Surely no more sickness to be had?! (Or eah'll start spraying the thread with disinfectant!)

I haven't given blood for ages but used to do it as often as I could. Had to stop for a while cos I kept fainting once I'd given blood though - the biscuits afterwards just weren't enough! I had some idea it was a year after giving b irth you could give again but I must be wrong if Wilkie has done the deed.

2happy - what were you making with breadcrumbs that you used cous cous for?

UD - hope zac's cold is ok

I'm still confused re slapped cheek - does it involve being slapped at all?

We have asked for outdoor type toys for Ellen for xmas and b'day cos we'll need them once weather is ok enough to be in the garden and its what we would have used money for if they gave us money. If anyone gives us other stuff its a bonus and any money will go into her bank account. I put all the money from her birth into trust fund and put a small amount in it each month but am wary of her having control of it when she is 18 so save more for her in a bank account that I have control of. I was left money that I could touch when I was 18 and wasted it. I so wish I had saved it and used it towards a deposit for a house.

E&H you're always selling stuff? Are you always buying too?

Any sign of your present yet vinorouge love santa xx

RGee · 21/11/2007 18:25

My God. Loads of chat since the slapped cheek phone call.
Thanks for all your good wishes - it cheered me up. LO is fine, except rosy cheeks (from all that slapping ), a cough, and more tired than normal (hurrah!! She was in bed at 5.15pm today!)

2H - hope you got a nap; definitely sounds like one is well overdue!
You know, I don't think I knew the name of your ds2.
What were you cooking in breadcrumbs?

Wilkie - I donate blood but not since having P. Although the last time I was a reet wuss and nearly fainted . The nurse yet again failed to find my vein, and instead of removing the needle and starting again, decided to wiggle the needle in my arm for a while. Urghh! Pretty sure DH is on the bone marrow list. Ahh, just asked him and he is - they just took an extra blood sample and he's now on the register.

Eah - I'm a bit similar to UD for birthday. I've asked family to give money for trust fund / premium bonds, or buy something practical like clothes. They have all gone mad with toys for Xmas! My dsis told me yesterday she has bought the Mr Men box set for lo's birthday - (practical )- but I'm really excited about that cos I luuuurve them! I've picked up bits and pieces for Pip over the past few months so she'll get most of those at Xmas and a few bits for bday. Being New Year's Eve, we're away with friends in a cottage by the seaside (3 couples, one single, 1 baby, 1 toddler, 1 pregnant, 1 mad dog). No special party planned for her but she'll just be carried away with general NYE festivities. Not really one for small people's birthday parties (I guess I'll learn in time) but I'll get a cake and a party hat at the very least. Anyway, something for H to keep is a really nice idea.

Bunny - hope S gets better soon. When is all this illness going to end (err... when they're about 12??)

Lal - how's the shingles?

Shimmer is work a nightmare approaching Xmas? Do you have to work silly hours?

Dragon - pmsl when I read that Ruth got a house for Xmas. Then I looked at the link!!
Love seeing that list again. Brings back so many memnories [nostalgic emoticon]. Pip was due on the 5th Jan - v popular date! My eyes are watering at the weight of Hattie2's lo (she name changed but can't remember what too - was it booze related?)

Hi canmummy . A joint party sounds good for mum (not so sure about the kids)!!

Becks - have a lovely time in SA

Hiya Vino - slapped cheek is a v common virus. Generally quite mild symtoms and come out with a rash on the cheeks (like you've been slapped).
How's the house moving progressing? Do you fancy a night out before Xmas?

Hi PCF - long time no hear. Hope all is well with you.

RGee · 21/11/2007 18:30

DH gone out to watch footie.
What shall I have for tea? Pizza is tempting me....

RGee · 21/11/2007 19:31

Is nobody playing tonight?? Sob....

2Happy · 21/11/2007 19:46

Hey Becks, good to hear from you, have fun in SA! IKWYM about there always being one ill, it's just constant ATM.
Our car park is the biggest in the town so the mobile blood van parks there once a year, so normally I give blood every year. Last time I tried though I was about 91/2 months post-natal and the nurses couldn't agree whether you should be 9 months or a year after a baby. Ended up not giving, and then of course this time they came and I was only about 5 months. Maybe next years!
How'd the doctor's appointment go, UD?
RGee - pizza, definitely! Yum.
Now ds2 is refusing to sleep tonight, I hope he isn't going to turn into such a crap sleeper as ds1 (at least he's fallen asleep no trouble tonight, poor kid's knackered from the diarrhoea, and his bum is red raw ).
I was making home-made fish fingers, by the way. CM said ds2 chomped them very happily at lunchtime.

Lizzzombie · 21/11/2007 19:52

bbbbbiooooooooooorrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeedddddddddd.....

Washing up
Ironing
Bathroom cleaning

shall I bother, or leave it for when DP gets home from watching footie at his mates house?

I am about to start talking to the wall, I neeeed some adult stimulation!

DJ didnt enjoy nursery today, I think he has twigged that when I go, I'm gone for a while. He was screaming for ages so the nursery rang to ask me to collect him. Bit concerned, as I don't want that to happen when I am at work.

RGee · 21/11/2007 19:53

Home made fish fingers eh? Nom nom!! Are they easy to make?

2Happy · 21/11/2007 19:56

No, Lizz, sit here and MN
Yes, RGee - slice fish (it's even easier if it's chilled), dunk in flour, egg and breadcrumbs (or indeed cous cous, which I put some lemon juice, parsley and thyme into) and fry/grill. I did a mixture of white fish and salmon. I'm just keeping trying ways of getting ds1 to eat fish; he's not wildly keen, but nor am I mostly.

RGee · 21/11/2007 19:57

I'm bored too Lizz but am surfing for Xmas presents.
DJ's not coming down with an illness is he?

walkinginaWILKIEwonderland · 21/11/2007 20:02

OMG!!! How much can you lot chat. I am a footie widow tonight too - am off to play Scrabulous (for a change) if anyone wants to challenge me

Click on this if you want a laugh with your sound turned up!!

Lizz & Hunny - I think our boys should get together. J LOVES dancing (big fish little fish cardboard box and the like...) and bounces up and down if I sing 'Ugly Bug Ball'. My mum has suggested the ELC trampoline too - does it collapse down cos I don't want it permanently up???

I also think we are going to ask for a combined present of some kind of playhouse for the garden. I don't want swing or slide cos I think it will take away the excitement of going to the parks to the swings.

DH has just farted and it REALLY stinks.

RGee - glad Pippa is OK. Vino LOL at 'Has she been slapped?'

I am going to grimbo tomorrow for 2 days to mum and dad's so will be off here for a couple of days.

UD - how did you get on at GP?

RGee · 21/11/2007 20:03

Had a pizza by the way. Now fancy some chocolate but none in the house

RGee · 21/11/2007 20:06

Wilkie - was trying to work out what 'Grimbo' was - thought it was some sort of Christmas thing. Durrrrr!!!

Lizzzombie · 21/11/2007 20:06

I want a wispa sooooo badly!

anyone want to play scrabble?

Dragonhart · 21/11/2007 21:11

Can I ask what everyone puts their lo down in? Ruth has gone to bed wearing a long sleeved vest, long sleeved tshirt, fleece sleepsuit, sleeping bag with a doubled over fleece blanket and doubled over celluler blanket. Then before I go to bed, when the heating has gone off, I will put another fleece blanket on and a cot duvet (otherwise she wakes up at 1 freezing). Does this seem crazy?! The room is not that cold (19 atm then goes down to about 17 in the night). Do I have a little ice pop or are other los the same?

Went to my nan's today and she made me meat and potato pie for Lunch. Mmmmmmmmm! Luke andd Ruth had a great time too, she really spoils them and they love it!

I gave blood before Luke but since I have had him, I have not gone. I am not o the donor list as I have told all my family that I would want to donate, and that seems enough. Did you know that even if you are on the list your family can veto it? If you are a bone marrow donor, what do they do to get it if you are a match with someone?

bunnyhunny · 21/11/2007 21:15

wow. I go away for a couple of days (work) and look how many posts appear! Got work again tomorrow, and dh is looking after S all day. I am trying to convince him to take S to the toddler group I help run, but not sure if he will go

Vino - dunno if anyone answered, but slapped-cheek syndrome is a virus that makes your lo look as if their cheeks were slapped. Not sure what other symptoms there are..
We also put S's money in a different account to the trust fund. Can you really imagine being given thousands on your 18th birthday? I would have smoked, snorted or drunk it all.

2happy - gonna make the fish fingers on Friday. S appears to love fish, but I can't usually be bothered. I am finding that feeding him is definitely improving my diet!

Wilkie - I would LOVE to meet up with you both - we could have a baby rave . But I think I'm the most remote person in this thread, living in deepest darkest Suffolk. UD - you still in Northampton, or did you move to London?

Too many personals to do, so sorry if I missed you out
Lizz - I get the opposite at S's nannies - he just buggers off and leaves me. When I go to collect him, he is unfazed at my appearance. Not sure which is worse

Dragon - lo goes down in a (short sleeved)vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. The room is about 17 - 20 degrees throughout the night.

Off to bed now folks. Looks like England are doing rubbish in the footie, so beware all those DH/P's who are out watching it!!

bunnyhunny · 21/11/2007 21:31

Dragon - S wears a long-sleeve vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog grobag for nighttime. His room starts off at 20 degrees, but often dips to 15 / 16 during the night.. We struggled with blankets for ages, but grobags are ace!

Also, anyone got the next car seat up yet? What do you recommend?

JodieG1 · 21/11/2007 21:39

Sorry for not being about much again, I seem to always start posts that way lately. We've all had the most awful flu ever for over a week now. Dh has been off work, kids off school and we've all been so, so ill. Poor ds1 now also has tonsillitis and has lost so much weight, both him and Ethan are on anti-biotics, dd just went back to school today.

It was really bad at first with shivers, fever (I had 105 at one point), aches and pains (I couldn't sleep for 3 days properly as I was in so much pain), felt sick, dizzy and just rough. Also a bad cough which is still lingering. I can't believe how ill we've all been. Touch wood this is our lot for the year!

I passed my mother's support module Found out a few days ago so I can now go on to train as a full breastfeeding counsellor Anyway, I'm off to make a cup of tea and enjoy the peace as Ethan is up loads at night since being ill. I'm so exhuausted feeding him most of the night for a week but it's helped him as he wasn't as badly hit as the other two were. I'm looking forward to a good nights sleep in the (hopefully) near future.

Lizzzombie · 21/11/2007 22:06

Hi Jodie - Glad you are on the mend. Sounds nasty. Big congratulations on the Breast Feeding Councillor Qualification. Mine was really great and I am not sure that I would have been as confident if it hadn't been for her.

Dragon - DJ sleeps in a short sleeved vest and a long sleeved baby grow. And then I pop him into a winter grow bag.
I read somewhere that babies always feel much much colder than they actually are as their extremeties are cold because the heat goes to their internal organs. Apparently the best way to see if they actually are cold is to feel at the top of their back/bottom of their neck. If thats warm then they are fine.

The guide which came with our growbag room temperature egg thingy was quite useful. What we think is cold is actually fine for babies.

eandh · 22/11/2007 08:14

Morning

2happy have the buggy board and buggy indoors but for the life of me cannot work out how to get the connectors off the pushchair frame (I remember screwing a bit on but think we clipped the other bits over the top and cannot work out how they unclip so I can uncsrew iykwim), I know my Dad will know how to do it but he ist hone from holiday till monday so is it okay if i send it next week (no point asking dh he wont have a clue and I am not speaking to him at the mo as he is increasingly annoying me)

I have been up since 4.30 as dh let his alarm go off 7 times and woke hattie then got her back to sleep at 6.30 and guess who woke up at 6.35 grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, sent dh a very grumpy text (didnt help that I had a late night as went out for eddas birthday)

Oh well ellie at preschool this morning and hattie and I need to go into town so she should hopefully nod off in buggy.

Vin - I do sell alot don't I went very ott when we were execting/had ellie so have so much stuff and just selling stuff as we finish with it, have sorted all the baby toys out (soft toys etc) and going to sell them to lady over the road whose daughter had a little boy (shes going to keep them for her house) and go in the loft and get some of the more exciting toys out (vtech discovery tree, ball, stand up shape sorter, the musical instruments and whatever else is in the black bags!)

Oooooooooo postman just knocked to get me to sign for recorded letter and my lovely auntie (the one who is mine and ellies godmother) has sent me £25 next voucher to get myself something new for my work xmas do next week, awwww bless her am very now

theUrbanDryad · 22/11/2007 08:51

morning all

well the nuse at the surgery was a it rubbish yesterday - Z doesn't have a temp and she said his chest sounded clear, but i can hear him wheezing his cough sound slike he's smoking 20 a day and he's coughing so much he's being sick not sure what to do, i started a thread in health and the consensus seems to be that i should get him seen again, but i don't know who by! the trouble is, he's quite cheerful and smiley, and no temperature, so it's difficult to get the dr to take me seriously when he's there grinning from ear to ear at her....

MrsCarrot · 22/11/2007 09:25

Snap - exactly the same here, UD, sick this morning but all phlem, coughing all night, bit of a temperature. His chest was clear on tuesday and he still seems cheerful and is eating so I'm not too worried today.

I think his chest sounds like a kazoo, really horrible. GP gave him an inhalor and said it would help whether it was asthma, viral wheeze, bronchiolitis or croup. I haven't given it yet but I might go back to the dcs tomorrow if he's not any better.

I think it's the being well in themselves and eating thing that is significant. Any change there and I would go straight back. When my friends baby developed a chest infection she was obviously iller and not eating anythiing. There are some nasty viruses around at the moment. Hope he improves soon.
