007 15:36

I was wondering about freezing mash. I don't normally worry about freezing, but somehow was bothered that mash would come out all disgusting. But maybe I'll make a bigger loads next time and freeze.

She's still on about one cube's worth once a day at the moment, but it is only day 3. Will build it up slowly, letting her get used to new tastes and flavours. I'm sure she'll be eating us out of house and home soon enough

flashbangfoxy · 05/11/2007 16:07

Mash freezes fine if you do small quantities and heat it up really well (otherwise its watery) then let it cool. Sweet potato mash is another winner and its less starchy.

I always have mash and cheese sauce in the freezer so I can cook some fish and brocolli and its quicker than a ready meal and more nutricious for the children.

Isawbumperkissingsantaclaus · 05/11/2007 16:22

Hello!

Not sure how long I'll get to chat for. DD napping but keeps waking up crying. Think she is teething. Hasn't been feeding properly last 2 days and keeps chewing on her gums. Not sure how to deal with the not feeding because of teething thing?

JBM hope LO is feeding better.

Foxy how is LO's weight doing?

Fury were you poorly? just caught the beginning of this thread.

Been off for a bit as had my dad down tues to thurs. Computer broke friday and had bf from uni up till today. Has been great just having an extra person round the house.

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 05/11/2007 16:25

We get veg box from local farm, with whatever they give us (though guaranteed to always get some spuds, carrots and onions). Unfortunately no parsnip, or sweet potato, or squash this week, and think that cabbage and cauli might not be ideal first foods. If we get the same next week though, might go and buy some sweet potato and squash for her.

good to see you bumper. Hope napping is getting better?

haven't tried them yet, but keep getting told that teething powders are good.

Isawbumperkissingsantaclaus · 05/11/2007 16:33

Hi Jammy, just got your email, can't reply at the moment as DD is definitely awake but will reply when I get a chance! I'm having similar probs with the napping but will reply properly when I get time.

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 05/11/2007 16:37

no problem, catch up when you can!

Hi everyone, DH had a skive today so we've been to bluewater for a few bits and pieces. All knackered now but managed to keep DS1&2 awake on the way home so should be in bed soon.

at hv Daisy. I give brown pasta and rice but alternate white and brown bread (I make my own and never put much sugar or salt in anyway).

Sweet potato and squash are great ones - they still love them and most of the root vegs - not many veges they don't like actually. Never tried brussel sprouts though (yuck).

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 05/11/2007 17:24

I quite like a few sprouts now and then. But do get sick of them by end of winter. We had some oven roasted with balsalmic vinegar the other night, yummy.

DD made my day this afternoon She let me tickle her and laughed and laughed Up until now she hasn't reacted at all to being tickled, and hasn't really laughed much at anything (the funniest thing so far has been watching me go to the toilet). But this afternoon she was a real giggler. I LOVE MY DAUGHTER!!

FairyOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 05/11/2007 20:28

Hi all.

Not had a chance to catch up on everything, hope everyone is ok? We've been to see great aunt tday which resulted in 2 DC's having melt-down at bedtime as they were very over-tired. So am now in need to Mahoosive glass of something

DS is already having some slightly lumpy food as well - mashed banana and potato, but they are very small lumps. He's also had baby porridge, sweet potato puree and a coiple of Hipp 4 month+ jars. He's a greedy guts and probably has 10-15 teaspoons twice a day. He;d happily have more. He still has his FF as well and doesn't seem to be getting any chubbier but I am going to get him weighed and speak to Hv on thursday just to check.

When I had DD I was told not to give her wholemeal bread, pasta, rice, etc as their tummys can't cope with the fibre. I think there was also something to do with the fibre stOopping them absorbing other nutrients but that's one for the medics...

annobalthebignosereindeer · 05/11/2007 20:29

I love greek yoghurt, especially with some honey. I had icecream at carluccio's today.

Jammy there is nothing quite like a baby laugh. DS was doing that today too when i was playing peepo with him.

FairyOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 05/11/2007 20:34

Andiem, I could do next weds or friday in kingston. Annobal do those work for you?

FairyOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 05/11/2007 20:34

and of course anyone else who could come....

Sputnik · 05/11/2007 20:37

Annobal, I did in fact have them with honey, our own [smug lentil weaver emoticon]

FF I read that somewwhere about brown rice (blocking other nutrients)
